Froyo task manager keeps popping up - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wow. I had a huge thing typed and th damn task manager popped up and everything got deleted. Basically ive had 2 phones. I flashes then both with th same rom. This ones task manager keeps popping up sporadically. Its come up 7 times since starting this post. Im thinking i got a dud hardware. Can anyone verify this? I didnt have this problem with the other phone and ive flashed several roms on this one. All froyo roms do this. Also, when its locked it keeps flashing. Not the led, but the whole screen. Can anyone verify that its a dud phone? Thanks

Captivate Ghost

Well I'm not sure if it was from the multiple ROM flashes and what not, but my Captivate started acting like I hit the bottom back key as it would randomly go back in the browser or exit out of programs. The back key would blink like I pushed it and vibrate. So fortunately I was on the last day of my 30 day return period with Amazon, and they sent me a new replacement. Anyone have an idea of why it was acting up? Those bottom keys are touch so I wouldn't imaginr they could get stuck unless the sensor got messed up somehow.

well I can hopefully tell you what it is. you seem to have a similar problem to what I did. i even called samsung for an RMA then figured it out and canceled lol. mine ended up getting REALLY bad and it annoyed the holy hell out of me. I went to the fair the day before I noticed it and thought when I was riding a ride I jacked it up. Little did I remember I 1Clicked back to JI6 and updated Cog right before we left..
What I determined was when I used the 1 click Odin to go back to the JI6 (iirc) and it has something to do with the Kernel. I flashed up to JH7 OTA using the other Odin and it fixed the issue.
You can see what touchscreen driver you are running by using the SGS Tools, go to the secret codes, in there theres something about touchscreen firmware version. I think the version on 6 is like 0x15 and the one on 7 is 0x16. I dont remember the number perfect but that is what I figured out. For soem reason when I flashed with the 1 click, then up to a COG release it kept the touchscreen from JI6 and my phone DID NOT LIKE IT. Also if you hit Update- it will kill the keypad and you have to reboot for it to work again.
Give that a go and see if it fixes the issue. If you dont want to flash 2.1, bump to Cog2.2 Beta X and I bet that will fix the issue too.
Eitherway, check your touchscreen driver. The touch key part is what you are specifically looking for- the part at the bottom of firmware version info page.
If you dont have SGS Tools, open the phone dialer and punch in:
*#*#2663#*#*
Well I did in fact go from the one click to the cog, but then when I just cleared everything and flashed back to the one click again, it was still there. I just got my replacement today, so I guess I will just take the new one since its free lol. But thanks to you I now know what to do should it happen again, though after that I'm a bit apprehensive about flashing :/
Oh and on this new one I updated it straight out of the box so I could avoid the failed updates, and the version is 0x16 as you said.

Strange thing just happened no idea why.

Ive been running cm6 on my n1 for a month or so now and yesterday something very odd happened.
My phone was being sluggish and it was stuck on gprs in an area i always get full 3g. So i rebooted and i noticed maps decied to uninstall it self. So i go to the market and install it again and it tells me its already installed and its gonna overwrite the previous data. Then i noticed swype was gone so i go to reinstall it and again it tells me its already there and i install anyway. I try to type something with swype now reinstalled and the keyboard pops up but when i type something it just slides back down. So i reboot again and more apps are missing. So i go to the market and it fc's. then almost everything i try to do fc's on me. I tell my friend and he jokes you got a virus. So since im gonna reflash anyway i download the antivirus free app and it tells me everything is infected or whatever. So whatever i just reflash cm6 and install my apps and the only app antivirus flags is android wifi tether which i got from code.google. Anyway i reflash and just dont install wifi tether and all has been well.
Does anyone know wtf just happened? I know everyone says theres no suck thing as a virus on android and i know that the antivirus app is also questionable but i have no idea what just happened. I havent installed or done anything different than i usually do. I would really like a logical explanation of what happened.
Your apps were just taking a while to load. I've seen it happen before. I've opened my app drawer, and watched my apps slowly appear, one by one, at 5 to 10 second intervals...
Might be time to wipe?

Randomly Shutting down

I read a lot about these phones shutting down on their own. I have had 2 versions of the 2.2 Froyo software on it. One was the leaked 2.2 and the other is the Cognition Rom, and then there was just the stock rom.
it seems that the phone when just sitting around shuts down on its own, but here is the funny thing, when it sits all night charging, its fine, it's only when its left alone unplugged and no new messages or calls come in.
I really dont want to put it back to stock and have to send it in, is there a easy fix, or idea of what could be doing this
Right now, I am in Kalamazoo Mi, where it does not seem to let me get 3G service, just Edge 2g, but i think this also happens when in Detroit with 3G service.
Ideas?
Thanks
Eaton
Have you read any of the existing threads about the shutdown issue? If not, read them then post in one of those existing threads instead of starting a new one.

I did, but none of the post really show a resolution.
That would be because there IS no resolution.
Your options are:
Captivate Keep Alive (search in market)
Return your phone
Live with it.
My only problem with returning phone for replacement is more than half of the replacements are still having the same issue.
Other than that, what kegobeer said. If we keep the threads to a minimum it makes it easier to keep up with.
stops sleep shut downs
I had the same problem after flashing to froyo 2.2, i downloaded 2 programs to fix this advanced task manager and the other one captivate keep alive, just put captivate keep alive in the ignore list for task manager, worked for me!

Note seems to restart/reboot every day? Do i send it back

I keep getting random restarts and im not rooted or anything. Is this a hardware issue or will this ics update fix it? Cus i sure find it annoying. It does it like once a day or so.
Cheers

I also have the problem
And until now I also don't have an accurate answer for this
But my friend told me that, sometime it's about the RAM and the GingerBread itself
Mine always restart when it come to running some APPS, even if it just open a new message
And when mine is idle it never restart
How about yours?

Yeh my problem has been going on for about 3 weeks now, afew days after i got my note. it just seems to restart when iam of course on my phone checking out apps or on the internet. when im at home using my wifi it seems to happen, cant recall if ive had the restarts when im out and about, i will deffo keep an eye on that. i have now taken out my sdcard and see if that stops it.
But thats some bull****, i purchased this phone sims free so i still have the warranty so i shall send for a replacement if it keeps on happening. i do think its the damn hardwhere.
Another issue im having, well kinda is when i connect to wifi at home, it connects fine but soon as i turn it off, i get the message *Network error, please check your connection* Very weird so i dont know what thats about.
Sounds like an app trying to connect but cant.
Regardiing your restarts, it doesnt sound good. Usually factory reset clears lingering data, or an update may fix it. But if you never messed around, and eliminated possible apps. I'D say send it back

[Q] screen will not stay off.

Hi every one this is my first post and was wondering if anyone has had this problem come up.
My wife has the I9000 and a couple months ago it started to show this problem of everytime the phone is in standby the screen keeps coming on or about a second or to then goes off for about a second the then on and it will keep doing this till it runs the battery down.
I have tried to do a complete ROM install fresh and factory resets and custom roms and the phone still keeps doing it. is there anything i can do or is the phone beyond fixing unless i take it apart??
Thanks
Andy
Hi,
This sometimes happens to me also. Reflashing does not seem to help.
The one thing that seemed to do any difference was to turn off the device, remove battery, sim card and SD card. Then plug them all back in and start the phone.
This sometimes worked or at least minimized the number of problems, but not a permanent solution.
Although your problem could be something completelly diferent.
No arm in trying this suggestion
Hi thanks for the reply.
I havd tried that. Atp the moment it has no sc card or sim card as she got a galaxy mini to use for moment and it still dose the same thing.
It is quite anoying as ya have to have it plugged into charge all time as batt drains really quickly.

One possibility is a hardware problem. Maybe one of your phone's buttons (home, power, or volume) is grounded and keep on contacting.
Another possibility is a program that is running automatically. If you're on ICS or JB, you can check your running apps in Settings/Apps/Running and see if there is a running app that can be stopped without affecting the system...
Just a suggestion.
is there a known solution for the "screen-turning-on-problem"?
friend of me has the same problem with non-rooted galaxy s+
The phone is on stock gb fresh install.
Might have to try and open it and see if anything wrong.
