You posted the same question 11 minutes in another new thread. How about being a bit patient and allowing the clever people time to get out of bed before double posting.
You're right
You're right, I did impatiently post the same question again. It seemed that nobody was even visiting the thread, and I figured a better suited subject would draw more readers. I apologize for my impatience and will read the forums to see if there is a way to edit your post Subject.
Thanks
I was browsing on the forums and I came up with people complaining more about people not using the search than helping.
I'm just guessing but I would say that there is about a 2:1 (for every 1 non-search thread there is about on average 2 people in the thread complaining about not searching) ratio of complainers to clueless people. It seems people spend more time complaining about people not searching then just helping out. Why waste posts complaining about searching.
So for all you search nazis plz settle down, help out and move on.
For people who don't live on the forums its not as easy as you make it out to be to find everything. I agree people need to atleast try.
Rant over

1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

You needed a second member complaining, to get the 2 to 1 ratio.
I'm here to help you: go search a bit.
On a more serious note: yes you are right. That's why I read the forums I'm interested, and only post on Off-Topic forum.

So my post wasn't help full? Then steer me in the right direction. How could I help a pushy arrogant person that ignores rule #1 and is also to lazy too use google or the integrated free xda search engine with many options?
good day.
the main problem is there is that many crap useless threads being made daily it does make it harder to search so i can see where some people cant get the searching bit working, Like if you are new here you're first language isn't English and you need to search you're going to struggle;e, yes i agree a little searching should be made first, what really bugs me is please help thread titles that doesnt help at all, at lest lie and said you are struggling using the search make it look like you have made an effort
I understand with you guys about searching I'm not trying to down that. Just the fact it seems counter productive with all the posts about "omg SEARCH first omg!!"
Sorry this was just a rant from yesterday and why I did it in "Off topic". I'm over it now lol. Back to learning how to root.

I no exactly what you mean I am guilty of saying it to people, but like in my previous post i can see both sides lol
First off, I apologize if I come off as "noobish". I joined this site about 10 minutes ago. Anyway, last week I left my Samsung Captivate unattended (like the drunken fool I am), someone guessed my pattern too many times and now I'm at the "too many pattern attempts" screen and of course I do not have a Google account. From my understanding, after readin some threads on here, one of the solutions is to use the ODIN program to flash the phone, is that correct? And also, is there any possible way, via ODIN or some other program, for me to view my text messages before I flash it and lose everything? I would very much like to know the contents of the texts I've been receiving all week. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this, and perhaps help me out.
The too many pattern attempts only locks the phone for a set time. Sounds to me like you "found" a phone that you want help with. Why not take it to at&t and have them return it or ask them for assistance if you are indeed the rightful owner.
I can assure you I'm the righful owner. I left my phone unattended at a party and my fantastic friends tried guessin my pattern too many times. I'm now stuck at a screen where you have to enter your Google account. Like a dumbass I didn't create a Google account when I first purchased the phone. So now I'm locked out of my phone for good. And I've already been to AT&T. We tried the hard reset, and just does not work and they won't give me a new phone.
**** flashed with Odin and create a new Google acc or call art and said that u lost the phone and paid those 125 but u still can keep the phone u have now and sell it truogh Craigslist or some place like that !

I dont believe that anyone uses a android phone without making a google account.
So you've NEVER gone to the android market? That's the first thing anyone does that has a Droid phone.

Damn...........Who would have thought that.......
There are ways around this.........OP I don't think your going to get any help here.......
So just get on a computer and create a Google gmail account. It does not have to be created by your phone. Once you have created your account, you can then enter your gmail ID when the phone prompts for it.
But I agree. Something is fishy with this story.

So its going to verify whatever he puts in there to a "blank" file, it won't match The point of entering the Gmail account is a second means of verification, if there is no account registered to the phone, it won't work.
His best bet is to return the phone to its owner.....the dead give away that it is not his, is that he has not had it for a week...who can go a week without their Captivate?

I haven't posted because I have been quite busy with work and school. I have accessed the Market before. But it never asked me to create a Google Account. Not that I remember anyway. I wish there was a way for me to prove to y'all I am very sincere about my situation. I really do need help with this. It is true, I have been locked outta my phone for over a week now and it is drivin me crazy. But I'm explorin other options that doesn't cost money, like the ODIN program, that was what I really wanted to know about. Anyway, judgin by all the post, I'm some evil asshole tryin to get into someone else's phone. Which, I guess, is somewhat understandable, and with y'all not knowin me or me not bein able to show proof of my sincerity, I guess I can't be too upset about the accusations. I guess, I will just download the ODIN program, try to find some steps on how to use it and see if I can't mess my phone up even more.
There's a freaking thread dedicated to odin in the dev forum. Read search comprehend.
And there is no way at all that you used the market without a google account.

I think you are straight up lying. dude, att isn't going to just say "sorry, can't help you" if its really your phone. plus, Google account creation is (almost) unsurpassable when you insert sim card for first time. please tell us how you used market without Google account because im pretty sure its more secure than that(especially for situations like the one you brought here).
if its truly your phone, go to att tomorrow, give them the last four of your social security no. and they will be more than happy to reset your phone.
btw none of the people who use XDA frequently have ever come across someone who hasn't created a Google account for market use.

So, why was my thread closed but other people get the opportunity to have someone help them, even if it was an (so you say) obvious answer?

Moderator closed your thread probably because a simple search on the forum about htc one kernel should had be enough to find your answer.
Maybe you should start by reading the OP of some kernel threads like elementalx, bulletproof, teamseven etc....
and im sure you'll find an asnwer in like 5 min.
hope it help
I'll try again but I've never been successful searching in xda - only with Google. And the Google search I did only referenced a sense kernel. Hence my question. But I will read and search. Thank you for replying although I still don't understand why my thread was closed when so many others are not!

if you don't want to use the search bar, just go at the root of the htc one forum then click on the ''kernel'' tab. All kernel should be listed there

It did and you were right. I thought it would be rather haphazard to just start reading kernel OPs but once I ruled out the sense kernels (including the first two you named) I was able to find TeaMSeven which did the trick. I'm a happy camper and I appreciate your help and advice!!
Btw, I was hesitant to flash a kernel without being really familiar with it and the Rom I'm using because, in my experience, developers do not support alternate kernels and I didn't want problems. But in this case my desire to have a menu button overrode all caution.

it's cause you're using a mobile app, you need to switch to web-view or use a real browser to see the signatures.

Unfortunately http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=xda (from your sig) only gives me "Network Error", any other place to see that search engine.
Oh, and at OP, you can always use google, but in the search box, add "site:http://forum.xda-developers.com" that will give you results only from xda forums.

In terms on answering your original question which was regarding the HTC logo as a menu option there are a number of custom kernels that offer this feature along with other features
Here are two examples to get you going.
[KERNEL] [Jan 6] ElementalX 11.4 10.10.1 8.4
[KERNEL] [Dec 15] Bulletproof | S2W | L2M | DT2W | BLN

Hi All,
So yesterday I disabled a bunch of Samsung's junk on my AT&T S5. Last night I turned my phone off. This morning when I turned it on the boot screen comes up with an open lock and the word custom. I know on my Nexus 5 and 7 when the boot loader is unlocked it shows the open lock. I wanted to post this in Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root but it said I don't have enough post to put it there. This can't mean the bootloader is unlocked? That would be way to easy. Are there any Dev's reading this thread that could comment? Or could anyone link this post in Chainfire's thread for CF-Auto-Root to see what he says?

Sorry wouldn't let me post a link, so I put the underscores replacing the two dots. Hope that dosen't violate any rules bypassing it that way.

Just seems weird to show an open lock for just disabling some apps...lol
While that is strange, there is a setting inside the dev menu that causes the phone to show the custom screen, I believe it's the runtime option.

It's fine. The reason I pointed you to the thread is that there is some information that has already been discussed about the issue that you might have missed out on. It's OK to learn about things and ask questions, it's just that so many people miss out on great information that already exists. To be honest, XDA's search feature isn't very reliable, so if you run into problems you can always use Google and type in your search criteria and end it with XDA to get a lot of XDA results directly from Google. Believe me, it will save you a lot of time and aggravation down the road.
