Need for Speed - Shift . Problem on level 6 Chicago - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There must be a bug on this game. At Level 6 Chicago even though I get enough point for 1st place I end up being recorded as 4th place , thus I cannot go any further. No matter what I still get 4th place !?!!?!
I got NFS from the Samsung Apps . I tried to install NFS from the Market ( I had bought it for my N1 ) but I cannot download the game on my Tab, I guess because it's been distributed by the Samsung Apps.
Anyone with the same problem ?
P_

OMG Level 6! NFS: Shift - Android (DHD)
Hey,
Same prob on my DHD. Did you manage to find a solution?
Thanks.

I have the same problem! Did anybody find a solution?I don't know what to do... It's a drift race, I drift all over the place but nothing...

FPSEce Playstation Emulator: Speed on Kaiser?

Hello there!
I want to ask all of you Kaiser owners for your experiences with the emulator FPSEce on this device. (I did use the search but couldn't find anything helpful)
The reason is that I am planning on buying a HTC Phone with the latest 400 Mhz Qualcomm CPU.
Especially the speed of Final Fantasy 7 would be interessting for me, because I own this game.
On my recent PDA with 624 Mhz and under WM 2003SE FF7 is running perfectly, so I would be really thankful if you could tell me about the speed of PS1-games on the kaiser. (maybe it is possible in the near future to overclock the CPU to about 500 Mhz for more power with FPSEce)
Best regards,
DL
I don't think we'll be running any ps games on our kaisers until HTC releases those drivers to fully support 3d acceleration. Heck, we can barely play snes games..
I was unable to get any games working with this emulator. It may have been user-error, but I gave up. So im not sure how the performance would be if it works.
o yea this was the first thing i launched on my kaiser when i got it back in october. the framerate was poor, only about 19-22+ fps. i mean yea it ran, but we would need some 3d acceleration, but im not sure if thatl even be at an acceptable speed.
that was in a game i played, when i was in the bios (the playstation menu) i got like 45-55fps.
I also used FPSEce on a 625Mhz device (Axim X50v) and it was running close to the original speed. But I was disapointed to see that FPSEce runs well on Kaiser but too slooooooow. I Tried Gran Turismo, again it worked fine, but was pretty unusable because of the low speed. I tried many tweaks on FPSEce (I also tweaked my device as much as I can), but still too slow.
I am not confident in the fact that one day we'll have the onboard 3D accelerator working , but I think we may have chance one day to get an overclock utility for the Qualcomm processor. Then, if we can overclock the processor upto 500 Mhz, I guess FPSEce would be usable ...
The other thing is that the more I play with my Kaiser, the more I can see that the buttons are not well made for that. Around the D-Pad, the buttons are too small and most of the time I press multiple buttons at the same time (and I have small fingers !). Also the shape of the D-Pad is not very good from my point of view : the horizontal size of it too big compared the vertical size. So when you play fast action games, you need to move your finger from one side of the D-pad to the other side (on the horizontal side), you can't keep you'r finger on the D-pad. So you loose time when using the D-pad, I don't know if what I say is clear enough ...
But this time, that is maybe because my fingers are too small ! Maybe I am the only one to have this problem !
The D-pad of my HTC prophet is a lot better for gaming.
When I bought my Kaiser, I thought I could then sell my GameBoy Advanced, but now I know I will still have to keep it !
Thanks for your replies.
So you can say that it's no fun to play with 400 Mhz because it's too slow to play? Let's hope a programm for overclocking will be released soon.
The missing 3D drivers are not too crucial. CPU is the most important part for any emulation.
Again, be also carefull about the fact that the D-pad is not good for gaming ... I tried again tonight many emulators (Commodore 64, MorphGear and others ) and I could find some more problems with it :
I don't know why but I've find a little lag when pressing the pad. This is very annoying when playing fast action games. This lag only appears with some emulators (Commodore 64, Morphgear, Pocket Caprice) wich are unfortunatly my favorite ones ... For exemple, I didn't find any lag playing with the Spectrum emulator (Pocket Clive).
I also met another problem : in fast action games, when pressing the left side of the D-pad, if I press it too firmly, I can feel the screen moving a little bit, just like if I wanted to open the hardware keyboard. It's also very annoying.
Definitly, this device is certainly a good device for internet/phone/business using. But it is very far to be the best one for gaming. If you know you will be playing with the Kaiser, you have to know it is not made for that, and from my point of view, it is the worst Pocket PC I had to play games (I had a Casio EM505, Ipaq 1930, Dell Axim X50v, HTC Prophet ...).
What ever happen in the future, even if we can overclock the device, there will be no way to replace the existing D-pad and its (too small) buttons.
I just thought the D-pad needed some gettin used to, then it seemed fine to me. i experianced no problems with the screen moving or a lag. it really didnt seem that bad to me. im using the AT&T branded phone (with the htc rom of corse).
and yes, lest hope an overclocking utility will be released soon
Ok, so it is playable but not perfect. Thank you.
Regarding the button problem. If the hardware buttons are too close to the d-pad try using some onscreen buttons (you can customize them for each game). It's a really great feature.

I don't think using virtual buttons on the screen is a solution : you will have to take your kaiser on one hand, to use the d-pad with the same hand (wich may be a problem because the d-pad is too large) and use the stylus with the other hand. Absolutly not comfortable, and dangerous for the screen if in the action of the game you're going fast and press the screen too firmly.
Also, one other problem reported with this wonderfull Kaiser : many users reported that the Kaiser speed slows down when you press the screen. I can't confirm that because I never play with the screen, but you have to know this other issue.
When you say "playable but not perfect", I can feel you decided to buy it. Really, if you want to play with it, you have to know that it's "sometimes playable, but in a bad way".
Why sometimes ? Because 3D games like Call Of Duty 2 are too slow to be playable, some other applications are not playable (FPSEce for exemple, the Playstation emulator).
And when the speed is good enough to play, then the pad/buttons problems show up.
Again, in you position, I just would not buy it ! In my case, if I could go back in time, I would not make this mistake twice.

Well, I was actually aiming for the upcoming Polaris, which is Kaiser without Keyboard. Maybe the lack of many hardwarebuttons and the reportet bug with screen-pressing would be much worse there. But I can't find another PDA-Phone which looks so "complete" in its features and size. Anyway the only game I own is FF7, so other games don't really matter much to me. And it's no game where you have to press buttons fast. Moreover we can hope for an overclocking tool. More important for me would be GBA emulation, but I would asume 400 Mhz are more than enough to emulate GBA.
What phone would you get if you could go back? Wait for future models from HTC with CGA and more CPU?
@jaygriggs: Thanks for the infos on FF7
@mikeeey: Well there are 3 CDs but you don't have to always store all three on the card at the same time. Every CD is about 700 MB, but when you cut out the movies you get around 300 MB.

BTW, why don't you go for a cheapo Dell Axim x51v? It's the best machine for emulation because of the supported(!!!!!!) 2700G. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347096

Well the most important thing for me is to have MP3/PocketPC/gaming device/phone in one device.
In the past I had an mp3 player and a mobile phone, then i bought one phone which could play mp3 in stereo, too (the siemens sx1). This device had a symbian (s60) OS, so it was kind of a smartphone. But because of that I got really interested in PPCs and Windows Mobile. So I bought a cheap x30 @ ebay. But again, it's just too uncomfortable to have two devices, so it has to be a pda-phone and those new HTC phones have a small size and most must-have features (like GPS, WiFi, etc.). So I think I could live without 3d hardware, even if that would mean bad PS1 emulation.
BTW: I really like your blog. Great work and always interesting. It really must take much time to write all that. My praises.

It's not just 3D hardware support and not only PS1 emulation:
1. the 2700g is explicitly used in several other emus (SNES, GBA, FireBurn - to mention the three most important)
2. the x51v doesn't have any touchscreen CPU usage bug - this is a godsend with emulators with on-screen tap areas (on the long run, it's much more conventient than a hard-to-press button)

as i was sayign with trying to find the touchscreen driver from teh 6700, could this also be possible to find in the X51v?
does anyone know how to manually adjust frame skip? on the website it says there are many different levels but i cant figure out how to do it

Very strange find regarding touchscreen bug

Hey guys, I just found the weirdest thing.
You know HTCs piss poor touchscreen performance. (Ie using the touchscreen pegs the CPU at 100%).
From my experience so far this is true in all applications. Full screen,
windowed, Software, D3DM OpenGL, GAPI, GDI. In all areas this bug IS present.
But then I installed Astrawares Broken Sword today and while playing it I found that there's no trace whatsoever of the touchscreen bug in this game.
I'm not sure what APIs they use etc. but I figure it must have something to do with it.
Not really sure what to do with this info just thought I'd put it out there.
(BTW Broken Sword is a great game, if you haven't already you should try it right now! )
when it's running, have you tried seeing how other things operate?
hmm, i use the touchscreen to scroll in opera mini and it's as fast as could be.
we should look more into this, later i may install broken sword and see..
is it a game that you touch to make your character move or constantly hold down the stylus to play?

[Q] "reverse" accelerometer, or app problem?

Hello all!
I have been a proud user of Galaxy Note user for a bit over a week now, and I am trying to test (in real app-world) if all the sensors are working correctly to be able to bring change it at the store if something doesn't work, since I'm eager to root my device and I probably won't be able to return it then.
Yesterday I installed the game AirPenguin, which uses accelerometer controls, and it seems all messed up. Basically what happens is that as soon as the game starts, the bird goes flying way left, even though I am holding the phone still. What I found out after experimenting a bit was that the game itself is locked to portrait mode, but the accelerometer works as if it was in landscape. Meaning I have to hold it in landscape, and when I then tilt it left, the bird flies left in game-screen, but left is down from my point of view.
I was wondering if anyone else has seen such problem in this game or any other app, and if it is just a game bug or if there could be a problem with the accelerometer.
The stock accelerometer calibration works without a problem - when I tilt the phone left, the ball goes right, and when I tilt it right, it goes left (I suppose that's how it's supposed to be).
Thank you all in advance!
ME TOO
I'm facing the same problem on my Galaxy Note, I wonder if that happens also on other android devices or it's a galaxy note issue only?
i dont have the app, but is auto-rotate (that thing in the notification bar) turned off or on? try changing that to see if it fixes it?

Nexus and HTC Flyer, too any solutions?
Same problem with my Galaxy Tab 7+ P6200. I have encountered so many games in the google playstore with this problem. Too bad, i hope the app developers fix this problem for our devices.
afair there was a free app for comprehensive hardware testing, it was called Z-Device test, if stones interested, and google does not hello, I may try to find the link or apk later

Oculus trying so hard to break the GearVR Experience ? (Confirmed)

Honestly they are working so hard to break the GearVR Experience and i am not sure why , i know that facebook bought Oculus and we might slowly encounter shift of game in their favor , but then even Samsung is working so hard on busting SamsungVR as well which seams vague .
Is weird that they bravely killed the work around to heat and fast battery drain of applying "Power Saving" option which I am sure almost everybody was using and still nobody complained so far despite that i haven't seen any serious improvement in GearVR software that remedies the battery drain or the heat , i am now down to 10-20 minutes of decent play/watch time before the device is drained and heat like crazy versus 50-60 minutes previously and i am sure almost everybody is suffering from similar case so why isn't anybody complaining ?
As for SamsungVR now the device heats like crazy as you play videos and instead of the good old "Device is heating please wait for it to cool down" i now get "This Movie File Can't be played" 10 minutes into watching it instead knowing they surely want to cover up the heat issue by claiming its an encoding issue where these files played flawlessly on previous versions .
Reorientation , who doesn't use that ? laying down and enjoying the show ? we even begged for that to be implemented over all GearVR apps , is being deprecated from SamsungVR , the new method of reorientation will work only on 1 ax so to only work while facing forward (sitting) , head tilts will not be supported any more .
So what's with the iffy tackle ? why are they destroying what was already awesome ? is it for the sake of something else or they just lost control within the phase of development ?
I decided to start this thread so to all who have previous versions of the system files of oculus that worked flawlessly then broke down in their messing up process to share even if out of scope of my request , so :
Anybody happen to know of the working set of GearVR apps and service apps that are needed to downgrade to prior to the update that restricts the use of GearVR and Power Saving ?
Also Previous SamsungVR app Pre the introduction of sort by folders and 180 degree reorientation ?
-Edit- I was told by both support parties that this approach wont work
So latest updates on this issue , after emailing supports of both Oculus and Samsung VR trying to understand it turns out the following :
apparently Oculus and Samsung have some sort of a conflict of interests and are not working together as a team any more .
Oculus had roughly replied that their Oculus home app require so much processing power so they decided to force users to turn off power saving even if this would heat or drain the phone and let me quote them :
"Oculus home demand high processing power, if this is producing heat or battery drain please consult manufacturer "
MANUFACTURER ?? using that word alone kind of tells a lot , apparently new policies are being adopted where Samsung are not to be considered their sole distributor in mobile world and now they are working for their own interest and "manufacturer" has to comply . Further requests about the possibility to downgrade the software to earlier one were met by them telling that this move is unadvised and unsupported by them and may result that Oculus home and store might cease to work . (Tests needed)
Now Samsung VR on the other hand were clueless , the replies came compassionate , and let me quote :
"We would like to inform you that the orientation works in Samsung VR app for Gear VR, Where you need to double tap the back button on Gear VR ."
"Oh it doesn't ? Please send us photos and URL of the file you wanted to play ."
"It happens with all files ? Please allow us time to see to this ."
"Version 1.689 was out , hope it fixes your problem ."
"Oh it doesn't ."
"The reorientation feature is not working , This might be because of the Oculus had removed this feature from their latest update ." (The support personnel is Indian)
Oooh , Oculus had removed it , and you didn't even know , and that was all support we get . So we pay around 500$ for a phone and extra 100$ for a VR set and few more on store so to play hot potato with you two , fantastic .
So there you go , a fine project down hill , Next .
I have noticed recently I don't get as much play time before my phone overheats and either I'll get the 'needs to cool down' warning or the Gear VR will just crash & reboot.
Your example of only having 20 mins or so now sounds about right to me.
I assumed that the support position would be the same as with their TVs in that you would just get an offshore support person telling you to power it off & on again or do a factory reset so I was kind of resigned to the hope that further updates they push out would deal with it.

Lag/Poor Performance in Certain Games

I'm noticing some serious lag or poor performance in a couple games I have. I have never had any issues playing these same games on my old 2 XL, but they are unusable on my 4 XL. Both my 2 XL and 4 XL are "stock, unrooted" Verizon devices.
Originally I was forcing 90hz display and thought maybe that was not playing nice with the games, but I have since tried all possible combinations of smooth display and force 90hz on/off.
The game starts fine and seems to run great for the first 10-30 seconds (it's not the same each time, varies a bit). Then it will go in to extreme lag for anywhere from 5-20 seconds before "catching up" and working for a short period. And this cycle just continues. If I sort of pause motion in the game for a bit, it seems to get out of lag/performance issues and work better for a few seconds.
It acts almost as if cpu/graphics/memory or something can't keep up, but performance of this phone should easily best the 2 XL. Anyone else experienced anything similar to this?
I'm not sure if it's allowed to post the specific game here to let anyone try, but I'd be happy to let someone know if they want to test.
Thanks!
It could be an issue with the game itself or compatability with the pixel 4 or just your unit.
Have you contacted Google support via live chat? They can screen share with you and help solve the issue.
I'm also happy to install and test the game out so you can see if it is just your device or other P4's, just let me know the name of it. As far as I'm aware mentioning the name of a game you are using isn't breaching any rules. But if you want to be extra cautious, just PM me.

I reached out to the dev (couldn't reproduce issue but didn't have a Pixel 4), but have not tried Google support yet. The game is called "Space Pinball: Classic game".

I just installed the game, played smoothly for the most part, but occasionally lagged for a second or two. So probably some sort of compatability issue or optimization.
