Hi Developers / Users of Galaxy S,
Can anybody explain the differences between "Samsung Galaxy S - I9000" and the new "Samsung Nexus S"? Both hardware wise and software wise?
Thanks in advance,
Senthur

dont understand one thing on the comparison chart, it says galaxy s has no front camera when mine does and apart from that it looks to me as if the phones are exactly the same pretty much, one thing i do wonder about is why they have changed the nexus from a htc to a samsung? not that its a wrong thing to do as i love my new galaxy s its just a thought really

I suppose Samsung have Super Amoled, which is very attractive...

Uppon looking at this link and mine to me both sites are saying the nexus s isn't as good a phone but does have a flash on it, worth getting? Not in my opinion
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Is the nexus s only better because of the OTA updates?
No card slot, big no no for me..
Is it cheaper than the galaxy s?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
only guessing but id imagine it would be more expensive than the sgs, another thing comes to mind, if is nexus s can get ota why cant the sgs? not that it matters really as im guessing most on here would be updating manually anyway but just a thought
just found this
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/NEXUS_S_FROM_GOOGLE
and this
http://www.google.co.uk/products/ca...rPHKmsywWK1KzTCQ&sa=title&ved=0CAcQ8wIwADgA#p
basically telling us that the nexus will be around £100 more
yes it is $100 more, and it has less stuff than the Galaxy S
unless they think a Flash light vs. microSD card support is an equal business

There's now an OTA update option in the latest SGS Android 2.2.1 firmware release, so all indications are that future updates can now be pushed OTA.
I have a feeling that part of the Google deal with Samsung involved them not messing about so much with their Android OS and enabling Handset owners to have the updated over the air. Now there is just the carriers to deal with.

So where the hell is the early July update for Bell's Galaxy S?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Hey man,
Great news, the update is out. In fact, it has been out since over a year.
Its called rooting your phone to install a polished, stable and overall superior rom.
2$ it'll be out tomorrow morning!
The SGS2 came out on july 14th and they probably didn't want to kill sales by upgrading the original SGS to GB first.
Now that it's available, I would expect the update anytime soon...
I live in Canada and bought my Galaxy s from bell also last year.
Whats wrong with you, root your phone.
Man, the experience is incomparable. Samsung takes an average 6month before dropping a new minor update that adds bugs of its own. Root your phone and you'll thank me later.
I mean i was planning to buy a sgs2 to resolve many of the major problems i had with sgs. At a point i thought it was hardware, since no matter how many times i exchange my phone at futureshop for free, or no matter how many application i installed, my battery would only last 3 hours. And when it reached 10% left, it would freeze, lag and become unresponsive. After installing a rom, my phone now last over a day from extensive use.
Non rooted users are dependent of samsung and their carrier. Rooted phone have unlimited possibilities and their request and want are usually answered rapidly by the community.
What rom do you use?

Sadly, 80% of the rom available is faster and more stable that samsung firmware.
I used to use f1 galaxy s v6. Im testing many here and their before coming to a conclusion.
Anyways, this should be interesting for rooted users,

If and only "if" Gingerbread doesn't kill my i9000m internal SD like Froyo did, then I might stick with the i9000m...

I'm pretty sure those were hardware or manufacturing defects, that were blatantly exposed by Froyo.
Complaints nose-dived in January and all but disappeared after they finally started getting properly repaired/built units out.

Actually it was a combo effect.
People that had the October and November Internal SD's, plus the original launch of Froyo were the main ones affected. Too many threads to post about this, but most are around here.
The Original Froyo FW was pulled for a reason.
All I know is that I had a "Perfect" and "Mint" November i9000m. Sadly the original Froyo upgrade didn't even 2 days with me. I had the *stutter vibrate* and then it was "Boot loop game over"...
i hope it out by friday. Knowing Bhell they will not release it till the end of the month or even later.
Hi, the sg2 will be available tomorrow with bell & virgin
So, for the room I agree, try a new rom. I had around 800 point in quadrant and now 1700 with a custom rom.

I looked into it as the LTE was very tempting, however, the processor was a deal breaker for me. I'll wait until AT&T has a Samsung phone with an Exynos processor and LTE. Good Luck and enjoy your note. Its still a good phone.

Had the Streak 5, good phone but I sold it to buy SGS2. I would not trade my SGS2 for a Streak even though I miss the 5" screen.
Buddy of mine just got a note and although the screen is amazing, my SGS2 just feels more speedy. I would trade for a note, but they would need $50 extra to convince me.

Its just most of us are here cause we like our phones, if you go to the note they will tell you they love the phone.
If you go to another section its going to be the same thing for the most part.
Go to the store, play with it for a good amount of time and see if you like it.
Personally I thought it was too big for me.
You can always try it out and see if you like it. I still think its a little too big but that's me. Everyone's opinions will be subjective. If your going for the international version that will be a different story. The AT&T version might not have as much support.

Isn't their return policy 30 days with a $35 restocking fee? If your willing to eat that, than yes, I'd definitely at least try it out. Other than LTE and a huge display I don't really see what this phone offers over the OG Galaxy SII? The screen isn't Super AMOLED Plus, its got that pentile display which isn't as nice. But you never know until you try it. Hang onto your GSII just in case.

Playing with my buddy's skyrocket I noticed a lag throughout the home screens. It wasn't bad by any means but it kind of felt like it couldn't keep up. The OG SII had no problem. Games will also perform better on the exynos processor as well.
For some its not a deal breaker. You be the judge.

Then you should be fine. Are you upgrading to the Note or buying it off contract? If so, I would't get it from AT&T, as you'll pay an arm and a leg.
Hello everyone,
One of my friends is looking to sell his barely used Note which he bought last month for a very good price. I may get for as low as $270. I checked the phone and I loved the screen but not the plastic-y feeling.
My question is: do you guys think it's still worth buying a Note(am not willing to pay for a note 2)? My other question is that I am a Gnex user running jelly bean and I wanted to know if there are any good jb roms available for the note ?
I also heard that Samsung said it would update the note to the official 4.1.1!

you can outrightly flash stock 4.0.4 to the Gnote. You can either go flashing it via PC KIES or PC Odin. If you want custom Rom's then there's plenty around this forum as well... Just do a search on the 'Android Development' thread and check out some custom Roms that might suit to your liking.
Off topic but why do people consider the Note cheap plastic feeling? I've always had HTC before this and this phone doesn't feel cheap at all to me
probably because of the compactness. When you take battery cover off you might think cheap. I don't, It's practical so thin. So far it works great, wasn't expecting that lol

A rooted Galaxy S I9000 is still pretty good, but if you can afford it I recommend you the Xiaomi MI-2.
I personally think that the i9000 is a great phone. It was my first Galaxy class and is still with me
I rooted the phone and switched over to running JellyBean (SlimRom version) and think it is just great. I do prefer the S2 just because it is that much faster, but finding it hard to part with my trusty original
Good all round phone but a little slow on some of the major games (I believe - though cannot vouch for that)
Just as I was starting to get use to the size of the Note 3 and all the crazy bloatware on this device, I gave up ... and have started using the Nexus 5 as of Friday. Anyone else move to the Nexus 5 from the Note 3? Are you keeping it in hopes of CM 10.3 someday soon or selling it? Trying to decide if I'll hold on to mine in hopes of a good root and CM ROM soon, or will the Nexus 5 be my phone for the next few months.

I've been on the fence to do it since Nexus came out. But one of my colleagues has it and display is not good at all. it is 1080p but a mediocre one. It has pinkish hue in whites. I like its size and feel but Note is something else as far as battery and display. The only thing that sucks as for now is not knowing when 4.4 is coming.
I got my note a few days before the nexus came out. But I'm glad I got my note, I think it's superior to the nexus in all ways, except for the vanilla and getting updates immediatly aspect. I just wish att would give an option to unlock our bootloader. If they do then I definitely will not regret buying this phone at all.

No way lol. Stock Android is boring and a complete joke to me. And the look of it with the big icons is just stupid.
Add to all of that terrible battery life, a mediocre camera, worse speaker than on this phone and it's a big nope for me.
And did I mention how much I hate stock Android and how boring it is? I love the features of the Note and will deal with some bloat to have all of those features.
The Nexus are popular because of lower price and immediate updates. Otherwise they suck imo.

My wife just got LG G2. It's considered to have an excellent display. But I was reminded how much I love Oleds. And not for the saturated colors (I put it in movie mode) but for deep blacks. People should make a bigger deal regarding the contrast of these screens. It's truly a major feature and affects the whole experience.
So while I would consider a Nexus 5 a great phone the oled will bring me back to Samsung devices. I just wish Samsung got their act together software wise.

Hey bro same here. What did you use to debloat since we don't have access to a recovery or roms without tripping knox. Otherwise I would have used the Rom Cleaner for debloating since it's an update.zip. Did you just uninstall with Titanium? Let me know, I appreciate it!

I agree, can't wait to get some custom debloated ROMs on this baby. Also, I miss my Infuse 4g!

I still have my good old infuse, if the sim card slot wasn't broken I wouldn't have this note 3 haha. Such an upgrade though. To me the nexus 5 seems like a step down also.

Yeah I just used Titanium to uninstall things that I knew were safe to uninstall and then froze whatever I was iffy about.
Then I installed the xposed framework and Wanam to customize my status bar and other things. The phone is running great and is exactly how I how I want it right now.
Good luck!

Awesome, thanks. Debloating it now with titanium and this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470862
While I would love to have vanilla google over cartoony touchwiz, it's a step down to go to the N5. Pretty much every phone atm is a step down imo.
I'd consider giving it a try if I could find a used one somewhere, but I've had every version of the note, and it's the only android line that keeps me coming back to android.
