Under the developer settings, right below "Enable USB Debugging" in 2.1, as well as in the original leaked 2.2, there was the option to keep the screen on while the phone was charging or connected via USB.
I've been trying out a few ROMs, mostly based on 2.2.1, and in every one of them, that option is completely gone! Any know anything about this?
I have been told that this is the case on the 2.2.1 roms see my thread here:
Hopes this helps you.

Well, thanks for the help. I would really like for my screen timeout to be 15 seconds, unless i plug it in.... WITHOUT having to hit a button on a widget, and remembering to hit that button later so that my screen doesnt stay on forever.
Anyone know why the option is missing from 2.2.1 roms?

Are there any fixes /workarounds out there for this option since it dissappeared from Settings|Applications|Development in 2.2.1 ?
It bugs me no end when I'm driving with my phone plugged in and the screen times out.
Yes. Widgetsoid in the market. Free. Enjoy :-D
Thanks... That's good.

I use StayAwake, free on the market. You can chose between stay awake always or when plugged into AC/USB.
Paul.
Thanks for that - StayAwake is just what I was looking for!
Hey all,
hope this is the right Thread for my post.
I've found out that the touch buttons of my device(Galaxy i9000) are lightening as long as the display is on.
On the device of my girlfriend the buttons are lightening only for 3 seconds then they turn off again even the display is still on.
We both have Froyo 2.2.1 XXJQ3 flashed over Odin. Nothing else is modded.
No rooting, no lagfix.
I know thats it's normal that the buttons are only lightening for 3 seconds, but my girlfriend wants me to set her mobile so it's like mine.
And I have the question why my buttons are lightening as long as the display's on and other phones of the users here not?
Hope u pros can help me again.
Greetz and thx
That's really strange...mine only go in in some apps, when I click them, our when I an typing but generally they are off...will look into it. Are you sure you both running exactly the same firmware?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm on the same firmware flached wit Kies (official) and mine is fine. If keep touching the screen, the buttons keep lightening but if after two seconds they are off.
flash the official version it's in kies
Hey guys,
Yeah I'm sure that we both have the same firmware, because I flashed them together. First mine then her's.
Today I flashed both to 2.3.3 and again my buttons stay on and her's not.
In my opinion it looks much better when they stay on as long as the display is on especially when it's dark, but im still curious whats the reason for this.
Still hope u can help me.
Thx and greetz
keep the lights on
Hi there,
I had exactly the same problem with my phone - especially annoying if you are
using phone in darkness.. App "keep the lights on" is a smooth solution..
Give it a try, step out of the dark
cheers
saving battry
I know that it saves battery but why the heck it doesn't do that on my phone?
Never changed something and I have to say that I really like that they stay on, but is there a chance that we can set up if lights stay on or not?

For me on XXJPK, while the app works, after I lock and unlock the buttons light up again so you would have to double tap the widget to turn the lights off every time... :-(
@markdj57
On JP3 and JPO works just fine - after turning the widget (and lights) on, I simply
throw the widget in trash and the buttons and display become one

XXJVK known issue/feature: Button lights are always on when screen is on.
However, this phenomenon should not occur on older firmwares.
Is there a simple fix yet?
Look at this post, worked for me and others.

I found that the app "screen filter" makes the soft key lights turn off after a couple of seconds when it's running, other than that I've never experienced it :/

Also, after tab goes off, i can reset again and battery still high (e.g. 70%).

I'm using overcome from 1.4 until recent jupiter.
i try to re-stock, but problem still exist.
i'm also try from another forum, to manual bright screen to > 50%, but not help.

now, tryng BOCA (2.3.4).
any idea ?
Thanks
Did you install any 3rd party app recently? What app?
How about your battery temperature? Is it hot each time after its turn off? If yes, there is probabily your facing some hardware problem (main motherboard).

BOCA rom not help also.
now, tryng to downgrade to froyo.
i'm tryng to look also @ logcat, but i dont had enough knowledge on that one.

after tryng several rom and check symptom collection, i had pre-analysis that maybe this is related to battery problem (or another chipset related).
dead gtab after going to sleep mode is always appear if battery < 50%.
if i try to power on again, gtab still ok and can operate until it's going to "sleep" again.
i'm going to service centre then.

Haven't anyone experience weird like me?
My phone suddenly make a sound like a door is opening in horror movie. Then, a laughing sound.
After I heard that sound, my screen was just black and I cant access my homescreen even home or power button were pressed ; it stayed like that till I have to long press power button to hard shutdown it.
What was that?
That time, I was on deodexed ramad jvr with standar black theme from pele with speedmod t10 kernel.
Anyone have this happen too?
My assumption was a virus/trojan was in my phone.

OMG...wtf was that?
Never heard anything like this ,looks like your phone got a ghost in it!
i would go and check it out for trojan immediately and reflash it make sure you had a backup already , if the phone's having more weird problems then try to get a more stable and good ROM+Kernel package!
There is no such app that will do joke like that right?
Already reflash my phone,
But really, I want to know what was that.
Maybe, cracked app, right?
Last thing I remember before it started to make sound like that is
1. 1st weird thing, my phone/dialer/contact/messaging icon were dissappeared from my drawer & dock. I cant receive & make call & sms ; the call & sms can come in, but nothing appear on my screen. So, temporary solution , I installed godialier/gocontact & gosms.
2. Then , I try to replace phone.apk and mms.apk manually using root explorer, but didnt help.
3. Try to restore from titanium backup also didnt do anything.
4. Because at that time l was in the office, so i just leave it like that with battery around 7%.
5. All of sudden, my phone which was in my pocket, give sound like that.

Sounds like a cracked/malicious/virus app.
I recommand flashing a complete new ROM to make sure you got rid of it.
Yes, I also thought like that. Already on new rom and scanned with 2,3 antivirus already.
Anyway, thanks everyone.
Just to inform, and beware of what you are installing.
But I'm still wondering which app did that. So careless of me.

Problem is very simple. My phone's screen is sick & tiered off my calls.
Black screen immediately after i push "call" button (dialing up)
OR
after i push green "accept" button on the screen.
Any ideas?

I think the proximity sensor of your phone is playing up. The phone thinks it is already very close to or already touching your ear.
Unfortunately i think there is no way to disable this function. You can just press the home button if you want the screen to appear again.

Yeah. I must to reboot phone to get the screen to appear again.
It will not light up on its own.
But when screen is black i can still talk until the other party decides to exterminate a call (because i can't)
If your Rom has Accessibility, you can enable the "power button ends call" feature. Maybe it can help.

You're still on Eclair? Definitely better to upgrade:
GB > ICS > JB
But you must upgrade gradually to avoid post-installation problems like invalid IMEI and instabilities.

Can you give me to some legit tutorial link that will explain how to DIY ?
You can use the link below as guide to root and flash GB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8805265&postcount=1
After flashing to GB, you can decide to upgrade to ICS if you like. There are many Roms to choose from. You can flash the Rom via CWM. I used CM9 ICS and Darky's ICS but for a short time only.
After flashing to ICS, you can decide to upgrade to JB, many to choose from. I recommend C-RoM Mix, proven fast, smooth and stable.
I found an app BetterSleep by Tad.
It disables phones proximity sensor. And it fixed my problem (or bypassed it).
Thanks 4 all the help
I was wrong. It did not fix a problem.
Good! There's an application to control the proximity sensor after all.
