Would someone be able to make a .zip that would make the clock, notifications, and provider the gingerbread green for a jk4 based rom?? I'm having a difficult time doing it. I keep bricking my phone.
i see what i can do.

alright, plain and simple i wish for a 2.2 foyo rom that is stable, with some bells and whistles, put simply...the internet and these forums don't make it very easy to find or understand, I've rooted my captivate, and I've enabled non market app installs. could somebody point me in the right direction, a one click method would be ideal, kind of tired of dealing with cmd, had enough it figuring out how to enable non market apps >_<
A good place to start would be cognition very easy to install... If you can follow a few basic instructions which you apparently are able to do.
+1 on cognition. But go to the the thread and read. Since you ate already rooted you can be there unless then an hr fully backed up and restored. Understand what you are doing before you do it
Captivate
Cog 2.4
ahh, thanks for the tip, i went there the other night and got some help through a chat and have everything up and running and i must say, super smooth. still working on tweaking it a bit for my self, but i am enjoying 2.2 and the added mods from cog still trying to figuire out the gps glich.
If you were comfortable doing a cognition flash the next step is an i9000 rom flash. The i9000 roms fix my gps somehow. I can't explain it but when I run them with HUSPA enabled I get much better gps without using wireless networks. Navigation and all. They are however a little more complicated to install. You need to flash to stock, flash jg8 modem(only on huspa roms) enable 850 band and make sure it is working, then root, install rom manager. then flash the rom using CWM. Then the optional lagfix. lol it sounds like a lot but if you go to Deviant roms they give step by step instructions. And btw if you are going to do it, I never master clear and it always works good.
The jg8 modem trick is to enable the 850mhz band altogether....without it you will be left with only 1900....
Hi guys just got my galaxy S and I am currently running on Doc Rom's latest build with Hardcore 15Q 500hz kernel but I have a ton of questions I don't understand. I have been trying to read the forums as best as I can but I still can't find the answers I'm looking for. Please explain in layman's terms I cam from the Desire and N1 and things were pretty straight forward over there. ROM+Kernel+Radio
1. What's voodoo?? and Lagfix?? Kernels from what I understand but why are there so many spinoffs and variations and modifications?? Are they required? If I made a rom from docs kitchen does it come with these? Do I still need to install them after?
Because when I read the directions it says to close any lagfixes before flashing. Can anyone give me the correct sequence of what I am supposed to flash to the phone??
2. Is there an automatic text reflow feature for the browser similar to HTC SENSE wherein the text resizes even after you've really zoomed in and not just double tapped?
3. I read in doc roms kitchen that back light notification is included but I cant get it to work. Do I have to flash the kernel in BLN's thread? Wouldn't that overlap whatever kernel I got on my rom?
4. How do I get battery percentage for my rom?
5. Is there a mod wherein you can enable the home button to unlock the phone while in the lockscreen? Similar to the one Cyanogen is using for the desire and N1
6. Whats JPY / JS3 / JPX??? I assume its official firmware from samsung, is JS3 the newest?
Thanks for helping an extremely confused noob!
hmm right where to start ...... 1st of all voodoo is a kernel same as speedmod both have an option to install a lagfix (speeds up the phone basically ) but this is optional and is usually contained in CWM (ClockworkMod) CWM is a more advanced recovery method where you can flash new roms and apply tweaks do resets ect.. ( to get into recovery press Volume up + Home button + Power button all together )
there are so many versions of ROMs + Kernels because alot of people on here are developers and like to modify their phones.. If your not too sure if this will benefit you, i suggest you dont bother as 1 little mistake can turn your phone into a very expensive paper weight.
BLN is an app which will make the buttons light up if you get a txt, email, ect without lighting up the whole screen (which drains battery) there is a similar app names NoLed available in the market.
as for the automatic text reflow i dunno what that is if you mean multitouch this phone supports it ( pinch to zoom and all that **** )
JPY JPX JS3 are firmwares JS3 being the latest. and finally for the mod of making the home button unlock the phone i dont think ive seen that done on the SGS yet.. but there are alot of different Unlock screens you can get from flashing.
oh and the battery percentage thingy thats included in some roms. otherwise there is an app called circular battery ( google it )
but as said earlier.. if you do decide to customise your phone make sure you FULLY UNDERSTAND what you are doing.. if you have doubts dont do it, read a bit more and post some Questions on here till you are confident enough, as no body on here is responsible for damaging your phone except you !!...
Hope all that helps sorry for such a long post

When in CWM and tweaking lagfix options theres an item that enables it. Does this mean that by default the lagfix is turned off when I flash the kernel or rom? Is it recommended?
What does convert system to ext4 / RFS do? Is it recommendable?
Do I have to partition my sdcard or something for this to work?
Whats the tweak option and is there anything that I should do for better performance?
and lastly when I reboot after enabling lagfix it asks me if I should convert and it proceeds to backup. What just happened? Is there anyway to revert? Will it mess up my files?
Oh and btw I'm using Doc's Rom and theres an options under display to change my lockscreen. It gives me the option of changing from stock android, samsung or whatever else but it doesn't seem to work. Do I have to do something to enable it or is this still a WIP?

I read the spreadsheet but still cant understand what the difference between voodoo and speedmod kernel is. Shouldn't voodoo be bettter?
like everyone says on here about the battle of voodoo vs speedmod. there is no better / worse its personal choice both work brilliantly so u decide which to use.
as for lagfix its disabled as default but you enable it via CWM when speedmod asks to backup its best to do it incase of any trouble ( VERY RARE ) you do not need to partition your sd card.
ext4 is just where data is saved instead of rfs, its quicker this way hence the name LAGFIX and its optional, but it works
doing anything other than what samsung say is risky, but the clever people over here on XDA know what they are doing and thats what makes the SGS better. your files wont get deleted unless you do a wipe (manually or wipe version of ROM )
Oh and the lockscreens are changeable in 'settings' if not check out the threads ( or where you downloaded your ROM from )
I think I got it. Thanks buddy! Really appreciate it!
So I flashed to the leaked 2.3.3 ROM and KF1 kernel when it dropped during the summer, and noticed that the vibrate notifications (either in silent mode or normal) do not work. I found a thread with instructions to test the vibration function, which worked fine, but my phone will not vibrate at any other time. Has a patch been released to solve this issue, or is there a work around for this?
I am currently without a computer, so anything I can do directly from the phone would be prefered.
As far as I know, there were certain bugs along the way in several of the "leaked" i897 firmwares starting with the kf1, and going through kh3, ki1,ki2, kj1,kj2, and now kj3. Certain bugs have been fixed along the way, but these are "leaked" firmwares so bugs are to be expected.
So, a fix for you would be to upgrade to one of the newer firmwares (once u have computer access again). If you decide to do that, just choose one without the Bootloaders, since you are already running a GB firmware.
Thanks for the info.
Well, is there any way to get the JM9 gpsfix on gingerbread roms? Although it was originally meant for Froyo roms only but I could easily use it on ICS. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work on Gingerbread also. So anyway, I instaleld this from sgstools and it resulted in an error..I tried to search for a flashable zip but couldn't find it..
SO if anyone has it lying around soemwhere in their pc plz upload it and share it...may be it'll run that way. If not that then tell me how i can make sgstools work on gingerbread..
This fix is the ebst so far of all i have seen. Gives me indoors lock in less than 30 seconds...
Hi I recently installed froyo cream sandwich and it works super fast but the bug that had the non readable text on the notification bar was present. I downloaded the update that fixes this bug but I am stuck in boot loop and doesnt want to run the rom. The Dev clealy stated to load on top of rom but no luck as ive been stuck in boot loop for 45 mins now so if anyone can help id be really grateful thanks
never used the fix dorianx made, i always just flashed rom then changed the color in settings... i know it would be nice to just use a flashable .zip for the fix but being you are having issues just do it manually

Thanks for the reply if you dont mind can you tell me step by step exactly what you did to make it work? I too did the color modifications manually for the ICS look but my notificacions are still very dark and barely readable. I love this rom and dont want to have to swap it out for gingerbread again just because of a minor setback.
i dont recall the exact but something like settings>cm>interface>statusbar>choose color on options like clock and such, then you need to go another setting and change some more. not running a cm rom at the moment so i cant check. just dig all over the settings and youll find it im sure
