love this!! .. would it be possible to get a shutdown animation too? cause there's one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10926995&postcount=4 but it's not compatible with cwm3, nor does it have your customizations which I love.
Thanks

Thanks for reminding me! I had originally intended to do just that, but completely spaced it. I've attached it here and updated the OP. Certain kernel limitations forced me to shorten the sequence.

shutdown works perfect! love it!! thanks!!!
why am I dumb?
I can't ever get any of these to work...I install custom ROM's and widget mod's through CWM3 all the time, and boot ani's just never seem to work. I'm running Viper ROM now. I've downloaded the .zip, boot into recovery, choose install .zip, go to the file, install it....system says, it was installed properly, reboot..same boot screen as before.
what am I missing?
UPDATE: The shutdown loaded correctly, and it's awesome....still having issues with the bootup though. harumph.
This worked, but then I started getting a bunch of FC's. Then I ran ROM Manager permissions fix and it got rid of most of the FC's except for google framework which is very important. I have no idea how this could have caused these issues. But after restoring my nandroid backup (Thank God I backed up!) everything was back to normal.

When you three-finger-boot into ClockworkMod recovery there's a backup/restore and it's called nandroid backup. It works very well backing up everything on your phone system/data/settings, everything.
The custom ROM I have came with the ROM Manager apk (which is run on the phone). It has an option to fix permissions which corrects the file permissions of all of your apps and data for root access in case permissions get corrupted. Sometimes when you install a new mod/zip the file permissions either get corrupted or are not given (I'm no dev, so I don't know the specifics). If you get a lot of ForceCloses this will fix them in most cases.
I don't know exactly what happened, but I'm 99% sure it was from installing this shutdown animation and after restoring (again through CWM3) it works fine now.
Hope that helped.
I booted into CWM right after posting that and found the fix permissions option you were talking about. I had already been performing the nandroid backups, but didn't know they were called that. Thanks for the quick response!
I'm still not able to get the boot animation to work though. The power down worked, and it's pretty cool....anybody got any ideas?
Good looking out bro, This animation always stayed in my Moment as a back up cause I liked it so much.
maybe this...?
could it be because my kernel is 2.6.32.9?

That's the same kernel I'm on. Should work just fine, perhaps there is some conflict with the new ViperROM? Haven't tested it on that ROM since I first released this. I know they have lots of modifications, even to the kernel I believe.

You need to have a kernel that supports boot animation chnges. Mammon was the one who did this for 2.1, I believe he was the one who did it for 2.2 as. Well.

**Captivate users please make sure you are using a custom kernel that supports this.
**Vibrant users just need to flash and you are good.
**Epic users just flash the update.zip. it appears all previous issues have been resolved. thanks to Firon for the ammends needed!
THIS NEEDS TO BE FLASHED WITH CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY! THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH AN AOSP ROM. THE 1st BOOT WILL TAKE A WHILE BECAUSE OF THE DEXOPT. DON"T FREAK OUT!

What was needed to change?
not looking good so far...it took forever to boot, and had a problem loading the power widget. When I deleted it, and tried to re-add, I got a force close after choosing to add android widget. I'm rebooting now...
mm0
yeah, still doesn't work. I also can't load up the WAP...just goes to a blank screen. Samsung widgets seem to work ok.
I do have the lag hack installed. That may be an issue, not sure.
mm0
process.com.android.settings is what is forceclosing, both for the WAP, and for android widgets.
Flashed on deodexed rom. Option now comes up in settings, but hangs...
will this work for the captivate and the i9000?
Didnt work for me I got the menu entry but as soon as I select wireless ap all i get is a black screen.
I am running the vibrant 4 rom
sorry forgot to set perms in the update-script for wlp2pservice & also forgot to set the script to delete Settings.odex. will upload a fix in a few

It's in apps like google maps 5 which allow you to rotate the map using multitouch.
Sorry for the confusion.
Also, it might work for MIUI. There's nothing special about the fix.. it just adds permissions for the discrete multitouch interface.
works with nightly 174.
i flashed to miui, doesnt appear to have changed anything?
Thanks a lot for this. Works great.

Yikes! I did stress to back up.. you never know what can happen.
Well I'm not sure what to say.. the update has worked fine on many phones (even a moto droid).. so I'm sure it works.
I don't know where the middle eastern song could have came from. The zip only contains an update-script and the fixed xml file.
If you guys can give me some more info, rom, updates, some possible causes.. maybe I can help you. I'm going to post the md5sum, so maybe you guys can double check that the file downloaded all the way. I'm not here to make malicious posts.. so something else must have happend..

It's my own fault for not creating a backup first. I thankfully did a full backup on 12-15 so I'm restoring that now (after doing a full wipe).
I'm running CM 6.1 stable, Invisiblek #17 AOSP kernel. I don't think you're creating a malicious post. Who knows where the problem lies. It could have been anything and just triggered with the fix you posted. I'll let you know how it goes after the restore.

I was running 6.1 stable. After flashing over with the 184 nightly, rotate didn't work for me either. Restored back to 6.1 and applied this fix, and now it's working fine.
I've flashed over many nightlies with no issues, always assuming all of the fixes were in place. Do the changes in the nighties only completely apply with a full wipe? Do some of them not apply with a flash over? Actually in this case it appears they don't. That is concerning...

The updates do apply on a flash over. The merge wasn't synced with the buildbot yet.. so probably won't work until 185

Thanks for clearing that up.
So i successfully installed rom manager from market and got 3.0.2.8 recovery. Backup worked like a charm. Then i tested "Fix permissions" and it did bad things to my phone... i lost all text almost everywhere after the recommended reboot... luckily i had a fresh backup and the restore worked just as intended.
So what good things is this "Fix permissions" supposed to do?

Flashing with ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7. I've only tested this on my own stock / BML / EL30 Epic, and MTD EL30 SleeperRom - I don't get any system crashes unlike the EI22 one I tried before. Make a nandroid backup just in case, and wipe your Dalvik cache after flashing, but this should work on odexed and deodexed roms just fine. Be sure to push thanks, Thanks!

Thanks,
I was trying to do the same thing. I've never cooked up a rom, but it really didn't seem too difficult. As far as I could tell all I had to do was decompile the framework-res.apk, modify one line of code, recompile, and reinstall. Every step was a pain, and I never got it to boot. Glad you got did this.
If you feel like posting the steps you used I'd be interested to see where I went wrong.

You can change the color of the over scroll glow and the status bar, but I don't think you can change the color of the CRT off animation, or at least not the way I'm doing it. That would be cool though, make it burn-in green, heh.
I updated this for stock FC09 here:

I'll update the OP as well.
Has anybody gotten any themes to work on TWRP? I have tried using the TRWP Theme Manager app from the Play Store, and I have also tried using themes I've downloaded from here on XDA, and I cant get any themes to apply either way. I've renamed the downloaded .zip's to ui.zip and put them in /sd/TWRP/themes/, and even tried the "Reload Theme" option under Advanced. The theme manager app puts a ui.zip in the correct folder, too. But no matter what I do, the themes I try & use never get applied. I am using the correct .zip files for the screen resolution (400x800). Anybody get any TWRP themes to apply?
Strange, after flashing CM11, I tried the TWRP Theme Manager app again, and it works flawlessly now. Probly had to do with wiping cache is my guess...
I'm not sure if it matters, but was your stock rom deodexed when you tried?
Lol, I just noticed this thread was started the day after Christmas. Anyway, I deodexed my dad's Desire 510 last night. I'll give it a shot applying a theme and post back if anyone else would like to know if it works or not.

I don't believe that it does matter when it comes to TWRP. I just drop the zip in /TWRP/theme and hit Reload Theme and I've never had a problem. You gotta be deodexed to theme stock UI to my knowledge (never tried, CM ftw) but you shouldn't have to be in TWRP because its not apk.

I figured the same thing, especially since they're on separate partitions. OP must have done something wrong, because I installed a theme with TWRP Theme Manager just fine. I didn't try while still odexed, but I still could since I have backups.
Wierd thing, TWRP still doesn't load any themes that I put in /external_sd/TWRP/theme/. I have to put them in /data/media/0/TWRP/theme/. Won't load themes from sd even if I choose 'reload theme'. Hmmmm.......
It was like that on TWRP 2.8.1.0, and is still like that on 2.8.5.0.
I wonder why it's like that for me and not others? I'm sure it's gotta be something I'm doing or did wrong/different.
