So iPad 2 is out MARCH 11 next week and has the same prices they are also just attacking Android for being copycats too
But there you have it
It also has the two cameras, 33% thinner (like a piece of paper), dual core, mirrored hdmi out, two colors (black and white), and a case that is more of a "cover". It looks like they are trying to copy android tablets...
You need an extra $39 cable to get hdmi out? That is soooo Apple!!

yepp i thought it was funny the app jab with the honeycomb logo compared to a device that has been out for a full year already, and then the jab on prices i thought was legit
whats it matter what its price or power?the cpu and gpu look great, but whats it matter?they will require backwards compatibility with the old ipad, and the ipad lacks a true os that a tablet for a power user needs
Sweet! The iOS looks the same! All those app icons. Intuitive!
Seems to me, aside from the thickness, Apple has copied most of the new Android Tablet features...dual core, hdmi, front facing camera...I'm sorry but copycat much?
This is not an ipad forum...

The iPad with 2 cameras and dual core, I wonder who's copying who?

Yeah I'm watching. I hope this is the last overly smug announcement for a tablet I have to watch. Here's to hoping this pushes Google and manufacturers a bit.
And yes, I know I don't have to watch. They're always fun to watch, the tone just gets me.

In relation to the Xoom, it is relevant. It's a good way to compare and contrast features. If you don't like it, don't reply or become involved. It's that simple. I'm not seeing anything that blows the Xoom away so far and I'm happy that I decided on the Xoom. Relax Bauxite.

The only thing I like so far is the 1.3 pound weight. Other than that, it is still the same OS which is why I went with the Xoom.

But the device starts at $499. The Xoom is $799 as its only price point. I think its a joke too, but its still cheaper by an extreme amount lol.
This is really sad. At first we said that the Motorola Xoom has to be expensive because of the components. This is completely debunked by the fact that the iPad 2 just launched 1 week later with a dual-core processor, the same storage, 2 cameras, and crafted from aluminum, for $499.
Not to mention that there is no software R&D in Motorolas price, they didn't have to buy Honeycomb. Its just sad that motorola can only release for $799, even the announced wifi version is gonna be $599. How can you release with the same specs for $100+ more than the iPad version?
I'm by far NOT an Apple fanboy, but Motorola is gonna have to slash these prices or they're not going to sell 1million Xooms this year. We're gonna have to see the Xoom down to match or be under the iPad 2 prices or its GG Moto imho.

Yep, me too. I'm not going to buy an iPad, but its A LOT harder to buy the Xoom for $799 when I know they're just straight stealing from me for the price of the components. TBH this means that I'm re-thinking waiting on the Xoom literally because I know they must drop the price to get any real sales numbers. I guarantee their numbers were bad before, but they're gonna be even worse now.
Apple sure knows how to put on a show and get people excited, though! Thinner, lighter, same battery life, same price... same accessibility limitations but it is making people drool...

Right. I'm sure if there was a WiFi only, 16GB Xoom, we'd be looking at $499.99 too. The "equivalent" Xoom is 32GB, WiFi for $599.99. The iPad is cheaper because it has options, as far as hardware configuration goes.

And while the Xoom Wifi only version in still not available, the iPad 2 will be available March 11th... makes it harder to wait for Moto especially since Apple also has more experience having successfully launched the first iPad.
So Amazon now has the WiFi only 7" Dell Streak going for $299.00. Couple that with the $349.00 WiFi Galaxy tab and, perhaps more significantly, the $399.00 Asus Transformer and it looks to me like long overdue sanity has started to make its way into Android tablet pricing.
I just hope the HTC Flyer hits the $350.00 mark some time in the not too distant future. I'd love a good 7" tablet with a usable pen for doodling.
There're so many Android devices available now that's getting difficult to decide on one in particular. Regarding the Dell Streak I don't like the low display resolution (800x480). In my case, I've high hopes for the new Galaxy Tab 8.9" (wifi only, a little bit bigger) but it's unknown the release date yet.
The prices are going down, I read an article a few days ago were it said that the 10" tablets that cost $500 nowdays in two/three years will cost around $300.

I'd go one further and say that tablets that two or three years from now an entry-level state of the art tablet will run $300.00 (or maybe that's what the article meant).
This is definitely a FANTASTIC device in the market as of today. But I wonder why samsung reduced its price sooooo much?
Its just a little higher than s2 so obviously people will opt for Note than s2 (if size doesn't matter to them).
But where is the catch? I mean why they suddenly reduced Note's price THAT MUCH? From 800+ US dollars to 500+? Isn't that "to good to be true" deal?
I wonder what's samsung motive behind reducing Note's price.
a) Have they started making models with cheaper material now to fit in the latter price?
b) They reduced the price to justify their huge predicted target sales for Note?
c) Wanted people to stop buying s2 so that Note can get the lime light?
d) Reduced price so that people go for Note and by the time when enough sales have been made, they will lauch s3.
Marketing strategy. I went to buy S2 but there was lil difference in price so I bought Note, don't regret it.
When S3 is released Nexus, Note and S2 will be even cheaper.

Hmm. Point no. C.
samsung wants the note to be competitive with the quad cores.
Its just because its getting older, it will just keep going down in price now until they stop making them.
You actually have no idea WHO has reduced the price... you make an assumption that it is Samsung.. but it is just that, an assumption.
I would expect that the phones are somewhat cheaper to manufacturer now, given that there has been 8 months for yield improvement, but there is no evidence or reason for this itself to be reflected in the asp (average selling price).. Samsung should, if they at all possibly can, use any yield enhancement cost benefits to boost their margin, not support lower wholesale prices.
Resellers are in business to make money, and the general nature of value items like the Note is to milk the market at the highest price possible, then gradually reduce the price as interest falls to keep the sales volume high on a weekly/monthly basis .. ultimately, the low price is set by wholesale + minimum margin...
So, the pricing curve of the Note is highly typical of most other consumer devices like phones selling in high volume.

But is Note competitive enough to compete with the incoming Quad Core phones?
Simple: Product Cycle Theory
First level was attracting the "I must have it quickly cause its the latest technology" type of costumers with heavy advertising program. They sold enough to this type of consumers with high prices. Advertising and R&D costs have been gained by these costumers. Then they realized that sells are getting slower. Second level started. With lower prices attracting leftover costumers. They dont have to put high prices cause they already gained R&D costs. With low production costs (New Average Cost= Average Total Cost - Average R&D Cost - Average Ads Cost) profits are coming again with increased sales. They will release Quadcore SGS3 soon and a new product cycle will begin. After a while SGN will pass to third level "downfall" Sorry for this boring information I couldnt stop myself
I have master degree in marketing
everything drops, new tech comes out making the older stuff, like the note go down in value to be able to compete in the market
I think smart money is on a note 2 or note plus being announced soon and they're vacating the price point that the new note will occupy.

good question
was £515 when I bought it, over 6 months ago. Is now £410 from the same site. seems normal amount of price drop to me.
Simple laws of supply and demand
Simple economics 101...supply and demand. It was a way overpriced phone to begin with. The actually technology that went into this phone probably costs no more than 200-250 dollars to manufacture. It originally sold at nearly 900 dollars. That's what...a 400% mark up? Outrageous.

I doubt they would be launching Note 2 anywhere soon.
i paid $880AU for my note in november last year.
now i can pick one up for $510AU.
htc have a quad core phone for around $570 for the same site, so no one would ever buy a note if it cost more than the htc one x.
plus, samsung announced the s3 in 2 days time.

Although Samsung has tried its best to create a new category (Phablet) by bringing NOTE into the market. But still people will compare it with current available mobile phones in market to build their decision for a purchase. This will only change once more phablets start entering the market from competition, only then can the comparison between phablets start.
Newegg has it right now for $499, or a bundle with a BT headset for $515 and a $20 MIR.

What's the procdeure to purchase goods from Newegg?
And how do one pays? as in, online or Cash-on-delivery?
If you are paying online and upon delivery the product turns out to be faulty or not good.. What to do then? Replace?
As with on delivery, you have upper hand that if the product didnt turn out to be good or the one you ordered.. you can easily refuse to accept it.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57528352-94/google-to-co-brand-10-inch-nexus-tablet-with-samsung/
Sounds logical. Samsung has the hi-res display, and Goog needs to get out of the low-rent district. I'm pegging it at $499, same price as iPad. Since it's Samsung, we can fill in the SoC blank and say quad-Exynos, as this would show up early next year if rumor is true.
Richard Shim bud has proven accurate for the iPad & iPad Mini rumors, so I give him some creds.
Also mention of a $99 tablet. Can't imagine its specs. 7", 800x480, 1GB RAM, 8GB flash?

I think this is the first post in this forum.
Definitely would like at least 32 GB. Leaning more towards the 8.4". We have a 10" tablet, and it is just too big to use one handed. And by use, I mean hold.
The weight of both tablet is relatively low. The AMOLED screen makes for a thin tablet. The ahead-of-its-time GT-P6800 7.7 tablet is amazingly thin and solid. It's still a good tablet for media playing and web surfing.
I just pre ordered the 10.5 32gb version from Best buy, I wonder how they pulled the exclusive with the 32gb. I'm in the process of putting some sample files on a flash drive to test on one of the display models. Best buy also has the bronze and white book covers for 39.99 rather than 69.99. Glad I decided to wait for the release and didn't open my Note Pro, it's already on it's way back to Samsung.
Edit: So I went and tested two video files at the local Best Buy, Pacific Rim 1080p 12gb mkv high encoding 19 quality and Timescapes mp4 2560x1440. The picture on this tablet is amazing especially the nature scenes in the Timescapes file. The stock player was able to player both files with no skips or jitters.
I pre ordered the 8.4 from Future Shop (Canada). I am keeping my Note Pro 12.2 as my home unit, the 8.4 as my traveler (Read in bed) and Nexus 5 as my phone. I have no problems with a 16 gig unit. I used the savings and bought a 64 gig microsd. After being burned by Samsung in the past ie.. software updates and coming from a Nexus background I was hesitant to purchase the 12.2 but I have to admit that it has been a nice experience. The first tablet I haven't bothered to root. I think the 8.4 will be even better. Of course I will be keeping my eyes on this year's Google IO conference just in case they mythical Google 8 is announced. I just need to find a case and glass screen protector.
I am really tempted by this new tab
Especially since I sold my Nexus 7 2013 FHD, I really would like to replace that with the new 8.4 Tab S. I miss reading books and browsing the web on my couch or bed. I don't really care for the aesthetics mainly due to the placement of the buttons, it's just weird having the phone layout of buttons on a huge tablet, I prefer to have them on the sides of the device. Not a deal breaker though. I'm just torn on whether to buy this 8.4 through amazon as I have a gift card there for 300 bucks or save a little more and wait for the new Nexus 8 or Nexus 10 if they ever announce them. I have a galaxy note 3 and being a phablet I thought it would be sufficient enough in size to not miss my nexus 7 but I was wrong. The one thing I hate about Samsung is the bloatware and difficulty in rooting the device due to knox and voiding the warranty. I'd prefer to wait for a tablet using either the tegra 4 K1(32 bit) chip or the tegra k1 (64 bit) chip because the games on it would be fabulous, but like I said I am just itching to replace my tablet I dearly miss and this samsung galaxy tab S looks very promising...Woe me
for some reason the smartwatches here in bahrain and saudi are more expensive than in the US but the phones and phablets are cheaper, wonder which range this tab s prices will be here
I preordered this online on bestbuy (in canada) because when I went to do it in stores their system didn't let them help me. is this normal? anyway if you preorder from bestbuy canada they give you the folio case for free as well I believe and theres a lexar 64gb thats on sale for 70 bucks off until the 19th...
Noticed BestBuy, Futureshop, Staples in Canada all bumped their dates back to July 4th right away. Was saying June 26 for the first day or two. Amazon still says June 26.
I wonder if it will get bumped again. I've had horrible experience ordering online from bestbuy and futureshop. I'd try staples next if they had the free cover offer too.
I ordered the 10.5 white from Samsung store for $499, including Samsung's book cover case worth $69.99 as a gift... They promised 1 July delivery.

I started my tablet buying addiction with Chinese tablets - lol. I have owned a number of Chinese tablets , TV sticks and TV boxes. My advice is to save yourself a lot of grief and buy a name brand tablet from a recognized retailer. There are a number of issues to consider. 1) The RK3288 looks like a good chip but Rockchip is notorious for producing buggy versions of Android. I know I currently own two Rockchip devices and if it wasn't for a dedicated user base debugging and producing custom ROM's, the devices would be useless. 2) If your tablet has a hardware defect you would have to ship it all the way back to China - usually at your own expense. It could take months to get it sorted out. 3) Chinese manufacturers tend not to support devices once they are originally released and since these Chinese tablets don't usually appear on XDA you are left on your own. 4) Many Chinese Companies quickly disappear for no notice. 5) You'll be kicking yourself for not spending that extra money for that great Tab S display.
If you do by Chinese then Geekbuying is a reliable place. They have always been good to me.
Hope this help,
D

I just bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. It's really nice and I actually like the S-Pen more than I thought I would... however, I'm thinking of returning it to get a Tab S instead.
From what I see, the specs are really close between the two tablets. Main differences appear to be the AMOLED screen and slightly thinner/lighter Tab S ... but then I lose the S-Pen. Both AMOLED and scLCD screens seem to perform nicely, so that's a matter of preference I guess. I have a Galaxy S5 and the scLCD on the Note side-by-side to my S5 AMOLED screen looks pretty close.
Thoughts? Do you think the Tab S will be that much better than something like the Note 2014?
Thanks
