Hey guys,
I updated my galaxy s to a custom ROM yesterday.. Battery started draining and phone was heated all the time it was turned on.
As it was discharging very quick, I plugged in the charger, phone was heated up and I suddenly got a whole green screen on phone.
I removed out battery instantly, I let it cool.. again inserted the battery and started. I got the same green display. I tried to put phone in recovery or download mode, I am getting same green display everytime I start phone.
Phone is working flawlessly as I can get phones and message tones, even touch is working. I can hear lock and unlock sound when I slide my finger over phone screen. Only thing is display is not working.
Now, What should I replace? is Digitizer working? Will samsung cover this under warranty (I've installed custom ROM on my phone) if not what will be total cost of repairs?
I dont know what might be wrong but maybe you can tell us what custom rom caused this issue so we can avoid it ?
not sure on a solution, but if you flash a standard ROM using Odin, then you can return it to Samsung and tell them that after updating to Froyo using Kies you have this problem.
as the firmware on the phone will be the official firmware then i cant see any reason why your warranty wouldn't cover it [thats what i did anyway]. just make sure you flash the phone, modem and csc files to totally restore to stock.
BTW this may also sort you problem.

The other day my screen stopped responding to my touch completely (only about 2 months old). The phone would randomly put itself into airplane mode and when I turned that off I was still able to send and receive text messages. I was unable to view my contacts folder or make calls though because android.phone or various other processes would crash when I tried. So I did a hard reset on my phone to see if that would fix my screen problem and now I cannot even send or receive text because I am stuck at the startup for the device and am unable to complete the startup because I cannot touch the screen. The red light of death comes up briefly when the phone is plugged in but goes away very quickly even with the battery in. The phone boots normally although it seems to take a little bit longer than usual. Does anyone have any idea on what is going wrong and how I can fix my screen?
Thanks!
this sounds like a hardware issue. if your phone is covered by the warranty then just call your provider and they should send you a new one.
is your phone rooted?
My G1 is stuck like this too, although mine was waterlogged so it's no longer under warranty @[email protected]
no it's not rooted
You can try to reflash the stock rom to see if that will help or you can root it and load a custom rom and see if that will make any difference. You can always use your trackball to navigate. If all that doesn't work then like david said its a hardware problem and is covered under warranty.
I can't scroll to navigate because the initial setup after a hard reset requires touch. Where do I find the info on re-flashing the stock rom?
Just find the official t mobile rom and flash like you would any rom. Put the update.zip on root of sd card then power on phone with home + power then in your case I would wipe (alt + w) then update (alt + s). I would try to find you a link but I'm bout to be leaving work. A google search will come up with it or someone else might chime in and give you a link.

Try this.
i'm going to need the rogers stock rom ,not the t-mobile one I can't seem to find it anywhere. also will reflashing the stock rom void the warranty in any way. i assume it won't since there would be no way for them to tell but just double checking.

I may have bricked my phone while flashing with odin to stock froyo 2.2 rom. The download mode works but i cannot get into recovery mode it just flashes at the logo screen gt-i9000m over and over and over again.
Is there a way past this or do i have to send this phone in for repair?
I have stock everything.
My phone battery died and I have spare batteries and changed it to a fully charged one. It booted up and said that a bunch of apps have to be FORCE closed... so I rebooted it.
Now it's doing the same thing yours is... the logo screen flashes over and over.
I pulled the battery to hard boot it. Then without turning it on I plugged it in to charge... so it tries to go to the charging battery icon and then flashes the logo screen over and over again.
This is my second phone... first one kept eating battery life and got real real hot.
omg stoopid samsung. I can get into download mode just fine, when i reflash it just stuck at the boot logo. Are you able to send yours away for repairs? i have mine unlocked but i also got warranty from where i bought it at wireless wave. i rather not send it in though...
I couldn't get into any menu's... sent the piece of **** away for repairs. I almost threw it at the wall behind the clerk at the bell store.
same boat here, i woke up this morning to find a bunch of forced closed messages. so i hit okay, my phone was all screwy so i turned it off, pulled out the battery, put it back in and started the phone and ta-da the galaxy S TEXT (not logo) kept...well it looks like it would boot over and over again just to the title screen, shut off and boot again. If i do the 3 button press to get to download mode i see that screen and i cant do anything else, actually i dont know what to do there.
I bought this thing in august so i am good for warranty, oh i haven't once rooted or lagfixed or anything, i just unlocked it, and with rogers instead of bell, but yeah i called bell and they refuse to help. The guy was not cool with me unlocking the phone, says i might not be covered under warranty anymore.
Next week i am going to take it to the bell repair center in person, see what they say.
Not sure what to do now. EFF!
Last samsung phone ever. the LG optimus 2X looks pretty awesome.
I'm having the same issue, my phones all stock.
When I got my phone this morning is was turned off, I plugged it in, powered it up, saw the Samsung logo and intro play and I walked away. When I came back I tired using my phone but only the lights, on the buttons, turn on but the screen and the rest of the phone doesn't respond. The lights will stay on forever.
If you can get into download mode, have you tried flashing it with some other Rom? Like DocX custom rom?

Try booting into recovery mode (vol-up, home and power). Do you get an error message under the menu? If so, report it here or do a search on that specific error. It appears that some errors are easily recoverable from via flashing while others are not.
gtg2 - Try booting into recovery mode (vol-up, home and power). Do you get an error message under the menu? If so, report it here or do a search on that specific error. It appears that some errors are easily recoverable from via flashing while others are not.
The flash will go through completely and pass, as soon as it reboots to the Gt-i9000m logo it will just loop continuously. even when you hold down vol-up, home and power, it just doesn't recongize those buttons but will recongize vol down, home, power what gives?
Valinorian - If you can get into download mode, have you tried flashing it with some other Rom? Like DocX custom rom?
Yeah tried darkys 5.6 rom, does the same thing shows gt-i9000m logo then loops it self
dtran00 - that sucks man, but bell offers unlock codes so i dont' see how that can void your warrenty when you have to pay $70 for the unlock codes no?
Spudsicles - hopefully i won't have any troubles but i might end up throwing it at them lol
Seriously this is a good phone but the problems omgosh.
regarding everyone with the boot loop errors, Sounds like you have got the corrupted internal memory. This is a common problem everyone has been having including me. You will have to send the phone off at bell. I'm still waiting for mine to come back to me, sent it off Dec 1, although some people are reporting repair times within 5 business days.
To the best of my knowledge, that does NOT necessarily indicate flawed internal memory. I've experienced a few errors myself - one was a real SDCard issue which required repair while the others I was able to recover from.
Have you tried reflashing firmwares via Odin with the repartition option checked?
Have you tried booting into recovery using ADB? I'm not an ADB pro myself but do know it's possible. You'll have to google for instructions.
So This morning I decided to give my phone a restart, when I am holding the button to turn the phone one and the samsung boot screen comes on (the white one thats says I896 and samsung in white) and then after that it just goes blank and you can here it play that noise that it would normally make with the samsung boot screen.
After waiting on the blank screen for a few minutes I touched the buttons and the button lights came on. I pulled out the battery and I was able to boot the phone in the recovery screen where i tried to clear all user data and clear the cache, this did't change anything.
This phone was on android 2.1 stock build for rogers, with z4root and oclf (oneclicklagfix) v2 or v2.2 i think. I bought this phone on sunday so it is pretty new.
I am wondering what I should do about this, I spoke to my friend and he said He should be able to fix it with odin and even put 2.2 on it. If anyone has ever had this happen to them or they know anything about it i would be happy to know.
Rather than having your friend void your warranty, why not just return it?
if he purchased it from a reseller such as craigslist or ebay, then he might not be able to take his phone in though. Odin1click to stock usually solves soft-brick like issues though..
So i have a big problem. Lets start from the beginning.
1. At first have done nothing weird, just normal phone usage (browsing) while charging. When it has come to 100% charged, after few moments the boot screen suddenly appeared. I removed the battery and tried to restart the phone but phone screen was black, i left it like this for few minutes (switched off) and then again connect phone to charger and turn it on and screen was somehow alive.
2. So i have decided to backup all programs with titanium backup and when backuping was in progress the screen stuck/dies again.
3. I restart phone again in to bootloader (thinking it was something wrong with the rom) relock bootloader and instal stock ruu. And screen is steel dead. When the phone starts up only vibrates and you hear a boot sound from stock rom. And when i connect it to charger (switched off) it takes a few seconds before the LED turns red. Before that I think that is immediately activated (i'm just thinking).
So.. is the possibility that the screen died or is a mistake in the software?
Thanks in advance.
Maybe it overheate, because you used your phone while charging, my sister had a similar problem, the motherboard overheate or something, she then get a replacment. Or maybe u should try another battery, because when i had my previous phone the DHD i had similar problem, and after replacing the battery everything was OK. I hope you find a solution to your problem. One more guestion ,what Rom did you used when that problem occur.
I have used runny-bliss 1.2. I left device switched off whole night and nothing, it starts but screen is black. Why u think that it is battery?

Well i had similar problem with Desire HD. Tell me something else ,when you go to CWM ( if you can ) does the screen work then ?
No screen is dead, so i cant go to cwm. It is possible yes, but only pressing butons(vol. down + power) but no visible image/screen
The proof that cwm works is successfully locked BL and installed stock eu ruu (for warranty )
..so device starts normal when i push power button, stock boot sound plays, bottom buttons light up, but no picture
Yea it would be best to get it fixed. You wont missed anything here do.
I'll give the phone to the technician and i hope they will not see that device have been unlocked
interesting...but your phone start...so its not bricked...why so complicated..why you did not make a full wipe..also use the bindroid full wipe and flash the rom again..?
with kind regards
edit: sorry read all now..and see you can not get to cwm...but it load if you plug to charger..? mmmhhh...sounds like a display problem...but why..?

I was planning to do this after screen "died" first time, but when i run backup proces with titanium backup, the screen died again in the midle of backup proces so "I had hands tied". Since then the screen aint working. So only possible choice was pressing buttons to get into bootloader and lock it and install stock ruu.
Edit:
Dont know why the screen has died after device charged to 100%, some scroling in menu was procided, then htc boot logo appears (like device wants to restart, but ain't working). So i turned it off ( removed the battery) and turned it on again, then my non working screen story starts..

Sorry to hear about your phone. Mine died one day for no reason too. I managed to get mine replaced though. For the price tags. I think these phones should be better made. Maybe we should all.complain to HTC about the build quality of this device.

So the device is back
The motherboard was changed.. So its possible that overclocking has killed motherboard, or what could be wrong here ?
I'm asking for further rooting and flashing roms and custom kernels.

the same here !
was on my S-XL like normal charging it .. and browsing .. after dis connecting the charger the screen went off I thought it's another software error removed the battery placed it up again .. powered it up .. but no display the software booted up with no display !!
and it's not even that hot it used to be !
oh come on that ****ing technical support .. they have just replaced me the screen for hundreds of cash .. they are damn **** !
So my phone was in a boot loop a while back and I fixed it by restoring my back up boot. I had never flashed a rom or a kernal to my device and ran very few root apps on my phone. So I was texting my woman a picture of two of her kids and my screen went black and my phone was unresponsive. I tried to boot into boot loader and nothing happened. My phone doesnt respond to anything. No boot loader, my pc cant find device, i cant turn it on, the charge light doesnt turn on (and i know my charger works). Is there any way to fix this problem? If not will AT&T honor my warranty? I heard the phone is a ***** to take apart and it doesnt have water damage or anything i have no clue what happened to it. Am I screwed or can I get them to replace this device. Any personal experience with my carrier would be amazing. Thanks so much guys. I'll be checking back frequently as I want to get the phone fixed ASAP.

If the device is still under warranty they should be able to give you a new one. Call att. tell them what happened they would probably send you a new charger at no cost. since you already know whats going on, all you gotta do is take it to a att repair shop. before you get the new charger of course.
