My first 2 Nook Colors experienced ghosts touching the screen while doing nothing. My 3rd had a flake of dust(metal?) under the glass when I took it out of the box. 4th time is the charm? Just got home and I'm seriously not sure if I can handle a 5th time back to BN to replace this thing.
Anyone else with ghosts tapping on the screen?
Are you plugged in? The nook has a bit of a grounding issue and it causes ghost taps while plugged in.
It would do it either way. I don't really use it while plugged in though. Got it to store manuals for equipment I work on(lab coolers, freezers, incubators, hvac, etc)
So basically its used onsite or while I'm sitting in my work van.
One more thing... might be related. I had it usually in the case(not always) and the case I had was the Sullivan Easel. Which, like most, has the plastic clip in retainer thingy majjig.

I swear that plastic retainer part on the left side is what would pop up the bezel and then you could see light come through. And just maybe, maybe, that was also causing the ghost touches. I don't really know....
So I returned the case and just picked up a black silicone case and screen protector.

The guy at the B&N store said you can get ghosting if you crank the brightness up.
i was getting a ton of phantom taps when i first got my NC, to the point where it was almost unusable. I would wipe the screen of any moisture or prints and it would go away for about 5 minutes until fingerprints and moisture from my hands started to make the screen freak out again.
I put a screen protector on about a week ago, and it's like a whole new device. The screen still isn't very sensitive around the edges, buttons often dont work on the edge of the screen (especially at the top) but I haven't had a phantom tap yet. Seriously, try putting on a screen protector - it turned my NC from useless to awesome for like 5 bucks.
Update: Seems to be working great so far with the screen protector and silicone case.
BTW screen brightness was usually at ~50%.

The cause is normally from your fingerprints that's left on the screen since the screen is so sensitive. Does the screen protector takes care of the problem real good? And is it easy to install?

I use a screen protector also. Without one, i get phantom taps all the time.
Screen protector was bought from BN and was pricey. Came with 2. Can't remember who suggested it but, turn shower on in bathroom and let it run for 10 minutes with door closed. The moisture in the air will 'drop out' all the lint/dust. Shut off shower for 5 minutes and then apply protector.
This is what I do and it works great for all my devices.
Its been 24 hours with the screen protector and silicone case. No ghosts yet.

I recently got a Bionic XT875 Screen Guard on eBay and installed it and it looked BEAUTIFUL!! But PROBLEM! The day after, I started having a blackened screen when dialing calls. I blamed it on software, dialers, then the phone. So much so, I reset it all back to default on my Bionic. Still, blacked out as soon as call tried to connect!!
Finally, regretting the ruin on my screen protector, I peeled back and cut off the top 1/4" of the plastic and reseated it. Up just over to the right of the Motorola logo there are 2 sensor openings barely visible.
After wiping the newly exposed surface where the sensors reside, I tested some calls, My calls are displaying normally again!!! This sensor problem, it seems, is notorious on the Internet with smartphones and I think many are missing the real cause. I believe a microscopic speck of dirt or chemicals on the plastic were `de-sensitizing` the accuracy of the sensor as if a finger was being pressed on it. When darkened, it thinks the phone is up to the ear and blanks the screen.
I thought a post of this problem might alert others on the Bionic since many screen guards and covers go over the sensors. I am gong to buy another one, but before application I am going to cleanly cut off the top part in a better way than the chopping I did to fix this problem. I think many posts online of folks returning their phones for blacked-out screens and dialing sleep problems are really this instead. Hope this helps any other Bionic owners.

The ones from Verizon for the Bionic don't cover them, actually they only cover the screen itself and not the entire face. I was lucky to have gotten it put on with the purchase or I may have been having the same issue, thanks

I have Zagg's invisable shield. It has a cutout around the sensors.

I don't use screen protectors other than otter. At any rate, pocket mode is bugged to **** on this phone, would recommend shutting it off.
So, my current XT720 started having episodes of that dreaded "ghost touches" insanity two weeks ago with escalating frequency. Last week it started to happen roughly every two hours. I found that wiping the screen off on my shirt would help for a few minutes, but I just assumed placebo effect (somewhere I had read that the ghost touch problem results from ground wires coming loose--so I was contemplating disassembling and reassembling--except I can never get that stupid "8.0 xenon" sticker to come off cleanly in the past so I was holding off). On a whim I googled a bit and found on a droid forum that someone was claiming that cleaning the screen with an electronic wipe solution solved the problem but that success can depend on which cleaning solution was used. I was skeptical, but I had a pack of Windex electronics wipes so I figured "try it"... the ghost touches disappeared immediately and have not returned (it's been 5 days). So, clearly some sort of residue on the screen was responsible.
So that got me thinking. I'm currently using an XT720 I got used that came without a screen protector (My wife is using my original one that has a zagg invisible shield since day one and has never had a ghost touch problem). When I got my current one, I debated whether or not to install a screen protector and decided to give it a shot without (which is really nice by the way--the screen does not scratch even when you forget and drop your keys in the same pocket--but it does develop get a weird patina which is what the cleaning seems to have removed--the zagg has a nice feel to it, but it's got a strange uneven surface that takes some getting used to, so the shield-free experience was a nice change for the fingers--my only objections were that sometimes it seemed way to sensitive to touch and that the bevel edges around the screen feel too recessed so the design seems to anticipate that a screen protector is installed).
So, my question is: I can hand-wave an explanation that a conductive/capacitive membrane develops on the surface of the screen and interferes with normal operation of the digitizer. And that perhaps a screen protector counteracts this either by keeping whatever this conductive/capacitive residue is slightly further from the digitizer or possibly by preventing generation of this residue due to different surface properties. Have people had the ghost touch problem with screen protectors?

But i had ghost touches but not at all like yours it happened 5times max(in 2years of heavy use) i think and always when it was raining when my screen get a little wet... and it stop maybe 5min after drying the screen
Never got it with out rain...

I've had the ghost touch problem twice now, both with screen protectors. The first time was with the screen protector that came with my Otterbox and the second was with the protective film that comes with the phone new (it worked fine to my surprise). Each time, it happened about 6 months after receiving the phone. However, I've not tried the electronic wipe solution nor any physical disassemble/reassemble operations.

Hm, seems like what's actually happened is that the left-most strip of the screen doesn't respond to touch at all anymore. I just found it's difficult to type "q" and "1" So, probably the ghost touching was while that element was dying. It's still mostly usable (I can get the q and 1 by slowly moving my finger from the edge). If it gets worse I'll have to think about repair, I guess. I see the glass is available from ebay and I've also amassed a few for-parts XT720s so I've been looking into what's involved in replacing the digitizer but I can't figure out how to remove the front glass from the chrome frame...

I had these "ghost touches" until two weeks ago. Then, I installed a screen protector and had no problems at all later. I am not an expert of touch technology, but I assumed that putting something between the dirty and the screen would help, and I can say I was right so far
Ah, just one note: just before applying the screen protector, be sure to clean perfectly the screen, otherwise it will not counteract the problem (use for example an electrostatic "cleaner" and a properly clean cloth).

Has anyone tried bestskinsever? I just tried their skin on my n7 and the touch screen would barely work. Took the screen protector off, and everything was back to normal. Put it back on to see what would happen, and the touch screen stopped registering touches again.
Maybe the n7's screen isn't sensitive enough??

i tried 3 wet protectors so far, and I found less soap is better if you make your own solution.
As with most wet install screen protectors on the Nexus 7
As with most wet install screen protectors on the Nexus 7, you have to let it really dry.
The liquid use really affects the electrostatic touch and doesn't register.
This is my experience today with an XtremeGUARD Protector.
At first install mines didn't register. At about 1 hour I could touch it, but couldn't get it to "unlock". I took a drive putting the N7 on the dash to hasten the drying process using the Sun.
At about 4 hours I only had a few visible bubbles of water around the bezel edges. But it would not register touches unless I tapped power on/off/on, then is registered touches 100%.
Now at about 10 hours, I finally get to sit down and test the unit. It's probably been dry for a while. Even though it should be really dry in 24/48 hours. It registers touches 100% without the on off cycle.

I have used BSE on both my phones and were satisfied with the results. Skin was smooth to the touch and lasted 2+ years of daily use on my Nexus One.
Make sure you let it dry/cure for a good 24 hours, so all the moisture and air bubbles go away.
I only use bestskinsever. They are fantastic. I have one on my iPad 3, Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, iPod Touch, moms Droid Charge, dads Galaxy S III. Great feel.

You have to wait for it to dry for about 24 hours.
I've only had my unit a day and decided to give it a quick clean to remove the finger prints using nothing more that breathing on it and a spectacle cloth. Whilst doing this I found what at first appeared to be 2 finger prints on the left edge of the screen which did not appear to be coming off. I then tried a damp cloth followed by glasses cleaner and then a dab of washing up liquid. None of which seem to have any affect. The strange thing is that you cannot feel them or hardly see them after cleaning but as soon as you run your finger over them the grease from your finger makes them visible like a finger print. Also running a damp cloth over them makes them visible until the moisture evaporates and then they are gone. I have been incredibly careful and know I could not have caused them but was wondering if anyone else has this issue or how I can remove these marks without causing damage as my unit is perfect except for a tiny bit of screen lift which doesn't really bother me.
My Nexus also has a issue like this, but it's like a big smear near the top or the screen. I am 100% sure that I never dropped anything on it
It looks like a big fingerprint mark, but it won't come off.. like your issue
Luckily I'm getting it replaced anyway as the screen lift issue has returned, but I still would have got a replacement anyway due to this new issue.
Sounds like a problem with the anti-finger print coating that's normally used on phone/tablet screens.
I don't think you'll be able to fix it, if you obsess over it and keep trying to clean it off chances are you'll make it worse. Either get over it or exchange it.
Perhaps it's a fingerprint on the underside of the glass. I'm not sure. Hard to tell without pics.
Maybe a screen protector will cover this up. Can you feel it when you run your fingers over it?

Nah it is on top of the screen, you can sorta feel it - it is slippier than the rest of the screen. If I breath on it you can see that it is not affected whereas the rest of the screen goes grey.
I am really careful with plastic screens, but this one is glass. I squirt some Windex on a tissue and use that. Works great - but use at your own risk. Ops problem sounds like a bit of silicone on the glass. Use an appropriate solvent. Squirt nothing at the tablet - use a slightly moist tissue.

I also bought mine from Tesco Direct, phoned them up and then sent me a replacement the next day! (this was for the first replacement)
The replacement they sent me now has the screen lift and this screen issue. I phoned them and they said they are out of stock atm, but when it's in stock they will send me another replacement - they also gave me a £20 refund! :laugh:

It appears that I have a small scratch in the upper left portion of my display. I am unsure if I caused this (no drops) or if it came with a scratch (highly unlikely), either way though it's there.
I didn't think it would be enough of a reason to warrant an exchange, so I was wondering if you guys knew of any tips or tricks to fix the scratch. It's only visible at certain times and you can slightly feel it when running your fingernail or s pen across it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have T-Mobile Jump, so I might check to see how the warranty covers it.
If you cant feel them with finger nail, use some high quality polishing compound and buffing wheel on dremel. If scrath is little deeper, you will need to do some fine wet sanding with 2000 or higher sand paper. Make sure you mask everything very well. Another option is to put screen protector and it may hide fine scratches.

I have a scratch on mine also..actually if u include the really fine micro scratches that u can see with bright light,then i have quite a few,noticed 2 hrs after I got home with phone on launch day,don't how they got there,tmobile store were I got phone was really rude to me about exchanging it and told me it wasn't like that when I left,so...I've been stuck with it, put screen protector on it hides some of it but have one pretty deep one that u can see all the time,luckily it's only a couple of mm long..sorry for long rant,but had to vent,lol phone was in box till I got home and put screen protector on,that's when I noticed it..grr...
