Back to original voicemail - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried Google Voicemail after I flashed my first ROM. I hate it and got rid of it, now my problem is, it is still synced to my phone and I do not know how to get my old voicemail number to manually enter it into my phone to reset it back to normal.
Please help! lol

grab your phone. open the dial pad. and type 611 and talk to customer care.
Each area's voicemail number should be different. So, either google search it. or call customer care, tell them you were fiddling with it, and cant remember what it is. 611 is a free call.
Mods please close thread.

Thank you.

Phone rings twice and sends to voicemail.

The caller on the other end says it rings all the way through (5 rings and then to voicemail).
It has done this with several ROM's, the stock HTC cupcake, to JF 1.5, JACHero, and now I am on cyanogen's 3.62 ROM. The radio is 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I.
The phone will do this even with a clean wipe. No apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Check your call forwarding settings. Sometimes, they like to play with themselves and set it as "forward all calls to voicemail". These settings won't show it, because the changes are on the T-Mobile server, not your phone. Only having 2 rings sounds like it connects to the network and then gets pushed away from it, so most likely it's not a problem with your phone.
If you happen to have an old T-Mobile phone laying around, trying switching SIM cards and see if anything changes.
Figured it out. Ran a GSM code
*61*1[vm access number]*11*n#
n= seconds before forwarding. Set it to 25 and it rings all the way through.
Thanks for the info lukekirstein

Where would you run this code at? I want to be able to set my ring time longer so that it takes longer for it to forward to voicemail.

Open up your dialer and dial it like you would a phone number.
In my case I entered *61*18056377243*11*25# and dial. Runs the code and then in a few seconds it is done. But check to see if your voicemail number is different than mine.

Cool, was able to set the Voicemail to connect in 35 seconds. Thanks!
I get the error:
Call forwarding.
Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
I've carefully entered the code three times, always get the same reply.
I checked my voicemail number, and it's correct.
Any ideas?

What are you trying to do?
Trying to get my phone to wait 20-30 seconds before going to voicemail.
I get, maybe, 2 rings before people are transferred. If my finger isn't already on the button, chances are I can't answer the phone.
These are the codes I tried (as per the instructions above):
*61*18056377243*11*20# (for 20 secs) -and-
*61*18056377243*11*25# (not to go to voicemail)
18056377243 is my voicemail number.
Neither worked.

Are you on a flex pay account? Also, you should only need one 1 MMS number, because that's the immediate point it re-routes to voicemail.
re Flexpay, to be honest, I'm not 100% sure. The wife set all of this up before we were married and we've just continued it. I seem to recall a mention of something like that, but I could very well be wrong.
I'm assuming that this option wouldn't be available to FP customers. Would 611 be able to make a change to fix it? The 2 ring thing is seriously causing problems on this end.
TIA

Call forwarding is not available to flex pay customers and thus, custom MMS coding will not work. If this is the case, you should contact T-Mobile (either way, probably a good idea) and talk to them to see what might be causing the problem.
What ROM are you using? Some of the slower ROMS can create dialer lag.
Asked my wife. It is Flexpay. So that solves that.
Thank you so much for your reply.
That got us going in the right connection.
I am using Cyan's rom right now. But this was the way it was ever since we got into any 'Cupcake" versions (OTA or modded). My thoughts are the radio or a tower issue, but that's an uneducated guess. I rarely get phone calls anytime except when I'm home, so it's hard to pinpoint. So I followed your suggestion and tried to call 611 a short while ago. Got through to CS who walked me through some stuff (their basic scripted thing, all of which I've already tried), and it didn't work. So they tried to send me to tech support, and I guess it was either to late or they couldn't connect for whatever reason, so I have to call back in the morning.
Thanks again for heading me in the right direction.

[Q] Kaiser ROM Flash Erased Voicemail Number

Howdy, folks. Asking this question for a friend who flashed a ROM on a Kaiser and now she can't access voicemail. I tried entering what I *thought* was the right number, but we get prompted to enter the password, which isn't right. Used to go directly to VM where she could pick up messages. Can anyone help? I tried searching on various terms but there doesn't seem to be a right answer.
Thanks!
Bump. Anyone?

Bump. Still need some help here. Again, I've entered the AT&T voicemail number, but we're still being prompted to enter the password, rather than it delivering the first message automatically. Any ideas?

That's happened to me twice now.
The phone is supposed to download the right number automatically but it DLs the wrong one instead.
Call AT&T and just ask them what YOUR voicemail number should be. That number changes depending on your area.
Good luck

You said alot but none of it was telling us anything we would need yo help you. You gave no information on your rom, kernel, radio, new apps installed, rooted, unrooted.
Please guys/gals. If you need help please provided the needed info to help you. Without it posts like this are useless and will not get help.

Call them up and tell them your texts aren't working. Probably a setting on their side.
Ironically, my problem is totally opposite; I can send texts, but can't receive. A friend is telling me there are problems with the AT&T Network themselves, though. :/
Seems lately ATT's networks have been ****ting themselves. Dropped calls left and right and texts that wont send. Just my experience in last two weeks.
i called rogers and it turns out there was a number missing in the message cent #... but now i can only text with the stock app not handscent... probably gonna try uninstalling and reinstalling
that didnt work and NONE of the text msging apps will send text they all fail (handcen, chomp, pansi, gosms) but the stock app will...

Check call center number is correct in mms app settings and also apn settings. Both of these are carrier dependant... so ensure you are using your carriers settings.

@lownox thanks again for your help the other nightits been working great, I actually had to do the same thing to my wifes cappy, which oddly enough I was running the very same setup on her phone flawlessly before she loaned it to her sister. ?
try to reset your phone
for rogers the fix is: *#*#4636#*#* click on phone info, scroll down to smsc, type in +17057969300, click update, if this doesnt work on your phone put sim into another rogers phone an update it that way

Try sending the text 'Allow all' without the parentheses to 9999

Tried. Didnt seem to have worked. any more suggestions?
If the "allow all" text didn't work, and using a sense rom to update prl/profile doesn't work - I would suggest downloading the RUU and reverting completely back to stock. See if it works then, if it does root with z4 or w/e you like and go back to the rom/nandroid you had before.
if it doesn't work call sprint or bring it in to one of their stores
Also, just wondering; you do have plenty of free space on your phone right? People seem to get really weird problems when their phone is running low on internal storage.
And do you use google voice for voicemail?
And what, if anything, did you do at or around the time it started acting up? (ie installed new apps, flashed new kernel, etc.)
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
Question1: Yeah i have plenty of space no apps installed.
Question2:Yeah i use google voice. but is not set up right now since i just rooted.
Question3: First noticed no messages being received when i rooted i believe.
Guess illl try to the RUU and see if that works.
Used RUU. Still not being able to receive messages. going to have to contact Sprint.
Try useing a different RUU if your going to doit again, see if that works...just a thought. Later

I have been having problems receiving texts as well ever since I installed a new ROM (this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090234) 2 days ago.
All functions seem to work fine, including outgoing text messages, but incoming do not work at all.
I had been running Cyanogen Mod 6 for about a year without any problems except speed, just wanted to try a newer and possibly faster ROM. I did have issues whenever I would get a "low space" indicator but that doesn't seem to be the case with the current issue.
I am using Google Voice for voicemail.
My service provider is Cellular South, btw, not Sprint.
Ran the RUU but still didnt work. so i updated to newest build and still didnt work. still havent had a chance to call Sprint.

Problem Solved. Since sprint merged with google my settings where changed and were set to receive text messages to google voice and not my phone. If anyone else has this problem just go to your account in google voice settings and make sure that theres a check mark next to receive text to phone. thanks to all for the help =)

That didn't work for me
Of course, I'm not on Sprint, but Cellular South. Still no joy on my end. I actually reverted back to my previous CyanogenMod via Nandroid, which WAS receiving text messages just fine, but now it doesn't work either.
I have the original Cell South 2.1 RUU I could use if necessary, but hoping not to have to do that. Looking like I might have to, though.
Finally got it up and running.
I was about to run the 2.1 RUU but then remembered I made a Nandroid backup of my 2.1 Sense-based config before the first time I rooted so I restored to it and dialed *228 to download the latest updates. The texts then started working, so then I reverted back to my Nandroid backup of my new ROM and it worked like a charm!

Google Voice Integration Issues

So I got my one, when it was being activated in the store there was an error of some sort and it came down to a google voice issue. It was eventually fixed after a number of calls but I left with it working. I came home and loaded it up with my apps and re activated google voice so i can text from the web etc etc. It worked for a while but now my phone cannot make and recieve calls and texts, I only have data,
I called sprint last night they told me to wait until 2pm today even though he did not know what the issue was....its very fristrating, I get some recorded message from a guy saying that the number i called is not in service when I just called that number from another phone.
Has anyone else had any issues like this?
I would try disabling the integration on voice.Google.com and re enabling it once you confirm your phone works properly without it. I'm integrated and have never had this issue.

I'm not the most knowledgeable on this but Im about 99.9 percent sure there's no way either could cause your problem. Its something with the service programming either on googles end or sprints end.
This may be somewhat helpful I use Google voice for my voicemail.when I installed and provisioned it at the last step it gave me an error and said it could not save numbers but it does work!

I would de-integrate then call up Sprint and have them push a hands free activation to your phone. Wait 30 minutes then try re-integrating with Google Voice. I know this error happened frequently in the beginning with accounts that were integrated and then they switched phones without de-integrating first. I use the Sprint-GV integration and its why whenever I switch phones, I always de-integrate first, activate the new phone, then re-integrate with GV. Hope you get it figured out soon.
Thanks for the input. You guys were on the right track. My third hour long call got to the issue. Seemingly my phone wasn't fully provisioned and it was a network error but my activation of Google voice kicked my network completely out of sync. Still all a little strange but I'm back up and running. Hopefully when I re enable gvoice I won't get the same error. I was also told the first two people I spoke with should of seen this....I guess you gotta be lucky with who you get on the phone.
