[Q] No Google Video Chat after .890 update - Motorola Droid 3

Just downloaded and updated to 5.6.890 on both mine and my sisters D3's. Update went fine on both, applied and rebooted OK.
GTalk video chat works on my sisters, but not on mine. When I choose the video chat icon within GTalk, it goes flashes to a black screen and then right back to the contacts list.
When I try it on my sisters, it initiates the front camera and tries to call me, but my phone doesn't ring or notify me of an incoming chat.
Neither phone is currently rooted, but mine was BEFORE the update. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I don't see an uninstall for it because I guess it's considered a system app, so not sure how I may be able to remove and re-install it.
Any ideas?

both phone has to be on the .890 ota update for gtalk video chat to work

Yes, as I mentioned...they have both been updated.

I'd try performing a Factory Restore through "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Factory Restore".
I never really like applying updates on top of previously configured systems. Call me OCD, but I like a fresh-clean install to ensure all the bugs are out. This also allows me to re-download my apps, only installing the ones I need.

Wrong post sorry

Same problem as you...
After the OTA update, Talk video acts the same as you described. It works fine on her D3, but not on mine. I've already tried a factory reset, and I tried changing out the .apk's manually using one from someone else's update. Solutions anyone?

I'm having the exact same problem. The problem is mentioned here and there throughout the internet. No idea how to get by it so far.
I got both OTA and manual so it doesn't make any sense to me why it doesn't work.

Were either of you rooted before the update? That is the only difference I can see between mine and my sisters phone. Hers was complete untouched stock, and the GTalk video works as expected. Mine was rooted when I performed the update and get the black screen and back to contact list.
Maybe unrooting before updating would avoid the issue? Would need to experiment to test that theory.

[Q] Android Market stuck on Starting Download

I have tried several different 2.2 builds on my (AT&T) HTC Pure. Most of what is supposed to work does, and it's fun to play with. However, what's really holding me back is an inability to download anything from the Android Maket. I can sign-in and browse just fine, but when I "Install" something and go to the downloads tab, all I find are apps that say "Starting Download" with a perpetually cycling progress bar. I've let it run for 15 minutes and never got anything to actually download. I do not have a data-plan, so I use wifi. I have verified that wifi works.
I have also noticed that I cannot sign into gTalk. I've seen several posts suggesting that once you sign into gTalk, that I'd be able to download apps (and vice-versa), but so far, neither of these applications/features is working for me.
The latest install I've tried is XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.FRX01.17.09.10.UPDATE_PACKAGE.7z and it still has this problem.
Has anybody else gotten around this problem and have some advice???
I tried using my phone to create a new google account, and that worked, but I still couldn't download.
Happened to me as well. I just forgot about it, and after a while I got an alert that one of the apps is now installed (and indeed working). The other apps on the list hanged as well, and took a lot of time to start downloading.
Seems like a nasty bug to me.
it's a small comfort to know I'm not alone, but I still haven't seen anything download successfully, and as long as I can't install new apps (from the market), there's really no point in using [XD]Android.
Try settings/applications/manage applications/market 'all tab' and force stop. Clear cache. Clear data. So next time you use market it is like new and downloads and installs without hanging etc. Your downloads tab should still have a record of apps you downloaded.

thanks anunna, but that didn't work. I tried downloading the apks for App Brain and the associated "Fast Web Installer" and copying to my device (storage card), but that doesn't seem to work any better. I guess those apps still depend on Android Market to download.
aarrrrrghh. so frustrating... I have now installed Rhod.2.2BLAZN.092610 with the new builds from 9/25 (hw 3d included), and still have this problem. Does anybody have any ideas?? I dont' see how this could be device-specific. ?? I've tried different gmail accounts, different builds, and different wifi networks. The only thing I haven't tried (and can't really) is accessing market over 3G. I say "can't" because I actually have a data-block on my phone to prevent unintentional use and associated charges.
Does anybody have any advice for troubleshooting ?
thanks.
BTW, this is what worries me about WP7: one source for all your apps = single point of failure.
I'll just keep updating my own thread here...
Installed the latest build from 9/28, and nothing's changed.
This time, I went straight into Google Talk and got stuck on the "signing in" screen. Eventually it came back with a message stating, "Could not connect to server. Will retry shortly." This is bogus though, since I can do nearly everything else on the internet, via my wifi connection.
I have the same problem. Android Market doesn't download any software, "Starting Download..." stage never ends...
ashway, have you tried opening Google Talk? Also, do you have a data plan on your phone (3G)?

I haven't try Google Talk yet, will try later. I do have a data plan, do you mean that Market works via 3G and doesn't through WiFi?
I have a data-block on my phone (so I don't accidentally rack up per Kb charges), so I access everything via WiFi. I've seen people suggesting that toggling between wifi or cellular can get it to work, but that's not an option fo me.

BOO! so, I'm out of luck??
(thanks for your update though)
Has anybody been able to download from A.M. over WiFi without ever using 3g?
It just happened to me while i'm updating a few apps. I did some research and found an article and follow that way. what you need to do is to un-install the app that you're updating. after that, forced close the Market app and clear the cache. then try again to install it from market. well, it works for me.
by the way, there's also another bug that make Market FC every time when u download an app. if it happen to you, just open Setting>Applications>Manage Application> Market and click "Uninstall Updates".
I am in Malaysia and I have this problem too. It is either "Starting Download...", "Download Unsuccessful" or "Download Paused" message.
I'd tried both 3G (3 different telcos; Vodafone while in NZ, Optus while in AU and Maxis in MY)and WiFi (different AP; at least 10). While connected, I can do everything except for download apps from Market. Also tried signing in different Gmail account.
Being desperate, I tried to install Apps via "adb install" command. Guess what, I couldn't uninstall my apps (both using "adb uninstall" and "Settings > Application > AppName > Uninstall"). It force close everytime I tried.
I got OTA updates for FRG83 twice hoping it will fix my Market problem, but it did not install because it can't. When I tried sdcard:update.zip, I got status 7 error. Some livewallpaperspicker.odex error. Tried searching for the odex but couldn't find one specifically for Nexus One.
Also tried rooting my phone and install ROM Manager. Performed a Fix Permission issue (which it claims often fix Force Close message; one friend recommended this too) and all I got is "An error occurred while attempting to run privellege...". I am sure it is rooted with Superuser Permissions showing "Allow" status. To confirm, I had Move2SD installed and able to port most apps to SD without the developer setting the option.
Just want to share this with all of you that have this problem. Is there anyone can help? The only thing that makes me keep this phone is because its a gift from my wife. Or else I would just get something else.
guys I have the same problem as you do! something I noticed though is that the phone doesnot recognise my SD card and market is downloading the apps on the card . can you pls check your sd card if they are mounted and recognized propperly!
restarting the phone and letting the card mount propperly fixed the adnroid market download freeze issue

brafun, are you using XDAndroid on a TD2/Pure? Were you experiencing problems only when using wifi? do you have a cellular data plan/connection? Does wifi download work now? I'm a bit confused, since XDAndroid is installed on my SD, I don't see how you can have Android running without recognizing it.
thanks

Your guess is as good as mine but the fact is that when I was trying to download an app the behaviour was exactly the same as you described it! It said Starting Download and froze at that point. Cleaning the Cache of market didnt help at all. THen I just started looking for reasons why is this happening, and in "SD card and phone storage" I saw that the SD card was marked as not mounted... check yours and see what it says

[Q] "Social" Settings says Invalid Parameter

Hi all,
In the Settings menu, under social, since upgrading to 1.0.1 and rooting, I now get an "invalid parameter!" error. Under 1.0 and root, I did not have this error and was able to link my Google account. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, what did you do to resolve it.
Thanks
Kim
Having the same issue. +1 to looking for anyone with any knowledge on how to resolve.
I had same issue. I unrooted, did a factory rest and it was still there. I updated firmware...still there. RE-rooted...still there. Un-rooted, called support, and after an hour on the phone following their instructions I was told to return it to the store (within return period).
I have updated firmware and rooted this one with no problem with the Social section under Settings.

Interesting. I also have the same problem in my 1.0.1 rooted version. but I haven't had this problem in my 1.0.0 versions (both stock & rooted) of my NC.
I hope that this will not be a hardware problem...
I just noticed mine is doing the same thing after rooting. Does anyone else experience this problem?

My girlfriend just got off the phone with tech support cause of this problem. Her nook was working awesome after the update but she had to do a factory reset for another issue and when it came back on, thats when she saw invalid parameters. Long story short, they couldnt resolve the issue and they're making her mail her nook back so she can get a new one. Oh and her nook was never rooted so this problem isn't just for the rooted nooks.
+1 worked initially but at some point since rooted 'invalid parameters' is all that appears now.
none of the usual solutions (unroot, reset, wipe, etc) have made a scrap of difference. Maybe a settings file somewhere on the device that doesn't get replaced after reset/wipe which is hard to believe. Only way to find it might be to compare to stock NC with/without the problem.
I haven't noticed any other issues though. Perhaps the problems lies in a cookie or session type ID that is linked to the nook but resides on the servers.
hoping someone smarter than me (not difficult) finds an answer.
Same problem here. Firmware 1.0.1 with autonook. The message will show even after complete format. I called customer support and after 10 minutes the guy told me that his supervisor informed him that several people are calling with the same problem an that the issue will be resolved with an update in the future. I'm going for an exchange anyway.
if anybody has it working on a rooted 1.0.0 or a 1.0.1 version can you use ADB and pull the /data/data/com.bn.nook.social folder and possibly post it up here?
My nc is rooted on 1.0.1 and Social does the error thing, and this is what the above file contains:
databases/
recommendations.db
webview.db
webviewCache.db
No other folders in the main one or anything. I think there should be a shared_prefs folder out there...
Check the files first for any sensitive password info!
- Will.
Mine started doing this after my last reset, so I upped it back to 1.0.1 and it still continued. I figured I did it with the root, but then I asked the guy at the store if he had heard of it. He said that they have had a few complaints about it, and that only a few of the devices with the issue had been rooted. So, it seems it has something to do with the original firmware.
He seems to think that if you setup Social, then reset and deregister, the setting isn't getting cleared (the guy is pretty savvy at our store). He has been keeping an unofficial tally, and said that he will ask others that have the problem if they did the same thing.
I agree, that sounds like the sequence of events that led to it happening for me.
I exchanged my unit about 2 weeks ago, rerooted to 1.0.1 and it still works as of today (knock on wood).
One thing I do remember before the problem, is the fact that I had task manager setup to kill the social app. Maybe this corrupted something inside the file system and led to the problem.

I've tried about a dozen times, but I get a "Server Unavailable" error message each time. So, either the official update in not available everywhere yet, or everyone else is hogging the server bandwidth. I started trying about 1 p.m. CDT when I first saw this thread.
I have a stock Vivid.
I'll keep trying.

There's an issue with the update. It was failing halfway through for me, so I called AT&T. Of course, the person I spoke to is a bumbling idiot, so they directed me towards HTC. HTC confirmed the issue to me and said they are working on a fix as well as there being no timetable for the fix. Is anyone else having an issue updating OTA? Mine is downloading fine and my phone turns of and goes to a screen with progress bar. About a quarter of a way through the progress, I get an error icon.

I did noticed the under Base Band the radio did change, so I wonder if this is the root cause.
Is anyone else that has the MicroCell having this issue?

I suspect it was failing halfway through for you because you either froze or deleted some of the bloatware that came with the phone. The installer checks for those, and if it doesn't find them, the update will abort.
My phone was completely stock and unrooted and the update was installed and running in less than 10 minutes.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the update, though, as long as you haven't monkeyed around with your phone.
Not the greatest screen shots... will try to upload better shots if anyone is intrested.

When you click on a bookmark after waking up the phone or randomly does it load the last page you were on instead of the bookmark you click?
Wondering because im using PG's RUU and it has this issue with the browser.
One of the users hopefully before doing the update will copy the ota off device to computer and upload somewhere for the cooks to start with higher build 3.26.502.56710RD

That's been my experience, but I stopped using the HTC browser. Download Chrome Beta, then go into app associations in the setting menu and make it the default app for URLs/links.
The issue doesn't happen with Chrome...and Chrome is a much better browser anyway IMO.

[Q] Google Play Error 403 after factory reset [MOVE REQUESTED]

Edit: To mod: If possible, please move this thread to a non device specific subforum, as people with different devices are experiencing the same problem.
So today I decided to factory reset my HTC One, and install back some applications I had previously.
However, after the factory reset I am unable to either install or update any application, with the Google Play Store returning: ""{app}" could not be downloaded due to an error. (403)".
I've been looking around a bit and have seen quite some others with this issue, however no solutions have worked for me. What I've tried:
Logged into Hangouts and confirmed mobile number.
Removed Google account in settings --> Go to Apps>All> and force stop Google Play Store, Google Service Framework and Download Manager, then clear cache and data for each --> Added back Google account --> Restarted device (without launching Google Play Store).
Using a new gmail account.
Clearing Proxy: I've looked in my Wi-Fi and APN Settings, both of which have no proxy set to begin wit.
Using 3G instead of Wi-Fi.
Another factory reset (repeated other steps afterwards).
Installing apps onto my device from my PC (it won't attempt to install them on the phone).
Please note my phone is not rooted and I'm not planning on rooting my phone any time soon.
Thanks in advance,
Errors4l.

Yeah I've encountered quite some threads of people having this problem with the HTC One, however their solutions have not worked for me. Hoping someone can bring an answer to this thread
Yea it just seems unusual that it has happened to us pretty much at the same time under the same circumstances, maybe there is some issue with the store rather than our devices, I hope so!
Having exactly the same problem, tried everything. Even got a new handset because of the original issue which caused me to perform the factory reset. Maybe a problem with Google Play?
Hey guys!
I did a factory reset on my LG Swift L9 today
and also can't download any app from Google Play
due to 403. It may not be related to HTC One only.

I've got a new Nexus 5 delivered to me hours ago, first time using it and i can confirm the same sadly, hopefully it will be resolved soon !
What would be the quickest way to alert a mod so that the thread can be moved to a non device specific forum?
Hi all,
Picked up a Nexus 7 today - it was initially loaded with an old build of Android (Blue connectivity bars not white etc) and everything seemed to be working fine. Notification popped up for me to install the latest version, so I stopped what I was doing, got it installed and I'm now stuck with the same 403 errors as everyone else.
Looks to me like a Play Store issue but damn infuriating seeing as I can't even put any basic apps on my shiny new Nexus.
Noticed on another forum earlier that someone was having the same issue, and a guy responded saying he'd returned his Galaxy Tab to the store it came from today (Curry's, I think?) and after the staff there contacted Samsung - they were told that it was an issue with the Play Store. No obvious citations of course, but seems pretty legit what with everything else going on.
And now we wait...

I tried resetting/clearing everything thinking it was my phone cos I just recently rooted and flashed this brand spanking new HTC One (it was a replacement for my broken HTC One that had a working store :crying, until I went ahead and Googled this annoying error.
Seems like it's a problem on the Google end! =/
Get same error, tried RUU reset and ViperOne ROM.
Still 403 error! Very annoying
Spent 2 hours or so messing installing cyanogen on my new nexus and thought I'd ****ed up. Then googled it. I can believe it, talk about bad timing. lol
Looks like we are not alone...

[Q] YouTube - "Connection to Server Lost"

So I know this has been an issue for others in the past, but everything I've tried hasn't seemed to work. Every time I load up a video on Youtube, it seems like it's about to start but then says "Connection to Server Lost. Tap to Try again". This only happens when I'm not on WiFi though. I've tried restarting the phone, uninstalling all updates, clearing app data and cache, and none of that seems to work. I also don't have an AdBlocker so I know that isn't the issue. Everything else works when I'm not on WiFi though.
Any solutions? I would greatly appreciate it.
I apologize for the bump but is no one else experiencing this issue? My friend also had it happen to him after updating to the most recent OTA. So far it hasn't seemed to be fixed.
Had it happen before update but haven't tested since update. Will check it out tomorrow when I'm out. Service where I live is terrible so can't really test now.

Edit.. just tested and YouTube is working fine. But that's after a data and system wipe from flashing new firmware and whatnot

Hmm, alright. I'll probably need to know if others that are on stock and running the latest firmware are running into the same issue. Because it seems likely that the update is the reason.
I'm stock rooted running the latest firmware and my YouTube seems to be working fine on both wifi and 3g. No issues so far and I've watched quite a few videos the last couple of days. I'll let you know if anything changes though.
Okay well I'm getting extremely annoyed here. The problem temporarily resolved itself for a few days but now it's back and now I can't even watch youtube videos on any Internet browser. It just says "sorry. This video cannot be played." it's clear this isn't an app issue, but what the heck is causing this? I should be able to watch a damn youtube video.

At this point, I'm assuming it has to do with the combination of Sprint's towers and the latest update (since that's when it began to happen). If you do factory reset your phone, please tell me if it begins to work for you.

I just did the full reset and still doesnt work. I think your right, it must be the update

Sadly no. It's so strange though, sometimes I can see the video as if it knows it should be loading the video, but then decides to give me an error one second before it actually starts. It's almost like it's being blocked.
Haven't been able to get mine to work with CDMA only, either.
I have tried everything and never managed to get a video to load, ever, while not on WiFi since I got my M8.

I honestly believe it is Sprint's doing, since I remember the videos being unwatchably bad quality back on my stock EVO 3D, if they would load at all, but after rooting it and removing the sprint proxy that suddenly cleared up, both the glitchy nature and quality. Probably use some kind of broken proxy to reduce bandwidth used by Youtube.

It has been happening with my phone as well. Works occasionally, but it's not just youtube, it's pandora, podcats, and even wshh. The problem has been going on since the update. I did speak with someone at Sprint and it was the usual "turn this off, turn that on, enter this." It worked but than went out again. Phone is brand new and 13 days old. Hope somebody can figure this out before i exchange it.

Well at the moment, it's working for me again. Whether or not it'll stay fixed remains to be determined...
