I have a moto e5 plus, that wont let me tether my mobile data to my computer through usb. The setting just stays blank. How do I fix it? Thank you
You have to make sure you enable developer options, (tap build number until says unlocked). In developer options enable adb debugging. Then switch your default USB mode to either data transfer or tethering mode. Hope this helps you out.

Hi, I couldn't find it with a brief search, so if it was allready discussed, please point me the right direction...
The problem is when you connect your Diamond to USB, you will get 3 options (ActiveSync, Disk Drive and Internet Sharing) but immediately after that the USB connection popup appears which I usualy don't carre, but if I want to swith to Disk Drive Mode I have to hide it with the "Hide" button and if I miss... simply it is useless
It only apperas if ActiveSync was the previous setting and that I use a lot... so is there a way to hide that popup forever ? so that it will connect in the background and never show up... then It would be much easier to choose from those three options without the popup in the way
Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and uncheck Ask about connection type when I connect. BTW, I think this is a ROM specific problem. I'm using the stock ROM and never saw that dialog.

But I want to be asked about connection type when I connect. I just want to get rid of the smaller USB connetion popup... And you're right, I didn't come up on the stock ROM
Go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Check "Enable advanced Network functionality"
I noticed that unchecking this option brings up this Popup...

if I check it, then my Windows Mobile Device Center can't connect with Diamond
The real problem
The real problem here is that the device starts to connect right away when you plug in the USB, regardless of whether you select an option or not. It does not wait for you. Although it displays the selection dialog, but before you can choose from the options it has already started connecting. This happens in the background in case of Mass Storage / Mode modes, but brings up the Connecting to host popup if you have previously used ActiveSync mode.
When you finally change to another mode in the selection dialog, you in fact change the connection of an already active ActiveSync / Mass Storage / Modem connection. Thus the device must STOP the current operation, switch to another mode and RESTART the usb connection again - which often fails. Replugging the device usually helps, but it makes the whole approach pointless.
The correct way of operation would be not to connect before you select how you want your device to be used. It should WAIT until you select one of the options and then CONNECT.
I don't know if there is a way around this I need this dialog but hate that the device connects before I click on one of the options. On Nokia phones nothing happens until you choose. That is the correct way of doing it, not a nice dialog that fails every second time.
Does the Android Wifi Tether App for root users work for Sprint Moto X? I have unlimited data. I want to tether IPad Air.

I was able to make tethering work on my rooted Sprint Moto X, but had to follow the following steps:
1. Change "Device-Profile" to "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)"
2. Enable "WiFi-driver reload"
3. Enable "Keep Alive - Connection Checking"
4. Enable "Routing Fix"
On your iPad, look for the access point named "wlan0"
I was unable to get wireless encryption working. I also was unable to change the SSID. No matter what SSID I enter, the access point always broadcasts as "wlan0".
Tethering has been extremely unstable for me. Tethering stops if the screen turns off, and it is extremely slow compared to what my data speeds are when not tethering. Running a speed test from my phone without tethering I get 20Mbps down. I get 0.5Mbps running a speed test from my laptop while tethered.

Thanks. Does anyone know why the download speed is slow when tethered to an iPad?

For Verizon, I use the wifi_tether_v3_4-experimental1.apk and set...
change device profile to galaxy nexus (cdma/lte)
check box: wifi-driver reload
check box: enabled routing fix
and I can change the SSID and use WPA encryption. Its been stable. to.
Ok so I just got the HTC Desire 510 from cricket wireless last night, now I've been trying to use it on my computer for usb tethering so I can share my phones connection with my pc, my question is how do I unhide the tethering options under network and wireless settings ? I know the option is there because I used a app called usb tethering from the play store and it revealed these hidden options. I think they did this because they don't support tethering but I just want to use my home wifi not my data connection anyway. Any help would be nice thanks.

til we don't get root to this device u can only use PDANET usb tethering works for me
I needed to switch on adb over wifi. This way i can cast my screen on my laptop using vysor and put my phone away for better network. I am pretty sure that the option to switch on adb over wifi was there in previous version. I have gone through some threads concerning activating adb over network, haven't tried them yet. Please confirm about the option in dev options and any app that can help in casting screen. Thanks
Edit: currently on rooted Stock Nougat
I'm very late to this thread, but luckily, as of Android 11 and up, adb works over wi-fi (without USB) on non-rooted Android phones via Developer options Wireless debugging switches.
I've tried to do build.prop and terminal emulator modifications with no luck. It allows me to enable it in settings but no connection actually occurs, any luck with other Sprint users?
Same here except Metro PCS.
It works for me. I'm in Sprint and after I enable it in settings it works. Usually takes a min before the device recognizes the connection but it comes on eventually. They did give me the 10gigs of hotspot free each month. IDK if u got that but it may matter. Either way even after the 10 is up I can still use us tether to get my connection.
