Ok im not sure if this should be posted here or in themes but here is my problem
Will it seems like when ever i try to theme Launcher.apk it doesnt work.
I reboot the phone and then i just get the android loading screen, but i can still get calls and the phone works as normal just without a Launcher app.
So what i want to know is what could cause this?
i themed it before and made an update.zip theme and that works but now its not working even using MetaMorph does the same thing.
*more info*
Then I used openhome to get to subf and tried to install launcher and it gives me cannot be installed on this phone error.
Im runing a rooted 1.6 i believe it was basic off of cm41 i know its old.
did you follow the theming guide?
yea i themed 1.5jf and a few cm builds and never had this problem ,
even theme the build i am on now. But i am trying to change it and thats when i am getting this problem.
Its like when i change something on Launcher.apk it just seems like it doesnt install any more.
I've even themed the Launcher.apk reziped and adb pushed it and still same thing.
I got nandroid backups so its no problem just trying to find out why this is doing this so i can move on an get it to look the way i want.
fiy im only changing app drawer background and the tabs.

So you resigned and everything?
Oh but what rom are you using?
You can't just re-sign one app and push it.. all the apps (except the google ones, which can't be touched) need to have matching keys. The theme guide should tell you which apps need to be signed together.

When i made a couple of themes i used 7zip to open and photoshop to modify certain apps and the framwork. Then when finished rezipped folders then signed.
I downloaded it long ago dont remeber who made its say
kernel version 2.6.29.6-cm41 dan2Sunnyvale )
build number DRC83
Its a ADP 1.6 that was made when 1.6 launched im thinking of switch to another build but had this problem when i did that before.
And yes apk has been resigned the same way i made my theme update.zip
I used the same temple just changed like 2 .png in launcher resigned everything
reboot phone flash. same problem
adb push. same problem
used MetaMorph droid app drawer. same problem
MetaMorph Stock-App-Drawer. same problem
So its not in the signing its something to do with changing the launcher.apk then it no longer wants to work.
hell i even deleted the <packages></packages> info for launcher rebooted and try again and still no luck.
Im going to switch enom build later on and see what happens but i had this problem before with launchers on other builds. Its like I can only theme it onces then it no longer works.
thanks to all that read this i know its long but i cant wrap my head around why all this is happening

Wow thats pretty ancient, it usually says dersert labs or cyanogen and maybe twisted?.
Yea I know its old I need 2 upgrade just haven't felt like redoing the phone, but on another note I tried the metamorph android2.0-stock and every single apk work but lanucher and I didn't try framework. But ill probaly update 2 morrow or 2 night and see if I still have this problem.
This may or may not be an easy question to answer but I am looking for the default black keyboard that is used in the Axura and I think Perception ROMs. I flashed both of those this week but am now back on Cog and I'd like to give that keyboard a shot and see if it will even work. It was a semi-transparent black keyboard I believe that had blue pop-up letters when pressed. Could I be anymore vague?
I'd just rather not flash back to those if I don't have to.
Thanks for the help!
Did you try to unzip the roms and pull the keyboard out of them? I dont know if it would also be part of the framework but its worth a shot.
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.
I think it's MultiTouch Keyboard but idk where to find it for you sorry.
It's this one.

That does seem to look like the one. For whatever reason I can't get it installed on Cog 2.3B6. I'm guessing because it's not an i9000 based ROM like Axura?
I did try extracting the other ROMS and looking in system/app and the only ones I see in there are AxT9IME.apk, LatinIME.apk, and Keyboard-HTC.apk. I already have the HTC_IME MOD keyboard installed and when I tried installing the Keyboard-HTC.apk, it installed as the same HTC_IME keyboard with white keys. I also tried the Droid Multitouch keyboard which is close but still not what I'm looking for.
Strange.
You need to uninstall the LatinIME.apk (stock android) keyboard. This one needs to replace it. Can't have both at the same time for some reason. Here is the original thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754948
I tried to install it from the link above and had some issues. I got it fixed and here is how. (Granted I am on Perc.7 though). First I tried jist to copy the .apk provided for the multitouch but got force closes even after a reboot. I did rename the latiname.apk to latiname.apk.old and rebooted. Next I installed the samsung keyboard apk and lib file since I had issues with the force closes. This way I had a working keyboard. Next I used root explorer to again move the wjdblue apk and rebooted. Came back up and this time it showed both the samsung and multitouch keybaords so i thought I was good. Then I selected the multitouch keyboard bit started getting foce closes again. I then switched back to the samsung keyboard. I then went back into the extra lcted.folder from the link above, went into the lib folder, copied the libjmi_latinime.apk and moved it to/ system/lib and pasted, said yes to overwrite the current file, rebooted and wahhlllaaa I am using it right now. So it must need/know the exact lib file to match it. Hope this helps. If you need both the apk and lib file shoot me a pm and I will upload them to dropbox for you. Or just use root explorer and extract the zip file previous poster posted and grab them.

*UPDATE 2/2/11* Added flashable shutdown animation. See bottom of OP.
Credit to Gla'DOS for original animation.
Requirements:
- Any ROM with a kernel that supports custom boot animations (Bonsai4All, ViperROM, etc)
- Ability to boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery (any version) and flash a .zip file
What is it?
- I modified the original animation, removed the light flare, and added loading status indicators under the animation.
- Increased playback length with repeating loading status indicators.
PREVIEW
Instructions:
- Download .zip to SD Card
- Flash in CWM (all versions of CWM supported)

shutdown works perfect! love it!! thanks!!!
why am I dumb?
I can't ever get any of these to work...I install custom ROM's and widget mod's through CWM3 all the time, and boot ani's just never seem to work. I'm running Viper ROM now. I've downloaded the .zip, boot into recovery, choose install .zip, go to the file, install it....system says, it was installed properly, reboot..same boot screen as before.
what am I missing?
UPDATE: The shutdown loaded correctly, and it's awesome....still having issues with the bootup though. harumph.
This worked, but then I started getting a bunch of FC's. Then I ran ROM Manager permissions fix and it got rid of most of the FC's except for google framework which is very important. I have no idea how this could have caused these issues. But after restoring my nandroid backup (Thank God I backed up!) everything was back to normal.

When you three-finger-boot into ClockworkMod recovery there's a backup/restore and it's called nandroid backup. It works very well backing up everything on your phone system/data/settings, everything.
The custom ROM I have came with the ROM Manager apk (which is run on the phone). It has an option to fix permissions which corrects the file permissions of all of your apps and data for root access in case permissions get corrupted. Sometimes when you install a new mod/zip the file permissions either get corrupted or are not given (I'm no dev, so I don't know the specifics). If you get a lot of ForceCloses this will fix them in most cases.
I don't know exactly what happened, but I'm 99% sure it was from installing this shutdown animation and after restoring (again through CWM3) it works fine now.
Hope that helped.
I booted into CWM right after posting that and found the fix permissions option you were talking about. I had already been performing the nandroid backups, but didn't know they were called that. Thanks for the quick response!
I'm still not able to get the boot animation to work though. The power down worked, and it's pretty cool....anybody got any ideas?
Good looking out bro, This animation always stayed in my Moment as a back up cause I liked it so much.
maybe this...?

That's the same kernel I'm on. Should work just fine, perhaps there is some conflict with the new ViperROM? Haven't tested it on that ROM since I first released this. I know they have lots of modifications, even to the kernel I believe.

You need to have a kernel that supports boot animation chnges. Mammon was the one who did this for 2.1, I believe he was the one who did it for 2.2 as. Well.

hey quick question. i am running the same rom as you (SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2)and when i flashed this i hae random things fc on me as soon as i get into the phone. like mms and email. any ideas ?
So I just successfully rooted my lovely HTC One from Sprint. I've got TWRP 2.6.0.1 on it and all.
I'd REALLY like to get rid of all this garbage on my phone that I'm never going to use, however I also would like to keep it as close to stock as possible. I really enjoy Sense for the most part (minus quirks that I'm willing to live with, and BlinkFeed). I know how/can find out how to load a custom rom - I had CM7 on my HTC EVO 4G (1st Gen) and loved it. But I really don't want to be without Sense.
Can anyone make any suggestions as to what I should do/which rom I should use?

Sorry, I'm overwhelmed at the wealth of knowledge here. Is there a link to the specific one you're talking about? Search didn't do me a ton of good. Though I suppose I could send the guy a message and inquire about his ROM.
Thank you for all your help guys!
Okay so I've decided that I want to try the OMJ ROM. Now here's where I am unsure of exactly how to do it. I see that certain ROMs require different methods. I can't just copy the ZIP to my internal storage and use TWRP to flash it, right? It has to be more complicated than that...
Also, I just went past the return window for the phone so I really cannot afford to brick it. I assume that there's next to no chance of the aforementioned tragedy befalling me providing I stick with the mainstream ROMs?
Most roms are in a flashable format i use the CM 10.2 nightly myself. from what i can tell as long as you can get into the bootloader your safe. I wiped my whole phone SD card and everything accidentally with TWRP one time. Ended up having to use sideload to get a CM rom installed again but i was never in danger of bricking. When flashing roms always remember to do a factory reset to wipe the cache and do an advanced wipe of the data and system. after the rom is installed it will ask you to wipe the cache again which is always nice to do.

No worries, I am new to the unlocking scene too with this device . Those flashable zips will normally have the boot.img files included and when installing twrp will take care of it via the script inside the zip. if you open the zip file with winzip or something you should see that file on the root. TWRP or ClockworkMod recoveries make it really easy to install and backup roms.
flashing the boot.img i guess is for recovery purposes say if the system is in a boot loop. Or maybe if you upgrade the system only and didnt change boot img between two different roms. I personally never had to do this. After unlocking the device i used fastboot to replace the recovery and just do everything else inside the recovery.

Alright, so I've got OMJ's rom running no problem. Love the new feel but what I'm wondering is...is there still a way to delete apps like Stocks and other crap I won't use? I can disable some but not all, and none am I able to uninstall completely.
Would it be something as simple as going into the OMJ ZIP file and removing the unwanted apk files and then re-flashing to that version?

I suppose that could be one way of doing it, but i dont think its necessary. if you are already rooted or can install root easy i would just install a Root file explorer. Browse to the /system/app folder i think it is and delete the APKs from there.

Yeah I tried that with ES explorer AND Root File Manager. ES would have an error, and Root File Manager would simply say it was deleted but it was never actually deleted. I think it has something to do with the security. I'm not really sure, haha! I'm used to being able to just openly delete apps from within Settings>Apps like the old days of my EVO 1st gen.
hmm interesting as long as the /system is mounted as r/w permissions you should be able to delete. well if you are planning on reflashing using the modify zip method im curious to know if that works.

use Root explorer, and set it at r/w
also Titanium Backup will delete it for you too.
If I remember correctly there are a few apps in the play store that are specifically for getting rid of "bloatware".....maybe search bloatware removal, our uninstall bloatware something like that. Hopefully this helps!

It's very doubtful you will have success with Romtoolbox either once you reboot all the apps will return
In order to flash this ROM please make sure you have the following:
Nerves of Steel
Root
TWRP 2.6.3.2
A Current Backup
A clear knowledge of how to go back to stock
Disclaimer: Though I have flashed this ROM on my own device with no issues, and it has been beta tested there is no guarantee that yours will behave the same way. It is possible to hard brick your phone while flashing custom ROMs, and I take no responsibility if this happens to you. Please be aware that this is the first public release of this ROM, and has only been tested on a handful of devices. Further, this a ROM made for the Verizon G2 variant, and flashing it on any other version could be disastrous. Proceed at your own risk.
Installation steps:
1. Boot the phone into the TWRP recovery using ADB.
2. Choose "Wipe", then use the slider to start a system restore. This will take 5-10 minutes. (This step should be optional, but I have not tested it without wiping /data, feel free to test, but expect problems and be pleasantly surprised if they don't occur.)
3. Back out to the main menu.
4. Choose "Install"
5. Select "Blackhole_G2_Stock_1.0.zip" from your internal memory.
6. Confirm by using the slider. This will take 5-15 minutes, possibly longer. Do not attempt to reboot your phone or cancel the flash in any way.
7. Choose "Reboot System"
Please E-mail me or post here with any feedback, suggestions, and especially problems you have with the Rom.
Features:
Built on Stock Rooted base by scrosler
Zipaligned
Odexed, since this phone is a pain to deodex and no one has done it yet...
Stripped of almost everything but the bare essentials. As a rule, anything you can get from the play store is gone. Most LG apps are gone. All Verizon apps except mobile hotspot are gone. See screenshot.
Includes the Mobile Hotspot with provisioning removed for free tethering (thanks to WACOMalt for posting)
This ROM is a Clean Rom that is just the first step toward the final goal of an Aroma based installer that will allow you to build your own ROM with whatever features and mods you want. Since no Clean ROM is available yet I thought I'd release just the base for the people who want something lightweight and stable to flash.
KNOW ISSUES:
- If you wipe data when you install (and I suggest you do) you will get an error when you click through the setup wizard, but just continue and you'll be able to complete it.
- In some cases it may ask you to install the Google Play Services, go ahead and do so.
- The Qvoice has been removed, but the shortcut when you drag up and to the left from home is still there for now. It simply does nothing.
- The Help app is included only to disable the annoying popups. All other features of the help app except the icon glossary will cause the app to crash.
Download:
Version 1.0
Missing app installers:
(Coming soon) Copy these to your internal memory and flash via TWRP to restore stock apps that have been removed. Please post if there's something you need back and can't wait for the final version to have it.

I put together a package that will let you easily create your own flashable packages for the Verizon LG G2. All you have to do is grab any apps you are missing and want to add back from the Stock Rooted ROM provided by scrosler. Open the .zip on your computer using 7zip or your archive manager of choice. Place all the .apk and .odex files you want to flash to your phone in the /system/app folder inside the zip file. you can rename this whatever you want. Anyone can feel free to use this to package any mods/apps/themes as well, just create the appropriate folders under the /system folder like /framework or /media.

AWESOME! Cant wait to try. When you say LG apps are removed, are you removing functionality like knock-on? Or just things like quick remote/Qslide?
Nice job. Good to see this. Will try later. Thanks.

All the LG features, gestures and functionality are left in. Knock-on, Quickwindow, Quickmemo, Qslide, Slide-aside, etc. all work as intended. The LG apps is the stuff like notebook, quick translate, quick remote, email, qvoice etc. Stuff you can get better versions of from the market, or that not everyone uses. In the final rom I'll have them all available to add back, but for now I tried to make it as clean as possible without affecting any of the extra features that LG provides. And if I've removed something that a majority of people want back it can always be added in the next version.
Thanks for this, I remember you from my Fascinate days!
~2.5GB down to 1.04GB....thats a helluva de-bloat!

It needed to be. OG droid ROMs used to be no more than 200MB, now were looking at 10 - 15 times that and it's just crazy. Who wants to download and copy a 2 gig file to their phone? But with Aroma that's what it will end up being. I'd so much rather use Rom Manager like on the fascinate, so you only download what you want, but then you're downloading over a gig straight to the phone. Oh well.

First three I hid myself. Tasks and Weather will be optional in the final build.
Not sure if you want requests or not, but do you plan on adding features like:
- Black/Transparent nav and status bar
- Removal of location icon
- Remove AM/PM - Do you know if this one is possible?
- AOSP status bar icons
I am on the other VZW rooted rom in the same section of XDA this rom is in with TWRP recovery. I am not on the latest TWRP recovery. After I get on the latest recovery, do I wipe factory reset, clear caches and flash like it was with the GNex? I just really do not want to have to worry about bootlooping and such. This looks like the rom I am looking for.....thanks, I appreciate any helpful responses..
That's a good question. It is the stock ROM essentially

yes, those features are intended to be an optional part of the final product. I just wanted to release something people could flash for an easy debloat now. Since this is a stock based rom built off the OTA, any mods that work with the OTA should work with this ROM, I just haven't tested them yet. I am not much of a modder, but I intend to add available mods to the Aroma installer for the final ROM, with permission of the creator of course.

Once you have flashed the latest version of TWRP, I do recommend wiping data and cache. This should notbe necessary, but I haven't done enough testing to say for sure. If you have opened and used apps on stock that have been removed in the ROM, it's difficult to say what dependencies they may have created. If you are concerned about getting a bootloop, then wipe. If you are prepared to restore to stock with the link in the OP, then go ahead and don't wipe and hope for the best. Again, it should work, but I haven't had anyone test it yet.
And ultimately, if you're on the latest version of TWRP, I believe they fixed the issues with booting into recovery with the hardware buttons, so if you do get caught in a bootloop you should be able to enter TWRP and restore a backup. Someone please correct me if I misunderstood this, "2.6.3.2 removes /misc from the recovery.fstab which prevents factory reset when you use the key combo to enter recovery."

Is the LG filesystem any different from the filesystem on the Gnex?
If not, Ive had great success using the Android Revolution SuperWipe script before flashing a ROM. I add it as the first zip in the queue on TWRP and it handles wiping all of the caches/data/system
If I know for sure it will work on the G2 Id be happy to provide a dropbox link.
Works great but it force closed on the initial install when i tried to do the email part and the stock email app is not there otherwise so far so good
Glad to see it posted! Still running great for me, thanks again!

I don't have a Gnex handy to confirm but I'm almost certain the partitions would be different. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you need the stock Email I'll have it available in a flashable package listed in the OP later tonight.
