Ok so I don't know how HTC can allow this type of thing to happen but the Kaiser is by far the worst phone I've used in terms of bugs.
The camera... oh the camera...
My secondary VGA camera takes a 5x clearer photo than the 3MP one.
The VGA camera has no lag or reduced fps in the viewer, yet the 3MP camera has horrible horrible lag when you press button and what seems like 3-5 fps.
This is all the same with the video...
Can somebody tell me what the ****?? Are you all having this problem also or is it just me?
Could it be my radio?
I'm using ROMeOS 4.21
Thanks... and HTC... eff you!
edit: forgot to mention I've tried editing the registry and changing the button to half press instead of full... nothing works.
I'm sorry, but this sort of thing has been discussed before.

And try searching for the Subject "Camera" in this Fourm. You'll find a few posts.
I am not going to spend another minute trolling on this issue.

Thanks Dave but I've really tried everything suggested in those thread already.
From changing the registry in HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Captparam
to installing HTC Album and Camera (with no improvements).
Also I don't see how the first link you posted is relevant at all.
This is why I come to think it is either a screw up in my registry or my radio?
I think the camera in general is bad, I though the first link was a different thread, sorry.
If you search for Threads with the title camera in Kaiser General you will see the scale of how many people have complained about this camera. I am not happy with mine, but I also own a EOS400D, so it's not too bad

lol I see fair enough... For me I was planning to use my phone camera as my primary camera.. I really just cannot believe the VGA camera can operate at a higher quality than the 3MP..
I honestly think there is a fault in my registry..
I'll say it again.. sometimes the camera works perfect and takes a picture instantly with no FPS lag in the viewer, but most of the time it will be extremely low FPS and after I press the shutter button it will lag for 3 seconds then capture a fuzzy ****ty image.

Do a Hard Reset and / or try another ROM, if you really think there is something in the registry corrupt / wrong.

You have got to be kidding.... It's convenient to have a decent camera built into the phone. But your primary camera? Ugh.

Have you noticed that the camera takes faster pics in lit areas and slower the darker it gets? This topic is fairly redundant. Click my Vegas link and you can see what the camera does.
Ok, so you're getting a fuzzy image, that will be due to movement when pressing the button.
To improve this slightly use the 3 second timer, that way you can line it up, press the button and hold the camera steady to get a more stable picture.
No, its not a fix for the poor hardware, but it helps a little.
Try removing the transparent cover from the rear casing - or just take pics without the rear casing. Pic quality improves no end....

This has been discussed many times before...The camera is only usable in daylight. Even artificial light makes it really slow (bulbs) Here's why whenever you use the camera in other conditions than the daylight it switches itself into "Night Mode" and because of the lack of optimized 2D drivers the nightmode is terribly slow. Now... there's a small workaround....turn on the camera...if it's slow...press the button on the side the one that switches the screen off..press it again after about 10 seconds and you should have satisfying amount of frames in the camera app. Basically this trick forces the camera to turn off the night mode at least for a while. The only drawback is the quality of the pictures...they are darker. So if you disable the night mode through the registry you will have the camera without any lags.
Good luck
You think the Kaiser is the worst phone ever because it takes bad pictures. Wow. I think it is the best phone ever with an ok camera. I didn't buy the phone because of the camera.

Not only the camera mate, and it's my personal opinion.
The phone itself is very buggy, crashes, not very responsive..
I thank got I found this forum or else my phone would be in the trash by now..
PS. Was your post even needed?
oh, oh, oh.
Please, deXtrous, a little humility. You joined last month and go around shouting at people already?
Perhaps your phone bugging out and crashing is a result of multiple registry edits, application installs, radio/spl/rom incompatibility etc. Not necessarily of putrid quality of the phone itself. Look around this forum: there are many MANY people who are either happy with their Kaisers, or have only minor gripes. This should mean that the phone is not inherently bad, just that - maybe- it is less than perfect... but then, what IS perfect?
Ever since I switched to ROMeOS (easily half a year) I haven't had a single hang-up or bug-out. Granted, I tend to use a tried-and-tested set of applications, but hey, there are about 40-50 of them! And my Kaiser still works nice and fast..... sans the camera which still sucks... but hey, it's just an effing camera. Useful in a phone but FAR from key.

You're asking a guy who's defending a kaiser, in a kaiser forum, after you rubbish the kaiser, if he needed to post. I think you should chill for a bit..

Ha... Sorry I find this kind of funny..
It's just a phone guys, no need to take offense to anything I say about a silly phone..
It's my personal experiences with the phone. Not everyone can be happy with the product they buy but why should the unhappy ones be shunned off by their counterparts for simply voicing their opinions?
Everyone has an opinion and view on things, no need to be offended of my opinion that the kaiser is a piece of crap with **** battery life, **** camera, flimsy buttons and crap hardware (IME).
anyway,
The camera was like this even prior to any ROM swapping or registry editing, which is why I thought a new ROM might help but apparently not.
Maybe you have a bad phone, I know I don't think mine is buggy and non reponsive. Also nothing I have on mine seems to be flimsy..
Bad phone maybe?
So which version of Camera is best and includes the ability Auto Focus, i know there is Low FPS problems and thats a hardware thing, but i just want to know the best version of camera available, Thanks
I will respond since no one else seems interested...
Ironically, I am using the default camera app right now (4.x I believe). I tried Nadavi's 5.0.4 for several months, and it seemed faster than 4.x, but I eventually realized that auto-focus was really crippled in that version as well (half-press of the button to focus, but full press causes a re-focus before the picture is taken, which always causes me to lose the shot).
Long story short, 4.x doesn't seem to have the problem, so I decided to stick with it for now. Plus it takes pictures at a decent speed when the lighting is adequate.
Short answer... you cannot expect a Hyundai to win a Nascar race. Sure it will drive around the track, and if you want to do 500 laps with it, no problem, but it ain't ever gonna be the right tool you need to win.
The camera on this phone sucks, it has serious limitations. If you want to take a picture of a significant event, bring a stand alone camera.
I agree with the previous poster, the default camera software is about as good as you can do.
I am with you about the half press and full press problem , but i get over it by making the option of taking the photo is press half press only and it work so well.. its auto focus then take a pic with no blur at all.. i am using this ver attached. so well in TYTN II .
also now i can take photos using the front camera with it .

I quite agree, but I need to mention that the camera on EVERY phone sucks. If you're buying a phone because of the camera, that's waste of money. You can't expect this tiny bit of lens (more than ten times smaller than the ones used in real cameras and of dubious quality) to produce anything but lousy images. The problem is not with the software, but with the CCD and the lens.
I have this phone for about 6 months and I haven't taken a single picture with it - I prefer my Pentax

Hi all,
I've had my T for a week now after upgrading from an iPhone4. Originally I was eyeing up the 5 and the S3 then I spotted this little underdog that I hadn't even heard anything about. After scouting around for reviews it grew on me and after seeing it in the flesh I was sold and managed to get the last one in the Vodafone store.
I've never had an Android phone before, so I was a bit wary, but so far it is pretty much everything I expected it to be and I am really happy with it...
But I have spotted a few niggles and I'm wondering if other users have had noticed similar issues?
1) Auto brightness seems to jump around randomly at time and makes the phone look like either a. it's struggling to cope with what it's handling or b. it hasn't been implemented right and for some reason jumps between levels instead of smoothly raising or lowering the brightness. This doesn't happen all the time, mostly on the net, but I've also seen it while navigating the OS.
2) The camera is really slow to take any decent images. Quick launch boots to the camera pretty quickly but then it sits there trying to focus for the next few seconds and makes the quick launch seems pointless as it hangs fo so long after it has launched. Also any movement seems to blur the images pretty easily. Took pics of my 3 year old and my wife while we were bowling and even their arms moving as they walked back blurred!? The rest of the pic was great but it's not like they were running past the camera or anything.
3) When using Chrome does anyone else have it duplicate the last letter of every word you type? Alll off myy wordss weree lookingg likee thiss wheneverr II typedd anythingg. This wasn't happening anywhere else on the phone and after downloading FireFox I've got a decent browser, but I'm intrigued as to whether or not it was something I was doing?
4) Whenever I copy a video across I am only able to play 2-3 minutes of it even though it says that the file size is correct. All of my videos are .avi and whenever I try to copy them the phone my PC asks if I want to convert the files so that they are compatible with the phone. When I click yes my PC takes 45 min's-1hr to convert it and the file appears on my phone as a few hundred Mb but next to it the time dislpays 2-3 minutes duration. When you play it it cuts out at the 3 minute point. Is anyone else suffering this?
5) The storage capacity of the handset is only showing up as 10.8 Gb of which 1.08 is reserved space. Aren't these handsets meant to have 16Gb? Those figures are shown through the PC Companion and the settings tab on the phone.
So is anyone else experiencing the same niggles as above?
I still love the phone and I'm more than happy keeping it. I know some of the issues are down to my education but others definitely aren't and they'll end just being qwerks of the phone. If there's any way to resolve them then I'd be greatful to hear your solutions.
Cheers,
Stu.

That's 10.8GB for the data/storage partition. They left 2GB for app storage only. 13GB total after formatting + OS seems about right.
I have the duplicate letter/word, think it's a chrome thing.

I thought id ask this here..
Does anyone notice when playing back recorded videos on the device, there is a weird knocking / grinding sound while the lens is focusing?
I will upload a few videos, you can actually hear the device focusing, might be normal, but, it was never like this with my arc....its apparent on multiple set scenses, with both the UK Generic and UK O2 firmware.
I've not tested video recording yet, but the camera module is very close to the left microphone (the phone records in stereo). I am guessing you can hear camera noise on the left channel when playing back?

#1 try an app called Lux.
#4, try using MxPlayer, not the stock player... Also you don't have to convert the files.
#1, my Galaxy Note was the same until an update. Remember this is a brand new device and the software will get better with time. Apple don't get it right either but that may have been because you were holding it wrong

I'm using MX player and haven't had any problems regardless of what I throw at it (so far).
#5, a trick manufacturers use is to quote storage as 1000 bytes = 1kB, 1000kB = 1MB when the system reports actual memory based on 1024 bytes = 1kB, 1024kB = 1MB, etc so you get less reported than in the marketing specs.
Thanks for your input guys.
So far:
1) Autobrightness turned off and everything is good.
2) Still not too impressed with the camera. It takes too long to focus and do anything useful.
3) FireFox is still working perfectly compared to Chrome.
4) After deleting all the videos and copying them in from scratch, unconverted, they play perfectly with MX Player.
5) The memory thing makes sense but its a poor sales tactuc on the manufacturers part. In reality the customer is only concerned with how much useable memory a device has where in reality the Xperia T has a third less than you would expect. 1-2gb wouldnt be as bad but thus is over 5gb difference!!
Thanks again guys.
Noticed the camera lag seem slow when taking the pictures but whenever I look back on them they don't seem blurred.
So far I reckon Ive deleted between a third to half of my photos due to blurring.

Might sound a silly question, but how are you taking the pictures?
I ask because I started off using the camera with the screen off and just pressing the camera button (utilising the quick shot feature). In this scenario I had blurry photos and rubbish results half the time.
I changed the camera button behaviour to just launch the camera app and then press it again (or use the on-screen button) and my photos have been good pretty much all the time.
Hold either camera button to focus.. I rarely get any blurry photos
Sent from my Xperia T
Quickshot seems borderline useless for image quality. But on standard photos after I wait for it to focus, even the slightest movement seem to really blur the image. On other photos it can take that long to focus that you miss your shot.
I've tried taking the ISO settings off auto today to see if that helps.
So far it's the only thing that I feel lets the phone down compared to what you would expect it to be like when you read the spec.

The only other thing I can suggest is there might be a fault with your phone. Do you know anyone else with a T? Do you have the same problem if you take pictures with their phone?!

I'm going to go and have a play with another one in the shop over the next few weeks when I find time just in case it is my phone but some how I just think it's the way it is.
So far it's my only remaining issue but it's not a deal breaker I still love the phone and look forward to JB next year.
Would really appreciate any tips that anyone has utilised to improve the camera settings (as its the one thing bugging me on an otherwise brilliant phone).
I was trying to add something to an Instagram story earlier via the camera on Instagram and everytime I took the picture, the actual shot would move slightly each time and cause the picture to blur (despite repeated attempts and me holding the camera dead still). It was like the camera was being nudged each time I pressed to take a picture. I used the stock camera (default settings) at the weekend and found the experience to be quite mediocre. A few came out quite well but generally they seemed to be a bit blurry or appear as though my dog was moving (when he was actually just sitting still).
I have a few Youtube vids saved to watch from. Another thread that have tips on how to get the best out of Photo Pro so will check those out later when I have time. I'm not a camera expert and Photo Pro seemed a bit overwhelming with all the options but happy to give it a go.
From what I have seen and read it seems the phone is exceptional in the pro app with lots of adjustment if required however the auto mode is a just ok.
It's a shame as clearly the potential is there and many people still want a great camera they can open up and shoot a decent picture without all the messing about.
Just don't know why they haven't improved this. There are lots of fans who like other aspects of a Sony phone but just don't want the messing about with the camera. It's a 'nice to have option' but I also want decent reliable results straight off the bat.
I know I could turn off the HDR settings. However, I normally like it. The Note 20 I had was fine, but the colors on the S21 are sooo amplified that everything looks like it was taken with a bad filter. Nearly every photo is complete crap. Video is fine, just the pics are an issue. I usually don't have the scene optimizer on. Anyone know of other fixes? I saw that the May update includes something for the camera, but I have no idea what. Does anyone know if it addresses this issue? Thanks!

Major issue I have is with skin tones. Before I take the pic, it looks detailed and after it processes it, it turns into a beauty filter mode, smoothing everything and killing details. I figured mine was HK variant so it's doing what people like there, but on my wife's Note 20U (again, HK variant) it doesn't have that drastic issue.
I got the May update, and it hasn't resolved it. Anything even slightly moving will crush all details in indoor light.
I always use Gcam...and it's by far the best alternative to anything apart from Pixel phones, for stills. Video is always stock.

Yes, there are no filters on.
These always interest me. It's like we all have different phones....or maybe it's preferences.
I have none of these 'issues'. The skin tones are something I've really appreciated per past Samsung processing. Very natural finally. Mine has seemed good out of the box

Never ran into the "issue" you're talking about. Nearly every photo I take on this phone is a keeper.
If you're seriously saying the 'nearly every photo is complete crap', then I guess your preference for photos is something very different from the average joe.
If I were you, I would first check with other people around me who have the same phone and compare cameras to confirm that my phone didn't have an issue.
If only your phone takes crappy pics and theirs are fine, contact Samsung for a warranty replacement/repair.
However, if you think even their S21U photos are crap, then you can either shoot in pro mode and do post-processing to tune images to your liking or just change to some other phone. I don't think the camera on this phone will improve very much with future software updates, if the current level is "crap" in your opinion.
Personally, I have nothing that needs "fixing". It's a great camera in my opinion.
Just to be clear, I'm not bashing on you - you gave your opinion and I gave mine. We don't have to agree. But I'm genuinely trying to help.
I would honestly consider trying out the comparison test with a few mates to figure out if something's wrong with your device.
