WIFI Analyzer and non-sense roms - myTouch 3G Slide Themes and Apps

First I want to thank the devs for their work. Without you guys we would not get to enjoy the many flavors of "Frozen Yogurt" on the Slide.
I have used CR_Mod and 3rd Sense longer than any other roms. The reason? Because WIFI Analyzer works on those two roms. The app has been useful when performing quick and dirty wireless network tweaks on the job. The issue I run into with all of the other roms on the Slide is that the device cannot detect what channel the network is broadcasting on.
Again, this only happens on non-sense froyo roms (as far as I can tell... have not used non-sense 2.1). Does anyone else use this app? If so, have you run into this issue? My fear is that it is driver related, and official source froyo for the Slide will be necessary to fix it.
Anaway, please chime in... even if it is to tell me I'm th only nerd that uses this app.

I have not tried using it yet, but I am running the latest CM nightly (212). I could test this out tonight when I get back from the office. Have you already applied the CM Wifi Fix?

Thanks for checking it out, fermunky. I actually did try the wifi fix. My wifi worked fine before (with this small exception). Same thing after the fix. It's not that big of a deal. More of a convenince than a necessity, as my wifi works fine otherwise. It is a sad indicator of the slow htc espresso development, however.

Well, as mentioned I can try it when I return home. My company heavily enforces the rule of using absolutely no wifi in our building, and I like my job Is the app just Wifi Analyzer in the market for free?

Of course! I refrain from wifi at work also. It is in fact "Wifi Analyzer" and it is free in the market.

Well, not sure exactly what you're looking for, I chose to view the Channel Rating, and selected my AP. Strangely, it says Current Channel: 0 and of course no rating, but it does list all 14 channels and their respective ratings. Anything specific you want me to try?

That's the problem I was pointing out... "Current Channel: 0". The reason it stood out to me was because when I go to an office and want to quickly check the network I have no idea what channel its broadcasting on. Of course its not that big of a hassle to open my laptop, but when I switched to non-sense roms it was annoying. Glad to know its not just my device. I just flashed the the 3rdSense update and now it works perfectly (shrugs shoulders).

Glad I could help. I am running CM6 nightly 212 with the Wifi fix mentioned earlier, just for reference.
I should also mention though that the wifi fix doesn't appear to have helped any. But at the same time, I am using the standard Linksys wrt54g, thats about 4 years old now, so probably time for an update/upgrade.

I ran into this problem yesterday. All features of wifi analyzer work except channel listing!
It's aggrevating to say the least.
Sent from my Rooted T-Mobile Mytouch 3G Slide using the XDA Developers App!

I can confirm this problem exists on CM7 build 8. I also miss Wifi Analyzer, but I haven't really needed it for months, I almost forgot about this problem.

Finally, found a thread with the problem I'm facing! Good lord, I've spent days trying combinations of search terms that would net something other than endless pages of how to change the channel of an AP.
Anyway, any update on this issue? I'd really like to optimize a couple networks and Wifi Analyzer would be really helpful if only it could tell me what channels all these networks are on!
I've tried cmod 7.1 RC1 as well as 7.0.3, and have updated the radio to the latest 7.15 (if that's even still the latest), but still no channels being read.

Q: system diagnostic tools?

Hi,
I just dropped my phone. So far all still working nicely but I'm quite paranoid
Is there any apps or tool to diagnose our nexus one. Just checking if all system devices working properly (GPS, wifi, radio, touch screen, etc)
Cheers,

Old thread, but it came up in a Google search and it doesn't look like anyone's covered this elsewhere in this group.
Dropped my N1 over the weekend, and this morning noticed it's losing network & data regularly, and only connecting 2G, not 3G or 4G. Ugh. Hoping it's just sunspots, but it would be nice to be able to run diagnostics that test the various systems for any failures or out of spec values.
I've unlocked my N1 and am running cyanogenmod 7.2 if that helps.
Check out this link, it might have some useful apps:
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/hardware+test
thanks!
Thanks for the link, I'll take a closer look at those.
The good news (?) is that it turns out T-Mobile had a data network outage for most of the day today. They buried it on their support website behind an east coast outage report for last weekend's heavy weather, so I didn't see it. Big thank you to All Things D for clueing me in, and I'm reinstalling my apps now.

[Q] Suggestions on a new phone for tethering the NC?

Been on Verizon for several years without problems. Have used several types of phones up to now (Motorola Krave ZN4). As the NC most likely will not enjoy the benefits of 3G (or 4G) the logical solution is phone upgrade to allow a good consistent tether when WiFi is unavailable.
So, any suggestions based on experience on type/brand/model phone compatible with Verizon service? What to look for? Tethering protocols?
thanks
Any phone with Android+root+Wifi+adhoc support should work. just choose if u need 3g or 4g.
basically what he just said. I have a Droid 1 and (with a "fix") am able to tether no problem with it, and that's the first android 2.0 device. I know Droid X works fine, and any other android really should work fine as long as its, as he said, rootable (basically) 4G will cost you more monthly (I think 10 more) but is faster, 3g is good enough IMO.
Any will do, I use an evo but they all get the job done
how about iphone4?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
iphone4 would work, but it would also need to be rooted/jailbroken, and the iphone community is different from android, everything costs money (including tethering apps) and it's not as free for all happy sharing open...
Tethering from the iPhone4 can be done without needing to pay anything, and that is through bluetooth. But..:
Iphone may already work through PAN/Bluetooth, with a few commands (automated through gscript?). But current kernels do not allow DUN connections.
Thus, tethering from an iphone4 using bluetooth/PAN only allows browser app and a few other apps (gmail?) to connect to the internet.. For a complete connection, you would need DUN. I think it has already been requested. But of course, this isn't a priority for kernel devs at the moment.
Of course, as it's been said, you can always choose to jailbreak and pay for a wifi/hotspot app. That would work.
Sam
I ordered my NC today! I'm waiting for it... what I need to tether my nexus one to NC? N1 is rooted as well... is it necessary to get adhoc fix on NC? I heard some user here saying it is not necessary but I found a thread related to adhoc fix...
Thanks!

Latest Adobe Flash Player for Motorola XOOM tablet hacked to work with hulu.com

The following is a hack to get hulu.com working with the latest Adobe Flash Player 10.3.185.23 for the Motorola XOOM Tablet which consists of a hack of
/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libflashplayer.so by hex editing AND 10,3,185,23 to WIN 99,9,999,99 so it will work with HULU.
Using the apk - uninstall any existing Adobe Flash Player from your device before installing the new apk.
After you apply the above, to get this working, make sure to set your browser User Agent string to Desktop. With the stock Android browser and probably other browsers excluding the Dolphin browser, you might have to do this each time you run any flash based site including hulu.com or start the browser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686765
Newer versions will be posted towards the end of the thread.

Even though I am the author of this hack, I know what you're referring to since this hack originally was done for phone devices and while it works for everyone else and even others with the Motorola Droid 1, when I use it on the Droid 1, I have the same problem as you and not only that, the flash process will get killed with the browser after a minute or two. No problem BRD, I used to do only the libflashplayer.so hack for the past 6+ months and didn't know how to replace files in a apk and I didn't have a Xoom until the end of May so all modified apk's I have tested on my p3droid rooted stock ROM for the Motorola Droid 1 have always resulted in youtube and hulu acting as if flash was not installed, so for that, only replacing libflashplayer.so manually works. What's more funny is that even though I posted my libflashplayer.so on droid-life.com whenever there is a new version of flash, no one seems to recognize it until you made it available on the Xoom when it was mentioned on both droid-life.com and PCWorld. I usually will post the update within minutes to hours after I am aware of it which is usually within the same day except it's time consuming to be updating 1/2 a dozen threads on xda about the new flash with the hack after I test it on 3 different devices (Motorola Droid 1 using the libflashplayer.so, Motorola XOOM after patching and signing the apk with the libflashplayer.so after it works on the Droid 1, and then the HP eStation Zeen Tablet with both the market apk as it doesn't have market access and the libflashplayer.so) to make sure it works before releasing it to the world.

I only ever use wifi (I own a 3g model but do not have 3g activated). And my desktop imac uses the same wireless internet connection and the same hulu video is smooth and flawless, so my internet connection isn't the issue.
What is bugging me the most is that I've repeatedly made comments about the crappiness of the playback and yet virtually no one so much has acknowledged me. Making me feel as though I'm the one and only person having these problems...or that no one else is being even remotely critical of the video quality. To me, "just works" does not necessarily mean its worth using.
I don't have a Xoom, but a Nexus One. Performance has always been crappy on my device. Flash says the video has not been optimized for mobile. I tend to believe them. Looks like the video is not being hardware decoded for some reason or another.
any ideas why opera mobile might fail to recognize this? getting no flash at all, but it works fine with flash from market...

While a Desktop imac uses the same wireless connection, remember the processing power of a mobile device will still be lacking compared to a actual computer. Even though they might both be wireless, the wireless chipset makes a difference too when it comes to latency, etc since Broadcom used in the Xoom isn't exactly a good chipset when you compare it to things like Atheros, Lucent/Agere. My desktop being a Pentium 4-3.2Ghz is actually slower than my Xoom and even my Droid 1 because for whatever reason, in 2009, the hardware just started getting really sluggish so the only way to even play flash is to pause it until the entire video is in the buffer, this is on a 6Mbps ADSL connection which works without issues with even my friends Netbooks when playing flash. Do you have the same problem with the market version without applying the hack since I don't know what BRD modified in his hack but in mines, it's just the version string so everything else is untouched and it should work exactly the same since there is no reverse engineering of the code or decompiling involved. The Xoom atleast works in my case unlike my Droid 1 which is basically suffering from the same thing you claim except on the Droid 1, all of a sudden, it will just exit back to the home screen all of a sudden, no one else seems to have that problem either. Adobe Flash itself is a CPU resource hog and it seemed to be better when it was Macromedia Flash. Lots of people or the general public out there doesn't really know what quality is or they just don't have something of reference quality to compare it to. Same thing when people buy audio/video equipment, audiophiles/videophiles like myself are picky while some people out there will just think anything is good based on the pricing or how expensive something is.

[Q] tab wont pair with wiimote or sixaxis

Has anybody out there successfully paired a bluetooth controller (either sixaxis ps3 or wiimote) with sprint galaxy tab? No problem pairing with my droid x, so I know how to pair, why is galaxy tab bluetooth so different?
As I understand it, Samsung created a half-baked Bluetooth stack for the Galaxy Tab, which doesn't support a lot of profiles.
I think the only way to get this working on the Tab would be to run a build with better Bluetooth support. I seem to recall someone saying in the CM7 thread that Wiimote works if you flash CM7. Now that we also have MIUI, I wonder if it might work there.

As of now i dont want a paperweight, as i am new to rooting/flashing and am not schooled in android programming. Again thank you so much at least now i know there is a way to fix this bluetooth issue. (i guess now i know why my bt headphones wouldnt pair either, thought they were just cheap)

No, market app for now works fine the only downside is the batterie drain, but for me that is not really a issue. If you have a good voltage control app you can undeclock to portability and when you want to play you can overclock.

Check out this app that's available only on JellyBean, specifically for N7

I was just watching the Google IO Keynote live stream (I know, everyone's ideal way to spend a nice afternoon), and I saw this company that was getting featured by Android called Ekata Systems who launched their app Tapestry at the show. It seems to be a synchronized slideshow between JB devices with some snazzy twists that I've never seen any app do. It works best when you're trying it with a friend/family member so there are at least two devices (phone and/or tablet) to highlight the features though. You can check out the interview here, and the app here.
Talk about bleeding edge...only available on Jelly Bean. It uses this new feature called WiFi Direct that creates a local P2P network between 1:N clients. I'm playing with it with my co-workers and it is pretty sweet.
Interesting! I can see how it would be good for other things, like presentations for businesses and in learning environments.
Funny you mention that because that was exactly the first thing I thought about, which is showing a corporate presentation, or teachers using it to share learning material with students. I'm sure with some tweaks it can easily be made to address those use cases.
Couldn't wait to try this out, seems like an excellent idea for showing photos on my phone without transferring (I have been experimenting with file explorers and ftp/smb serviers)
Ideal opportunity came this evening when my (stock) Nexus S received an OTA update to JB.
Unfortunately, although Tapestry installed, I couldn't get past the white screen with logo on. hmrph.
Side note: Nexus S upgraded to JB but existing ICS flash/bbc iplayer etc still works.

Does Nexus S w/ JB support WiFi Direct?
After investigation, no
I hadn't realised Wi-Fi direct was a hardware requirement, as opposed to a software thingy. The app page is not clear on that, and dev's website is non-existent as far as I can see.

I dug around a little bit, and I think the WiFi chip in Nexus S *can* support WiFi Direct, but the firmware/drivers have not yet included support for it. AFAIK WiFi Direct support is mostly a driver/firmware update. Sorry buddy. Another hook for the man to extract more $$$ from us to upgrade to new devices.
Yeah it seems that way. I've been checking out the xda Nexus S forums too.
Can't really afford to upgrade phone after forking out for N7. I was hoping they would complement each other very well, which is why I didn't buy galaxy nexus. They do work very well together as nifty phone and muscly tablet, both with JB.
It does. I have one. Root and ROM it. I will try this right now. I'll report back. I'll try with my SGSII as well as it does have it.

So I was watching All About Android podcast on TWiT.tv, and guess who they were featuring on this week's episode?!
to ba fair WiFi Direct was already available since ICS but not used it.... until now:
if you want to connect from android device to android device for transmitting media, check this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot
different from tapstry (that is a presentation app) WiFi Shoot is a direct share app, and works with ICS.
this was developed by yours truly, and I developed it exactly because I noticed there was nothing out there for WiFi Direct
I tested it between Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Asus TF300 and Galaxy SII (stock ICS) and all worked fine.
The most problematic of those were the Galaxy Nexus that not always want to connect, but between N7-GalaxySII was flawless.
At the moment the app just works for photo and video but I'll be expanding more, if you guys fancy helping spreading the word about it, I'm really looking forward to see the downloads explode on it.

From network drive (samba) to Galaxy Nexus via AntTek Explorer: 3m:17s (slow, uh?)
From netword drive to my Winwdos PC: 45seconds (better)
From the Galaxy Nexus to a Galaxy SII: 16 seconds (WOW... FAST)
if anyone fancy doing the same kind of test and sharing the result, just to compare and say that I'm not lying because I'm the developer, it would be pretty cool.
WiFi Shoot not working between 2 N7 devices
I will be writing a WiFi Direct app in the near future so I am trying to understand the technologyby using the WiFi Shoot and the WiFi Direct Demo applications but I'm seeing the following behavior.
If I have no WiFi connections to an WiFi Access Point both applications will perform as expected.
If I have an active connection to a WiFi Access Point both applications will bet to the point where an "Invitation to connect" is issued from one device to the other but once "Accept" is selected the status on both devices stays "Available" and no connection is ever made.
I thought WiFi Direct on the Nexus 7 was supposed to work when connected via an Access Point to the outside world...

I'm trying to use WiFi Shoot between 2 Nexus 7 devices while connection to the internet via an Access point but it does work. I get the application started on both devices an I see the devices listed on the connect screen. I select a device on one screen and I see the "Invitation to connect" on the other screen but after I select "Accept" nothing happens. Both devices status stays available and no connection is formed. If I turn the connection off to the access point the application works.
Any ideas?
Hi guys,
is anyone with interested in beta test the app?
I started a new thread in the development section asking for Logcats if you're experiencing force close.
Also it's a cut down version of the .apk there to test part of the system.

any help will be great appreciated.
thanks.
i just got an auto-update request a few days ago for Tapestry, and apparently the app now claims support back to Gingerbread (I doubt using WiFi Direct). Now people who are not as fortunate as us to have Jelly Bean devices, ie the rest of my entire family, they are in luck. This app will come in handy for the upcoming holiday season. Not looking forward to seeing the in-laws though (don't worry my wife doesn't read the boards =)
