Hi all,
In the Settings menu, under social, since upgrading to 1.0.1 and rooting, I now get an "invalid parameter!" error. Under 1.0 and root, I did not have this error and was able to link my Google account. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, what did you do to resolve it.
Thanks
Kim
Having the same issue. +1 to looking for anyone with any knowledge on how to resolve.
I had same issue. I unrooted, did a factory rest and it was still there. I updated firmware...still there. RE-rooted...still there. Un-rooted, called support, and after an hour on the phone following their instructions I was told to return it to the store (within return period).
I have updated firmware and rooted this one with no problem with the Social section under Settings.

Interesting. I also have the same problem in my 1.0.1 rooted version. but I haven't had this problem in my 1.0.0 versions (both stock & rooted) of my NC.
I hope that this will not be a hardware problem...
I just noticed mine is doing the same thing after rooting. Does anyone else experience this problem?

My girlfriend just got off the phone with tech support cause of this problem. Her nook was working awesome after the update but she had to do a factory reset for another issue and when it came back on, thats when she saw invalid parameters. Long story short, they couldnt resolve the issue and they're making her mail her nook back so she can get a new one. Oh and her nook was never rooted so this problem isn't just for the rooted nooks.
+1 worked initially but at some point since rooted 'invalid parameters' is all that appears now.
none of the usual solutions (unroot, reset, wipe, etc) have made a scrap of difference. Maybe a settings file somewhere on the device that doesn't get replaced after reset/wipe which is hard to believe. Only way to find it might be to compare to stock NC with/without the problem.
I haven't noticed any other issues though. Perhaps the problems lies in a cookie or session type ID that is linked to the nook but resides on the servers.
hoping someone smarter than me (not difficult) finds an answer.
Same problem here. Firmware 1.0.1 with autonook. The message will show even after complete format. I called customer support and after 10 minutes the guy told me that his supervisor informed him that several people are calling with the same problem an that the issue will be resolved with an update in the future. I'm going for an exchange anyway.
if anybody has it working on a rooted 1.0.0 or a 1.0.1 version can you use ADB and pull the /data/data/com.bn.nook.social folder and possibly post it up here?
My nc is rooted on 1.0.1 and Social does the error thing, and this is what the above file contains:
databases/
recommendations.db
webview.db
webviewCache.db
No other folders in the main one or anything. I think there should be a shared_prefs folder out there...
Check the files first for any sensitive password info!
- Will.
Mine started doing this after my last reset, so I upped it back to 1.0.1 and it still continued. I figured I did it with the root, but then I asked the guy at the store if he had heard of it. He said that they have had a few complaints about it, and that only a few of the devices with the issue had been rooted. So, it seems it has something to do with the original firmware.
He seems to think that if you setup Social, then reset and deregister, the setting isn't getting cleared (the guy is pretty savvy at our store). He has been keeping an unofficial tally, and said that he will ask others that have the problem if they did the same thing.
I agree, that sounds like the sequence of events that led to it happening for me.
I exchanged my unit about 2 weeks ago, rerooted to 1.0.1 and it still works as of today (knock on wood).
One thing I do remember before the problem, is the fact that I had task manager setup to kill the social app. Maybe this corrupted something inside the file system and led to the problem.

I'm using Modaco's Desire ROM, but I doubt it's a ROM issue given that the problem only started recently (and never occurred in previous alpha builds) and that, from a quick google search, this seems to happen on a range of Android phones, stock ROMs and otherwise. I think the problem started when I added a second gmail account to the phone temporarily because I needed to check my other mailbox. Removed that account since, though.
I tried doing the fix_permissions method. No luck. Rebooted the phone, no luck. I suppose I'll have the phone anyway when Paul releases the next alpha and hopefully that will fix it, but before that point, does anyone have any idea how do I deal with this? Not being able to use the market is bugging me.

Have you tried manually signing into G-Talk?
Yep. Stuck at "Signing in..." perpetually, so no go there either, alas.

About half the time I dl from market the dl doesn't start. I restart the phone and its fixed. Sometimes I hold power and when menu comes up, the dl starts. But yeah I'm not rooted and it happens constantly on WiFi , 3g, e , g networks.
That didn't do the trick either, sadly. Guess I'll just wipe when alpha 13 comes out.
Just downloaded and updated to 5.6.890 on both mine and my sisters D3's. Update went fine on both, applied and rebooted OK.
GTalk video chat works on my sisters, but not on mine. When I choose the video chat icon within GTalk, it goes flashes to a black screen and then right back to the contacts list.
When I try it on my sisters, it initiates the front camera and tries to call me, but my phone doesn't ring or notify me of an incoming chat.
Neither phone is currently rooted, but mine was BEFORE the update. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I don't see an uninstall for it because I guess it's considered a system app, so not sure how I may be able to remove and re-install it.
Any ideas?
both phone has to be on the .890 ota update for gtalk video chat to work
Yes, as I mentioned...they have both been updated.
I'd try performing a Factory Restore through "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Factory Restore".
I never really like applying updates on top of previously configured systems. Call me OCD, but I like a fresh-clean install to ensure all the bugs are out. This also allows me to re-download my apps, only installing the ones I need.
Wrong post sorry

Same problem as you...
After the OTA update, Talk video acts the same as you described. It works fine on her D3, but not on mine. I've already tried a factory reset, and I tried changing out the .apk's manually using one from someone else's update. Solutions anyone?
I'm having the exact same problem. The problem is mentioned here and there throughout the internet. No idea how to get by it so far.
I got both OTA and manual so it doesn't make any sense to me why it doesn't work.

Were either of you rooted before the update? That is the only difference I can see between mine and my sisters phone. Hers was complete untouched stock, and the GTalk video works as expected. Mine was rooted when I performed the update and get the black screen and back to contact list.
Maybe unrooting before updating would avoid the issue? Would need to experiment to test that theory.

Same exact setup+problem here.
attached logs from when it dies.
Since Thursday morning I have been having issues with my Droid Bionic after Verizon did the OTA update to Android 4.0.4 System version 6.7.246.
The initial problem was that after the OTA installed my phone was bricked. After many attempts to bring it back and my bosses being rather unhappy that I no longer had a phone I went through the warranty/insurance and they sent me a new phone the next day. Now I of course need to root it. I have tried all the Razor's Edge based roots I could find on both a 32 and 64 bit Win 7 system with the latest drivers as found on the Motorola website. The Razor's Edge systems (ADB.exe specifically) don't seem to find my device so they don't move forward (Figured that out by copying out the individual commands from the Batch file to see where it stops). I just tried downloading and using the Motofail on these forums and after downloading it says that it won't run on my system.
Has anyone else been having these kind of issues when you updated OTA or have been trying to root? I do know when I talked to Verizon the rep had said she had already covered two calls about odd behavior after the update. I find it very funny though that I haven't had such issues when I upgraded my Nook Color to ICS.

Ok I just want to make sure I am on the right page. The House of Bionic method will push out an update to 246 which already includes root access? Rereading my previous post I realize I may not have made it clear that with the replacement phone the OTA update did work so I am on 246.
I could not get Razor's Edge to work on my new laptop(W7 64bit) but Motofail worked perfectly. Have you tried it?

Not yet. I know I had issues downloading it and when I tried to run it I was informed that it wouldn't run on my computer but that was only on the 32 bit computer so I have yet to head back home and try on a 64bit. Also I am not 100% sure of a good download location, I seem to remember hitting a lot of incorrect ones including one from the developer that said it was a defunct method.
As I said for this rooting my luck has been a whole lot of bad.
I downloaded from the Motofail thread.

Never realized how much I was spoiled with root until the ics ota took it from me! =( lol. Thank you all for the postings, comments, and feed back. Bionic after updates goes back to previous owners account
Hello, not sure if I'm posting in the correct place but I need some help. I purchased my bionic on ebay about a year ago. My service is through pageplus. After receiving updates the phone reverts back to the previous owners info and will not work for me. I then have to have it flashed, which has been done 4 times now. Last night was the most recent. Everything is working for me fine but when I look at about phone and status its still showing the previous owners phone no. and min. but when dial the program codes it shows my no and min. Can I fix this and how can I get it to stop reverting back..

I am so sorry to read that this is happening. I am not 100% sure but it sounds to me like the phone was never de-registered after it was activated with your current service. I would think that doing a system restore back to stock and then going through the motions of re-registering the phone to your account and service provider may work. The only other thing I am able to think of is that it may have been rooted to the original owner and they never un-rooted it and de-registered prior to selling it.
Hope this gives a better idea or maybe some one else whom knows more then I will respond.
Gl,
Cheers ....

So today I decided to factory reset my HTC One, and install back some applications I had previously.
However, after the factory reset I am unable to either install or update any application, with the Google Play Store returning: ""{app}" could not be downloaded due to an error. (403)".
I've been looking around a bit and have seen quite some others with this issue, however no solutions have worked for me. What I've tried:
Logged into Hangouts and confirmed mobile number.
Removed Google account in settings --> Go to Apps>All> and force stop Google Play Store, Google Service Framework and Download Manager, then clear cache and data for each --> Added back Google account --> Restarted device (without launching Google Play Store).
Using a new gmail account.
Clearing Proxy: I've looked in my Wi-Fi and APN Settings, both of which have no proxy set to begin wit.
Using 3G instead of Wi-Fi.
Another factory reset (repeated other steps afterwards).
Installing apps onto my device from my PC (it won't attempt to install them on the phone).
Please note my phone is not rooted and I'm not planning on rooting my phone any time soon.
Thanks in advance,
Errors4l.

Interesting, this is happening to me also after a factory reset of my HTC One. Tried all of the above, my phone too is not rooted however the bootloader is unlocked.

Yeah I've encountered quite some threads of people having this problem with the HTC One, however their solutions have not worked for me. Hoping someone can bring an answer to this thread
Yea it just seems unusual that it has happened to us pretty much at the same time under the same circumstances, maybe there is some issue with the store rather than our devices, I hope so!
Having exactly the same problem, tried everything. Even got a new handset because of the original issue which caused me to perform the factory reset. Maybe a problem with Google Play?
Hey guys!
I did a factory reset on my LG Swift L9 today
and also can't download any app from Google Play
due to 403. It may not be related to HTC One only.

I've got a new Nexus 5 delivered to me hours ago, first time using it and i can confirm the same sadly, hopefully it will be resolved soon !
What would be the quickest way to alert a mod so that the thread can be moved to a non device specific forum?
Hi all,
Picked up a Nexus 7 today - it was initially loaded with an old build of Android (Blue connectivity bars not white etc) and everything seemed to be working fine. Notification popped up for me to install the latest version, so I stopped what I was doing, got it installed and I'm now stuck with the same 403 errors as everyone else.
Looks to me like a Play Store issue but damn infuriating seeing as I can't even put any basic apps on my shiny new Nexus.
Noticed on another forum earlier that someone was having the same issue, and a guy responded saying he'd returned his Galaxy Tab to the store it came from today (Curry's, I think?) and after the staff there contacted Samsung - they were told that it was an issue with the Play Store. No obvious citations of course, but seems pretty legit what with everything else going on.
And now we wait...

(Not so) sorry for double post.
I just tried again, without making any changes to my phone, and I just downloaded 3 different apps (2 I had previously, 1 new one).
Need a confirmation if the problem is solved for other people (with different devices) before I request a close.
Yeah, it works for me too now!

Nope, still 403'ing over here. But I'll keep checking in case it's gradually being fixed.
Still getting errors here too.
403 =/
I'm glad it's not just me.
I tried resetting/clearing everything thinking it was my phone cos I just recently rooted and flashed this brand spanking new HTC One (it was a replacement for my broken HTC One that had a working store :crying, until I went ahead and Googled this annoying error.
Seems like it's a problem on the Google end! =/
Get same error, tried RUU reset and ViperOne ROM.
Still 403 error! Very annoying
Spent 2 hours or so messing installing cyanogen on my new nexus and thought I'd ****ed up. Then googled it. I can believe it, talk about bad timing. lol
Looks like we are not alone...
https://twitter.com/search?q=error 403&src=typd&f=realtime
Several months ago I installed CM10 on my Nook HD+ and for the most part everything runs perfectly.
However in mid March I installed a Cyanogen update and very soon after I noticed many of my apps (all downloaded from Amazons app of the day) would not run, giving me the following error:
Internal Service Error: An internal error occurred. This can be caused by a lack of network connectivity, please make sure you have a good network connection.
At the time, I Googled and tried the suggestions I found (although the suggestions were all for other devices such as Kindle Fire). I checked the time and date were correct, deregistered and reregistered my device and tried rebooting.
And that seemed to fix the issue, although I concede I havent been using the Nook much lately.
Tonight I went to use my Nook to play a few games and the problem is back and its even worse now. I now cannot play any of my games, even ones I have played numerous times before without any wifi turned on. We dont have wifi at home, I tether my phone when I want to use the internet on my Nook. I do know there are some games that require internet access, however the vast majority of mine dont, which I know for a fact as I've played them so often with no internet.
So, why all of a sudden, does everything need wifi? How can I fix this? Is it just coincidence the problem occurred immediately after a system update, and if it could be the update that caused it, how can I find out which update it was and can it be uninstalled?
The instances of this I found mentioned online mainly referred to it happening to just one app, and some people found uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixed the issue. But I have close to 200 apps all doing this.
Since I mainly use the Nook for playing these games, its useless to me as it is now and if I cant fix this issue I wont have any choice but to remove the Mod and return it to stock software, which I really dont want to have to do.
Please can someone help me with this, in basic, non-technical language please?
Thank you.
Hello?
Please, does anyone have any input on this problem? Have I asked in the wrong forum?
I asked about this in another forum and it was suggested that maybe the update made my Nook appear like a new device to Amazon and that the error message is the games wanting to confirm with Amazon that the license to run the game was correct (or something along those lines).
I have just tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of games and now they work so it would appear that suggestion is exactly what has happened. So I guess I now have to uninstall and redownload all those 200+ apps and games, which is going to be a nightmare with no internet at home.
And if updates cause the device to appear different, then how do I know this wont keep happening with future updates? I am not going to keep reinstalling every thing, so do I just turn updates off instead? That doesnt seem like a very wise idea.
I would really appreciate some help with this please, or even just to be pointed in the right direction if I should be asking elsewhere.
Thank you.
Well I guess no one has any advise or help of any kind to offer. I will post this update in case anyone else has the same issue.
I ended up having to uninstall and redownload every one of my apps, and now they all work fine again, so I can only assume the suggestion I received on a different forum that the update made my device appear as a new device, meaning the internet was needed for the apps to check licenses with Amazon was correct.
With this in mind, I would now never recommend the Cyanogen mod to any one else. Whats the point if updates are going to screw everything like this? I have now turned off the updates, which I would normally never do. When my Nook gets to the stage of having to have updates I will uninstall Cyanogen and just go back to using a stock Nook.
Its a shame as I have been very happy with it up until all this happened but since there is no back up or support from anyone when things go wrong, its simply not worth the hassle.
