hi
for those who live outside the US and have a NC.
How is it with the firmware update ? Does it also works OTA ?
Thx
L
It seemed to work for me, I'm in Ireland....
I was reading and then my nook rebooted itself and when it came back on the nook was at 1.1.0 from 1.0.1
(Pandora still blocked though).
I never got it here in Poland.

I've got a few purchased Nook books, and they sync perfectly between my HTC Android phone Nook app and my desktop computer Nook app, however the rooted Nook Color refuses to sync. I've tried several times, but no dice. The books show up on the Nook, but the page read just won't sync. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution short of rolling the Nook back to stock? It's kind of driving me nuts when I switch between devices. Can't find this issue mentioned anywhere else.
Love the rooted Nook besides this 1 issue.
If no one has a solution, has anyone else noticed the same problem?
I noticed this as well and just assumed that their software doesn't sync pages between devices. The Nook app on my G2 pulls down my purchases just fine, but does not remember where I leave off.
Anyone else?
My HTC MT4G definitely syncs with B&N's Nook store - last page read shows up when I open the same book on the PC Nook software - and vice versa.
B&N claims that their software syncs across all platforms. I'm thinking Rooting breaks this.
I use the nook app on epic 4g and the nook color reader (rooted) and the 2 don't sync. I would love to flash my nook color to stock and try, then try after a fresh root (since I have a few things that seem to break over time with root) but i sadly don't have enough time right now.
Also my in store wifi features don't work. Anybody here have in store working wanna check if sync also works?
B&N got shipments in today, it was the first shipment after the 2 week delay message and all the rumors of lock downs.
I bought one and it appears on the outside that it has no sticker or anything to make me thinking it has a newer modified bootloader but before i open the box i want to make sure all the nooks that came in today arent modified?
Also, is there anything that should be done when i first get it besides registered a b&n account if i plan on rooting, loading froyo or honeycomb etc? I want to make sure i dont boot it up for the first time and all of a sudden it downloads some new update and locks it down or something.
there is so much happening with this device on a daily basis on all the sites, i cant keep up with it all, it appears autonook 3.0.0 after flashing 1.1.0 is my best bet ?
thanks again guys.
Thats what I have been told autonook 3.0.0
bought the wife a NC on saturday. all bestbuy's around the KC area were out of stock but the B&N by us had a bunch so we picked it up. it came loaded with version 1.0.0 and has yet to autoupdate. ill probably update it to 1.1.0 today or tomorrow. i mentioned rooting to her and what it does and now she wants it done. ive been reading up on that and it seems relatively simple.

I would burn a honeycomb or nookie froyo sd card. Then open the box, put in the sd card and turn it on. If it boots into one of those roms you should be able to root it
@cray. I got a Nook Color from a brand new BN shipment yesterday too. It came with 1.0.1 already installed.
These are the steps I like to follow:
1) register it with BN
2) turn off wireless ASAP after OOBE (out of the box experience) finishes
3) download updates from BN.com using my computer and install by sideloading onto NC (i didn't bother since i am fine with 1.0.1)
4) turn off NC, insert microSD and proceed to with autonooter rooting process
5) enable ADB (optional)
6) change OTA updates to manual
After that you're free to do whatever because your NC is registered and rooted.
If you're careful about turning wifi off when you are done playing with it, you shouldn't get any of the OTA updates. You can also flash a zip that will block OTA for 1.1 if you don't want to run on that version.
I have seen posts that with Autonooter 3.0 you can't install CWR (Clockworkmod Recovery), which makes it harder to apply the overclocking kernels if you were planning to do that. Or any other modifications that uses CWR. I would personally go to 1.0.1 (if you're not already out of the box) and apply Autonooter 2.12.25 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872490). Then apply Decad3nce's V1.1.0_r2 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145). This route takes more time but maximizes the potential of the NOOKcolor.
Hello
I'm selling my NC as I need to pay some bills and I rebuy one when the Honeycomb is officially out and working on the Nook.
So a friend in AZ bought it, must of logged it or something to check it out. Worked fine so mailed it to me. I registered it to my name and email address after creating a B&N account (I'm in the UK btw). Works fine.
Did the auto Rooting install back in Dec - everything good. Simply not using it. (never did solve the issues of inconsistent wifi connection at home off a mac mini).
Its now listed on ebay in the UK and I can't seem to de-register it. Can't remember by B&N account at all.
I am getting an error code about not registered?
Do I need to start over, totally reRoot it or?
Machines fine otherwise.
Cheers
M
Would greatly appreciate any assist with the following:
I have the following issue with my N2A powered Nook HD+. I have been using the N2A card exclusively for several months with almost flawless performance. However, I have recently run into the following issue with a successfully d/l and installed Zinio for Android app: "Failed to connect to the server. Please move to an area with a stronger wireless signal and try again." This happens no matter what my location is! I have a very solid, strong, and fast connection with all of my other apps.
Zinio says that it is because I am using a Nook (even though configured as an Android tablet) the app will not work and is not supported on that device. Here is the tech ass't manager's reply after I had several back and forths with a level one tech at Zinio:
"I apologize for any inconvenience. Zinio will not work properly on a Nook
device. If you are able to install the app, you will receive an error message
regarding not being able to connect to the internet -- this is normal behavior.
This is not something that we can resolve because Nook will not allow Zinio to
be used on their devices. There is no workaround that will fix this issue."
I had repeatedly explained to them in increasing detail that I was not using the BN software and that this issue was not displayed by any other app!
Their app d/l without any warning of conflict. It installed properly. It even starts up and displays its structure with no problem except for the all-important failure to connect.
Since everything else works just fine, what is the connection only issue? I have an online subscription to Aviation Week & Space Technology which is accessible only through Zinio. Desktop version is not a problem but I want to be able to access this on my HD+ which has the perfect screen size for it!
Thanks in advance.
Turns out that changing the identity of the HD+ to asus/Nexus 7 did the trick. Familiar with this process from my original NC days.

Odd! I'm running Zinio with no problems at all on both my rooted HD and HD+ running stock.
I do remember having that error massage a some point while running CM10.1 from sd-card on my Nook Tablet though.
Glad you got it sorted!

It runs fine on rooted stock and has for awhile. It's just in CM10 and CM10.1 that this problem exists. I think Zinio is full of it when it comes to the reason it isn't working.
I need to spend more time looking in to this but I have just been to busy to do it.
" I think Zinio is full of it when it comes to the reason it isn't working."
Keep in mind the following:
1. Zinio d/l from GP with no error messages regarding the tablet type.
2. The install after the d/l went off without a hitch.
3. When opening Zinio, the app structure appeared.
4. The "only" problem was the weak wifi/ can't access server" message.
Thanks for the moral support and could not have stated it better myself!
However, now that v2.1 of the stock BN software includes Google Play access, all of this might be moot. Evidently Zinio does work with this new update. As I have never tweaked the internals of my HD+, will definitely give this a try and see how well things work.
While I would prefer using 4.1, living with full access to GP under 4.0.4 might be doable. As long as I can access HBOGo, I would be thrilled!

Finally - Zinio running on my Nook HD runing Android 4.4.4
When I tried to run Zinio on my Nook HD under Android 4.4.4 (booted from the SD Card) I got a "Warning Zinio server not available..." even though Zinio ran fine from stock Nook HD. After I read harryzee's earlier posts (#1, #2) I wasn't sure how to change the identity. I finally figured out how - and Zinio ran without any problems. See how I did it below.
Nook HD running CM11 ROMS (KitKat 4.4.4) from the SD Card

Changing the Identity of my Nook HD
After looking for a while, I found the simplest instructions on how to change the identity posted by Timit on the AFN forum http://www.androidfornook.com/forum/thread-626-page-2.html
RE: Zinio Problem with JB Internal Install
This is probably the easiest workaround that I have ever performed. Using information that I gleaned from N2A forums and XDA Developers forums,
I was able to get Zinio working on JB 4.2.2 in about 10 minutes. Here are the steps that I followed:
1) Make sure that Zinio is NOT installed on your NT
2) Download Build Prod Editor from Google Play.
3) Start up Build Prod Editor.
4) Tap ok on the information screen that pops up.
5) Scroll down the list of properties until you see "ro.product.model"
6) Tap on "ro.product.model"
7) In the pop up window that appears tap the Property Value box.
8) Enter "nookhdplus" - without quotes.
9) Click Save.
10) It should ask if you want to reboot, if it does tap yes. If it doesn't ask then reboot the NT yourself.
11) Once the NT reboots go to Google Play and download Zinio.
This is all I had to do. Really easy. I was reading my magazines in probably 20 minutes.
Now the disclaimer.
FOLLOW THIS PROCESS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I am just an average Joe who BADLY wanted Zinio to work. I am not sure if this will have any adverse effects on your NT but I am not responsible if something goes awry.
I hope this works for you and that you enjoy running Zinio on your Nook HD!
Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have a Nook HD, set up for the UK, and I have set it up, added my accounts, etc. Everything is working well, except for the "Your Nook Today" screen. When I open it, it gives me the following message:
Recommendations and today's weather are waiting for you, but you need to connect to the Internet first.
SIMPLY TAP THE WIFI ICON AND CONNECT TO A NETWORK TO CONTINUE.
The Nook is connected to my home wifi network, and I have also tried it using a portable hotspot on my mobile phone, with the same result. I purchased the original tablet on 31st August, which had this issue, and the replacement arrived today (3rd September) with the same issue.
Has anyone come across this issue before, and is there a solution for it? Nook have offered to replace it as faulty, but given that two identical devices have had the same problem, I don't think a third one would sort it out.
My home wifi is working fine, as I am using it to connect this laptop I am typing this message on. Added to which, the Nook is connected to it, and all the downloads work fine. It is connected to my email, and Google Play, etc, as well as to my Nook account.
Any ideas folks?
By the way, it is fully stock, with no root, CWM, etc.

Hi Ursula, I'm experiencing the same problem, read the responses you've had on a couple other sites, just wondered if you'd managed to get this sorted?
Stuart.
Sorry Stuart, I had my second one replaced with a third one, and that has the same problem. I contacted Nook again via their online chat, and they have acknowledged that others have this problem too. This seems to be a server problem within Nook and they are looking into it. They will get back to me when they have a solution.

Ah, that's a pain, although good to know that they have acknowledged it and are investigating, fingers crossed it'll be up and working again soon!
I just bought the HD version yesterday and also have the same problem, so it seems a widespread issue.

Same problem here on 1 x 16GB Nook HD and 2 x 8GB Nook HD's (bought in the UK last week).
I've emailed Nook support who suggested trying to connect to a different wi-fi network but that hasn't fixed the issue.
Don't think I'm missing much, but still irritating.
I first tried my own home router, in England and my android hotspot, also in England. Now I'm at my in-laws house in Northern Ireland, and it doesn't work here too. As you say Finster14, not a major issue, but irritating.

I've just finished chatting online to Nook, as there is no call centre to ring. They are now saying that it may (only may) be fixed in a new update. However, they did not say when this update would happen, nor did they say that the next update will definitely fix it. I tried to narrow the adviser down to a guesstimate on timescales, and was told that it may be a couple of months, but they were not sure about that.
It all seems very vague. They don't know how the problem started, what the nature of the problem is, why it only affects certain Nook tablets, and how long it will take to fix it (assuming it can be fixed). My partner's Nook HD was bought before mine, and his has none of these problems. I am currently re-downloading the same firmware from the Nook site, in the vain hope that it will fix the problem. I expect it will make no difference, but I can only try, and see what happens. The link for the firmware is below, and works for both sizes of the Nook HD (the 8gb and 16gb versions). It will not work on any other Nook device, but the website has the firmwares for other devices.
http://uk.nook.com/support/nook-hd-software-updates
I got a firmware update a few days ago to version 2.2.0. I hoped this new firmware would solve the "Your Nook Today" problem; but no such luck. Nook online can offer no further help to resolve this problem, so I am no further forward.
