Yeah that will be fine. If u don't like the theme or sumthing goes wrong you can restore from recovery/Rom Manager

Can someone please confirm my understanding below :
1. If I back up my apps + apps data + system data while on a particular ROM then I can restore all apps and data if I am on the same ROM. Right?
2. If I move to a different ROM then I can just do restore missing apps with data. Right?
3. If I flash a different theme on a particular ROM then can I perform a full restore if the back up was made on the same ROM but a.different theme? Example : I backed up all data on continuum Version 4 themed. I flashed crysis theme on continuum version 4. Then, can I restore the back up (all data) on crysis themed ROM. The ROM is same here. Someone please help me with this. Thanks

No problem. I posted it here because the question is TiBu and it's functionality related to captivate. That is the reason I.posted it on captivate general forum. Cool with moving to a more appropriate thread

Hello,
first of all, I am a total xda-noob (as told by the video) and my deeper Android knowledge is quite small.
Well, I'm seriouly considering to put the Cyanogen mod on my phone and now I have a question about going back to the stock ROM. I've made a backup of the stock ROM using Clockworkmod Recovery and this made seven files which can be seen in the added image. Now I'm wondering how I can go back to the stock ROM if CM doesn't fit me. I know I have to restore the backup in recovery mode but I think I'm right if I say this isn't enough. Can someone tell what to do exactly, as I am very cautionous. Or are there other ways to flash my stock ROM? Thanks in advance! MY CURRENT ANDROID VERSION IS GINGERBREAD 2.3.5
P.S. If this is already answered in another thread or if this placed wrongly, please tell me and I apologize for that.
UPDATE
After some searching I found this small tutorial which fitted my expectations. It said that it can indeed simply be done by restoring it in recovery mode by simply selecting the backup folder. Can someone comfirm this?
Almost right.
Cyanogenmod roms use a different format for the system, called 'ext4'. Stock roms use 'rfs' format.
Before restoring you have to convert to rfs. The easy way to do this is flashing a stock firmware with odin and your phone connected to the pc.
Quick guidelines to restore stock backup:
-flash a stock firmware through odin
-root
-flash cwm through recovery
-restore your backup
-you'll have everything exactly the same way you had it when creating the backup.
If you don't get any of the steps, read through the forum, specially the stickies (you wouldn't have opened this thread if you did so in the first place).

Thank you for answering. About everything is clear now and I understand what I'll have to do. I now understand there is indeed a difference between restoring and flashing a ROM. I've found an online guide which tells me how to use Odin. Only one more question: before using Odin, do I have to factory reset and clear cache partion? I think I do but I'm not quite sure. And if I do this before using Odin, will my phone even be able to boot in recovery mode/download mode? Thanks in advance!

ya you can do it.but not a must..
it cause no problems..
jst wipes user apps and datas in int memory...
but you hv to wipe data and cache via recovery after flashing via odin at first boot..

Are you mental or just plain sadistic? Telling new ace users to try Rom Manager?
ROM MANAGER WILL BRICK YOUR ACE.
Only under some very specific conditions rom manager works in the ace, if you don't know them, stay away from this app.

Hey guys I'm right now on an cm7.2 rom and I'm going to shift to waylands cm 9. I made a nandroid backup on my cm7. Now when I restore the backup on my cm9, will I face any consequences as I restored a CM7.2 backup or will I not face any problems? I basically just want to restore my apps. Titanium backup is too tiring for me.

Hey guys. I was using the Stock firmware 2.3.4 so i thought of spicing things up. I installed PA for SU-660 (mine is the SU-660).
It flashed successfully but it had some bugs
Anyway I did a NANDROID BACKUP which I had made. It restores completely but it doesn't boots up. Brings me the LG Logo (with the PITCH BLACK BACKGROUND) and then turns off and back at it again infinitely!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What did I do wrong?
I wiped the Data/Cache/Dalvik Cache etc before and after doing the backup
Please tell me a fix for this. Thank You!

I don't think the NanDroid Backup is broken. As I have restored my data like 2 or 3 times from that same file and the other 1 time before (I have 2 backups).
I think the problem is with the "Downgrading" procedure. Its strange as I have looked around I haven't seen any case like that...
Btw I can reflash the PA ROM for SU660 though. And I think I can flash between the ICS ROMs.
So a Simple Solution at this point will be:- Do u know any STABLE ICS Custom ROM for the SU660?
Thanks

I think you can't restore stock based rom from cm because of the diff kernel. Not sure though.

oh yeah. just remembered that as you told. and that is true..

MD5 fail is a bug. Go to your SD Card --> CWM folder ----> backup folder -----> delete the old md5 file and create a md5 file. ---> now should restore
