mine was doing the same thing the other day when i got it back. you can factory reset it when the unit is turned off by holding the home key + end key + back key. It should bring you to the white screen with the android on skateboards and will ask you if you want to delete data. This will wipe your phone. My hero was not rooted and was up to date with all cuurent updates. My evo was stolen so i had just reactivated my hero this week.
What I did was I pressed the search button and got to the market that way then I downloaded adw because it was just sense fccing and installing a new home launcher that stopped the force closes so then I just rooted and installed asop9.9.2 and surprise surprise she likes that way better than sense lol and I also figured out what was causing the force closing it turns out HTC weather sync that was using the clock widget wasn't working and that was causing it to crash

ok my hero met an unfortunate death in lake michigan today (don't ask first phone I ever killed honest!)
anyways got a used hero off craigslist, was told it was new within the last month but guessing not at this point not a huge deal since it works fine but it looks like it was previously rooted possibly since if I go power and vol down I get the option to go into recovery, but then it goes to the phone with and exclamation point error. at this point I was thinking I would just start over its running the .6 version of 2.1 from sprint so I downloaded the .5 RUU but it hangs on the HTC screen when the phone reboots and won't install, so I'm kinda stuck at this point and not sure what's hanging me up, any ideas?
Run the RUU a second time while its stuck at the HTC screen, usb connection error 171 right?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
tried that and no luck. but after a couple hours of messing with the phone I found a post on here about someone who had the same issue. Was suggested to boot the phone with vol - up then plug in usb then run the RUU and it worked. so its up and running now thank goodness.
ok...was running cyan6 version right before the newest STABLE ver...then it began...i couldnt dl the newest cyan thru ROM manager..it kept giving me a error saying `download unsuccessful` sooo i Went the backdoor way and dl`d it, loaded it, wipe & install.....and ever since ive had NOTHING but FC`s and constant lock ups, getting suck on the boot screen....Ive pulled the battery over and over ,.........NOW IT WONT EVEN COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE PLEASE HELP
Just perform a clean install through recovery.
BTW: there's something wrong with your keyboard.

please educate me on bricked phone defnitions good sir.
While holding volume down, try the power button. Release buttons - does it start? (Should see a white screen with 3 Androids on skateboards).

So I have been wanting to flash a new os on my tab for awhile..i figured I'd start prepping for it today while waiting for an oil change. Backed up all my apps and whatnot with titanium backup. Then downloaded the verizon tab boot strap thinking it was like my droid x bootstrap. Stupid me.
I rebooted into recovery and it automatically did a backup for me, ok...odd liked like it wiped the phone first. Then when it finishes and leaves me st the reboot now prompt I do that.
My tab freezes at the samsung logo. Just sits there. Figured ok. This must be like my droid x or the wife's incredible. Hold down some hard button and power button and just clear my cache and data. Tried vol up and power, got nothing. Did vol down and power and now it its just sitting at a screen saying "Downloading...Do not turn off target!!!!"
What stupidity did I now? :-( been on that screen for 30 min now. Any help would be appreciated. Yes I know I should have researched more before running that app. I am an idiot. I can admit that.
Can I just hook this up to my pc and flash a new os now? Our reboot and find a different way to clear my cache?

hey everyone!
my phone went a little crazy by randomly shutting off while using cm10 so I decided to restore to a stock non-root nandroid I made around 8 months ago. Everything went well up until the point I rebooted: I unwittingly had set up a text lockscreen password that I had since then forgotten (who remembers passwords from 8 months ago?!). So I went in CWM, did a factory data reset and rebooted. I turned off the screen and turned it back on to BAM! the lockscreen again... And the fracked up thing is that there isnt even a "forgot password" gmail confirmation option thing at the bottom so I'm completely locked out of my phone! Is there anything I can do other than buy that $4 screen lock bypass exploitation app??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe try another factory reset (sucks I know) and this time after boot go into security settings and turn off the screen lock before your screen turns off. If you just try and change the password you'll be prompted for the old one first. That being said, I haven't used stock in so long I can't promise this will work either.
Those random reboots you got with CM10 were common with older versions and the other variants such as Pacman, Slimbean, etc, but the latest one I haven't had that happen and I've been using it a week. I only say this because stock is just makes this phone crawl IMO.

Haha, thanks, not an absolute fix but at least it works. Kinda strange since I read that CWM factory resets wipes out everything including lockscreen passes... And my phone wasn't rebooting, it would just shut off randomly, battery would drain at horrifying speeds (from 99% to 0 after a 7 minute phone call) (I also had the latest ver). I was thinking that I could maybe restore stock rom and send it back to samsung or provider since its still under warranty
EDIT: I'm gonna try Samsung Remote Screen Unlock and see if that works. Plus I just checked my battery: It's as swollen as Rosie O'donnell at Mandarin, which explains the crappy battery life.

If you're rooted you can remove gesture.key using adb shell but I forget where exactly it is. Google it

Hate to hear that and you're not the only one to mention swollen batteries around here lately either. Good luck to you!

yeah... can't root, need this phone to be as stock as can be if I'm to get it replaced (or at least the battery). Btw, Is there a way to possibly remove CWM in case they check recovery?
PS: Totally irrelevant but I keep reading about a CM10.1 rom for this phone; I've searched far and wide but I can't seem to find it! Could anybody point me in the right direction?

Yes the easiest way to get rid of cwm is to flash the stock file. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Exhibit_4G there are, i believe two methods, one using Odin the other flashing something in recovery. Just read. As for cm10.1 camcory is working on it so is smartguy. Even i compiled it but it doesn't boot all the way. Check insomniaforums.org that is probably where it will be posted

CM10.1 boots fine and runs smooth but not yet ready for release. There is a few broken items in it I believe if I recall but cannot restore it due to limited battery till I get home to verify what was wrong. Be patient and when ready public will know about it.

I need some help guys. Does any one have the com.lgsystemservice apk? I was removing some bloat ware and I accidentally removed this last night. My phone is not properly so if only one could help me with this I would be very greatful. For example when texting or just trying to type something it laying very bad or won't work at all. Thank you.
P.s. I tried searching for apk file my self and no luck.
I don't even see that in my system apps.

First off which variant do you have? Second I only see com.lgesystemservice.core.jar and com.lgesystemservice.core.odex which are part of the framework on the T-Mobile D959 variant.
Thank you for your relies, i have d959. The only thing that is not right is the keyboard. There is a terrible lag when comes texting. Other than thatthe phone seems to be working.
And the led light is flashing from green to blue
Please proofread your posts. I also have the d959 i dont find it in titatium. How where you deleting the bloat?

I used nobloat free
ok i am home now... before i was using my damaged g flex lol.
ok ill explain again but this time ill be more clear.
i am on tmobile and phone is D959
last night i was trying to delete some bloat ware using nobloat free from the market. i must have deleted something i should have because i was getting a pop up saying "unfortunately, com.lge.systemservice has stopped" i would tap ok and it would pop up again over and over again and i couldnt do anything so i had to force shut down the phone by holding the power button for about 10secs. once it powered on it poped up again but this time it was just once. after that i thought the phone was working correclty until i needed to send a text message, i saw that when i went to text a word there was a bad lag before the letter showed up. it seems that that is the worst thing that is wrong with the phone. i also notice that there is a lag when it comes to changing the volume setting from silent to vibrate to ringer.
i am woundering if i unroot and do a factory reset if that will fix my problem or if there is a way to download the stock rom so i can go back to stock if that makes sense.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644083
Follow this guide. You'll be fixed right up and even keep all your data. This will restore your phone to stock, then reroot and try again. I suggest freezing apps n the future so all you would need is to unfreeze if you mess up.

Thank you bro, I will try me best to do this lol. I just gotta ask because everyone is telling me to do this but to do a factory reset. I think if I do this it won't fix the problem. But can someone just tell me what it would do. Thanks.
