Hi
I heard someone said 2.2.1 start rollout in europe right?

Had it in the UK for a while now. Not sure what's going on elsewhere in the old Roman empire bro.
hehehe, i don't understand why everytime Samsung release their official update,
it's always start in UK first...
anyway how is the 2.2.1 compare to 2.2? my 2.2 benchmark score is around 960 plus..
There is a whole thread on it (JPY) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881532
Smoothest running firmware on Galaxy S ever, I haven't even bothered to do any lagfix. At stock Quadrant score is about 1250 or so.

In this case partly because they had messed up and you couldn't fully input a UK address and secondly they had to make it switch between UK carriers without the need for roaming (Orange/T-Mobile) there may be other reasons as well.
So it may never be rolled out anywhere else
I see. But now i just successfully root and lag fix using oclf. Is it tin safest one? I heard voodoo is much better but high possibility of breaking the phone right?

Has anyone even seen proof of a real froyo firmware for the captivate? One would think that at least an about screen screenshot showing froyo would have leaked out. Makes me wonder if Samsung has even started working on Froyo for any of the Galaxy S variants.

I wonder the same thing. It seems were close to Gingerbread releasing. I've been thinking they may not waste the time/money on Froyo and be on the leading edge by having Gingerbread OTA'd

I dont see that happening but lets hope so.
There haven't been any leaked Captivate specific Froyos. My take on it is that Samsung currently is putting all their development into the I9000, and once they've reached stability, or in Samsung's case the point where they think it's "Good enough" they'll use that existing body of code and port it over for the other SGS variants.
All of the SGS variants (with the exception of the epic) are VERY similar hardware-wise, as you know first hand from running I9000 firmwares on your handset irtehun . Once they have a working framework of Froyo it would be relatively simple for them to make some kernel based modifications and carrier based "bloat" and kick it out the door for the other handsets.

We'll get our turn, just expect it to be after late October (Assuming they meet that deadline) when they deliver a final version to the I9000

Me too. I was running 2.2 on my Tilt for a LONG time, and got use to it, so it's an odd downgrade going to 2.1 for me, even though the Captivate screen is bigger the my entire Tilt phone.
*Edit* Whatever happened to Zilch25 for MOD? I see they haven't made him MOD yet!

Haha there was a 24 hour forums data rollback on Saturday night/Sunday morning so that thread went poof
I can't help but think of the epix my wife had when thinking about Samsung and updates. That phone was slated to get winmo 6.5. Last I checked maybe a month ago it still said coming soon Haha. She ended up having to get rid of that phone because it was so buggy, but I'll never forget the horrible service from Samsung. I got this phone hoping they'd changed with all their promises. We'll see...

Nobody.. Ask your mobile phone carrier (although, they will possibly be useless).
By the way, the monkeys in XDA couldn't even accurately predict the release of froyo for the largest markets, so not sure you could trust any responses here. Keep in mind, that developers often only release things when they are complete. Would you prefer that they release it prematurely?
JPA is for Asian country, maybe it's counted as available for our country?
I flashed mine to JPM few days ago with tayutama's edition
Hi all,
As with the topic above, anyone knows the real reason with the call back of the official JPM firmware( or JP6)?
Read up on some sources, some said that its causes unstability. However, so far it seems okay to me in terms of stability and usabilty. Running on Darky's Steel Edition Rom 3.0. Seems good.
Cheers.

Just take a quick look at the changelist from JJ1 (SC02) and JPK, JPM / JP6 and compare these. All of these builds are from the same tree!
And did you ever take a look @ your logs (being on "stock" JPM / JP6)?
Yes, the customized ROMS are really really good. But all of 'em still have some (mostly minor) issues. I think Sammy has got to fix all (or most) of them before
they finally want to release it.
Btw, do you remember the first 2.2 releases from HTC
The only question is: Which way does less overall damage?
I think the final release will be almost identical as JPM/JP6 but Samsung has to patch the Kies so that it won't brick SGS so easily.
My Froyo 2.2 is unstable!!!
I for one really can't wait for the next "official" fix
My cold boot up times are way slower than the JG5 firmware and the phone suffers from forced closes sometimes and lags like hell!
It's just so annoying knowing what the phone is capable of but not having the firmware to back it up.
I hope the official froyo 2.2 release fixes all the bugs!
Well mine run better then ever on the official jp6. Granted root and lagfix is still needed becouse of the lovely rfs...

The i9000 is a year old, (and still is the best android phone in most markets)
it came with android 2.1 , we got 2.2 , we will get 2.3 in , lets say about 1 month , wright when 2.4 will be released.
I think samsung will eventually release a 2.4 firmware maybe in june - july but then "ice cream" will be released
So what do you guys think , we will ever see "ice cream 3.x'' officially on the i9000 , or gingerbread will the the end of the line ?
Yes, i think we will, and if we dont, we will kick up a fuss and demand it from samsung lol
or we could just wait for someone to port it from another ROM, android hacking will never die !!!!
My guess is that 2.3, maybe with a patch or two, will be the last thing that Samsung does for the i9000. I don't think there is in their interest to support a phone older than 18 months, as they probably rely on statistics. And the statistics tells them that you and me probably have bought a new phone by then.
true i suppose.
If ice cream ever did come out for the SGS is probably wouldnt be for a while, and yea me and you probably would have a new phone, so we wouldnt be on the i9000 forums to find out if it was released.
but im happy with cyanogenMod, and as long as that always gets frequent updates, il stick to this til i get a new device

Very True
Like any device the manufactures have to drop support from it at some point! I think we will see Android 2.3.3, which from ports does run smooth on this phone and then afterwards just the normal updates we see floating around for 2.2.1 etc..
Then again there are loads of adverts for the Galaxy S still on the TV so I suppose in reality we will just have to wait and see.
I really cant see us going to 2.4. I suppose someone like Darky or DOC might come up with a 2.4 ROM for the SGS in the future but who knows! I think at this stage I will be happy when a ROM comes out with fully functional 2.3.
What about the Galaxy S II. Is that a better phone than the I9000?

How could they?they aren't developers(afaik) they both need a rom as a base if sammy doesn't release one they can't mod it.
Since there is a cyanogenmod projekt for the sgs now we will propably get updates for a while because it is based in many parts on nexus s source.
So if you make the jump to cm you will propably (if they make it to the mainline) see ice cream or whatever the next updates are called

At least it has the necessary hardware to run it!
I don't think samsung will give up on the phone that increased their market! I mean 10 million units is not exatly a couple of phones...
And at the end of the day they are nothing like LG Those sad faces are still wondering about 2.3 for their Optimus 2x

Android 2.3.x is the last for Gingerbread going to be released for the i9000.
However, due to the large numbers of i9000 devices within the market, and still being sold, Samsung have no option but to release an upgrade to Ice-Cream Sandwich (Android 4.x.x).
There will be no 2.4 for Android, it goes straight to 4 (Ice-Cream Sandwich).
Because Android cannot sustain development for both 2.x.x and 3.x.x concurrently, it makes sense to release the "co-op" version for both smartphones and tablets.
Rumour has it, this version will be released end of October, first for Samsung Nexus Prime.
So November seems to be a good enough guess for the rest to follow suite.
Note: if you don't like waiting for upgrades in your country, and your device is already a year old, just install/flash a stock ROM released for a different country (closest to yours...check GSMA for technology standards if you're really worried). Also, if there is a big difference in GSMA standards, you can still flash a ROM of your choice and then use your current Modem, e.g. flash JVR update on your phone, then flash the modem for previous working version for your country.
I am from India and it's bleak in a way. The android bug hasn't really caught on here. We are severely crippled. We did not get an official Nexus. We got the Galaxy S II, the prices of GT9000 have dropped. But still no one goes for it. People here are still caught up in the iphone bug. I think Samsung will pull the plug soon to make their other phones sell.

HTC phones blow for battery life and signal. (Take it from someone who has been down that road many times with different OS)
THE SGS2 is zippier with the processor and RAM, but goes through the battery faster.
Your best bet is really one of two options:
Keep the SGS and grab a Samsung Armani battery. Its 1650mah (same physical size as stock) which makes up for any custom fast kernal battery loss versus stock.
Or
Get a Motorola Atrix which has the power of the SGS2 minus the screen but at least has the battery.
Unless you can wait a little while longer and see the ICS phones coming this fall for even more options...

how do you I unroot and get gingerbread?
As my sig shows, I'm successfully flashed on the Rogers v20c and I just have to commend it. It is the first stock ROM that is speedy out the box. Idk what it is with this rom, but my internet speeds are seriously WAY better with this rom. I'm in NYC, so you would expect awesome speeds here is hspa + sadly though, through various phone I have gone through (HTC tilt, tilt2, iPhone 3, 3gs, 4, xperia x10, dell streak, captivate, infuse, HTC aria) these inlcude phones my wife had as well. But point is, the guest and best speed ibwould get was surprisingly from my trust xperia where I would get between 3-4 Mbps down, 1-1.5 up. With this rom, I'm getting 6-8Mbps down and 1.5-2 up. This is happening constantly. In the Bronx, Brooklyn and even overly crowded Manhattan, which is where I experienced my lowest in the low 4's. I'm just amazed. Now I'm really gonna get into lestats kitchen and optimize other things and see how it works out but this rom does not need much IMO. I've used it for 3 days now. Battery has been better I guess. I'm used to having to charge my phone every night. But I do notice under heavy usage it withstands the load. My phone Jan my mp3 player for my morning commute to work and home on public transportation and I use stereo Nokia Bluetooth headset.
Sorry for long post...enough said I think.?

You dont have to unroot anything.
v20c is the firmware update release by rogers canada. (its the Gingerbread update) the first GB update with a near by baseband.
Keep through the forum about flashing the v20c.kdz file.
from your tag your using rogers already? you might be able to OTA that update.
