Jachero vs Cyanogen - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So im currently running JACHero 2.7.3 and its amazing! I love all the widgets, but i really cant afford for my phone to be locking up on calls and still having some Force close issues. ive tried reinstalling it near 4 times already. I have a class 6 card, tried 32 mb swap and 64 mb swap, and have an 8 gig card. If it just hung going from email or text id be ok but i cant really be missing calls.
so my question is, whats the difference between JACHero and Cyanogen. From what i understand Cyan doesnt run rosie (which i dont really have a clear understand what that is). But i was looking in the homescreen page and it looks like Cyans' rom can still use the widgets and most people say it runs much faster.
Can anyone confirm, and update me on the situation. thanks in advance!

Um you have a lot of reading to do my friend. JACHero ROM is based on the Hero phone made by HTC. It has nearly 100mb more RAM (memory) than the g1 so of course it will run slower. Hero ROMS are almost 20mb more in size than cupcake ROMS. Cyanogen's ROMS are heavily optimized cupcake ROMS that are built for speed. It's not possible to port over the widgets without porting over Rosie/Sense UI. Sense/Rosie requires alot of the HTC frameworks and unless someone can recode them and use Google's frameworks porting them is impossible. If you want a quick speedy ROM with lots of cool features go with Cyanogen. He includes the HTC Camera, exchange mail, and I *think* HTC Music. You can also flash lots of cool themes like Kspec Customs by brandenk and some other goodies too. Most theme devs are making cyanogen-compatible themes because most of the community has flocked to cyanogen's speedy speedy ROMS. If you want a rather bloated but "prettier" ROM go with Hero. The lag you are seeing is probably from having too many widgets running on the home screen. Hope that long description helped I suggest reading the OP of both JACHero and Cyanogen's ROMS. You'll learn alot more there.

Cyanogen is probably the fastest rom to date. Rosie is basically the user interface that you see. The menu tab at the bottom, all the widgets, basically the architecture of the system. Meh I won't go into details since i'm not a person who makes ROMs. But after using JACHero and Cyanogen, I'd stick with cyanogen based on speed, reliability, battery life, and being able to use different themes other than hero.
If I were you, make a nandroid back-up of your current stable ROM and just flash to a cyanogen rom and see how it works for you. Try it out for a day or 2. If you're like me, you really don't need to charge the g1 for a couple days.

Google ION and Cyanogen are the two best ROMS out on XDA for the G1.

[Solved] Fastest Hero ROM?

Hey, I was wondering what the fastest Hero build is (With the least lag). The thing is, I desperately want Hero on my phone but also desperately hate the lag that it comes with. So yeah, thanks in advance.
Cyanogen + Hero theme isn't enough for me. I want the real thing!!!
JACHero =) The latest version with Optimized Rosie. Make sure you have a class 6 sdcard for best results!
I've tried JACHero. D: I may be asking for too much, but is there a way to make it even faster? Because it was still up to a 20 second freeze before I could switch screens at Home. And yep, got my 8 gb class 6 sdcard rigth here .
Hm..try over clocking to 528MHZ? and use swapper too.
Use JacHero 2.3.3
Enable swapper 32/10 at /system/sd/swapper.swp
JacHero is already overclocked so dont worry bout that
Use only 3 home screens and minimize the widgets on those three. I suggest using clock twitter (if u use it) and messaging widgets.
That worked perfect for me with no lag at all. Use adb to remove any widgets that you dont use. That got me to 40mb of internal space which made it really fast soooooo ya
Good Luck!
PUSH the Rosie (optimized) by coolbho3000 to hero It's been heavily compressed and reduced in size so should run faster. You can try Drizzy's hero remix too and someone has hero with cyanogen's kernel which should IMO run veryy fast. We'll find out soon. Until then what can be done to speed things up have already been stated in this thread
Enable swapper

how do i go about this? i am setting up logcat right now... i wanna load and run hero fast as well! if you can help me out with this i'll donate a couple fresh crisp 20 dollar bills to ya ;-)

which hero rom are you using?

this is for all those who are searching for the next hero rom they want to try, and also for us to be able to make some sort of judgement with relation to the popularity and usability of "a certain hero rom"...
i wanted to make a poll, but it would be too hard to include all the hero roms out there..
make it plain and simple guys...
i'll start...naturally
i'm switching between two roms(got them both nandroided
- jacxheroski 2.2r4 remix
this one's really nice and fast, works as advertised, but i would advise not to fill all the screens(7) with widget and stuff, cause it would start rebooting sometimes...i suggest 4 screens max...
- a version of jachero called superlite 2.7.3
this one comes without sense, BUT, you get to have all the htc hero applications, and its as fast as the best cupcake build i'v tried, and you can also flash the 10mb hack, and it also comes with flash for the browser... leds don't work tho
who's next

[Theme]Senseless

I said I was working on something new. Well, here it is!
First of all, you MUST be running Ivan's 0.7 or 0.5.4. This may work on other roms, but I have NOT tested it.
In short, this removes rosie. To be safe, make a nandroid before you install it. All Widgets/Sense Homescreen/all extra sense related apps are removed. A Full list is at the link below. It returns the phone to close to stock android. I'll be updating soon with a few more features.
More info at here.
Thanks!
EDIT :
figured out what it does.
thanks!
trying it now. Can't wait for it. Thanks for all your hard work!!
noob question! r u ready? whats senseless? is sence the main os thing kinds? on my task manager htc sence is like the main os, do u replace it with like aHome ir somthing like that?
sense is the overlay that HTC made for the phone. with the nice shiny user interface. senseless removes all of that and uses the stock android look, which many people find nicer. senseless also deletes any HTC sense releated apps that wont be used so the phone runs smoother.
thanks i really appreciate that help. im new to the android scene. its a little small due to all the different phones runnind different tweaks but i love the community so far. not like the psp or iphone one but i deffenitly like it, everyones friendly
Really looking forward to trying this out when I get home. First I have to install Ivan's, but this is exactly what I have been looking for.
You said it basically removes rosie, is that all? I could do that with root explorer, couldn't I?
thank you for this. applied this to my fav ROM instead of searching through root explorer for each sense apk. this made my fav rom a lil faster. thanks again for ur hard work
Works on Ivan's 0.81T2.
Now if can hack the incoming call screen it will be perfect.....

NRG needs to be customized to work faster. I find it very fast. But I don't use all of the tabs, and I overclock my CPU to 710.
Did you install the newest version, listed in my signature?
Also if You interest on trying stock like and self customizable ROM, try kwbr ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811121
fast, stable and good battery life..

How do I customize it to make it faster? Where is this overclocking app at, and how do I remove some of the tabs?
About tabs, you can disable some, just swipe to settings tab on HTC Sense, choose "personalize" then "Home screen tabs", uncheck tabs you want to remove.

I just flashed my custom ROM to the NRG ROM of 14th October and I don't have any issues with slowness...
My phone is faster than every before.
Did you flashed the latest version of NRG rom?
I'm suprised you're having issues with NRG's ROM, I find it very fast.
If you want to try overclocking, check out the utilities in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698374
If you want a fast rom, use a valkyre or jackoss

Where to start? The following is a subset of my phone settings. I've been tweaking them for months, and I would be hard pressed to provide a full list.
The OC app is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698374
As to customizing, the setting tab will allow you to remove the tabs you don't use. I found that I actually only use 4 of them. The rest just take up memory.
I also use BsB Tweaks (in the Tools folder) to set a high glyph and IP cache.
The other thing to do is to go into the Settings and change the start menu to be the Sense version. This will give you and extra 30 Mb or so of memory, and this will make the device faster. Do this step last, because it will be difficult to get to the NRG Tools menu unless you revert back to the default WM start menus.
EDIT: But you should be aware that NRG is not customized for speed. There are faster ROMs available. But NRG has lots of nice stuff, and the latest operating systems and programs.

jackos rom without a doubt. --->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632617
Keep in mind that it usually takes some time for a newly flashed ROM to "settle in". The performance you see right away is not indicitive of how the ROM will perform long term. Maybe files are still being setup? Not really sure why this is so. But don't freak out until you've used the ROM for a couple hours. Plus the battery meter will not be accurate. It needs to be calibrated by charging the phone to 100%, then down to 30%, and repeat a couple times.
If you've been using the ROM for a while, and done a few of the tweaks to streamline performance as other have suggested, its possible it was a bad flash. Task29 and start over.
But its also possible that a more lightweight ROM is for you. Energy is a nice balance of performance, aesthetics, and features. But some like to sacrifice some eye candy for a more lightweight ROM, like Jackos that someone else suggested.
I've used the EnergyROMs on my TP2, as well as Simplicity and Jackos, all are great roms. EnergyROMs have many cooked in useful apps and awesome features, Simplicity is lighter and well.. simpler than Energy and Jackos has amazing memory management and the best ROM if you're going for WM6.5.0.
I am a sucker for speed, and the fastest you can go is stock WM6.5 with no HTC Sense. I'm currently using Jackos SleekBasic with TouchFlo3D, just flashed yesterday, IMO its faster than all ROMs I tried except stock WM, its not really pretty and not many features, but I can live with it. Good batt life too...
OndraSter's WM 6.5 TF3D ROM is the fastest ROM I have ever used. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642956&highlight=OndraSter
Jacko's is by far the cleanist Ive seen its actually functional and has 110mb free after 2nd reboot... Great rom's.. Not a nrg fan anymore either.. especially cause he doesnt bother to actually test them on the devices he makes them for.
I used a lot of ROMs from this forum, and I can confirm that the Jackos is the fastest and stablest that I tried (I'm actually using the smartmove flavour).
Ondraster's also is quite fast and stable, but I find that jackos looks better

rom question

hey all I have a question is there a rom for the G1 that has the interface and features of
MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.6_MDJ_S78.0
thanks,
Reg
Way to make your question as awkward to answer as possible...
The ROM you're referring to features the 'new' HTC Sense, built on Froyo. There are Sense ROMs for Dream, but only based on Eclair (AFAIK, there are HVGA froyo sense builds but no one has ported them to Dream yet).
So you can get something similar, just based on Eclair, without the new Sense features... oh, and it will run like molasses.
sorry wasn't really sure how to put the question and that is the same rom I jun on my HD2 so i figured it would be easiest just to include the rom name.
Are there any downsides to going back to Eclair?
No native Apps2SD, things don't seem to run quite as fast. Nothing major, it's just outdated.
thanks that is what i needed to know
I have a quick question about G1 rom(s) as well, and don't think a new thread is necessary- I hope yonu won't mind if i use his thread..
I bought a G1 for my sister- she needs only facebook, youtube, some internet, texting, calling. The G1 is from rogers and it came with android 1.5- I immediately installed the newest cyanogen (6.x) on it by following the official cyanogen wiki. Now, however, the G1 is sometimes slower than my X1 running android. That doesn't seem right. Is this a normal cyanogen behavior? If yes, is there some light rom that is fast and stable? (it has to be froyo, as she needs facebook notifications.)
Thanks!

Pretty much, it's an old device. Your X1 has the same CPU as the G1, but has 64mb of RAM more than the G1.
Try the ezterry's Froyo MyTouch port, it's a port of the froyo build that was released for the mytouch3g (same hardware as G1). If that doesn't satisfy you, you'll be looking at going back to donut (1.6).
Thnx for replies.
to AdrianK: Is donut faster on G1? I always though that JIT makes Froyo the fastest android.. but I guess that works only when there is enough RAM..
to traumatism: Not sure here, but didn't it say in the marketplace that the notifications (by that I mean info in status bar about new message, comment etc showing up even when the fb app is not running) are available only for android 2.2 and up?
