[Q] Installing jpe modem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i am currently running Darky 9.0.2 (which is by the way just awesom!!).
I was wondering if i could enhance my battery life by using another modem than the JPY which is the fundament of darkys rom.
I've heard that jpe is considered to be much less battery draining than jpy, is that correct?
If yes, can i just put the modem of jpe in modem port of odin and flash (without) repartition? Or does it not work if i am on darkys which is based on jpy?
Where can i get the modem?
Thanks for your answers =)
kind regards
Than

How would you remove the modem file from the rest of the .tar file? as far as I can find all firmware files seem to come as one .tar file that you use in PDA to flash.
From where i read somewhere else, JP5 modem is good for battery life.

Go to docs thread, and under the modem section you will see various ones. Choose the one you want then flash via clockwork recovery.

Can somebody post exact link to JPE modem? Many thanks...

Is it possible to update JPE modem file via ROM manager -> Install ROM from SD card and than choose update.zip with ONLY modem file?
I am asking because I cannot access to CWM on my rooted official Froyo 2.2.1 since it has Samsung Recovery, version 3e which does not support loading update.zip files?
I am waiting for experts and helpful answers. Thanks.

Just to recovery mode than flash JPE modem that's it
I personally use JPE modem which is great compared to ther modems I tried
at the moment my fone is being unpluged for 38hrs with 36% battery left

Insalling cutom rom with I9000XXJPK

okay guys,
so i would like to be able to flash rombie v2a. i have flashed the phone itself using 512pit file and 2.2 jpk firmware using odin. so i got a jpk 2.2 samsung galaxy s and want to flash to rombie whats the saftest way ? Do i just copy the update.zip to sdcard/ then do 3 button recovery and flash that way or is something else needed.Rombiev2a jph files state the kernel needs changing and to use odin to flash it i get all that. but doesnt state if this is the same for jpk aswell. if anyone at all could shed some light and tell me hows i can flash rombie v2a 4 jpk i would be very gratefull cheers wattsy
I am using Rombies' V2A Full with JPK. You need to flash the i9000 kernel first to have recovery mode 2e. You need it to be able to flash the update.zip or you will get an error about unsigned updates. Then once you flash the update you flash the JPK kernel back to the phone.

[Q] How downgrade Galaxy S to froyo from gingerbread?

My i9000 is on i9000xxjvb stock rom. I flashed modified kernal to make it rooted and cwm enabled. I am unable to move appear from phone memory to internal SD. An error message appears " failed to move application, not enough memory."
To get rid of this, i tried Hamsterbread 1.1 custom rom, but problem not solved. I used every method from hard reset to wipe cache, data and more. But nothing happened.
Now I want to downgrade to froyo. I don't know how to do this? Please, tell the procedure in detail and step by step. I belong to India. There is no 2.2.1 version available for India. Can I go for other regions versions? or I should stick with i9000ddjp6 which is latest verison for India. Thanks
i havnt tried downgrading. but i think you could try flashin back using odin with bootlooder froyo.
i live in india but use european firmware an see no problem
^^ Im not sure about this. I think you can just flash a Froyo ROM via CWM. I am not sure about this. It always makes sense to search around before you do either. Good Luck!
If you flash speedmod (or whatever froyo kernel you choose) through odin, then simply install whatever rom through cwm via zip file. The downgraded froyo rom doesn't need bootloaders, the gingerbread ones are backwards compatible. Tried it myself and it worked without a hitch.
Just flash any stock firmware through ODIN with pit and repartitioned tick and you are good to go.
Makes sense to open eyes and read the post that tells you how .Or even use the search button .

just download a stock froyo firmware and flash with odin. there are tutorials all over the place
just flash froyo kernel using odin and then enter clockwordmod install zip

Would jvo modem work on froyo2.2?

Hi I have stock rom of froyo 2.2 (this one on the link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=kc1
i really dont like the kc1 modem i was wondering if JVO modem would work.
It said its for CWM3
but can that be just flashed using odin ??
or do i have to have Clockwork mod 3?? how do i install this?? I checked my recovery (stock recovery) and it seems like the stock recovery is 3e version.. :S
how do i install cwm3 if i have 3e version..
I upgraded to GB using this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1#post13566808
and upgraded to JVO modem using recovery update thingy
modem was great (GPS locks fast etcs) but it was too unstable (i prob did something wrong while installing it? i dono ) :and it kept shutting off the phone
so i installed the stock 2.2 froyo ugkc1
please help me
thanks
In my experience modems are pretty interchangable. I like the KC1 modem myself for Bell it seems to work the best. Maybe it depends on your area.
Follow this thread to flash modem for CWM any version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
If you are running Froyo then you will want to stick with CWM2 I think. Speedmod is an easy way to get this. If you want to use a modem file that is not listed on that link you can download any CWM2 zip file and open it and insert your modem.bin into it. Then flash that using CWM.
Hi thank you for your reply.
I dono where to downlaod the JVO modem with CWM2 version
also if i use speedmod will I get CWM2? even tho i have stock e3 recovery installed??/
Yes, speedmod will give you CWM2. Just download speedmod for ODIN and flash it as PDA. It will work on all froyo builds.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
To get the modem file just extract the modem.bin out of the CWM3 zip file you have. Then download any CWM2 modem zip file and put that modem.bin into it. The only difference between those files are the modem.bin inside them.
I wish I knew a way to flash just the modem.bin with ODIN. There may be a way, but I have not found it yet. CWM is the only documented way that I have found unless the ROM comes in 3 parts. Then you can just flash the PHONE portion with Odin.
One other trick I did was I flashed with a ROM that included the modem that I wanted, then used Odin to upgrade to JVH but didn't flash the Phone portion, just the PDA and CSC. This worked good and didn't require CWM or rooting at all. Now I have a 2.3.3 stock ROM with a custom Modem without any hacks.
-start Odin.
-Select "phone" and fetch the modem.bin file.
-Only thing checked should be "Auto Reboot"
-Put phone in download mode
-Plug in USB
-hit Start
Awesome, Thanks Pr3torian. I have thought about doing that a few times but wasn't sure it would work. I always figured it was that easy but could not find any documentation to support it. All the Phone downloads are always md5 or zip format so didn't want to brick my phone.

[Q] Flashing Back to stock firmware on my tab

Sorry guys for being a noob.
Story is my tab is rooted and flashed with the OVERCOME RC 2.0 GOLD rom from following alterbridge's thread procedures. Beautiful rom, no complaints.
However the screen has been acting up lately with the finger held down and screen shaking issue.
Ive searched and searched and have concluded its a hardware problem.
I need to flash back to stock for warranty.
For being the noob I am, I've downloaded the stock files....but I don't know how to flash it back.
Attached is a picture of a .zip file of the files inside the zip. Do I use ODIN to flash back? What are the procedures? What file is associated with which box in ODIN? Sorry I just don't have a clue. Or do just throw this into my tab's SD memory and update from CWM recovery mode?...
Do I use superoneclick to unrooted after back to stock rom?
I just don't want to brick my tab...Thanks for any help...
The stock ROM should be a 2.2 FROYO, and the ROM I'm on right now is on Gingerbread...if this makes any difference...
Use this guide first flash with odin it tells you how to flash with odin at the bottom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763
and after flash whatever froyo rom you want make sure you got the one that shipped with your device if its going back for warrenty again flash with odin and your done.
Edit dont forget the thanks button if this hellped you .
Thanks for the link.
So i have the .pit file for the PIT section.
No need for phone and csc section i assume.
But for PDA section i dont have any files available? From my attached picture. i only have a data.tar.gz file. Im not sure what that file is? do i just rename it to .tar??? please help
Sorry not sure on them files i think you can use heidmal with those files do a search on here for that
Anyone???
What do I use? ODIN? HEIMDALL? I need help please.
From overcome gold you will have to re-stock to froyo. Which means a repartiton with pit file + phone + modem files. You will need odin for this.
I would suggest flash back to a safe froyo rom first - as per jutleys link above. Then flash back to your original firmware version.
From the pic above looks like you have unzipped the full.zip. For Odin You need the full zip in the pda section, modem zip in the modem and the pit file in the pit section. Download full zips from roto's link above.
Then check out roto backup thread (shows how to restore using heimdall / odin). As i havent flashed back to my original firmware yet, someone else could advise better. I am assuming for stock purposes you need to put the original stock firmware zip into pda section of odin and leave everything blank and then flash away.
Cheers

Thank you for your response. I'll work on getting back safely to a froyo rom.
As for the picture, it is a pic of the content inside the full zip already. Should i unzip and enter modem and pit according? But what goes into the pda section?

That pic is from a firmware from samfirmware? It has the bootloaders in it so be very careful as flashing bootloaders can cause bricks or be protected ones. As i said before, i think you flash the full zip in the pda section and leave the rest blank i.e no need to unzip.
But do so only after flashing using roto safe froyo rom.
As for the files above, It might be wise to take out the bootloaders then rezip & flash but i would wait on someone with a bit more knowledge just to confirm this.
As long as they are the original files for your firmware, you should be ok.
Thanks for your help ezynow.
UPDATE: I've successfully downgraded from Overcome Gingerbread to Overcome Froyo now.
Now it's just a matter of getting my head wrapped around this stock ROM right. The order, and where the files should go.
Anyone else would like to share their insight? This is the file I downloaded, and this is how it is presented to me. I just need someone to help me sort out what is what.
Thanks.
UPDATE #2: Tried re-zipping and converting to tar file. ODIN failed. Re-zipped into tar again without the data.tar.gz file because I don't know what it is, and failed again.
I don't know what to do anymore. How do I get this to work?
bump
anyone?
UPDATE #3: Tried loading the whole .zip file from CWM. No luck.
Who's your service provider?
I sugest look for another stock rom here that is in the correct format i am sure i seen a post showing all stock roms somewhere use odin
Link deleted. It mentions to use pit file + full zip in pda section . Then says out of date.
Also did you check rotobbackup method thread - use heimdall and flash individual files from your extraced zip files. Assuming you can avoid flashing bootloaders you should only be a soft-brick if anything goes wrong and download mode still available.
Forget about using cwm for anything stock related.
Sum1 who has reverted back to stock surely can help out here!
p.s what was your original firmware version?
I have succesfuly downgraded from gb overcome gold to arabic froyo using the file from samfirmware. First try resulted in stuck at samsung logo but I was expecting that due to the ext4 partition. A cache wipe and factory reset in recovery solved that problem. Also I observed when going to recovery that there were errors in red that are coming out complaining of access problem to certain files. Since I am able to boot I then proceded to format the internal sd. After that I again flashed using the same arabic fw. No problems so far even kies sees my fw as the latest.
Here is the procedure I followed-change the files according to your fw version

Thanks a lot for the help guys.
I will try going to another stock firmware later this afternoon.
However, the firmware I really need is P1000MUGJJ7 (Bell's stock firmware).
The files I have in hand are apparently the files for this firmware, but how to restore it, I have zero clue. These we're sent to me by a member on this forum.
I think the member said that these were created from roto backup.
I have looked everywhere else for this firmware version but it's NOWHERE. Neither does samfirmware.com
So to sum it up, pretty much these are my only sources to play with, and just gotta make it work...
Please help and thanks again.

Please refer to the attached picture.
It's a pic of the contents inside the .zip file I was given.
Now I just need a solution as to HOW to use them.
Only the pit.pit file can be used.extract it and in odin load it under pit. then under pda load the whole tar file. then check repartition ,reboot and time.....start...

OK. So you are suggesting I take out pit file then CONVERT in someway the whole .zip file into .tar file for the PDA section, am I correct?
Now, I need a proper way to convert this file because I tried this using a converter I downloaded online. And after the conversion, the .tar files was double the size (over 400mb, original ~200mb). And flashing through ODIN using this new file didn't work. So what's the proper way to convert?

Ok, Answer is > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783 find there a JVR modem, and flash it via Recovery
Thanks for the quick reply. I am trying it now and update once done.
Dfolt,
Thanks a tonn. Things are working fine now. I did not realize the fact that I must not use ODIN for flashing the modem for cyanogen and another mistake I did was that I took the modem from stock XXJVR.
and, 1 thing, dont flash modems (if u are using cyanogenmod) via Odin .
Modems for CM7 are flashable only via Recovery
Hi,
here you find a lot of modems and bootloader for cm7-->
