I thinki speak for us all when I say; What?
Nothing you just said made any sense.

Please don't drink and type.

Yes, no, or maybe.

Maybe???
I think the OP wants to know if they can run apps from the Galaxy Tab on Nookie Froyo. (or not)
p.s. just noticed this is my first post. I just recently became active on here when i got my Epic and now Nook. This site is great, keep up the good work.

+1 I think that is what he wanted to know.... The Tab's launcher and email apps fail on the nook's stock firmware--we think-- because they require froyo. I'm GUESSING someone will get it going, but can't speak first-hand...

yes,i have been using slide it and I'm still getting used to it,haha. but anyways, thanks for all your help I guess well just have to wait and see

EDIT: Sorry, this is not the root that requires a kernel swap. this one is just a pain in the a*#!
Give it a day or two, if the OCLF or Z4 don't show back up you could always try THIS
However, be advised - it does require a kernel swap.

Best ROM for a casual user

I have a Captivate for my wife for Christmas. She is not electronically deficient, but is not the type that is going to want to keep tweaking and changing ROMs. I do stuff like this all the time, for myself and for her, but just do not have the time to learn it all on this particular platform. I am hoping just to get a push in the right direction, not necessarily newb handholding.
So, are there any good recommendations for a "one-time good-enough tons-better-than-stock" ROM that I can get on this phone and have her be happy with it? Thanks!
Tough one
Cognition had some stable 2.1 roms that are nice.
also has 2.2 roms
Axura is great 2.2 but you will have to use google voice for voice mail notifications to work.
For casual user, avoid roms with over click kernels, just my opinion
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I would have to say Cognition it's pretty rock solid.
I'd wait till' they officialy release froyo for cappy and people start making roms with it. At least it's what I'm gonna do since most 2.2 roms have problems.

I would disagree that most 2.2 roms have problems. Some do require more knowledge of what you are doing though

Thanks. Cognition looked like the best option. I looked through that and Perception, and it seemed like they were both good...but there seems like there is always some underlying little issue. Stuff like having to work around getting voicemail, or a wired headset not working like it should.
I think I will just run with the latest Cognition, and if she finds something squirrely it can go back to stock until 2.2 is released. Any recommendations for working with Cognition?
Read up on the lag fix. I believe it uses voodoo. To disable create a folder in the voodoo folder on the sd named disable-lagfix reboot
If you look to apply themes make sure you disable first. To enable delete folder, reboot

So the lagfix does not agree with themes? Is there any other disagreements VooDoo has?

Voodoo changes the filing system on the phone from rfs.to ext 4. The utility you use to flash themes, clockwork recovery does not always play nice with ext 4. It is safest to disable the lagfix to apply changes like themes then once applied turn it back on

Well this guy is really good at making a rom. im downloading his 1.3 version (should be equal too, if not better), but the 1.2, FREAKING AWESOME! Its my go to rom when i have issues with other roms. Definitely easy to use. only problem was one app was funky, but its the apps fault, others complained about it (on the games website). has the muli touch keyboard and has some great lagfix options. can even overclock IF you really need too. Well hope this helped, if not, best of luck and Merry Christmas!
Bumping up my own ancient thread. My wife has been happily running her Captivate with Cognition for over a year and a half now. It is starting to get a bit long-in-the-tooth and glitchy. With all of the changes over this time, I certainly would like to update it. For daily, average use it looks like CM9 is a safe bet. Are there any JB roms that are worth it and stable? Is there much to be gained from JB over ICS?
Also, I have never had to restore before. I have done some searching and some googling, but nothing seems too clear to me. What all do I need to do to save everything (contacts, calls, messages, applications, app data, pictures, etc.) so that it can be seamlessly transitioned to a new ROM?

I figure I will try one more post in hopes of some help, otherwise I will gladly take the hint and really dig deep into it.
In my opinion CM10 is a great improvement! The current installs all seem to factory reset, so you loose all your apps.
If you stick with CM9 you can flash right over top of what's there. Of course wiping the dalvik and flashing gapps too.

So I can flash from Android 2.2 to 4.0 without impacting any of the data on the phone? That seems almost too good to be true!

Tapatalk apps on Nookie Froyo

I'm trying out Nookie Froyo now. A lot of apps seem to run very well, but Tapatalk apps such as XDA and Howard Forums are very crashy. On stock rooted, both apps forget my password but are otherwise functional. On Nookie Froyo, I can get as far as viewing my list of threads, but it force closes every time I try to open one of those threads. Any thoughts?
That is strange. I also had the issue with the Stock Root being unable to save the password for tapatalk, but since I've gone to the HC and the Froyo builds, I have not had that issue.
Nor have I had the issue of crashing on opening of threads.
I have had a couple of randamn crashes while using the program, that has been less than 1% of my interactions with the program and I have joined over a dozen forums that support the program.
Have you tried a fresh install?

Same issue for me as well with the XDA app. Switched to the regular Tapatalk app instead and have no issues.

The normal tapatalk paid app works fine for me on froyo and cm7.
You can try fixing permission in cwm to see if that helps.

Hmm okay, I don't have the paid Tapatalk app so I haven't tried that. These are just the branded Tapatalk-based apps.
I did a permission-fixing run, didn't seem to help.
Okay I took the plunge and bought the paid Tapatalk app. It does work much better on Nookie Froyo than the branded XDA or HoFo apps and it hasn't forgotten any of my info so far. I think the branded apps must be an earlier software build or something like that.

One concern I have is how many forums work with tapatalk. I just don't want to pay for an app that I will use on one or two sites. Especially when they have a free option. How much better is the paid app?

Well I'm using it on 3 sites already - XDA, HowardForums, CyanogenMod - and on two devices (Nook, Nexus One). So already it's getting well-used. Also my N1 is suffering from limited internal memory, and dumping two apps for one is always a bonus.
As for how much better it is - all I can say is that both the HoFo and XDA apps crash frequently and forget passwords on Nookie Froyo. The paid Tapatalk app appears to be completely stable on the above-mentioned forums. An additional perk I've noticed is that any forums I set as favourites on the paid app will sync to my User CP on the web forums. This was not apparently the case with the co-branded apps.
And finally, after an evening in which I bought a $3 pastry on an impulse, I decided I would not suffer unduly to purchase a $3 app.

Netflix on the market? for stock 2.2 no less

So I downloaded netflix from the market, and it says in the list of supported devices that the HTC Thunderbolt is one. Now it does install and accepts your username password, you can see your qeue and it attemps to play the vid, but fails with a DRM required message. any one else seeing this? if you search for it it will not appear, but if you select apps, all apps, free apps then scroll down its listed. click install and try to enjoy a mostly usable app.

it will never work on stock or rooted froyo for the thunderbolt (at least not without netflix directly supporting it). person that said it did on that forum is full of it. amount of effort to make it work would not be worth it. GB will be out soon and nearly everyone has it already on here. Anyone who wont root to get netflix obviously doesnt want it bad enough

Ok ok, im not a dev, but.... Look at the LG Revolution. It is running 2.2.1 and netflix runs perfectly out of the box. in my ignorance, I dont know why it would be any more dificult to modify it to work with other froyo devices. Im sure one of the software type bullys will pick me appart here.. By the way... XDA isn't a friendly place any more. boo to flamers... (will probably get flamed for that) HA

Netflix does NOT need GB to function, it appears as if it needs it for the TBolt but not overall. That being said they made Droid Bionic support available so take everything with a grain of salt. Maybe GB will be coming soon and rather than fix issues with the TBolt again soon they figured set it up for GB and users can use it then (and root users now ).

Samsung recently released a version of Tapatalk HD for the Galaxy Tabs.
Catch is it is not available in the US or for wifi only devices. If you have a 3G 8.9 and not in the US. Check it out

Or just go here to download directly.
great .... I'm going to try ......
not a lot of HD/tablet optimisation to speak of.
looks like the original app most of the time.
they could have done a far better job of it imho.
are there any forum app alternatives for tablets that actually make use of the screen space?

1) Shouldn't this thread be posted under Galaxy Tab 8.9 Themes and Apps?
2) Tapatalk HD is not compatible with ICS, but...
3) XDA Free is.
