Hello,
I have a TMobile & Verizon Tab, for developing on my Mac. The Tmo version is fine, but while idle the Verizon one will disconnect USB, uncheck "USB Debugging" forcing me to unplug, reset option and plug back in 1-3 times before logcat works again. This slows down the development process quite a bit.
Has anybody been able to to disable the Kies or Verizon crap? On the PC I've noticed it tries to load itself with a virtual cd to install their drivers and stuff.
This is what the device is doing during the disconnect.
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): usb mode = 2
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): UsbMode.cdfs_eject
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): setKiesRun -> true
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): setCDFSEject
D/VzwLMService( 2467): Provider is being enabled: true
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): UMS
D/KiesUsbManager( 2467): selectUsb -> UMS
Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm using a Verizon tab for software development on my Mac and it's getting old having to unplug, reactivate USB Debugging, and plug back in every few minutes in order to debug applications properly. I see a few people on the web have seen this, but no solutions have been posted anywhere I could find.
Thanks,
Jonathan

If your PC is "seeing" your device but Activesync is not:
Make sure that you are running Activesync 4.5.
Change your USB to PC Settings (Start>Settings>Connections Tab>USB to PC) while your device is hooked up to your PC to see if that triggers the recognition.
Check your Activesync Connection Settings (File>Connections I think) and make sure that Allow USB Connections is selected.
Disable your firewall on your PC, if you can connect then, you need to enter exceptions in AS to get past this restriction.
Another thing to check: Check your Network Card Settings (Start>Settings>Connections Tab>WiFi>Network Adaptors Tab).
Tap on Remote-NDIS Host. Make sure that User Server Assigned IP address is selected.
I had a similar problem once. Turned out is was my own fault.
I had manually disabled the network connection Activesync needs to detect the Kaiser. This might be relevant for your issue:
On your computer goto 'Network Connections' (via 'Control Panel', assuming you have XP)
Connect the Kaiser to the computer
Enable the disabled network connection
You might want to switch to 'Tiles' view. The third line will read 'Windows mobile-based device'. That network connection needs to be enabled.
Good luck!

This trick helped me
for mine, I had to disable the "advanced network functionality" under Settings -> connections -> USB to PC before it would sync.
Same hint helped me to to uncheck the tab for the "advanced network functionality". No clue why.
Regards
ME HELPED THIS TWO THINGS :
1.
Another thing to check: Check your Network Card Settings (Start>Settings>Connections Tab>WiFi>Network Adaptors Tab).
Tap on Remote-NDIS Host. Make sure that User Server Assigned IP address is selected.
AND THEN THIS :
2.
Change your USB to PC Settings (Start>Settings>Connections Tab>USB to PC) while your device is hooked up to your PC to see if that triggers the recognition.
THAAAANKS !
OK I tried everything and cannot sync with my corporate PC work (XP with SP2).
I cannot get a local network LAN address on the Tilt regardless if I use NDIS or not and regardless if I provide the DNS server address or not it insists on its default mobile IP.
Funny enough "My Mobile" works through "Connect IP" to the default IP address 169.254.2.1
I tried almost all settings and nothing worked. On top I contacted MS just to receive a hotfix for the USB-2-NDIS drivers which didn't work either.
ANY idea anybody?
I also get the mysterious 80072EFD error from activesync 4.5.
PS: At home I can sync with the company server over the internet connected to my W2K SP4 workstation without any problem.
See attached screenshots
hmm my laptop recognizes my phone...its says its connected..but it just wont sync any ideas why>?
running vista btw

This was my problem as well. I had disabled the network connection, but could not find it any more in Network Connections (on my PC). I ended up having to run the ActiveSync installer msi and telling it to repair. That fixed things nicely.

I had that problem until I installed a flashy new NEC PCI USB 2.0 Adapter card in my PC and stopped using my motherboards onboard VIA (Appolo Pro chipset) USB 1.1 ports. The Activesync 4.5 connections are now far more reliable and I can connect both with or without advanced networking functionality ticked. It looks as if the type/quality of USB port in the PC has alot to do with things.
Now the remaining annoying issue with AS 4.5 I have is that when transferring large wmv files to my TyTN IIs storage card (or even internal memory), the progress bar that appears to indicate the file is transferring never gets to the far right side but always resets back to the beginning (sometimes several times when part way along during the transfer). Is this behaviour which other users of Kaisers connected to Win XP machines have observed? Can anyone throw some light on what's going on to cause this?

That's actually a known issue with USB. A std. USB driver connection through AS (regardless what version) will time out after 4 something seconds which may not be enough to write a file to your device/storage card. Best money I ever spent was for Softick Card Export II. It gives you the possibility to either active sync or "card export" data. Card export will enable your storage card as removable drive (just like with a card reader) an you can copy all data you want. Kinda slow but reliable. I just transferred 5 MP3 CD's on my storage card without any problems.

Thanks for the tip with that software. I'm not that concerned that I'm willing to fork out money though Just to clarify things, the files do still get across without any problem or failure (and no Activesync disconnects now), it's just the progress bar doesn't correctly indicate whats going on. FWIW the progress bar progresses for far more than 4 seconds before resetting back to the beginning probably 30 seconds or so but I've not timed it. Have you, tyguy, or other users, observed this behaviour with the Kaiser under XP or does the progress bar behave itself for everyone else?
My process bar fluctuates all over the place. Indicating 30 secs, 4 min, back to 20 secs guess it's as accurate as an hourglas, nice animation though - LOL
thanks
thanks this Worked for me on HD2.
Hi, I couldn't find it with a brief search, so if it was allready discussed, please point me the right direction...
The problem is when you connect your Diamond to USB, you will get 3 options (ActiveSync, Disk Drive and Internet Sharing) but immediately after that the USB connection popup appears which I usualy don't carre, but if I want to swith to Disk Drive Mode I have to hide it with the "Hide" button and if I miss... simply it is useless
It only apperas if ActiveSync was the previous setting and that I use a lot... so is there a way to hide that popup forever ? so that it will connect in the background and never show up... then It would be much easier to choose from those three options without the popup in the way
Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and uncheck Ask about connection type when I connect. BTW, I think this is a ROM specific problem. I'm using the stock ROM and never saw that dialog.

But I want to be asked about connection type when I connect. I just want to get rid of the smaller USB connetion popup... And you're right, I didn't come up on the stock ROM
Go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Check "Enable advanced Network functionality"
I noticed that unchecking this option brings up this Popup...

if I check it, then my Windows Mobile Device Center can't connect with Diamond
The real problem
The real problem here is that the device starts to connect right away when you plug in the USB, regardless of whether you select an option or not. It does not wait for you. Although it displays the selection dialog, but before you can choose from the options it has already started connecting. This happens in the background in case of Mass Storage / Mode modes, but brings up the Connecting to host popup if you have previously used ActiveSync mode.
When you finally change to another mode in the selection dialog, you in fact change the connection of an already active ActiveSync / Mass Storage / Modem connection. Thus the device must STOP the current operation, switch to another mode and RESTART the usb connection again - which often fails. Replugging the device usually helps, but it makes the whole approach pointless.
The correct way of operation would be not to connect before you select how you want your device to be used. It should WAIT until you select one of the options and then CONNECT.
I don't know if there is a way around this I need this dialog but hate that the device connects before I click on one of the options. On Nokia phones nothing happens until you choose. That is the correct way of doing it, not a nice dialog that fails every second time.
There is probably a simple fix for this so I'm going to ask. When I have my phone connected to my computer via USB i am unable to surf the net on my phone or get weather updates...however...i can still recieve calls and get and send text messages. Is there a way to make it so that web browsing and weather tab updates are still functional while the phone is connected to the computer?
I've wondered this also. In addition I usually get a #777 error, complaining about the lack of a data connection.
Go to "mobile device settings" in your Windows Mobile Device Center and check the box that says "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC."
any idea how to do this on activesync? what you mentioned is for vista
oh im sorry i didnt realise you didnt have vista. I think there should be similar settings in the active sync. Probably in connection settings :/
Activesync>Connection Settings. Check "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
just got it.
you connect your diamond to pc with activesync, open connection setting and change the "this computer connect to" to "automatic".
and you need to tick the box "allow USB connection" as well.
Attached is a somewhat-crude shell script that enables wired USB networking ("reverse tethering") on the Epic. Sadly it's not a standalone app, and it doesn't have perfect application compatiblity either. However, some folks may find it useful in order to get Internet where neither cellular nor WiFi service is available.
Requirements:
Rooted Epic with busybox (one-click root satisfies this).
Host PC with Internet sharing capabilities.
ConnectBot or another terminal emulator.
The attached "usbnet.sh" script.
Initial setup:
First, setup the host PC for Internet sharing on the USB network interface:
On Windows, you'll need to install the Samsung USB drivers (if you already did for the one-click root or Wired Tether, you should be OK). The remaining part of the ICS setup on Windows has to be done the first time the script is ran on the phone, so it's covered below.
On Linux, you'll need to setup netfilter (for NAT), install & configure dnsmasq or another DHCP server, and enable IP forwarding. Details on those are outside the scope of this thread, but it's essentially the same as setting up network sharing for an Ethernet connection.
On the phone, install ConnectBot or an alternate terminal emulator. Unfortunately USB ADB and RNDIS can't be used simultaneously, so the script can't be run via "adb shell".
Next, copy usbnet.sh to the phone. It can go anywhere, although it can't be run from /sdcard directly. Good places are /data/local or /data/local/tmp. For example:
Code:
adb push usbnet.sh /data/local
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/usbnet.sh
If you're using ConnectBot (recommended), create a "host" for the usbnet script. Enter "usbnet" in the bottom-of-the-screen input box, select "local" from the drop-down menu to the left, and press enter. At the "$" prompt, enter "exit", and close the session. Now "usbnet" will appear in the host list, long-press it, and select "Edit host". Select "Post-login automation" and enter:
Code:
exec su -c /data/local/usbnet.sh
substituting the appropriate path for "/data/local/usbnet.sh". Also, make sure to press Return to create a newline, otherwise the script won't execute automatically. Alternatively, if you're not using ConnectBot, you can run the script manually after su-ing to root.
Directions for use:
Before using, make sure "USB debugging" is disabled on the phone (unless you're running a patched custom kernel). Also make sure the USB cable is disconnected.
Next, disable WiFi, 4G, and the cellular data connection (long-press power and select either "Data network mode", which lets you still receive calls and SMSes, or "Airplane mode", which doesn't) as these interfere with the wired connection.
Open ConnectBot, and select the "usbnet" entry. Press "Allow" at the su prompt if it comes up. Now, connect the USB cable to the host PC, and select "Charging" from the "Select USB mode" menu.
If the host PC is running Windows, and this is the first time using the wired connection, you'll have to finish the inital setup. On Windows 7, go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings. Once the USB cable is plugged in a new "Local Area Connection" should appear (e.g, "Local Area Connection 3") for the phone. You can unplug and replug the USB cable to verify which is the phone's connection, it will disappear and reappear.
Now, right-click the other network adapter that's providing the Internet connection for the host PC. It's likely "Local Area Connection" for Ethernet, and "Wireless Network Connection" if wireless. Select Properties, and click on the Sharing tab. Check "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection", and if it asks to select a "Home networking connection" (which it should if you have three or more adapters, including the phone, in total), select the phone's adapter (e.g., "Local Area Connection 3"). Then click OK.
Note that, on Windows, to setup sharing the phone's network adapter must be present, which is why it must be done after first running the usbnet script. The sharing setting does persist across disconnects, so the previous setup only needs to be done once unless sharing is manually disabled.
No additional setup should be required if the host PC is running Linux, although you may have to manually assign an IP address to the USB network interface (host side) and manually start dnsmasq/dhpd depending on your configuration.
At this point, the phone should report "netcfg usb0 dhcp ... wait ..." while it attempts to acquire an IP address from the host PC. On Windows, this may take a minute or longer. If for some reason it's unable to get an IP address (may happen during first time setup on Windows) it will report "action 'dhcp' failed (Timer expired)". If it does, unplug the USB cable, select the "usbnet" entry again, and replug the USB cable.
Once the phone acquires an IP address, the usbnet script will print out a table of network adapters and IP addresses (one of which includes the address for usb0) and exit. The connection should be working now.
To disconnect, run "usbnet" from ConnectBot again, which will bring down the connection, reset the USB mode, and exit. Now you can unplug the USB cable, and reenable the cellular ("Data network mode"), WiFi, or 4G connections.
Known issues:
Since the usbnet script operates below the Android framework, it can't tie into the connectivity service and notify waiters than a network connection is available. This doesn't matter for most apps, and they should work just fine. Others won't "believe" a network connection is available and refuse to work. In testing I found that ConnectBot, Maps, Market, and Opera Mobile all work, but that the Amazon Appstore does not. I'm uncertain, but I think sync services (e.g., Calendar) may not work either. To my knowledge, there's no obvious place to tie into the framework to increase application compatibility. Hopefully this is still useful for most of the purposes of folks wanting wired connectivity.
The Linux rndis_host driver is rather finicky, even more so then when using Wired Tether. In testing, I found between half to 2/3rds of connection attempts to a Linux host would fail, but once connected, it seems to work fine.
Again, on Windows, getting an IP address is very slow, I'm not sure if anything can be done about that.
Also, I've only been able to test on EC05 (Froyo). I'm unlikely to be able to test this on Gingerbread before the official release hits.

i have followed your method step by step...
but
when i connect usb cable to the host pc, select charging... and nothing happened
there is no new "Local Area Connection" appeared in Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings....and so connect bot cannot acquired an IP addres.
any solution?
many thanks before

Does Wired Tether work, or have you tried using it before?
When you connect the USB cable, what USB devices show up in Device Manager on the host?
Whether this works or no I'm glad you atleast tried.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
This seems to be just what I was looking for. Going to try it soon and report back.
Results:
Everything goes according to instructions (taking into account WinXP ILO Win7) until-
I get the LAC3.
Per Windows help menu instructions I run the Network set-up wizard to configure for ICS.
ERROR occurs during configuration, suggests to set up network manually.
Connectbot times out with a fail.
Ideas?
I have a moto e5 plus, that wont let me tether my mobile data to my computer through usb. The setting just stays blank. How do I fix it? Thank you
You have to make sure you enable developer options, (tap build number until says unlocked). In developer options enable adb debugging. Then switch your default USB mode to either data transfer or tethering mode. Hope this helps you out.
