Hey everyone. Did a quick search and didn't see this addressed.
Rooted using auto-nooter and everything was fine until a few days ago. When I tap the power button it no longer shuts the screen off. I can power it down by holding it though.
Not a huge issue cause I have a widget to turn off the screen, just a minor inconvenience.
Any ideas?

When I shut down my phone, the screen will go black and it will vibrate like normal. Last I checked the vibrate was to confirm that it was completely shut off. Instead, the four touch sensitive buttons will light up and stay lit until I turn the phone back on or, of course, pull the battery. This is also keeping me from entering download mode. A few days ago the phone was shutting down correctly and I have been able to enter download mode, but now the problem is going on again. I'm on official 2.2 Froyo updated through kies mini. My phone is rooted, but this problem occurred before I rooted.

Sounds like a warranty replacement.
I've had it for over a year. I wonder why it's just now doing this.

I think I have come to a conclusion on why it doesn't seem to shut down completely and would need someone with a captivate that has all fully functional buttons. I believe that since my power button sticks, when the phone vibrates to confirm a shutdown, the capacitive touch button lights will not shut off until the power button is released. So if someone wouldn't mind shutting their phone off while holding the power button and tell me if you can make the lights come on after the vibrate while holding power button? Thanks in advance.

Hello gents
My power button doesn't work when my device is on.
I know its not a physical problem because when I pull out the battery then put it back in and hold the power button, the device turns on.
It only doesn't work when the device is on.
Tried holding it down for a while but nothing.
My device is not rooted.
I am on 4.0.4
thanks
i had the similar problem first my power button stopped working sometimes, then my phone started to restart automatically sometimes , then frequently, then daily and finally i got a free replacement of motherboard
same here
phone restarts by itself too
And also my internal clock was not functioning properly

Hi
Just a moment ago, pressed the power button, lock screen flickered a few times, then screen went blank with backlight remaining on. Power button does nothing. I'd take the battery out if I could!!
Found reset button, all OK. First time I have ever had it die like that.
Anyone experienced similar?
Nigel
Had it happen once. You can also hold volume+ and power instead of pressing the reset button

Happened to me today for the first time. I hear it has something to do with optimize screen brightness begin unchecked. Supposedly fixed in the newest firmware.
Just started having problems with the display backlight not turning on when I push the power button. The phone is waking up. If there is a very bright light in the room I can see that the screen is working but there is no backlight. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes it lights up as I push the button then goes black as I let go of the button, then I can hear it relock after a few seconds. I tried taking it apart and cleaning the power button with some compressed air which seemed to help for a few days, but then got worse. :crying:
Update: so after performing the EB40 mod I have not had the problem come back in six days.
