HI Everyone,
Since i started using the M2D Rom's i have had no 3G only GPRS, a coincidence im sure, so i decided to flash a Vodafone stock ROM, excellent the 3G and H connections came back and worked until i flashed another ROM and then i lost it for good, flashed the Vodafone ROM again and nothing, still only GPRS, left it like that, annoyed but convinced the 3G module on my phone was now dead.
Flashed a T-mobile Rom yesterday and wolla, 3G came back, but this time only lasted a day, "What's the deal with this, the engineer side of me says if the 3G module is dead it should stay dead, right ?"
I know this has been covered as i have read everyone's posts on the matter but i refuse to accept the only way to fix this is to have the motherboard repaired, it seems there must be a way of getting this working but how, its not Rom, Radio related, something else.
If anyone has actually fixed this fault without letting someone rip there phone apart then please, let me know, it would be much appreciated.
Steve
Im having the same issues here in the US, And i have tried diffrent radios with diffrent ROMs as well
Usually that failure starts by being intermittent, then it's gone for good. On mine the 2G radio eventually died too about 1 month after the 3G one, I couldn't connect to any cellular network anymore.

Dont have any problem with 2G thank god, but 3G is mostly dead, occasionally after flashing a stock rom it will work, this is what intrigues me ? very strange.
Voice and 2G/3G connection every now and then falls away.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have the following problem.
Hi I have a plan with extra fast with endless online. But every now and then suddenly falls away and my connection voice and 2G/3G can I just restore it in airplane mode to turn back and pick up.
Are there more people with same problem? I have an G1. The SIM card only 8 weeks old.
I like to hear from you.
I have experienced this before also.
Happens to me fairly often too.
Exactly just had this happen to me today while in the grocery store. Rebooted and it was back, but still weird.
I actually used to have that problem too, where data just went away. Rebooting worked, but then one day a reboot didn't work, next day I got 3g. Then I decided to go to hero roms and haven't had the problem since, so I think that hero does something that fixes the network
Sometimes i go from a 3G to G then ut decides to go to edge. There are even times when it doesnt connect to data at all.
you go in and out of coverage area's and that's what happen's, t-mobile's 3g network isn't as expansive as they'd have you believe, plenty of pockets/holes throughout, even in places where it should be all 3g.
how is this post not moved/deleted/flamed yet for being in the dev's section :-D

Yeah, but I mean that I would have data then it would turn off and it would turn back on in the same place after a reboot.
And I think most of us just finally gave up on keeping questions out of the development sections, it is a lost cause. At least for me it is
Well yes staying on tmo might as well be a lost cause...i struggle to stay on 3G and even on data period, i doubt verizon or sprint would give me these troubles...
It's not a coverage problem, It can happen at the top floor of my school where usually I would have full bars, and as said it's fixed by switching into Airplane mode and then back to normal mode.
I think it happens when it's in my pocket and the coverage strength goes up and down a lot, maybe it gets a bit confused lol (Although it didn't happen on the stock firmware, running Cyanogen 4.2.7.1)
Its not only T-mobile, I too have that problem that too being in India on Airtel Also had these problems at National Roaming... Means When I was Out of local Network too... So its not the Problem of Coverage...
There's an open bug for this particular problem
Cf:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2845
I've had this problem since day one on my G1, it doesn't matter what ROM I'm running, it even did it with the stock ROM.
It seems Android isn't so great at reconnecting you to the network once you've lost signal. Ideally you need a process running in the background to reconnect you - think 'No Signal Alert' in the market with an option to scan for networks then reconnect you.
I've got a shortcut on one of my home screens to the network operators scan page as I have to do this most days
Good old T-Mobile coverage..
Well with the rumors of Sprint and T-Mobile merging hopefully they will band together and give us better coverage. 3G and or 4G all day and all night would be HUGE!!!
If any big CEO's is reading this from either of these companies, PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!

HA Ha Ha Ha............ NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!
We would never ever take that network over....Ours maybe spotty but we WILL have the fastest 3G Network................4G is a joke...if you look at the fine print 4G is their goal but isn't even possible yet....DT (t-moble Mother company) over seas was looking into buying sprint but they're in way too much debt....issues from this post sounds like simcard or issues with the IHLR (our backdoor) so call t-mobile to make sure it cannot be fix on our end or... it can be a bad radio download or flash...I have 1 bar on 3G and 2 on edge but i have never had the issues stated in this post so coverage is not it!!! hope this helps!
I also have issues with signal being dropped or getting hung. My G1 will be sitting in the same place for an hour or longer and sometimes it just stops transfering data. I'll check it by going to the market and it can take a few min before anything happens. Sometimes when I download an app from the market it will take up to 5 or 10 min to see anything transfer. I haven't noticed any issues with taking or making calls but data transfers are touch and go. Now sometimes I won't have a problem all day then the next day...in the same spot with great coverage....data transfers just seem to be sketchy. I don't know if it's t-mobile or the roms but something is quirky.

Actually i have seen that happening with the market too but only with a theme added to the rom...must be something with background data transfers and the theme using too much memory....but is not an issue at all on non rooted phones....i checked at work!!!
curious

Pm me since off topic....
hi there, well basically i am running
skydragon v23.0
firmware version is 4.19.661.8
baseband version 4T.21.3218.21_10.16.1718.01L (which is the 3 uk version i chose during aroma install of the custom rom).
i remember getting some message from my 3 network back in like January stating they had activated 4g for me and to choose the GSM/WCDMA/LTE (auto) option from my drop down menu, which i did.
now its been like 3/4 months and im still having problems connecting to 4g. doesnt connect whatsoever and whenever im supposed to be in like a 4g area (based on 3's coverage checker) my phone shows either 3g/H sign and the internet is much worse off.
literally speedtests would show something silly like 0.2mb download / 0.5 upload or thereabouts!
ive rang up like last month or so about this and once they made me do few things and still no luck and they even rang me back like the next day or two and they were like oh, there was a mass issue in that area hence the 4g being affected and engineer would try get it resolved within next 30 days!!! when i queried about the other cities where i had been with 4g and same issue, kinda got fob'd off but i was in a rush too so had to cut the call short.
anyways, i was hoping to see if perhaps someone can enlighten me in regards to my current situation and maybe help me come to a solution?
thank you for your time!! much appreciated!!
My phone out of nowhere started doing this really fun thing where it drops to roaming at random. From what I can tell, the phone is not making a handoff to the next tower to avoid the roaming. For example, if I'm sitting under a tower with full 4G, everything is fine. If I have 2 bars, it will work in 4G for a while before dropping to 3G roaming. I am able to force it back into 4G by dropping in and out of Airplane mode.
I'm running the official CM11 4/30 nightly (I was on the March Snapshot until this started happening).
First I used some Google-Fu and found it's most likely a bad SIM. I swapped SIMs with my wife, she was stuck in 3G roaming, awesome! Went to Verizon, the switched the SIM, all good, right? Nope, I didn't notice it right away, left the store and thought all was good until I needed to use internet at work.
Next, I thought it was software, so I created a backup, and dirty installed the newest CM11 nightly. No change, so I did a full wipe and install. No luck.
So next I thought maybe the radio was corrupted, so I tried to update the radio, which didn't go so well. I got stuck in a boot loop and had to sideload the old driver and reflash. So I'm back up but still having this problem. I'm thinking my only thing I can do at this point is to go to stock and see if the updated radios make a difference.
I saw another guy is had the same problem, but he had his phone replaced. I'm not sure if that will work for me since I purchased via Swappa (I do have Asurion insurance though).
So what help do I need?
1) Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
2) Are there any good instructions out there for how to flash to stock?*
3) Are there any good instructions on how to re-root and flash back to a custom ROM once taking the newest OTA?*
*Most of the instructions I've found have been pretty confusing and use a lot of acronyms without explaining them. I'd be willing to write some cleaner instructions for a sticky if someone would be willing to help me out with any questions I have.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate any help offered.

I'm fairly certain it's hardware. I spent a day using my Galaxy Nexus - full 4G the entire day.
I went back to stock, "bricked" my phone about 3 times doing it (quotes because it was salvageable, but I had a couple hours where I was googling like a madman worried I dun ****ed up). Stock and the new radios made no difference. In fact, with stock it would only go to 4G if I restarted it - airplane wouldn't even bring 4G back. Figure that one out.
I went to the VZW store and I'm basically screwed. I can call LG and see if they'll replace it or use Asurion. Since I got the device off Swappa, they cannot replace it. They tried to order me a new one, but the system wouldn't let them. I don't really have time to call LG, so I'm probably going to Asurion it. Their process is stupid simple to do and they'll have a phone to me the next day. Then I can spend all day tinkering with it and getting CM11 back on, which I feel like I'm an expert at right now.
Sorry, wish I had better news. If you got the device from VZW, go to the store after flashing to stock. They might want to try swapping your SIM first though, so make sure you go to a store that has decent 4G coverage in its surrounding area.

Thanks dude. I think you are right, flash stock and get a new sim first. I have a hard time believing its a hardware problem. I just wrote this in the other post about roaming:
"Same exact problem here. I was on the phone with Verizon last night. I was running cloudy pro 2 (all his roms for that matter as they are international roms) and kept getting the roaming issue you speak of...with 3g. I went back to 11A completely bone stock. Just like you mentioned, I get 4g but then after like 10 minutes I get 3g with roaming. Of course this is after I spent 30 minutes on the phone with tech support. They 'zapped' my sim card and it appeared to work but no dice. Now before doing all this I downloaded build prop editor and changed the ro.build.target_country to US versus COM as everyone suggested in all the forums, still no dice. I've tried the toggle airplane mode trick...works for like 5 minutes and back to 3g roaming. I think maybe a new sim card and avoid international roms...bummer because cloudys roms are blistering fast. Interesting thing though, I installed xdabebbs rom and malladus' rom, after already running cloudys roms, and get 3g but no roaming. I also verified that Verizon wasn't throttling me or something like that. One more thing I tried is reflashing the basebands and 24A modem, no dice. If there is a build prop fix or some other fix I'd love to hear it.
Edit: One think I'd like to mention. When I had an S4 I switched between stock roms and AOSP roms and the network settings were responsible for causing the roaming because the stock rom was an older build than the AOSP. So when I had roaming, I'd reflashed the AOSP rom, changed the settings then flash the stock rom. It worked great. "
Edit#2: Ok making a little progress. Just did this:
Get a build.prop editor from the play store, and change ro.carrier to VZW and ro.build.target_operator to VZW and ro.build.target_country to US.
Initially it worked but when I make calls it gives me Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped and I cant make calls. I went into Settings, Apps, reset app preferences...that didn't fix it either.
4G/LTE is pretty solid now but again, I cant make calls.
Edit#3: Nevermind...roaming again.

Alright, so, I have some interesting news.
I got a replacement device from Asurion - not just a replacement, a brand new device out of the box. I pulled it out of the box, swapped the SIM, same exact issue .
I went to Verizon and *****ed up a storm. They basically said "you bought it on eBay, not our problem" (I actually did Swappa - but they don't know Swappa and they do know eBay).
So I got the guy in the store to do some digging, and apparently Verizon has a point opened up with LG as they're seeing this on more and more devices - especially since KK came out. So I figured I could try an older radio. The device was on 12B when it arrived. I just flashed stock to 10B and it's the same issue. I don't know what's going on at this point - nothing makes sense but its apparently a known issue that's been appearing since the KK update.
I'm going to call Asurion and request a new device again since this one is doing the same thing, we'll see what happens. I'm still leaning towards hardware and thinking there was a slew of bad radios that went out.
Just for giggles - and I have no reason whatsoever to think this will work. I'm going to swap out the new SIM that came with the phone. Originally, I just put in my old SIM since the new one was taking too long to activate. I'm having the exact same issue I had previously. With that, I'm going to leave the new SIM in and see if it has the same dropping issue. The guy in the store had mentioned he could swap out the SIM but after a few days it will crap out again... which makes zero ****ing sense. Because of that, I might as well see what happens if I pop a new SIM in. While again, this makes 0 sense, I'm wondering if maybe the phone is frying the SIM somehow?
Again, it makes no sense at all, but I have nothing else left to try other than getting Asurion to repeatedly send me phones until I find one that works or they replace for another type of phone (which I REALLY don't want). I'll drop an edit in an hour or so if what I try makes a difference.
Quick Edit:
I COULD just keep going to the VZW store and have them repeatedly swap out SIMs since it will fix it for a few days .
EDIT:
Got the new SIM installed and it's working. The guy in the VZW store told me that we can keep swapping SIMs and the same issue will happen, which again, makes no sense to me. I'm at a bit of a loss to be honest. I wonder if it's possible that my old device was frying the SIMs (again, makes no sense) and that maybe the new SIM not going in my old device will fix the issue.
What ROMs are you running? A phone frying a Sim does not sound likely at all. I got my new sim card and have been running xdabebbs ROM with no network issues. I feel like my issues stemmed from the Intl ROMs.

The only ROM I've ever run was CM11.
Same thing happened on stock though after flashing through the LG Flash Tool. Then, with the new phone from Asurion, used old SIM - 3G only. Used new SIM - 4G sticks.
Hey everyone,
I have an odd issue. I tried searching the forums, but I couldn't find anything like this. So basically, after I restart my phone or if I put it on Airplane mode for a bit my phone will connect to LTE fine. However, after 5-10 mins or so it will switch to 3G and stay there. It will also switch to 3G after I disconnect from a WIFI network.
When I'm connected to LTE it works just fine. I live in the Dallas, TX area and LTE coverage is pretty good where I live/frequent. Any thoughts?
Oh, I am running Liquid Smooth 6/19 build with the Furnace Kernel. I was experiencing this with other ROMs too.
Thanks.

I'm in Plano, just got this phone about a week and a half ago. Dying to get AOSP on it, but anyway, my LTE coverage is great and it rarely drops, but when it does drop to 3G it does not seem to want to switch back. It doesn't happen often, but I just toggle airplane mode and it reconnects to LTE immediately.

Known issue among Sprint Techs just noy really put out there. Newest update has improved it for some but on some people the solution is as you describe; toggle airplane mode on then off
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Free mobile app
Actually the update is supposed to make it worse for a reason, a lot of people were having issues with no data at all in areas whee spark want up ask the way yet. So the new update should make your phone sick in whatever band it's on for longer

Good to know I am not alone.
I just s-off'd and flashed Captains latest firmware. Problem still seems to persist. I am going to switch to a Sense based ROM and see what happens.
I do remember reading somewhere that Sprint is intentionally sending people to 3G where their Spark network isn't complete so as to avoid a poor Spark user experience. I can't remember the source though, somewhere out on Google...
In our area it cleared up issues for people with no commection; theyve had better experience with lte now.

I flashed Viper and haven't dropped to 3G once today. Hmmm. Going to do a clean flash of an AOSP rom tomorrow to see if the issue returns.
Ok, I have flashed (super wipe each time) Dirty Unicorns, Liquid Smooth, CandyKat, Pac-Man, C-Rom, and the latest CM 11 nightly. Every ROM had this problem with the exception of the CM11 nightly. I did not install any gaps, I just installed the rom and let it sit there...
I noticed that right before I would drop to 3G (on all ROMs except CM11) i would get a message stating that my SIM card had locked and that I needed to reboot. Then, about 30 seconds after that I would drop to 3G. If I changed my mobile network from LTE to Global it seemed to delay the SIM lock message for about 30 minutes.
After toggling Airplane mode I would connect to LTE again....and that is where I am at right now....about 10 minutes into that and still connected to LTE.
Edit: Just dropped to 3G after 15mins, bah!

It makes sense when you consider the fact that the SIM card in our phones is a requirement of 4g/LTE/Spark. Having the SIM lock on us renders it useless and you would then be kicked down to 3G since you can no longer meet the requirements for the faster connections....
I got so annoyed with this bug that I've switched to a sense-based ROM (ARHD) indefinitely even though i love AOSP and used to flash Carbon, Liquidsmooth, and Pacman roms almost every day and usually a couple times per day if they all got updated that day. I can't stand the stupid simcard lock bug they're having right now though...interesting that CM 11 nightly is no longer having this issue you say? When I was last troubleshooting this with roms I was getting it on the CM 11 nightly as well...but it has been a while...Hopefully if the latest CM 11 nightlies have fixed this issue the other guys will catch up soon.

When I was last troubleshooting this with roms I was getting it on the CM 11 nightly as well...but it has been a while...Hopefully if the latest CM 11 nightlies have fixed this issue the other guys will catch up soon.

Gummy Rom seems to work too. I was on it for about 2 days and I was on LTE almost the entire time. It did drop to 3G, but it went back to LTE shortly after without me having to toggle airplane mode.
i m having problem with network sir

It makes sense when you consider the fact that the SIM card in our phones is a requirement of 4g/LTE/Spark. Having the SIM lock on us renders it useless and you would then be kicked down to 3G since you can no longer meet the requirements for the faster connections....
