I have a peculiar problem.
I flashed a Doc Rom yesterday. After restarting the phone simply will not go past Black white samsung screen. I thought something might be wrong and flashed JPY firmware using odin. It was successful. But everything is fine except that the phone will not go past the Galaxy S boot animation screen. When I went to recovery mode it is showing an error message which goes something like this" cannot mount media. sd card requires preparation. go to the UI and format and boot options." I have got 3 button recovery as well as download mode. Is it possible to correct this error using ADB? Can somebody guide me. I am desperate as I love my phone very much.
i will not look for the problem cause ... if you have cwm check if lagfix is disabled and flash new rom via "install zip file" in cwm ... don't worry your phone is fine

At present condition, I have no CWM. I have only recovery 3e. Is it possible to flash CVM rhrough Odin?
If you can flash voodoo kernel, that has CMW inbuilt? Then try and figure it out from there?
I solved the problem by doing the following steps:
1. followed this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807784 and flashed XWJM8 whatever that may mean.
2. Voila after flashing the above with odin my phone restarted with familiar UI.
3. Suddenly I noticed that my phone does not have an IMEI and my sim card not detected. I was tempted to copy my backed up EFS folder and I resisted the temptation. Instead I copied the CWM and Doc's rom which I was using prevously to the External SD and afterwards copied the same to Internal SD.
4. I started my phone in recovery mode and i could see that still the error message was there. But I flashed CWM and again flashed Doc's Rom. After the phone restarted, I found that my sim was detected and everything was back to normal. OMG what a relief it was.
5. Thanks to XDA and it's members for helping me.
if u have root acess (and i hope yes)
u have to restore system, turn off and than turn on pressing home and volume up, 3 bottons in same time, than with volume keys and home choose BACKUP AND RESTORE, than ADVANCED RESTORE and than SYSTEM, if u have maked a backup u have to chose that backup or one of them if u have more. let him restore and choose REBOOT PHONE. now u have phone again.
if u need some help email me [email protected]

Borrowing the tread. I was using CM9 and installed NStools and after a while my phone rebooted and started then froze at my homescreen. I went in to recovery and did a factory reset and the phone worked again. So I tried installing NStools again and got bootloops so I did a factory reset again but now I get bootloops and I can't go in to recoverymode.
My question is can I just flash EZbase 4.0 (Gingerbread) and then flash CM9 directly from it?
Thanks.

Got a VZW Galaxy tab. Rooted and got ROM manager & SGS Kernel Flasher.
1. I flash using SGS and it successfully flashes, as it reboots and I can see from Settings->Device Info that it shows the Developer's version.
2. I then go to CWM (ROM Manager) load ROM from SD, chose the ROM which is in update.zip format, I select to wipe date and casche and then nothing.
It gets stuck at the SAMSUNG boot screen. So i have to use Heimdall to restore back to stock VZW Rom. I have tried several times, even after flash just tried to reboot directly into Recovery mod (Power+Volume Down) and same thing. Goes to SAMSUNG boot screen and freezes.
What am I missing or doing wrong???
First thing i would recommend is : uninstall rom manager. It causes more problems. If you did a search on these forums you would find loads more tales of woe re rom manager.
Second thing is: have look through the dev section, at the instructions for installing clockwork recovery. Then look for the appropriate rom for your device.
But whatever you do, uninstall rom manager

Have you tried booting into CW Recovery manually and running the KhasMek.Voodoo.Plus.CDMA.Tab.v5.OC.zip (like the instructions say)?
Your thread header says you are using ROM Manager and trying to run the update.zip package.
ROM Manager _should_ work, but maybe stick with instructions especially if you're having issues.
Yes I have tried going into Recovery manually as I stated in my original post.
I always flashed with SGS kernel flasher as it seemed to work well.
Then I tried manually going to Recovery w/o CWM and gets stuck at boot screen as well.
I tried WITH CWM and same stuck at boot screen.
Tried wiping data through Recovery, through the UI (Settings then ect, ect) and several other combos trying to load the custom ROM.
All I am successul is at rooting, then flashing the kernel. Then no matter which step I tried if i reboot it will get stuck at the SAMSUNG boot screen.
Even if I just turn it off and then turn it back on, after the flash, it will get stuck at the boot screen.
I downloaded the kernal flash directly from the link of the first page. And if the kernal file was courrupt i don't think the flash would go successfully.
I've never used the SGS Flasher so can't say what it would do if the file was corrupt.
Maybe flash it using Heimdall to check the file?
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I am also sorry for the rudeness on this forum. Although I seldom post I read it daily. Here is what I would try;
1. The issue may be with the file name update.zip if you can, rename it to anythingyoulike.zip on you computer and then copy it to your SD card. You may even have to take the card out of your tab to do this (delete the update.zip once the file is renamed). Once the renamed file is on the SD card try to reflash.
2. Have you tried to start again using Odin? There is a good clip on you tube about this. As long as the tab at least starts to boot it is not bricked. Feel free to PM me for any additional help.
Good luck.

When I use SGS to flash, it reboots and i can see in settings that it has been flashed.
If I use Heimdall, it flashes then gets stuck at the boot screen.
Essentially I am at a lost of what to do.
I have tried everything to no prevail which leads to me to my defeat post here for a cry for help.
I DO NOT believe I have bricked it yet because I can still get into download mode and CVM but it doesn't look like this image: http://blog.laptopmag.com/wpress/wp.../Clockwork-Mod-Boot-Screen-e1279545586372.jpg
which is what I wanted. My original plan was to install a new ROM however, I do not have that option "install zip from sdcard". Therefore I had to install the Speedmod Kernel which is why
ANYWAYS moving on, I have tried Heimdall and Odin. I have been able to bootup the phone. HOWEVER it doesn't load a ROM because the Samsung Galaxy GT i9000 logo just keeps looping. Like I said, I am able to get into Download mode and CVM with the new menu. However, when I click anything the screen goes blank and nothing happens. I am at a complete loss of what to do. I have tried everything and I'm looking to advice.
Thanks and hope to hear from you all.
If I remember correctly the Speedmod Kernel uses the power button to select options and if you click the home button the screen will go black.
If this is not the issue then reverting to a stock Rom is probably your best option.
Find a stock Rom at: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9000&r=-1#modelsa (this link is for international version) just select your country. from the links just above Firmwares for GT-I9000 .
From here you want to get a pit 512 & make sure you have a firmware with 3 files (PDA, Phone, CSC) . From here there are plenty tutorials on how to install a stock ROM.
If your issue is not pressing the wrong button in speedmod let me know and I'll be happy to provide a basic list of what to do... or provide a link.
Thanks for the quick reply, I have done that. I have installed the best one I could find: I9000XXJVQ
I put the following 4 files in Odin:
s1_odin_20100512 (PIT)
CODE (PDA)
CSC (CSC)
MODEM (PHONE)
It brings me to Android system recover <3e>. From there I'm at a lost at what to do. I see when it says
Code:
Copying media file
E:failed to mount. /sdcard (File exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /sdcard you storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
Media files copy failed.

From there I do not know what to do. When I click reboot system now; nothing occurs, the SGS image at the beginning still continues to loop. I'm looking at how to install the CVM so I can install my custom ROM.
I believe in the past I managed to do it (I installed the Dark Knight mod; but when it booted it said Encryption Unsuccessful and it only happened once. Was never able to get past that screen).
Anyways, that's the instruction from what I did above. What next (It's still looping at the SGS text at the startup).
EDIT:
From this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9336821&postcount=2
I then followed the install instructions for Root XXJVQ
The thing installed, it still has the issues. Opens the SGS start screen and doesn't go anywhere.
Further EDIT:
I then restarted the phone with following combination. (Power + Vol Up + Home). It then launched in CVM. I cleared partition and cache. I then installed the .zip ROM file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510940&highlight=cyanogen) from SD card. Rebooted system. It launches. Says "Encryption Unsuccessful" Please restart phone. I click the restart phone button. It restarts, I then get the android looking icon dead on the ground with it's chest open with a "Red triangle !" above it. Stuck from here.
Wish I could help further. In my experience I had to flash stock twice. Once with with pit file and repartition selected. Once without pit file and repartition unchecked.
From there to flash a custom ROM you need to get rid of 3e recovery by flashing something like CF-roof. Then once you have cf-root you can instal custom ROM.
Here is link for cf-root

HOw long did it take for the ROM to install?
Have you tried removing the battery, battery back in recovery and reflash the ROM.
ICSSGS 4.2 has a requirement to be flashed twice. (different rom but may be similar issue)
Once to update the bootloader which will result in a boot loop when coming from a Gingerbread ROM and again to fully install the rom
Lastly download the ROM again checking the MD5 checksum before flashing
I trust that this will assist
Does it matter if it is installed from the External SD or Internal SD because when I try to install from the internal SD it says "Can't mount /emmc/" so I'm only able to install from the external SD.
I tried installing it twice. I still get the encryption unsuccessful screen. I also re-downloaded the ROM.
OK ii think what you need to do now is try to get the phone to boot successfully into a stock rom for your region.
You mentioned in the first 2 or 3 posts that you did download from SamFirmware a stock rom.
It is probably a Odin flashable ROM
Is it a 3 file or 1 file?
Flash and then boot up the phone to be able to use it.
If successfull move on to the next step.
If you have been able to do this before i would suggest to try a different ROM.
I can personally recomend the ICSSGS 4.2 ROM following the instructions on the opening post for that ROM
If this works then try Dark Knight or other ROM
If this post has helped please use the Thanks Button

Unfortunately, it does not boot into stock ROM. It just loops.
I tried to do it over again. I used a different firmware: I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA
So let's begin by retracing everything I did.
1) I essentially did this: http://www.androidegis.com/how-to/learn-how-to-install-xxjvu-firmware-on-galaxy-s-i9000/ (so it had the 4 files: pit, PDA, Code & CSC)
2) After I did that, I went into Odin and Put this as PDA "CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS" and clicked start
3) It then loaded but it keep looping. I had a feeling it didn't have a ROM installed. I erased data, cache and etc. Then I installed the Dark Knight 3 ROM. Install by external SD because I couldn't get the internal SD to work "Can't mount /emmc/" error.
4) I then reboot. I get the ROM loading screen. Then boom, stuck on Encryption Unsuccessful.
5) I put it back in recovery mode and repeat step 3 again.
6) I get the encryption error again.
Pretty much stuck at there.
so what you are saying is that no matter what firmware you flash it will boot loop?
I personally would not be trying a ICS ROM until you can boot a gingerbread rom successfully.
I have personally softbricked my phone once where i then was able to get into 3BR but was unable to boot due to a bad flash reflashing a gingerbread rom a couple of times with odin worked for me.
Try reflashing your JVU rom 2 times in a row.
I assume that you are able to get into 3BR if so what happens if you try to mount /system is there a error message?
When the phone is boot looping what is displayed on the screen?

from what you are doing it seems like you aren't doing what we say. Sorry if this is not the case.
1. Follow steps from your link above.
2. Attempt to reboot. Most likely you will be stuck in boot.
3. Flash again steps as link above. This time do not use pit and make sure repartition is unchecked.
4. Now boot. This time you should boot into stock.
5. Once in stock set USB debugging on and connect phone to PC and copy ROM you want to flash to internal sd card .
6. Flash CF-root with Odin.
8. Restart phone in to recovery and flash ROM on sd card.
Sorry to repeat this but none of what you say mentions flashing stock twice once with and once without repartition checked. You need to do this right after each other.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
So your suggestion is to keep doing JVU flashing until I can get it to work? Do I just follow that instruction and do the flash once with the PIT file (and repartition) and do it again without the PIT file? If it still doesn't boot, what then?
The phone boot looping. RIGHT when you turn on the phone. It has that Samsung Galaxy I9000 screen. It just has that, goes black for like 2-3 seconds then resets itself over and over again.
There is no issue with mount /system. I believe when I try to mount /emmc, there is an error. This is important because this is what lets me access the internal SD.

It just goes into Android system recovery <3e> and the copying media files fails (both times I flash it). Just an error, still can reboot system and etc but I don't think anything happens.
This error on the second flash is

Click Reboot Now is <3e>. Nothing happens, it boots up. Shows the first Samsung Galaxy S screen, does nothing. About to boot stock ROM but doesn't. Loops it back to the SGS screen once more. Then it just shuts off and a picture of a battery shows up?
If you are flashing through Odin twice all three files 1st time with pit and repartition checked, second time without pit and repartition unchecked and still have issues then I would say problem may be with phone but I am new to this myself. Only commenting and given suggestions as I had similar issues which I resolved with steps I mentioned.
Options would be to download another stock ROM and do a checksum to ensure it is fine, download a different version of Odin (i use odin 1.85) and a new 512 pit file, reinstall the drivers for the phone, try it all on a different PC. Also make sure kies is not running when you do this (kill any background services.for kies) and try disable your antivirus on your PC. Also remove external as card and Sim.
If these suggestions don't help try search google for those errors you are getting. That's what I have done and managed to sort every issue so far.

Ok lots of reading in past posts here's what I would do and it works everytime. Google links to xxjvu firmware and and use those three files plus pit 512 repartition checkedand flash. Then to root your phone simply go to darky website. But before you do any of that tell me what rom you were on before you flashed new kernel and what exactly were you trying to accomplish out of your phone. ie.end result and who your service provider is. If you pm me I can walk you through it no problem.

It was 2.3.3 I believe before I did it.
My goal is to put a nice custom ROM (looking towards Dark Knight 3).
I have no idea what the specific darky rom I need.
Service provider was Virgin Canada.
Been thinking. Have you tried using heimdal. Try search for a tutorial that flashes a stock ROM with heimdal.

What did you have before the problems? Was it a lagfixed rom with ext4 partitions?
I've had strange problems when I tried to flash stuff with a lagfix, try to flash your stock base, and then flash a kernel that supports ext4. See if it boots up. If it does, disable lagfix and then change to whatever you want

Did you flashed recovery? First option in rom manager.

then when i try to install from SD card nothing happens
Thankyou YkZ_1967 !!! However I installed qtADB and got reboot recovery, but it just reset the phone. Any ideas?

that's depend what you want to do, if you install custom rom, reboot in recovery, wipe data/cache / dalvik , then install zip from sdcard and choose your rom, then after success flash, reboot now.
I want to install cyanogen but when i try to load from sd card in rom manager it wont go into boot recovery.
when i managed to get it to boot recovery in the way you suggested it only reset the phone.
I feel like i'm missing something, did not think it would be this difficult

That means actually no cwm recovery installed yet so it will reset your phone everytime you want to enter recovery mode. This is the best thing you should do : reroot your phone like in this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487105. It will automatically installing cwm recovery touch. After that, you can go to recovery mode by using quick boot (download it from playstore). Therefor, you can start flashing roms, but remember don't use rom manager, coz it wont detect your cwm recovery touch and forcing you to flash the non-touch cwm recovery.

after you try to install zip from SD card and fails, check to see if it shows: error can't mount /sdcard. or something like that. ???
if it syas so. try a different recovery like TWRP, i was having a problem, similar to what you describe, an hour ago while rooting and flashing my mother's in law OB, i flashed the CWMT recovery and for some reason it couldn't load the ZIP from SD and it showed this error, so i flashed TWRP recovery and then it was fine, i manage to flash marvel rom and all was good.
hope it helps.

you are right, but i had a problem, the CWM was flash and ob went into CWM recovery mode, but for some reason it stated an error that it cannot mount /sdcard, so i tried via recovery menu to mount sd card, didnt work, then i tried again to flash a different version of CWM, same error, then i went and flshed TWRP and it worked.
i wonder if its a specific OB bug, bcoz this problem happen on my mother in law OB and on my OB it was rooting and flashing just fine, exactly like the guide.
Hi All,
I am in desperate need of help.
I have a nexus s. rooted, with cyanogenmod kernel and slimbean rom.
My friend has a galaxy s1 that had unrooted froyo.
A friend of his rooted it, and put gingerbread on it. I wanted to put slimbean on it for him.
I did so.
Except, that his mobile network wouldnt connect.
I googled, and found that this could be because the kernel is not compatible with the rom.
So I downloaded cyanogenmod kernel and flashed.
But this didnt work, because I think the download was corrupted or something.
I tried to re boot into clockwork, but it just got stock on the first loading screen.
Since then I have tried everything and have been googling for hours... I dont know what to do. I have tried so many different things.
Please can some guru help me figure out what to do?
My friend is pissed as hell at me, I told him it will be painless quick and easy. Thats how it was for me and i assumed same for him.
PLEASE!! I need HELP!! :'(
Edit: I reflashed semaphore and it now goes into cwm. But now when I flash the rom and reboot it, it just reboots automatically into cwm again. Anyone know where to go from here?
Thanks in advance,
Zeddicus

It appears to be a bootloop. That means flashing messed with boot partition and you have to reflash boot. Is this phone i9000 or i9001?

If you can get to CWM or download mode nothing bad happend - you can repair everything, however it would be wise if you had backup of previous, working ROM
Calm down its fixable first you try to fix it without Odin by
- flashing slim bean again don't forget full wipe flash i9000.zip twice the first time it will reboot half way through at least it did for me
-then pull out the battery and boot into cwm
- flash both slim bean files
- this should get the phone starting again after that to get network working flash this file in cwm http://www.mediafire.com/?fbgxblhbip7bkuv it should get network running credit goes to pwneman for that
Let me know how it goes

Try to format your sdcard in fat32 filesystem (through Windows/CWM or any other various ways if this won't work)
Also try other sdcard...
If formatting card doesn't fix the problem try to reflash CWM via Odin in Download mode.
ok i did a hard reset and left batt out for a good few min and got the sdcard back again.
i followed the steps u said latrop and it didnt fix it... still booted back into cwm...
since i now have the sdcard back i am making a backup zip file of it just in case lol
@divibyzero
i followed that post but it didnt fix the problem
OK you will have to flash with Odin I'll get back to you with instructions

Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961959/ then once that's done phone should start up if it does follow my previous instructions

Wait, before you odin flash:
Let me get this straight, your rom .zip is on your external sd card? it has to be in your internal sd card.
From the recovery main menu, go to mounts & storage. From there, plug in your phone to your computer and select "Mount internal USB storage."
You'll be able to then copy the rom file into your internal sd card. While you're at it, I'd recommend X-Bean, as it's currently faster and more stable than SlimBean. Then, unmount your phone and return to the recovery menu and select install zip and choose the file you've just copied.
Please let me know how it goes.
@kngroo
thats what i did.. ive flashed tons of roms and kernels before on my nexus s...
its this galaxy s 1 that isnt working for some reason... it was meant to be a quick and painless proceedure which has turned into a nightmare
gonna probably have to format the sdcard now :*(
Hi All,
I wanna give a SERIOUS thank you to latrop.
This guy is a freaking legend. He just sat with me for almost 2 hours helping me sort out the phone. We did almost everything you can think of and then some... But ultimately it was latrops great experience and knowledge that helped save my ass here...
Phone is running full on slimbean rom with great reception etc.
Latrop... you are a legend!!!
Just wipe/factory reset and wipe cache
its work for me and maybe it would work with you too
Hi,
i have GT-N7000 with RocketRom v1 and CWM 5.? recovery.
Today i installed ROM manager and clicked on flash CWM recovery (at the time i did not know i shouldnt do that). Phone worked ok. I tried to make phone image/backup but it failed twice.
Phone rebooted but did not go to recovery and i didn't get any new files. So i went to recovery and made backup from there. I rebooted and i had this image files. Then i wiped data and tried to install back this backup. All went fine except somewhere in the midle phone rebooted by itself. Since then phone only boots to the "logo screen". I left it like that for 30minutes and it was still the same. I can go to recovery and download mode but i can not flash rom from recovery. I tried and it starts instaling rom but after few minutes of inactiveity phone reboots. I flashed recovery via ODIN and it is still the same. I also tried to install stock rom but i get error that phone can not read from /sdcard/ROM.
I realy need your help because this is company phone and they will kill me :/
I just tried to install AlianceROM and it started it installed and all it allso sayed that install was sucsessful but still nothing. When i start phone i see Samsung Galaxy logo and nothing more.
use PC odin... put the phone in download mode and install a stock GB rom.. if successfull .. before it boots .. reboot into recovery and do a wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, and wip dalvik.. then reboot
