[Q] Can you invert a video? - G Tablet Themes and Apps

I'm sure every one knows that your g tab screen looks best upside down if you lay it on a desk in front of you. Can you invert or flip the video on rockplayer or any other video player?

Not that I'm aware of.
Put it on a stand or a case that has the ability to be used as a stand. You could always try this simple solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10099907&postcount=10

The ES Video Player that is part of ES File Explorer will flip the video properly and automatically if you flip your tablet.

Thanks for the information on the stand and the esplayer.

Better than HTC Album?

Hi,
Anyone know application like HTC Album but better?
An application that can view IMAGES and VIDEOS .. but it is finger friendly, easy to operate (zoom, delete, go back).
HTC Album is ok, but it could not view videos ... and sometimes very hard to zoom (does it really work???).
Thanks.
PocketCM image viewer IMO is the best still image viewer, unfortunately will not preview videos
I used to use HTC album, tried PocketCM picture viewer and liked it, but found it too hard to navigate. It would zoom in when I didn't want it to, change pictures accidently. Now I use A_C's S2V, really like it, quick and easy to zoom in and out with the D-pad.
Hi,
use resco photo explorer
I agree, in my opinion, S2V is the best software to view still images.
I'm not sure if there are any softwares out there made to view still images and videos. I think it's one or the other.
I use right now HTC Album 2 with SJ's Full Player plugin so I can play video directly within. Not the greatest but it will do for now.
I think the best solution is using resco photo explorer
Eyephoto's pretty good too, no video though...
Kinoma Play
I've heard good things about Kinoma Play, http://kinoma.com/play/
Being commercialware, I have yet to try it.
how can i change the sort order in HTC Album?
first image in preview is the last in explorer and so on
i would like to have it sorted upwards

You probably have an old build of HTC Album. The stock build on my HTC Touch Cruise zoomz very easily (via touch screen and jog dial). I once tried an XDA build, but found that gestures would often cause rotation when I wanted to zoom, and zoom when I wanted to rotate.
As for videos, HTC album does preview them, but when you click on it, it opens them in Windows Media Player. Is this the behavior that you experience?
You could try the new HTC album floating around from the Opal/Manilla 2D.

Best music app?

Looking for a full features (think iPod with a good widget) music player app that displays album are beautifully with the Widget on the desktop and is also quite useful... opinions ?
So there are no good music apps for Android?
Go with Cubed (^3) and you will never look back. Granted the 5.1 surround sound in the stock player was nice but I don't miss it.

Awesome music player, thanks
MixZing is really good and full features. Only con is it's expensive at $6.99
I use the Music player from the Cyanogen ROMs. I found it over on their forum somewhere.

Can't seem to find it over there, could you help me out mate?
I like the Samsung player. My only complaint with it is that it's a bit tedious to set up playlists on, and no widget surpoort. There are a number of really great widgets for the stock Android player, for which I believe I saw a thread that will help you install it, but I haven't gone through the effort to install it so I can't comment much on it.
Cubed is kind of a neat player, great for showing off, but the eye candy makes browsing fairly inefficient (imho), and having the controls at the top of the screen is a pain.

Cubed is good unless you plan on using the lock screen option, then it's garbage.
I was unimpressed with ^3/Cubed. Nice eye candy, but hardly functional.
I have Mixzing installed and it seems useful, but it's my secondary music player right now.
TuneWiki was cool for the lyrics display feature, but the interface is ugly as all hell.
DoubleTwist is the nicest looking and most polished of the bunch, but also no support for m3u playlists not synced via the DoubleTwist client (which was unacceptably slow for me). Maybe I'm just using it wrong.
The default Samsung player would have been great if it would just recognize my m3u playlists. WTF, Samsung.
As is, I actually installed the stock Android player. It's minimal and functional. I've heard MusicMod is a nice addition to it, but it looks like the latest version is only supported on Froyo.
I ended up going back to the default Samsung Player. The lock screen widget works the best of all the apps I tried and it has no issue seeing my playlists I sync over using iSyncr. Its biggest weakness is the lack of controls via the headset button. Play/Pause works but no forward or back.
A friend used bTunes which looks the nicest out there IMO. A close second was Doubletwist but the lack of a lockscreen widget was a deal breaker. Thing I hate the most from all 3rd party apps I tried (aside from dT) was that they all indexed multiple copies of my playlists. It was a pain trying to guess which of the 4-6 copies of my playlists I saw would actually have the music inside them and I got tired of always deleting the blank ones everytime I sync'd.
If Samsung can add some additional headset controls and a smart playlist feature I will be very happy.
I have to say though that the stock Samsung Player is quite handy and non-laggy.
I especially like the 5.1 option, which is god-like.
Other than that, it doesn't have many features but it is convenient.
Nobody has mentioned Meridian; I like it quite a lot.

I'm with you. The 5.1 in my car sounds amazing. I wish I had two options though:
1. I want to "lock" to landscape, without auto-rotate to the CD GUI.
2. It only rotates one way! Turn the phone on it's right side, and the CD GUI is upside down.
If these two issues had workarounds, it would be perfect.
I like DoubleTwist....
I've been using btunes with Widget locker to get lock screen controls. Works nicely!
I use museek. I loved the samsung player but the only issue with it was the sever lack of a random play mode.
Museek REQUIRES ID3 tags.
Museek supports album covers, Last.FM scrobbling, Sleep(auto stop), Lock Orientation,Gapless playback, and its free.
Play modes are: Repeat all, Shuffle (with the option to shuffle whole collection or just with in the playlist), Smart shuffle, Play similar songs (with the option to avoid repeating an artist until a specified threshold of songs have played).

Stock Samsung player has shuffle. Tap the screen and it's the two intertwining arrows just above the progress bar on the left.
So what players have a lock screen function? I hate the dang lock screen on this thing. Maybe I can turn it off, never thought about that.. heh.
The ONLY thing that I don't like about the stock music player is the fact that songs without album art show some gay-looking colored circles... Why not just a simple neutral graphic? Why not give an option to change the default picture?

I cannot connect my phone with TV's with hdmi

Everything is connected properly. No notice of an HDMI cable to the phone. It is not rooted.
My phone is Milestone XT720, Android 2.1.
Try going to your gallery viewer and then to menu and you should have a button to display on tv. There might be some options in market to display all the time, but I really have no idea.

Try a different hdmi port on the tv. If that doesnt work, try a different tv. If that doesnt work, it could be a bad cable.
The gallery works, thanks, but I want to watch movies with RockPlayer.
try real hdmi
not sure if it works on milestone but its worth a shot
http://www.appbrain.com/app/real-hdmi/com.gmanapps.realhdmi
EDIT:never mind seems to be droid x only
Rock Player doesnt output to hdmi.
Real HDMI not install for me, I'll wait until update 2.2 and will try then. Thank you.
Moved to Milestone Forum, as it has nothing to do with Android Programming

You can get your homescreen to
Appear on Tv by the following trick
Launch Gallery apps (not media gallery)
Play a short hd video (recorded with your xt720)
Select display on tv
Wait for video to finish
This will display the gallery.
Press back button
Your homescreen will be displayed on tv
The only limitation is that your xt720 lcd screen will be stuck in video control mode and your have to guess where to touch the screen!

Thanks, but...
Launch Gallery apps (not media gallery)

Select display on tv

Display gallery show for a second and leave a TV screen immediately. Not stuck ... I tried several times. : (
Once i select DISPLAY ON TV show comes to incoming calls, whether to receive or NO, YES his election, whether this prolem?
I usually select YES for incoming call. Are you definitely using the Gallery app as it does not work in Media Gallery app?
Maybe try a different video, that sometimes help.
Also what software version are you on. I am using a uk xt720 with s/w
Ver str_u2_01_1e.0

Yes, I tried both, same result. : (
Version is the same - str_u2_01_1e.0
I just try few minutes ago. Needed few attempts to get this trick working. Not very reliable!!!
Best to have gallery in landscape mode and play at least 10 seconds of 720p video.
Also I checked rock player app and unfortunately it does not play full screen. Only youtube and default player seem to play full screen.otherwise you get only the 854x480 resolution which is only a fraction of your tv screen.
Sent from my Milestone XT720 using XDA App
Alright, thank you. After all, the pictures of the screen didn't stuck, after the video the tv just turn off. I will wait for update 2.2
Thanks again
I think the video player application has to support "Display on Tv" to get full screen. Hopefully there will be an app for that in the future

[Q] how to take screen shot of video

Is there a way to take a screen shot of a video being played on any of the video players on the Samsung galaxy note. For non rooted phones please. I have tried using spen for various players but just get a blank screen shot for videos.
1 Pause
2 Slide hand across the screen
You cannot, not unless you can convince your player to use software rendering as opposed to overlays.
If you need one frame only from video, there is nice app from market: Frame grabber.

Yes just need one frame for taking screenshot for labelling parts etc for powerpoint slides for teaching purposes. For example any teaching videos of procedures or ultrasound scan guided interventional procedures if I have a video but I need a frame at various stages to label the parts and use that frame as powerpoint slide. Will try the frame grabber you mentioned. Thanks.
Screencast on your Note Smartphone possible, but...

Screecasts without root access my experience, are almost impossible. There are options to root your phone. With Stockrom by Samsung you get problems. With a CustomROM CM 4.2.2 it´s working fine. The color error you also get solved. Watch PsionparkVideo on Youtube and search for "Screencast color failure corrected "

How to stream YouTube 3D SBS to your GVR.

This is a bit of an inelegant solution, but it works and will allow you to enjoy YouTube Streaming to your GVR until Oculus enables it in the cinema. This only works with 3D SBS video.
You need three bits:
1) Titanium Backup (to freeze Gear VR Service).
2) YouTube App.
3) Window Manipulator (if you prefer a letterbox experience).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-window-manipulator-t2846784
The reason for the Window Manipulator is if you wish to create a "fake letterbox" effect to make your view more similar to the Void Theater. Pretty subjective so find what works for you. My favorite overscan settings are 100,0,0,0. YMMV.
If you prefer full immersion, you may find scenes with actors speaking a bit disconcerting because the central focal point has you looking at their mouths as they speak. The trick is to focus on their eyes and you'll be good. This is easier if you move the GVR a bit lower in your face.
1st you need to DISABLE GEAR VR SERVICE on your Note 4 so you can plug into your GRV without Oculus Home Launching. I did this by freezing it in Titanium Backup.
Once you have that set just open a 3D SBS (4k is best) video in the YouTube app and start it. Try not to touch the screen as you do this or you may turn off or minimize your video accidentally. This process will seem awkward at first but will improve as you get used to it.
Once your GVR is on, open your eyes as wide as you can then relax them. This will let your visual focus adjust and the video should be crystal clear. You can set up the YouTube so you select a series of videos and it will play one after the other saving you from putting on and off the GVR.
Hope that helps. Have fun.
Great idea. Thanks
I have not root!
Gesendet von meinem SM-N910F mit Tapatalk
What i did is downloaded the video in the utube 3d sbs via tubemate. Then put the folder to the oculus 3d. Anyway thanks for this idea though?
Side note (about using titanium backup )
I have noticed if you gingerly connect your note 4 to your headset (gear vr) it won't connect to gear vr's main interface, so basically I do this when viewing Google cardboard apps (just a Lil quicker than disabling and enabling stuff ...
