Quick Settings fails to start WiFi? - Nook Color General

Sorry for the rather long post but i wanted to share some of my experiences with my Rooted NC.
I have been very happy with my NC util last night when I ran into a very puzzling problem.
The Quick setting pop up would not turn on my WiFi when I select the button. The button changed states from "OFF to "ON", but the small line of text displaying the WiFi status never changed. In order to actually turn ON WiFi from an OFF state, after turning it on in the Quick Setting pop up, I had to actually go to setting (from the menu button) and drill down to the wireless settings. As soon as the Wireless settings menu open, I noted that the list of acess points would show my router braodcast name with the status of "Out of Range" then it would immediately change to "obtaining IP address" , then "Testing", then finally "Internet connected". So obvisouly the Quick settings menu was not turning on the WiFi for some reason. Interestingly enough, to Quick settings pop of would turn off the WiFi. What a PITA.
This behaviour happened recently when I installed three different apps to setup and use ADB via wireless to my NC. One of the Apps was SambaFileSharing. However, I cannot confirm that the SambaFile Share app was the exact cause of the WiFi malfunction. I never did make it happen.
The FIX:
1. I first tried to re-run autoneuter; no change. Quick Settings WiFIf toggle is still broken.
2. Did a complete restore to factory per directions obtained on this forum and NookDev. This caused an infinite Nook Color (with Autoneuter boot screen) loop.
3. Follwing NookDev directions again I used ADB to toggle an 8 try fail that forced a "Settings delete" and Wipe.
This finally got me back to Nook Color 1.0.1 factory settings.
Then I ran through the re-registration and setup process and finally ran Autoneuter. I can now happily report that my NC is now working normal and Quick Setting works correctly.

Quick Settings fails to start WiFi? UPDATE
For all of you have read my post i have to provide an update.
Following the directions i posted here will get you back to ORIGINAL B&N software version 1.0. I had completely reload all of my apps and set everything up; including Zeam launcher and all of my favorite apps to find out that i was on B&N 1.0.
My mistake was that I incorrectly assumed the offical B&N update also updated the factory restoral image. Boy I was wrong.
So...I had start all over. Forced restore; re-register my NC, etc. After getting my NC back to the B&N stock 1.0 THEN I did the manual update to B&N 1.0.1. Finally I re-rooted my NC THEN loaded up Zeam and my favorite apps...again.

[Q] Rooted NC Market Downloads Won't Start

Hi everyone. I auto rooted my Nook Color yesterday (version 1.0.1). It generally works -- YouTube plays videos and I can access my Gmail account. However, when I go to Market and try to download an app, it says "Starting Download" but never begins or completes the process.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Did you ever find a solution for this?
I'm having the same problem -- in Market, downloads start but then nothing happens. Thanks.
I'm guessing the market has some problems today. Downloads on my Evo are crawling as well.
Same thing happen to me when I first used auto nooter on my nook a few days ago. Powering off the nook (hold power button down till it ask "do you want to power off completely") and rebooting solved the problem for me.
edit:
(i had to cancel the download and restart it also)
I also had this issue after using Autonooter, however the issue was a port on my corporate firewall being blocked. as soon as i jumped on my home wifi connection everything started downloading. I believe the port is mentioned in the autonooter thread somewhere.
I had the same issue, and a hard reboot seemed to do the trick.
I just rooted my NC using the Auto-nooter method, and also had the same issue with the Market, where apps would say "Starting download" but never finish. Reboot did not fix it for me.
I read in one of the threads that the device has to be first set up with a Gmail account. On my first sign-in, I used my YouTube login id. Even though my YT login is linked to my Gmail account, it seems that is not sufficient for the Market to work.
I couldn't find a way to undo/redo the account setup, so I bit the bullet and reset everything back to factory default, then re-rooted. This time I made sure to use my Gmail ID/password when first starting YT. Everything is working fine now, including Market.
Hope this helps.

Rooted NC (1.1) suddenly restarted itself and root is...altered?

I set down my NC (rooted about 2 weeks ago and was awesome!) and was on the phone not even 2 minutes when I happened to look at it and saw that it was at the start screen (the "n" and then the "touch the future of reading"). It did get to the android start up screen where it asks you to enter your gmail acct. I tried doing that and it said it couldnt get a network connection. I checked, and it's still at 1.1.0. But most of my rooted apps, settings, etc are gone. The market is still there, but I can't access it at this point because it wont accept my gmail registration...
I'm stumped! Should I try to re-root from scratch?
ETA:
After some investigation, it appears that the root is still in place but it's been pushed back to the point where you're supposed to sync with your google accts when you do the initial root. I try that, but it keeps giving me an error message that says "Cant Establish a reliable data connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call customer service."
It's connected to wifi, so that's not the issue.
Happened to me too
Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Afterwards, I reset the NC to stock and the only reason I haven't re-rooted is that for some reason I can't get it to update from 1.0.1 to 1.1.0.
When I purchased it a couple weeks ago, I side loaded the 1.1.0 update and it updated just fine. Now when I load the update, I can't get the process to kickoff. I've reimaged the system partition with 8 interrupted boots and reimaged the data partition with both the "Erase & Deregister Device" option and the power/home key boot multiple times, but nothing ever happens after transferring the sideload_update.zip to the NC. I've left it on for a couple nights, but still no update.

[Q] Forgotten wireless network

Ok I'm a moron.
I accidentaly told my nook to forget a wireless network and now I can't get it back. I've looked all through settings and don't see anything that would allow me to reset this. I've tried scanning as well.
I'm running gingerbread the CM7 mod.
Sorry I tried searching but when you look for something like 'resetting' you get a lot of threads about resetting back to stock which is not what I want to do.
Is there a way to I don't know purge the wireless settings so it will search for networks that it has been told to forget?

When you tell it to forget it doesn't blacklist a Network, it just Removes it from your preferred Networks and forgets the Password. It should reapear on the list of Available networks if in Range.
If it won't show up even when standing next to it do this.
-Download Wifi Analyzer from Market.
-Open App Punch Menu and Tap View. Select AP List.
-Look for the Network and Tap it. It might prompt for a Plugin from Market. Just Download and continue.
-When Window pops up put in Password and hit Connect. TaDa it should now work.

Well I don't know if its a glitch in system or the mod itself but when I got home my nook wouldn't connect to my home network either. It kept saying I was out of range even when I was sitting in the room with the router.
So I ended up just reinstalling gingerbread. My instal was only a week old do no real biggie for me just annoying.
Ill just make sure not to ever forget a network again as it apparently Jones up my system
Thank you for the advice though.

Hey I have the same problem going on right now. My system wont connect to anything. The wifi status just keeps saying connecting and then will eventually turn off. I think I am going to use this as an excuse to try out Deeper-Blue's Honeycomb preview.

Ok, how do I change wifi settings?

Let's say I pick up the ChromeCast put it into my pocket and take it to a friend's how to show it off. It still has my SSID programmed into it.
How do I reset it, while at his house, so that I can put her SSID into it?
I wonder if the hardware button resets it. I didnt see anything in the manual though.
I ran into this problem yesterday. I think you have to hit that little reset button because I couldn't change it at all.
If you take the Chromecast to a new location, it will display a screen stating that it cannot find the wifi it was originally configured to. At that time, it will broadcast itself as a wifi access point, and you can just run through setup again. ( Try google.com/chromecast/setup )
Alternatively, if you have an android device, you can download the Chromecast app to do some minor configuration. I found this was the easiest method to access the device on the same wifi network, and get details like ip address and so forth. It also looks like it's Google's method to install new apps to the device when they become available.
For a PC:
google.com/chromecast/setup
For Android:
Reset button.
That's all that works for me.

bluetooth not working

I am seeing the following issue:
I have a Droid 4, patched to run in GSM networks, flashed with CM 10.2.1. In this configuration, bluetooth used to work on this phone at least one month ago (because that's when my wifes new phone was bought and there my phone is listed as a paired device). Some time during the last month, I wiped my phone and reflashed the same CM 10.2.1 onto it (quite a lot of cruft had accumulated and I was having battery issues and was just too lazy to track down the specific culprits).
And now, when I try to turn on bluetooth in the settings menu, the button moves to the "on" position but stays grey and nothing happens. When I close settings and reopen it, the button is in the "off" position again.
Also, when looking in "about phone" -> "status" -> "bluetooth address", the entry text says "unavailable".
Any ideas as to
* how to further debug this?
* how to get bluetooth working again?
resolved ..
Hello everyone.
To report back, the reason it wasn't working is that I was an idiot.
Notably, when scrolling through the list of installed apps yesterday (looking for something utterly unrelated) I noticed an app called "Disable Service". Hmmm, I thought to myself, I vaguely remember using this a few months ago when trying to tweak battery lifetime. So I opened it and found out that I had deactivated, among other things, all Bluetooth related background services, thinking "I never need Bluetooth anyway", probably.
So yeah. Reactivating them led to, surprisingly enough, Bluetooth working again.
Sorry for the noise.
