According to the question I ask, I think I would like to standardize the "marking scheme"
1. Overall Performance
2. Boot up time
3. Battery Performance
4. Buggy?
5. Compatibility?
6. Internal memory after initial setup?
Thanks everybody! Just doing the research which one is the best.
I have used MIUI, CTM, etc... Want to get more information before I changed to another ROM.
I've only used Miui as I've never had any reason to change.
Overall Performance:
Seeing as it's BETA software, the performance all round is much, much better then stock.
Boot up time:
This isn't really an issue as I never turn my phone off. Unlikely computers phones are meant to be on 24/7 so boot time is moot in my eyes.
Battery Performance:
With every new kernel and update, I find my battery lasting that little bit longer. I can get around 1.5-2 days out of mine (as Miui has the option to turn off things / underclock).
Buggy:
For BETA software things break from time to time, although the things that do break aren't that important (Tether and the Theme Downloader mainly).
Compatibility:
What do you mean?
Internal memory after initial setup?
With a fair few apps I have ~30MB left.
cronos or iceandfire are the two best roms hands down...
Stock 2.2 is the best now imho
froyomod 2.4
I am using APAC (asia-pacific leak) since Friday, and it is absolutely brilliant - near perfect, I´d say.
By now you can also apply some themes, and the battery life is great!
The only problem I am personally having is that the app "LEDs Hack" doesn´t seem to be working at all anymore and I haven´t found anything else to turn of the Softkey-Backlights while in Dock Mode... once that is solved, I´d have the perfect ROM
Project elite
Used cyanogen for about 6 mo but alot of fc.went to sorcery for about a month, it looked great and performance was good but my cell reception was in the toilet. Now project elite since christmas and I have fallen in love with my droid again.they have the kernall clocked at 1100 ewhich will run warm after 1/2 hour so i clock to 900.status cool and stable plus you can eryn your browser as an iphone (which comes in handy for netflix)..keep that droid around it still keeps up or beats your friends phone....ps screw motorola for wanting to lock their bootloader.

It also works for me. I installed this "app2ext" and worked amazing. 6 HD games, 5 Normal Games, 30 Apps+ And i still have 80mb free !
The only thing i don't like is the fact that MIUI launcher doesn't have scrollable widgets compatibility .

+ 1 for CM6...plus kabaldan has done so much for us milestone users and he still helps out.

CyanogenMod 6.1.2 is my choice, fast fixes for bugs and like MIUI, after installing a ton of apps (over 30 as well) I stil have over 80mb free.
I've been on stock Eclair most of the time and it of course bugged me a lot. Tried Froyomod 2.2 and had the fast battery drain issue, now I'm using FroyoMod 2.4 and seems to be *much* better now.
I'd like to see the stock 2.2, but...
The bset ROM I've yet tried has to be the APAC leak, the latest nandroid. Its incredible. Kicks Nexus ass, bigtyme !
1. Overall Performance : Incredible. There is no other way to explain this.
2. Boot up time : NOt much of an issue, but if ur still interested, its almost equivalent to other roms available.
3. Battery Performance : The best Ive yet seen after trying every mod available, excet shadowmod. It gives me 2.5 days till discharge. For the milestone, thats a colossal feat.
4. Buggy : Not at all. No bugs found yet. Been 2 weeks.
5. Compatibility : Everything runs. Without applying external updates, or software hacks.
6. Internal memory after initial setup : 158MB. But most of my apps are on SD, So i Still get about 102 MB free on my phone.
FroyoMod 2.4c & G.O.T 2.2.1
_ MIUI is good for me now!
Now i'm using Froyomod 2.4, but a brazilian guy Edgar Castro launched new shadowmod version based on gingerbread.
I will install today.
I would also say CM6 is the best in terms of performance. Just to add on (NOT MEANING TO TAKE OVER THIS THREAD, just a suggestion), could we add how much mb of ram is available after boot? (E.g you could use advanced task killer, or memory booster just to see how much is available (BEFORE KILLING APPS) )
Hmph. I guess I'll have to do a major cleanup
38MB after boot.

Hi Guys,
I am currently running the CM7 ROM (7.1.0.6 Milestone-KANG) on my Milestone. While the ROM is much better and faster than the stock ROM it still gets slow and laggy sometimes (Overclocked to 800 MHz).
Please let me know which the are fastest Gingerbread based ROMs out there and is there anything else that can be done to increase the responsiveness of the device.
Cheers...
Chander
Try HO!NO 7.1.1. It is build from kabaldan source, Android 2.3.7 and I love it
Zatapatalkowane z MotoStone'a
Ultimate Milestone (formerly Ice and Fire) is the fastest ROM i've used.
i used ultimate mod (ice and fire) but switchted to HO!NO! then.
i had trouble with minfree settings (check thread) that it killed my apps...
HO!NO! is even faster, more beautiful (i love this ICS design and transitions) and reliable (not killing any app). i only had to adjust permissions in OR once.
I must disagree with you guys. Ho!NO! ROM is very RAM consuming.
OK it looks nice but the phone is slow and lags a lot.
Stock froyo ROM with setcpu works faster, you must admit it.
I flashed my milestone with HO!NO! after reading this thread but i`m dissapointed.
I think I`ll give a try with a vanilla cyanogenmod
@up, apply Supercharger from zeppelinrox with best settings that fits for you and then try

where i find vanilla cm rom to milestone?
Ultimate Milestone (formerly Ice and Fire), is my best. Only complaint was camera (as with any CM7 based), then downloaded MIUI Camera and I'm done!
If you are open to something else.... the FASTEST rom out there is by far TelusLite (eclair and no longer developed) but if you want brute speed... that is the way to go.
Enviado desde mi Milestone usando Tapatalk
i used CM6 from milaq 6.3.x - 6.3.4).... very fast and "low" RAM usage
then switched to CM7... it works well too but i feel the RAM usage when opening apps like MAPS to navigate or want to play some games. navigation browser and apps may close without warning...
then tried again milaqs CM6 (6.3.6)... it was ok but RAM usage is not good as the versions before...
i recommend milaqs 6.3.3 or 6.3.4... these two are ok, fast and you can use the most apps withouts errors.... and with supercharger you can get 60-70MB free RAM
IMHO, HO!NO! is the fastest ROM with moderate amount of RAM. I've tried all other ROMs like CM7, Ultimate Milestone, CM6, Cronos, MIUI... but they couldn't meet my need as HO!NO! does.
Ok it was like 2.3 works pretty smooth on the outside but gets really lag when you actully use any apps. 2.2 roms are much better but there's always a hard choice on which 2.2 is better since now most developers are focusing on 2.3

Regards,
I am currently using CM9 RC0 (built from source myself) and must say, despite the very early status I like it even better than the excellent CM7.1! It still has a few issues (e.g. keyboard backlight and camera don't work, though I think there is a fix for the former), however, overall, it feels much smoother to me. As always with our old Milestones, the biggest issue is memory... When limiting background apps to two, I have very little issues with that anymore.
Keep in mind though that this ROM is not intended for daily use, so you need to be as crazy as I am (remember, no camera)
can i use the HO!NO! in my Motorola Droid A855?
i recommend HO!NO! for milestone.. it works smooth and fast.. of course it comes with a great battery life

Not unless he's made a Droid version as well. Milestone and Droid ROMS are not interchangeable.
Thanks Guys!!!
Thanks a lot guys for your suggestions. i tried most of the ROMs but found Ho! No! to be the fastest. Even at 600 MHz the ROM is quite fast and smooth.
In fact I have been having a small problem with Ho! No! ROM. I am in India on AIRTEL 3G. Whenever I switch to 2G Network I tend to loose signal and after sometime the signal gets completely lost. If I remain in 3G only everything works fine but battery usage is obviously more. Moreover, recently after HO! NO! CM 7.1.3 I am not getting 3G speeds while internet browsing while being on 3G network.
Do I need to change my radio according to India (where to find the same and how to do it?)
I didn't have any such problems on CM 7!!!
So, ICS has been out for a while and people are getting it working on our phone quite well. Taking into consideration that most ICS ROMs aren't polished yet and most still have a few bugs to sort out, are you happy with it?
I'm not talking about what the devs here did to get it working on our phone (They are a bunch of little magicians, eh?), but what Google did creating it. I have tried a couple of ICS ROMs but I couldn't get it working properly on my SGS and went back to a stock Gingerbread ROM, so I am still not that aware of most of what ICS can do.
ICS is a big departure from Gingerbread and takes a bit of investigating to find where everything is, but that's part of the fun.
What would you change in ICS and what do you really like that wasn't there before, or has been improved?
I really like the Data Usage meter. It's a great tool for those who are always watching their monthly limits.
Ian
I enjoyed using ICS a lot, everything about it, from the look and feel of it to the smoothness and speed of the OS.
The only reason im back on GB is because of problems in the battery department, no matter what kernel I used, I had problems with the battery life.
Ill be definately making the switch once the roms mature more.
During last week I tried few ICS roms and finally I came back to GB JVU - SAUROM.
Last night i tested ICS CNA 1.4.0. It works quite well witch glitch kernel, but from my poiont of view it still not the same preformance what is in GB. I had some lags in app drawer. Settings menu was slow (with semaphore 0.8.1 very slow).
I overclocked to 1300 and it's improved performance but in AnTutu I reached 3008. In comparision to JVU Saurom it is over 400 less (in Saurom with Semaphore 2.5.0 my AnTutu results is 3480).
I like plays last "hi-end" games. I tried Modern Combat 2 under SAUROM and under CNA 1.4.0 (both overclocked to 1300Mhz) and under SAUROM JVU playing it's definitively better.
I'dont know what to do. I like ICS style, but I look for fast and stable system.
I'll join the question: how do you feel wit ics for SGS? and kind of ICS customs do you recommend for me?
Too bad we can't get the best Devs here to develop one version of ICS together. With all that firepower it should be no time before ICS ran perfect on the SGS.
I still don't understand why Samsung said they couldn't do ICS for the SGS when the Devs here can.
Ian
ics is smooth and a real eyecandy but actually i cant find a real lifechanging feature in it. was quite happy with 2.2, had unstable episode of stock kies 2.6 and endedup in aokp 2.1
ics works but im experiencing crazy bat drains from mediaserver and music playback on ics costs A LOT of battery
i guess i will flash 2.2 some day
Hello
I like the Slim version of ICS. I am currently using Slim 2.5 with the Semaphore_ICS_0.9.0 kernel.
With the CPU frequency set to 1100 (which is what I normally run) I get 3324* on the AnTuTu benchmark.
* 3335 + 3313= 3324 (average)
Note : One needs to be careful comparing AnTuTu scores using Semaphore_ICS_0.9.0 kernel. By this I mean that it is not necessarily a straight apples to apples comparison due to all the different kernel settings which are possible.
@+
I also use Slim with Semaphore kernel 0.9.0 and it has been an delight. ICS is so good that i would sell my phone if i had to go back to gb again Much of the bugs have been fixed by now, and really this custom roms are very stable. Onecosmio SGICS rc4.2 is also very good and polished. You could start with that one, also has great battery life in comparison with others.

I think its a bit laggy
but i might need another kernel? I don't know.
It looks good and there are a lot more options but i don't like the stock internet browser the one on gingerbread is great. Does exactly what i need it to and when you press the more button everything is in the right place.
Semaphore ICS 0.9.0 unable to get network
Flashed my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S (I9000 using on wind mobile) to Semaphore ICS 0.9.0 and unable to get on wind network...have tried practically almost a lot of things including flashing other ICS roms, used the radios suggested in the forums but am unable to get it to work. Can someone suggest me the correct modem file to be flashed?
I'm loving ICS I'm using TeamICSSGS rom runs perfectly I find everything to work well and I've ended up getting between 2-3days on battery depending on how I use it.
I have no clue what Samsung was every on about saying the Galaxy S will never get ICS well whats running pretty good on my Galaxy S then
I think it works great. I love the way ICS looks and feel and also the fact that my SGS its a bit different from most sgs's out there.
battery is still problematic but since being a heavy user I carry a charger where ever I go anyway.
bottom line... Love it

Few posts ago I wrote that I came back to GB. I was not happy with ICS becouse of many resons, but now I have to change my mind - RC4.2 runs great. I have one small issue with Gmail app (does not work) but I think that something could be wrong during installation becouse other users don't report this error. I have to reflash RC4.2 and test it again.
I like ics very much. The design, speed...but i hate is battery drain. When i had 2.3.6 I could be on phone 12 hours straight till 0% (massive gaming over 3g or wifi) it was great. But with ics max i get is 4 hours non stop...thats sad...I tryed everything from millions of battery apps to kernels to voltage and dont remember how many guides on utube/xda/android forums about it...
When that will be fixed im back to it, till than Ill be on stable 2.3.6 gaming

You have an unusual phone .... or battery. Since I bought my SGS I have to charge it every night. My best achievement was 24 hours (becouse I fell asleep and forgot to connect charger)
Ics feedback
from my exp dark knight 2.1 (4.0.4) is best more stable giving maximum battery life...ics is userfriendly, more smooth and more stable...
the only problem is battery life but it will not effects me more bcz i only use internet for mails and sometimes music plus it gives me 24 hour battery back up(gps off, wifi usage moderate, data plan always on)
I only have a few gripes about ICS (THICSSGS 4.0.3)
- The dialer is not idiot proof enough for me, I keep making unwanted calls.
- For some reason my photos keep showing up in duplicate or triplicate. Kind of pain since I use the camera for work and when I delete the duplicates they appear again the next day.
- Sound volume is to quite overall.
- Can't make an appointment in calendar without an Gmail or similar account to sync to.
- Did I mention the SOUND IS TOO QUITE?
Other than these few things the move to ICS has been a good one. Last week I got nearly 4 days on a single charge but its averaging out to 2 days now. With GB 2 days was pushing it.

question to heavy-music-users:
1. do you experience high cpu usage on mediaserver?
2. any issues with screen off wifi connection used by interney radios or shoutcast? in my case winamp pauses every 20-30 seconds
Comparing ICS to Gingerbread, ICS wins in every single aspect for me, except for the ability of Samsung roms to play a wide range of media formats. ICS is faster, more ram-efficient, looks better and runs games more smoothly than Gingerbread.
However, I was previously on Froyo 2.2.1 ZSJPK before using ICS, because I preferred Froyo to Gingerbread. So, comparing ICS to Froyo, there are several things that ICS loses out to Froyo. To name a few, Froyo has way more free ram, hence better multitasking. On Froyo, I can have the browser running a desktop version of facebook as well as NOVA 2 running in the background, without either being closed. But on ICS, it's hard to even run Angry Birds and Contacts at the same time due to the fact that on average, there is only about 60Mb of free space.
Hence, ICS wins in all ways except multitasking, but that is due to the Galaxy S' limitations, not the actual ICS itself.
i had all time the Goa Rom on my SGS i9000 and now two weeks the ICS open kang Projekt and i was happy i find it is so much better we gingerbread the speed is very well
the apks open so fast it works very good for me
greetz nobody
Been using ics since Dec. Very happy with it and won't go back to gingerbread.

Rwview of ►Simplistic Plus◄ 2.0 rom
Hi everyone this is my PERSONAL review of the ►Simplistic Plus◄ 2.0 rom
I've to start with this ROM becose for me i's the best, the smoothest and with less lag than ever.
GOOD;
The strength of the rom is the BATTERY LIFE...i can stay 3 day (with no so much intensive useand juice defender) without recharge it..IMPRESSIVE
-In the daily usage i've detected only few lag when you unlock (premise i like to use Go Launcher ex,with other launcher the lag is minor like 360 launcher,LauncherPro and the TwLauncher).
-I'm realy impressive of the wifi usage,i had really big problem with others Roms but in this is very stable and does not conflict with juice defender
-The Ram Management is perfect for me,about 90\70 mb free. With Go Taskmanager you can free the ram to 160\140 mb
-No problem with incoming call, sms, gps or the camera
To IMPROVE;
-I realy like the Gingerbread style but i think the Ics style should be implemented to ensure that the rom is in step with the times
-In some rom i've found the possibilty to change the loocksreen theme without use lockerapp like Golocker or MiLocker, would be nice
BAD;NOTHING FOR MY USE,some lugs but just few istant and no force closed

Review of - broodROM RC5 -
Hi there,me again this time the review is on The broodROM RC5.
I flash the rom using the CWM Recovery file found in the page of the [ROM][KQB][ODIN] - broodROM RC5 -
Here the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396837
I've to said that this ROM is realy smooth and stable.I've tried the Rc4 but i don't like it but this new version is a AWESOME.
GOOD:
-Very beautiful ICS style theme.setting menu similar to 4.0 really.
Battery, phone singnal and wifi icons are turned in a light blue very cool.
ICS Call keyboard, add in the call log on the right of the contact a shortcut phone icon for a fast call but still there the slide to call or sms.Good idea
-Fast and clean usage.Skyhigh Kernel is alwasy good
-Ram usage perfect,80mb free-145 mb when freed
-- Extended Status Bar 13 Buttons
BAD:
Not so much things to say.
-Few Wifi lost signal
-Few lag on the screen unlock
-with Antutu benchmark the score is under 4000.I know it don't mean nothing int he usage of the rom but I like the high Scores ù
-NEWS: After instal the rom the usb wire,my computer don't open the phone like removable device and don't syncr with kies...this is soo bad
hi guys i've used nitrox 3.0 and cranium 7 & 8 but the best than i ever used is moonrom...no lag, no random reboot excellent battery life with OC/UV ... and i'll change it only when CM9 it's full working..

Review of Nitro Galaxy 5.0 Andromeda
Hi again this time i review the Italian ROM
The Rom is quite good, ics style and updated very frequently (it pass from 3.0 to 5.0 in 1 month, synonymous of a frequent developed and hard work)
in the rom it's installed android assistant (that i don't like) and have no archive only use ES GESTORE pre-installed.Also installed Equlizer and a real good music player.
Different battery icon so cool but no so much readable
I'd like to have the possibility to choose the locksreen style like pendolum rom
here the link of the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641450
4208 antutu 1804 clocked
Quiet good rom for the daily usage and i think it will be improved again soon,so keep work guys _--_HIGHLY RACOMENDED-__-

Well it's depend. If you need good batery management i can say that Gigabred+ is the best- about 2-3 days without any problem About permormance - I used Moonrom, and i can say, it's veeeery good
about ICS, i think AOKP Kang
Review of Nitro Galaxy 6.0 Andromeda
The new rom is very similar to the 5.0
Some changes but the team made a good job, improved the smoothes of the rom very fast and stable...Very very good
I don't like the gb telephone keyboard,i prefer the ics style
Also improved the battery drain
MIUI
I like MIUI very much because of its incredible design.
Battery life is ok and performance good too.

Broodrom rc5! Splendid ics theme with high benchmark and he's still improving for the business version(still in beta). CM9 would also be good(alpha) but it still has some bugs so I would recommend Broodrom rc5.

Are you referring to broodrom rc5?
Advantages: high benchmark, zero lag on my phone, 13 status bar icons with ics theme, ics boot animation, 99% bug-less
Disadvantages: based on gingerbread(i prefer ics), screen on takes around 2 or 3 seconds(will be fixed on revision 2)
CM9
Advantages: ics rom, best rom overall(not for now), love the lockscreen compared to broodrom
Disadvantages: Camera still not working properly, FM radio can't work(doesn't matter at all for me) USB tethering can't work(main reason why I flash back to broodrom), a few bugs.

3500mAh Battery review

3500mAh is twice the stock ampere battery.
First 2-3 full charge it have 2 days life, after it can stay 3 days with juice defender properly optimized.
Realy fantastic for my usage and i've pay only EUR 15,99 with a new satinated black cover
Here some photo of the battery drain....from the 20% i've dowloaded the game six gun and play for 10 minutes, otherways it can last more
if you want try it go on ebay and write : Samsung galaxy i9000 3500mha

best rom is cm9 yhat created with hands of ivendor
Hi guys,i've a question for all of you
After flash lots rom i see that after 7-8 days the terminal become very slow,i've try MIUI,Biohazard,CM9 and both the AOKP rom's but everytime the same problem
Have this problem too???
Hey y'all...
I recently bought myself a SGS3 to mess around with and would like to give me SGS1 to my wife who is hating her iPhone so much after she broke her HTC Aria... She might be slightly under influence since I am dissing Apple all the time... anyways...
I am looking for the most stable rom for SGS, if that is Darky's last Samsung based rom that is like 1 year old now... then so be it (I am currently almost convinced that would be it). Either this or AOKP build 40 seem the most 2 stable ones.
I know for sure it is not any of the JB stuff out here because as beautiful as it is, her main occupation is calling and taking food pictures and JB didn't get the cam vs gallery apps right yet... so it should be...
1. stable, stable... without horses... just stable!
2. having a perfect cam / gallery implementation
3. no lag (she comes from iPhone, she is used to silky smooth phone usability)
4. speed... (for the same reason as point 3)
What do you recommend and why?
Ty ~
[edit] EZBASE 4 seems to be the most stable hmm
[edit 2] o god I forgot how awful GB looked like and slow even after lagfix... back to ICS... trying http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790906 now...
CM 9 stable release. Almost flawless. Just make sure you supercharge it. The ram management isn't so good and the phone will become slugish with ~40 MB free RAM.

And there is my problem, how many apps now don;t have support for 2.2? Bećuase i heared "foryo is the best one for our X8, but many apps don't working, bećause froyo is too old and don;t have support for many apps" This is truth or not?
Important for me is multitask and good design.
Thanks for help!
Of course: more and more apps not running on froyo.
Use any gingerbread rom, this will give the best performance/compatibility ratio. The most app run on API level 10 (2.3.3+) and all gb rom give significant better multitasking performance than any "supersmooth" jb rom.
Anyway the choice is your...
Froyo: best performance/multitask, limited app compatibility
Gingerbread: good performance/multitask, good app compatibility (more than 90% of apps running)
ICS/JB: average performance, critical multitask, best app compatibility

Okey i only want to know about apps, so i stay in GB, Thanks for info Pilu!
But now whićh GB ćhoiće. xD
Btw Thanks!
You can choice any gb rom, the performance differences is minimal.
I can suggest only: use clean cm7 rom (minicm7 or gdx) and make your own design with themes/apps.
Try some tweaking method, but better if you NOT combine too much tweaks because mixing of different tweaks can make conflicts and can decrease the performance...
The design is relative, some member like the small, fat, dark haired women, some like the tall, slim, blondes...
(personally I hate the holo design, my wife's xperia ray have much better user interface with gb than my Z with jb...)
I have the same dilema, I've been away from these forums for a long time now since I decided to stop "ROM swapping" and stuck with GingerDX, but even GingerDX is slow when trying to do a simple google search, or any real-world scenario usage.
Actually after a (not very long) google search, I arrived to the conslusion that the vast majority of apps still require Android 2.2 MINIMUM, and those that say otherwise usually require Android 4.0 or higher anyway.
FroyoPro is only not the first option because it's very outdated in terms of stock apps and even libs/kernel support. if Anyone was to update it and make it work on nAa-05 I bet it would be the best ROM on our devices.
GB rom
i think XPeria soul engine is quite good and stable rom .. good for multi tasking and bug free..
design is also good..
and very very light wieght
using with nAa kernel 14 is a good combination.

FroyoPro should update, but anyone haven't permision for thath, unfortunately. Best experinće for me is FroyoPro (good auto brig, life battery, and simple, but a lot of my apps have suppor 2.3+), If 4.1.2 rund in our deviće like GB, my dilema will gone, but unfortunately for me 4+ is only for desing not for daily using

You're free to build up on FroyoPro as long as you make it clear that it's an update on FroyoPro. The latest FroyoPro available is from another developer other than the original already.
