For those running cognition 3.04, does anyone else notice sometimes when you press the side volume rocker, it only controls the media volume. I would exit apps and wait a while but it doesn't seem to do anything. I can access ring volume by manually changing it in the sound settings panel. I would then have to restart my phone in order for the rocker to control ring volume again. I've tried locking and unlocking phone, but seems only a reboot will reset the rocker's control. Does anyone else have this issue?
Sorry, I don't seem to have the problem. Maybe reflash?

hmm I followed the instructions on how to flash from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364. i was coming from eclair so i didn't wipe with odin. so if i were to reflash, does it mean running clockwork again and choosing to install from sd card again, and selecting wipe data and cache as well? I've read in some threads you should use odin to go back to 2.1 then flash again with clockwork. Others have skipped that step altogether and used clockwork directly. sorry i am noob to the flashing scene, didn't want to wait for an AT&T update that probably won't come for a while. glad i found a way with users here to empower my own device
i followed there youtube vid to the t, it worked like a champ no troubles with anything.
Could be a bad flash +1

I just flashed a battery mod on my galaxy s.
But i think i downloaded the Wrong one!!! When i did a reboot, the process 'android.phone' stopped working. Mmmm.. OK.
Tried a factory reset through the 3 button menu. Well now it does not do anything, i can see the boot movie, but then i get a Black screen with an heartbeat on the vibration thingy.
I did not panic and tried to flash an other firmware. Well it did not work. I see the boot movie, but then the screen blacks out and nothing works......
I searched for this, but i didnt get a good answer on how to solve this.
So if anyone is kind enough to help me, and tell me what to do in simple steps.
The same here. I used version D for JP6 & the 2nd method.
I had to reflash the softwear.
Exact same problem with me, had to reflash. Could someone tell the guy who has the battery mod thread?

1st. You need to flash a fresh firmware I suggest a official one so you can download the latest JP6 from kies without knifing the registry. you can get those firmwares from http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm but you need to register first. And here are the intructions how to flash http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/sho...and-and-flash-newer-firmware-to-your-Galaxy-S
2nd. After a succesfull flash go to recoverymode (shut down device, hold: vol-up, home and power)
wipe cache and do a factory reset just incase, and boot your device.
3rd. Install JP6 through Kies
edit:
BTW im a noob who did just this after i messed my phone to a state like mentioned in op So i dont take any responsibility about any damage you do to your phone. I did something like this and now i have official JP6 inside my sgs and its flying
I have a samsung captivate and i have been using the ROM fasty 2.5 for the past few months and i noticed there was a fasty III 1.3, So i went into my clockwork recovery and back up'd my system and data and whiped it all and proceeded to install the ZIP to my phone. When it all had finished i tried to reboot my phone and i got this staticy screen and then it would repeatedly restart over and over back to the static. So i then forced it to stay off and tried to boot it up to the recovery menu by holding the volume buttons and the power button and it can't boot to the recovery menu. Instead it just stays at the I896 screen. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem? i need my phone working as soon as possible so any help would be very much appreciated!
Sounds to me like you didn't flash the GB bootloaders. Might need to get yourself a jig and then flash the right bootloaders

I checked all the sticky notes and the web and it looks like these all include me messing around with the insides of my phone and tinkering with the hardware. I am not very comfortable doing that or do i have the understanding or tools to mess with that. Is there anything i can do software related to unbrick this. Or is my phone truly F'd?
No worries! I ended up using odin3 to restore it. Thank you very much for your help anyways! i will be sure to grab those GB loaders this time.
I just used Odin to flash Darky's 10.2 RE (with plans to flash 10.2.2 and DarkCore 4.1 over it) from the Stock 2.3.5 with Bootloaders and before I did anything else to the phone, I checked to see if the softkeys are acting the way they should. This is because I tried to do it straight from Darky's 9.5 ROM and it caused the Home key to act like the back button, the Back key to act like a left arrow button, and the Search key to act like a right arrow button. The menu button is acting normally. As I said i used an Odin One-Click to flash back to stock and it fixed the softkeys. After trying AGAIN to flash to 10.2 RE the softkeys are acting EXACTLY the same as before.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is it a bug or am I doing something wrong here?
I thought possibly i need to use Odin to flash 10.1 first.
I'm going to use the One-Click to flash back to stock until I get a solution.
Thanks in advance everyone!

You need a reoriented kernel. It's acting as though you have an i9000. If auto rotation works, then you do have one but need to remap the button keys. I made a thread a while back on how to do it -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325867
Edit: after reading your post again it sounds like you're saying this happened before you flashed anything over the RE? If so, no wonder. You still need to flash the captivate kernel which should be reoriented and have the button fixes

I kinda suspected it was a kernel issue. Since my old boot screen displayed I9000 then I897 afterwards. So I should ignore the button issue until I flash 10.2.2 over it..or would that be darkcore, THEN 10.2.2? I think the autorotate did work btw. I'll try it thanks.
PS If that's the case the instructions need to be changed to tell people to flash a cappy kernel after the 10.2 RE base right?

The reason it showed i9000 then i897 is because you have i9000 bootloaders which is okay and shouldnt affect button mapping. You should flash 10.2.2 then the kernel
Okay so..i kinda goofed up a little cause i pushed the kernel with Odin after 10.2 RE. I went ahead and tried this before checking for another post. I decided to flash 10.2.2 over that and pushed the kernel again with Odin. Only key that doesn't work now is the home key. I'm going to start from scratch tomorrow and do everything in the right order.
Thanks for your help!

Well it sounds like everything is working but that I think you should just try remapping the home key it's not too hard and will save you the reflashing trouble
Ok, is there a thread that shows how to do that?

Yes. The thread I posted above. Or i might also suggest reflashing the rom but wiping data amd cache in cwm before flashing the rom.
Also dont forget to press thanks if ive helped you

Also I thought I'd mention that I can't go directly from recovery mode to download mode. The button combos to get into download mode from the phone being turned off aren't working, probably for the same reason everything else is screwed up. I have the reboot the phone and use the enhanced power menu to reboot into recovery mode and download mode. Not sure if that messes with clearing the cache and/or doing a factory wipe/reset or not..not being able to go directly from one to the other, that is.
Try flash the new rom with Darky rom tool. The tool can be downloded from market.
Darky's rom is a combination of Captivate and I9000, the installder will check the model by original build.prop file.
Hi folks,
While this morning my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 was installing an (auto) update from an app (unfortunately I do not know which one), the phone rebooted. But it got caught in the start up screen (Samsung S animation logo). After a while the phone vibrates like there is an app which crashes...
I don't know how to solve this problem, as a factory reset (startup with volume button pressed etc.) did not work out...
Does this issue sound familiar to anyone of you? Thanks for any help...
Regards,
EJ
"as a factory reset (startup with volume button pressed etc.)"? i haven't heard of that one... do you have clocworkmod recovery? Try Volume Up+Home key+Power when/if you get into recovery try a factory reset wipe cache dalvik cache. Try to flash a new rom using odin... to bad that this happened from an app update...
Done that, didnt work.
now fixed though after using the Video Guide of Darky's Resurrection Edition v9.2 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671.
My SGS is back into business, seems to be working even better then before I bricked it. Thanks Darky!

I find my newly purchased tab 8.9 very laggy with the stock TouchWiz
Before returning it I wanted ti try the Overcome rom to see if it can get any smoother.
I carefully followed there instructions but I am unable to go past the downloading droid. once I validate with the right button volume, the tablet simply reboots.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Let me get this right: you sucessfully flashed Overcome, and want to ODIN but when you try to get in Download Mode, it reboots, is that it? If so, that's the first time I've heard this issue. How are you trying to enter Download Mode?

I see. The Overcome thread also has the CWM Recovery as a .zip file which is flashable through Stock Recovery (same procedure as flashing Root). You just put the file in your internal SDcard and flash away. If you still have doubts, read a little bit here, as I'm sure that will clear any doubts you might have.

Yes I have done that and I get to the menu with the droid blinking with "downloading" written under it. The issues is when I validate instead of showing the dowload menue it simply reboots...

Don't expect perfection from a port, ever (port = a ROM that's not native to the device). The motley kernel, along with UV can help you in the battery department.

Sorry to comeback to it but after having flashed a couple or ROM with CWM I want to come back to the stock rom using ODIN and I cannot enter the dowload menu.
My system right now is a stock ROM us retail P7310UEKHA flashed with CWM and CWM and I want to install a 3.2 stock ROM using ODIN.
The way I try to access the download menu is
1. Turn off the tab
2. wait 30 sec
3. restart with the down volume pressed
4. when the reaching the menu between recovery and dowloading. Select dowloading with the down volume button and validate with the up volume button.
Result: a black screen for 3 seconds and then the tab reboots

Thanks lupu666ro. I've tried installing stock Rom with CMW but nothing works. I have found very sparse info about nvflash. It looks like the solution but I'm a bit wary about tring this without a instructions. Could give me more info or point me to a tutorial

So I have tried reflashing the stock US retail ROM and ran the EULA3 OTA update over it. I can't seem to figure this out.
The OTA update entered the download mode for a few seconds during the update so I am wondering if I don't simply have a locked bootloader.
I have made a video to show the problem: http://youtu.be/b09-x31ldbs
