hey all I have a question is there a rom for the G1 that has the interface and features of
MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.6_MDJ_S78.0
thanks,
Reg
Way to make your question as awkward to answer as possible...
The ROM you're referring to features the 'new' HTC Sense, built on Froyo. There are Sense ROMs for Dream, but only based on Eclair (AFAIK, there are HVGA froyo sense builds but no one has ported them to Dream yet).
So you can get something similar, just based on Eclair, without the new Sense features... oh, and it will run like molasses.
sorry wasn't really sure how to put the question and that is the same rom I jun on my HD2 so i figured it would be easiest just to include the rom name.
Are there any downsides to going back to Eclair?
No native Apps2SD, things don't seem to run quite as fast. Nothing major, it's just outdated.
thanks that is what i needed to know
I have a quick question about G1 rom(s) as well, and don't think a new thread is necessary- I hope yonu won't mind if i use his thread..
I bought a G1 for my sister- she needs only facebook, youtube, some internet, texting, calling. The G1 is from rogers and it came with android 1.5- I immediately installed the newest cyanogen (6.x) on it by following the official cyanogen wiki. Now, however, the G1 is sometimes slower than my X1 running android. That doesn't seem right. Is this a normal cyanogen behavior? If yes, is there some light rom that is fast and stable? (it has to be froyo, as she needs facebook notifications.)
Thanks!

Pretty much, it's an old device. Your X1 has the same CPU as the G1, but has 64mb of RAM more than the G1.
Try the ezterry's Froyo MyTouch port, it's a port of the froyo build that was released for the mytouch3g (same hardware as G1). If that doesn't satisfy you, you'll be looking at going back to donut (1.6).
Thnx for replies.
to AdrianK: Is donut faster on G1? I always though that JIT makes Froyo the fastest android.. but I guess that works only when there is enough RAM..
to traumatism: Not sure here, but didn't it say in the marketplace that the notifications (by that I mean info in status bar about new message, comment etc showing up even when the fb app is not running) are available only for android 2.2 and up?

So im currently running JACHero 2.7.3 and its amazing! I love all the widgets, but i really cant afford for my phone to be locking up on calls and still having some Force close issues. ive tried reinstalling it near 4 times already. I have a class 6 card, tried 32 mb swap and 64 mb swap, and have an 8 gig card. If it just hung going from email or text id be ok but i cant really be missing calls.
so my question is, whats the difference between JACHero and Cyanogen. From what i understand Cyan doesnt run rosie (which i dont really have a clear understand what that is). But i was looking in the homescreen page and it looks like Cyans' rom can still use the widgets and most people say it runs much faster.
Can anyone confirm, and update me on the situation. thanks in advance!
Um you have a lot of reading to do my friend. JACHero ROM is based on the Hero phone made by HTC. It has nearly 100mb more RAM (memory) than the g1 so of course it will run slower. Hero ROMS are almost 20mb more in size than cupcake ROMS. Cyanogen's ROMS are heavily optimized cupcake ROMS that are built for speed. It's not possible to port over the widgets without porting over Rosie/Sense UI. Sense/Rosie requires alot of the HTC frameworks and unless someone can recode them and use Google's frameworks porting them is impossible. If you want a quick speedy ROM with lots of cool features go with Cyanogen. He includes the HTC Camera, exchange mail, and I *think* HTC Music. You can also flash lots of cool themes like Kspec Customs by brandenk and some other goodies too. Most theme devs are making cyanogen-compatible themes because most of the community has flocked to cyanogen's speedy speedy ROMS. If you want a rather bloated but "prettier" ROM go with Hero. The lag you are seeing is probably from having too many widgets running on the home screen. Hope that long description helped I suggest reading the OP of both JACHero and Cyanogen's ROMS. You'll learn alot more there.
Cyanogen is probably the fastest rom to date. Rosie is basically the user interface that you see. The menu tab at the bottom, all the widgets, basically the architecture of the system. Meh I won't go into details since i'm not a person who makes ROMs. But after using JACHero and Cyanogen, I'd stick with cyanogen based on speed, reliability, battery life, and being able to use different themes other than hero.
If I were you, make a nandroid back-up of your current stable ROM and just flash to a cyanogen rom and see how it works for you. Try it out for a day or 2. If you're like me, you really don't need to charge the g1 for a couple days.
Google ION and Cyanogen are the two best ROMS out on XDA for the G1.
Ok I been reading these forums for quite some time now over and over I'm always reading that this here feature or that app can't be add to that Rom because it needs to be a Google or HTC Rom. For example the IM app can't be added to any HTC Rom do to the frame work and other stuff but can easily be installed on the Google Roms. My question is shouldn't we be able to take a lot of features/apps of these HTC Roms and and with a few libs and build on another HTC build. Example. I'm running Haykuro's 5.0.2h shouldn't I be able to take features/apps/libs from hero and port some things over or vice versa? I'm just asking cause I love 5.0.2h cause its stable and the features are one of a kind flake the zoom on the camcorder no othee Rom has it that ive seen but I love the contact sync with Facebook that hero has and some other things. Id k could just port them over to each other it would be a great Rom can it be done they both HTC roms ?
Just bout every rom now has zoom for the camcorder and camera. I haven't found a rom that doesn't.
I dont remember it on the hero rom, the cupcake adp roms ( i didnt try jf's) i just flash back from ion which didnt have it, haykuro's 5.0.2g didnt have it, i mean i can go on for days. They didnt have zoom for the camcorder i have videos i have made but back to the question please. If you not going to post an answer you can keep your 2 cent and move to the next post and waste your time there thank you.
i like your question and idea, i hope u actually get some constructive feedback now instead of hearing how this that or this..good lookin out

Thanks alot man for the support I was just reading how some people took the Exchange emailing app/libs from the Rogers Rom and put it on their phone so there's got be quite easy to take features from hero and maybe even donut (if its HTC) and put them on my 5.0.2g

I'm on hero and have zoom, been on the dudes build (cupcake) and that has zoom. I mean I can go on for days to. And to answer your question as long as its the same based rom (htc or google) you should be able to port over.
Ok well if its so easy as people say then im wondering why people are having such a hard time porting over apps widgets, programs, etc from hero (not rosie). I would like to have the text, stock, weather widget, the contacts that sync with facebook, the browser with flash, and many more "hero" features on 5.0.2h. I mean they all htc frame work and i know some programs depend on the frame work of the rom but there has to be a easy way around it for non developers like me and others. Also if someone does know of a way can you show steps in the terminal emulator I'm in the hospital and don't have my laptop with me

The stuff you want ported over can't be done yet. If you want the weather widget they have one that looks like it but not the same.
hi guys.this my first post so please dont get mad at the question.
i spent time learning how to downgrade, root, install hard spl and flash rom.problem is when i got done i really dont see any difference.the only things different i see is theres an android on a skateboard on my homescreen and a couple of new apps and console.could somebody please straighten me out why hero so much better than g1 os.i did a little searching on the forum but did dint find what i was looking for.
btw i installed cyanogens new rom thats stickied here in this forum
Try a hero rom and find out, you said you installed a regular rom. Just to name a few of the pros; HTC Music, HTC Widgets, Browser, Facebook Contacts. There are more, you just have to try it out and see if you like it.
Also remember hero rom was not made for the G1 so there might be some known issues...

I installed cyanogens 4.1.999...thats not a regular rom is it?
That's a regular donut rom yes.
When I say regular I mean something that was built for the device at hand ie. ADP/ASOP rom. Unlike the hero, blur, cliq etc roms that are not made for the G1.

flash 9 conent
multitouch
hero specific apps and widgets
htc sense ui
7 home screens
hero roms do have lag compared to cyanogens(and others) donut and cupcake roms.
and u cant open up the keyboard while at the home screen, the touchflo will crash and FC
this is for all those who are searching for the next hero rom they want to try, and also for us to be able to make some sort of judgement with relation to the popularity and usability of "a certain hero rom"...
i wanted to make a poll, but it would be too hard to include all the hero roms out there..
make it plain and simple guys...
i'll start...naturally
i'm switching between two roms(got them both nandroided
- jacxheroski 2.2r4 remix
this one's really nice and fast, works as advertised, but i would advise not to fill all the screens(7) with widget and stuff, cause it would start rebooting sometimes...i suggest 4 screens max...
- a version of jachero called superlite 2.7.3
this one comes without sense, BUT, you get to have all the htc hero applications, and its as fast as the best cupcake build i'v tried, and you can also flash the 10mb hack, and it also comes with flash for the browser... leds don't work tho
who's next
i have a bell htc touch and have been running NFSFANS ROM and a 2.2 version of android(can't remember which one i tried many) but for the last while android has become unstable, randomly locking up or resetting.
is this common? because it never happened on my warm donut build.
could it be less stable because its running from the sd and not nand?
im afraid that if i switch to android only il have a complete unstable POS just because i want android 2.2 or better
thats why ive kept WM despite hating it because if there was a problem i know it will not crash on me making a phone call or something.
im also a lazy bugger and like that WM can be controlled by my PC, i do this to type longer SMS's and such is there a way to do that on android?
anyway im indecisive what build of android should i use? and are there any downsides to going pure android that i should know about?
and what app should i use to backup my contacts, sms, call history, etc. and is there one that works on WM aswell so i can merge my WM stuff with my adroid stuff and then back it up
thanks
I am running SuperFroyo and it's super stable. Maybe once a week or so it will freeze up but that seems better than WinMo.
I have not got in to sync with a Windows machine, but it does sync just fine with Ubuntu. The Google Voice works well for dictating texts and that's what I mostly use, it's pretty accurate even with my (mild) drawl.

You can use "Funambol Sync Client" to sync with both android and windows mobile. You can also try gingerbread instead of froyo. The latest Gingerbread build is more stable to use, and also for the freezing part, you can overclock your processor to about 520Mhz (for complete stability) but I got it up to 550Mhz for more speed especially when playing games. Hope this helps.
is there a way to go nand without using windows?
if not is the stickyed guide " Easiest Step-By-Step Android Tutorial for the Vogue (NAND Method/Internal Memory)" actually the easiest way?
i ask because its older thus potentially out of date
if not i have a question
step 6 is "Download the latest NBH file that begins with "voguimg-240x320-..." (needed for all Vogue Android ROMs):"
but the latest one is voguimg-240x320-2.6.32-froyo-14-01-11_14.nbh and what if i was planning on running on trying a gingerbread? like Scoot CyanogenMod 7.0.2 RLS2 does it matter that the nbh is for froyo if not is that the best nbh to use?
thanks
I've been running Android on my device for more than a year now. I reflash every few months to one of the new releases to keep the device fresh and ensure that I have the latest bug fixes.
The device isn't SUPER stable, it crashes probably once a week but other than that, it's fine. I use it in my 2010 Kia Forte and it bluetooth syncs the address book.
I recommend it.
+1
i seem to have gotten it installed on nand
im running Scoot CyanogenMod 7.0.2 RLS2 but i noticed when i tried to download a
.zip file it mentioned that i dont have a sd card when i do
why wouldnt it show up and how can i fix it?
thanks
