Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have a Nook HD, set up for the UK, and I have set it up, added my accounts, etc. Everything is working well, except for the "Your Nook Today" screen. When I open it, it gives me the following message:
Recommendations and today's weather are waiting for you, but you need to connect to the Internet first.
SIMPLY TAP THE WIFI ICON AND CONNECT TO A NETWORK TO CONTINUE.
The Nook is connected to my home wifi network, and I have also tried it using a portable hotspot on my mobile phone, with the same result. I purchased the original tablet on 31st August, which had this issue, and the replacement arrived today (3rd September) with the same issue.
Has anyone come across this issue before, and is there a solution for it? Nook have offered to replace it as faulty, but given that two identical devices have had the same problem, I don't think a third one would sort it out.
My home wifi is working fine, as I am using it to connect this laptop I am typing this message on. Added to which, the Nook is connected to it, and all the downloads work fine. It is connected to my email, and Google Play, etc, as well as to my Nook account.
Any ideas folks?
By the way, it is fully stock, with no root, CWM, etc.

Hi Ursula, I'm experiencing the same problem, read the responses you've had on a couple other sites, just wondered if you'd managed to get this sorted?
Stuart.
Sorry Stuart, I had my second one replaced with a third one, and that has the same problem. I contacted Nook again via their online chat, and they have acknowledged that others have this problem too. This seems to be a server problem within Nook and they are looking into it. They will get back to me when they have a solution.

Ah, that's a pain, although good to know that they have acknowledged it and are investigating, fingers crossed it'll be up and working again soon!
I just bought the HD version yesterday and also have the same problem, so it seems a widespread issue.

Same problem here on 1 x 16GB Nook HD and 2 x 8GB Nook HD's (bought in the UK last week).
I've emailed Nook support who suggested trying to connect to a different wi-fi network but that hasn't fixed the issue.
Don't think I'm missing much, but still irritating.
I first tried my own home router, in England and my android hotspot, also in England. Now I'm at my in-laws house in Northern Ireland, and it doesn't work here too. As you say Finster14, not a major issue, but irritating.

I've just finished chatting online to Nook, as there is no call centre to ring. They are now saying that it may (only may) be fixed in a new update. However, they did not say when this update would happen, nor did they say that the next update will definitely fix it. I tried to narrow the adviser down to a guesstimate on timescales, and was told that it may be a couple of months, but they were not sure about that.
It all seems very vague. They don't know how the problem started, what the nature of the problem is, why it only affects certain Nook tablets, and how long it will take to fix it (assuming it can be fixed). My partner's Nook HD was bought before mine, and his has none of these problems. I am currently re-downloading the same firmware from the Nook site, in the vain hope that it will fix the problem. I expect it will make no difference, but I can only try, and see what happens. The link for the firmware is below, and works for both sizes of the Nook HD (the 8gb and 16gb versions). It will not work on any other Nook device, but the website has the firmwares for other devices.

I got a firmware update a few days ago to version 2.2.0. I hoped this new firmware would solve the "Your Nook Today" problem; but no such luck. Nook online can offer no further help to resolve this problem, so I am no further forward.

I've purchased a Milestone X720 for my wife, but I found the internal WiFi to work erratically at best.
It seems like it has no problem connecting to Google.com webpage (also it can sync mails and contacts), but when trying to access any other webpages (bbc.co.uk, espn.com, etc.) using the browser, it's always timing out. I know it's not a problem with my WiFi / internal network / router /internet connection, because I can navigate just fine using my HTC Desire or home laptops.
It worked for a while yesterday afternoon, then this morning wasn't able to connect to any website.
The wifi connection is using DHCP, and it shows a correct internal IP address and an excellent signal level. I don't think there's much more things I can tweak in the phone configuration, or isn't there?
Maybe it is a defective phone? Did someone experienced something like this? Should I return it and exchange it for a new one?
I'd appreciate any help.
Alex.
Actually, I've been having problems with my wifi. My wifi will stop working on any webpage at seemingly random intervals (I used to think it was when it went into sleep, but it happens when it's not in sleep now also). Eventually after restarting wifi so many times it'll glitch up and I have to restart the phone.
Providing your phone's stock (as in you haven't rooted it or the like) I'd recommend going to your carrier about the problem.
EDIT: I just checked through the posts on this board and some guy was having another problem with his wifi (different from both of ours though), he suggested getting WifiPowerSavingOff off the market, I'll try it and tell you if it fixes my problem. The only problem is it requires root access, I don't even know if it will fix your problem so you're better off sending the phone back (especially since rooting voids your warrenty). One other thing you could try is just a factory reset, it sounds like a software problem so that might work wonders, you might have to reactivate your phone afterwards though.
Well, thank you for your response.
WiFi was working OK when I came back from work, but is not working now.
The phone is unbranded unlocked, so I'll probably have to talk to the seller.
I tried to see if there was an update from Motorola, but every time I go to the System Updates it says that it is unable to connect to the server, so there's probably no available update for this phone yet.

If it's unlocked OTA updates (updating through the settings) are probably disabled, because installing OTA updates will make you lose root (I'm assuming your phone also is rooted if it was unlocked by the seller). do you know what baseband your using right now? Also, have you installed rom manager or anything that can make nandroid backups?
I might be wrong, but I don't think it's rooted, I think it's just the way it's sold, SIM free and unlocked from factory, not by the seller.
Baseband is 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.56I
Well if you wanna double check, just look to see if a superuser permissions app is installed (if you don't find one it's not rooted), I never knew they sold them unlocked (although I'm in the US... so I doubt they do here). All I can say is to try a factory reset then, if that doesn't work then talk to the seller. It sounds like more of a software problem since Google works.
In the end it seems there is some kind of incompatibility between the phone and my WiFi router (a Belkin G). Yesterday I managed to borrow another WiFi router (Netgear) and it works flawlessly when connected to this AP.
I will keep testing during the weekend but I'm pretty sure this was the cause.
Thanks Shiny for your help.
Hi. I picked up a milestone via Ebay two days ago and had similar wi-fi issues. After reading a number of forums I discovered that the problem lay with my router - Siemans Gigaset SE587 (Tiscali). The wireless channel or regulatory domain was set to auto channel 1. I think this confuses the phone so with the help of the router manual I disabled auto and reset it to channel 13.
Wi-fi works flawlessly now and it hasn't affected my other devices. The link below might help.
I am on my third Nook Color. First one had wifi issues and a couple of dead pixels. I even had issues installing ADB drivers on XP. Had to use Adb Wireless. 2nd one had absolutely no software issues (Wifi Connectivity was good and ADB installed easily also) but connector had issues (micro usb was a problem) and chord wouldn't go in. took it back also. The third one has wifi issues again. I have to reset my router everytime it goes to sleep. Nook is the first device that has problems connecting to my wireless network. Never before have i seen this. I tried everything (non secured, WPA, WP2, WEP). Haven't bothered rooting it as I think this is the last one i will own. I am returning it and getting my money back. I think there are small differences in each unit which cause them to behave differently. Not sure how or why that would happen. I really like the screen but looks like i am gonna wait for 2.2 before I make my mind.
Bummer for you. You should've just had them switch the cable on the second one. For some reason sometimes the cable doesn't go in, but if you try a few one of them will eventually work. I work at B&N and it is annoying but an easy fix. The device was fine.
As to your issues connecting to your WiFi, has your device been updated to official B&N version 1.0.1? This should fix any issues with connecting to a home wireless network.
I would almost bet that your first and third nooks did not have the update, and that is why they wouldn't connect properly. The second one probably had it and that was why it worked flawlessly.
I think you were a frustrated after returning the first one. The cable is an issue with all Nooks, you just have to take you time inserting it. As far as Wifi goes, the first Version connected better than 1.01. My Nook suffer a fall from six feet and is still rocking!. It is awonderfull device. I have more than a 100 apps on it already and can't even go the bathroom without it!.

I had the wireless problem @work but not @home. Is the SSID on your home wirless broadcast?
I updated my Nook out of the box. I'm rooted and screamer'd. It works at home, at work and all over town. At home I have wireless G and N routers, it works on both.
Being a happy Sprint customer, I'm used to crummy micro USB cables (PRO TIP: get the blackberry ones for your EV0!), be careful when inserting, and you'll be O.K.!
Hope this helps,
Joe
What exactly were your wifi problems? Mine will surf the web for a while then stops loading unless I turn wifi off then on again. Pretty frustrating. It did it with stock rom before and after the update and it still does it after rooting. I would love to figure out how to fix it.
I've got a few purchased Nook books, and they sync perfectly between my HTC Android phone Nook app and my desktop computer Nook app, however the rooted Nook Color refuses to sync. I've tried several times, but no dice. The books show up on the Nook, but the page read just won't sync. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution short of rolling the Nook back to stock? It's kind of driving me nuts when I switch between devices. Can't find this issue mentioned anywhere else.
Love the rooted Nook besides this 1 issue.
If no one has a solution, has anyone else noticed the same problem?
I noticed this as well and just assumed that their software doesn't sync pages between devices. The Nook app on my G2 pulls down my purchases just fine, but does not remember where I leave off.
Anyone else?
My HTC MT4G definitely syncs with B&N's Nook store - last page read shows up when I open the same book on the PC Nook software - and vice versa.
B&N claims that their software syncs across all platforms. I'm thinking Rooting breaks this.
I use the nook app on epic 4g and the nook color reader (rooted) and the 2 don't sync. I would love to flash my nook color to stock and try, then try after a fresh root (since I have a few things that seem to break over time with root) but i sadly don't have enough time right now.
Also my in store wifi features don't work. Anybody here have in store working wanna check if sync also works?
Good evening all,
Has anybody in the UK had success in connecting their Chromecast to A SkyHub? I have tried several times, but I cannot connect it, I have had to use my old trusted Belkin to do this...
Thanks
Matt
Hey Matt, got one of these myself a few days ago. Managed to get it connected and set up via my Sky Hub (newish white one), but then couldn't get anything to cast properly and it kept freezing up and becoming unresponsive. Have sent it back as faulty and got a replacement on the way, so will see if it was just the unit.
What problems did you have and did you ever manage to resolve them?
Chris.
All working fine here with 2 chromecasts, one UK and the other US. Black Sky hub, whcih is the newest router

At least they had it working at some point...
Got mine working the other day but had problems.
I couldn't activate it via a Win7 machine, kept getting an error saying it was unable to find the chromecast online. The only way I could set it up was to use an app on my phone. Now that it's setup everything seems to be working ok.
White Sky hub approx 9 months old.
Last night, I found my TouchPad sitting under a pile of papers in my office after a few months of wondering where it was and charged it on the dock. Before this long gap of not using it, it had been working perfectly fine - internet browsing, apps, etc... and the internet definitely worked.
After turning it on, it will connect to my WiFi network without a problem, but when I go to open up a web browser page, it says: "Error: No Internet connection." I also can't get it to load stories in the USA Today app and it won't check email in the email app.
I tried enabling/disabling Airplane Mode and then reset the WiFi settings (gave it a new IP address under the WiFi Preferences menu, like this HP forum post says to do), but it still doesn't want to let me go to websites or anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

As you say that you haven't used it for a while I'm wondering if you updated the root certificate.
If you didn't here are instructions on how to :

It won't even let me go into the App Catalog to download the update, actually. When I try to, it says: "You must connect to a network to use this application." After I click "Retry," there is a brief moment where it flashes a screen asking me what country I'm in before it goes right back to the screen telling me to connect to a network.
I don't think this is an issue with my router, since all of my family's phones (a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S3, and two iPhones), two laptops, and a Kindle are all using the network with no problems at all. It seems to me like it must be an internal problem with the way my Touchpad is interacting with the network.
Thanks for the suggestion though! That could be another issue I'll have to fix too (since I don't remember downloading an update to fix that problem, which I hadn't heard about before, though I think I've probably used my Touchpad at some point since July 2013).
