I am on my third Nook Color. First one had wifi issues and a couple of dead pixels. I even had issues installing ADB drivers on XP. Had to use Adb Wireless. 2nd one had absolutely no software issues (Wifi Connectivity was good and ADB installed easily also) but connector had issues (micro usb was a problem) and chord wouldn't go in. took it back also. The third one has wifi issues again. I have to reset my router everytime it goes to sleep. Nook is the first device that has problems connecting to my wireless network. Never before have i seen this. I tried everything (non secured, WPA, WP2, WEP). Haven't bothered rooting it as I think this is the last one i will own. I am returning it and getting my money back. I think there are small differences in each unit which cause them to behave differently. Not sure how or why that would happen. I really like the screen but looks like i am gonna wait for 2.2 before I make my mind.
Bummer for you. You should've just had them switch the cable on the second one. For some reason sometimes the cable doesn't go in, but if you try a few one of them will eventually work. I work at B&N and it is annoying but an easy fix. The device was fine.
As to your issues connecting to your WiFi, has your device been updated to official B&N version 1.0.1? This should fix any issues with connecting to a home wireless network.
I would almost bet that your first and third nooks did not have the update, and that is why they wouldn't connect properly. The second one probably had it and that was why it worked flawlessly.
I think you were a frustrated after returning the first one. The cable is an issue with all Nooks, you just have to take you time inserting it. As far as Wifi goes, the first Version connected better than 1.01. My Nook suffer a fall from six feet and is still rocking!. It is awonderfull device. I have more than a 100 apps on it already and can't even go the bathroom without it!.

I had the wireless problem @work but not @home. Is the SSID on your home wirless broadcast?
I updated my Nook out of the box. I'm rooted and screamer'd. It works at home, at work and all over town. At home I have wireless G and N routers, it works on both.
Being a happy Sprint customer, I'm used to crummy micro USB cables (PRO TIP: get the blackberry ones for your EV0!), be careful when inserting, and you'll be O.K.!
Hope this helps,
Joe
What exactly were your wifi problems? Mine will surf the web for a while then stops loading unless I turn wifi off then on again. Pretty frustrating. It did it with stock rom before and after the update and it still does it after rooting. I would love to figure out how to fix it.
Short Story: Is there anyway to make the nexus start working without WiFi?
Long Story: Sherman, set the Way-Back Machine for about a month ago. So there I was the day of the Google I/O conference refreshing the google play store over and over again until the moment I could order my Nexus 7. Needless to say I ordered it the minute I could. Today I recieved my Nexus 7. It took a while to get here. I picked it up from the mailroom three hours ago. I let it charge and turned it on. First screen asks for my country. Second screen says searching for WiFi. And there I sit because , I don't have WiFi. Is there a workaround for this? Or do I have a $250 paperweight, until I get home later this year?
I can't be the only one with this problem.
Resources available to me:
1) I have a laptop that is connected to very slow internet (ethernet, not wireless). It has USB ports, but I don't think theres a way to share internet through USB. I can not attach a wifi router to this network.
2) I have WiFi where I sleep, but I need to open a browser and put in a username and password to log in. I don't think that will work because I can't get to the web browser part of this.
My last resort is to mail it back home to have family activate it and then mail it back to me. Kind of absurd. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Josh
EDIT************
ATTN TROLLS: before replying and looking stupid, make sure to read the whole thread. The problem has been resolved. I even explained how I resolved it for other people with potentially the same problem. I have also clearly explained why I bought the Nexus 7. A tablet is a tablet. Without WiFi it still lets me read books, play games, do Sudoku puzzles, and watch episodes that I bring back on a USB thumb drive. I used it to replace my Nook Color running CM7. I have enough WiFi back in my room to browse the web and check my email.
Thanks to everyone that offered constructive help.
To the trolls, I hope you get pushed down a slide of razors into a pool of acid.
Does the laptop ha e wifi, if so you can share the wired internet connection wirelessly via connnectify

Go to Starbucks or McDonalds, Lol
You wouldn't happen to have a neighbor with an open network you could leach off of do you?
That seems like a serious oversight if this is the case.

This, seems easy enough. Go get a coffee
Well, if you are rooted (should be able to root without setting up) then you can just kill the 'setup', process through adb on your pc. You could also try to flash a ROM without that set up process. Like CM
I thought this when I was setting up my tablet and wondered when would happen if someone didn't have wi fi available immediately.

Or this. But hey, go grab a coffee, then root.
I had wifi and it still couldn't detect it when i turned it on! I panicked and i sat there at the first screen bevause there was no option to manually enter wifi settings. My network has secure and ssid off, but couldn't even see neighbours (ssid on).
But I tethered insecure net from phone to get past first screen. Should be able to borrow a friend's internet this way, it doesn't download much.
I have no idea how you plan to use the n7 w/o wifi, at least during setup, it is in terms of service...

Not sure if this still works, but you used to be able to bypass activation by touching all four corners of the device. Top left, top right, bottom right, and bottom left.
I tried the four corners thing. It didn't work. Unfortunately there are no McDonalds or Starbucks near me. I only have these two networks to work with. I bough it to replace my Nook (CM7), which I use to watch episodes of TV shows. I bring the mSD card to work, and put episodes on it, then bring it back to the room and watch them till I fall asleep. With the Nexus I was intent on copying my episodes over through the ethernet cable by day, and taking it back to the room to watch them at night. I guess I'll have to keep watching my shows on my Nook. Sucks. New toy is useless.

This would work. Unfortunately I can't connect anything wireless to this network. I might try to sneak this solution. This is the second to last resort. Thanks for the advice/idea!

I haven't seen any instructions on how to root the device prior to initializing it. Is it possible?
Thanks,

I take it u can't skip the sign in like on phones, if u have no way of getting on a wifi network, you can possibly try to kill the setup process via adb...its not really a google oversight, its 2012 WiFi networks are rather easy to find.
I guess I'm just lucky enough to be where they aren't easy to find.
I just tether from my phone

I have no cell phone coverage here. Although I might be able to use my cell phone to connect to the wireless back at the room, use the cell phone web browser to log on, then tether it to my Nexus. That might work. I'll try that tonight.

use a WIFI dongle to attach to your laptop. make it a hotspot using "connectify" software and connect your nexus to it. your laptop must have internet access.
setup aside, how did you plan on managing files etc on the n7 long term without wifi?
Seems there are other products more suited to your needs if you aren't going to use any online or network features.

Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have a Nook HD, set up for the UK, and I have set it up, added my accounts, etc. Everything is working well, except for the "Your Nook Today" screen. When I open it, it gives me the following message:
Recommendations and today's weather are waiting for you, but you need to connect to the Internet first.
SIMPLY TAP THE WIFI ICON AND CONNECT TO A NETWORK TO CONTINUE.
The Nook is connected to my home wifi network, and I have also tried it using a portable hotspot on my mobile phone, with the same result. I purchased the original tablet on 31st August, which had this issue, and the replacement arrived today (3rd September) with the same issue.
Has anyone come across this issue before, and is there a solution for it? Nook have offered to replace it as faulty, but given that two identical devices have had the same problem, I don't think a third one would sort it out.
My home wifi is working fine, as I am using it to connect this laptop I am typing this message on. Added to which, the Nook is connected to it, and all the downloads work fine. It is connected to my email, and Google Play, etc, as well as to my Nook account.
Any ideas folks?
By the way, it is fully stock, with no root, CWM, etc.

Hi Ursula, I'm experiencing the same problem, read the responses you've had on a couple other sites, just wondered if you'd managed to get this sorted?
Stuart.
Sorry Stuart, I had my second one replaced with a third one, and that has the same problem. I contacted Nook again via their online chat, and they have acknowledged that others have this problem too. This seems to be a server problem within Nook and they are looking into it. They will get back to me when they have a solution.

Ah, that's a pain, although good to know that they have acknowledged it and are investigating, fingers crossed it'll be up and working again soon!
I just bought the HD version yesterday and also have the same problem, so it seems a widespread issue.

Same problem here on 1 x 16GB Nook HD and 2 x 8GB Nook HD's (bought in the UK last week).
I've emailed Nook support who suggested trying to connect to a different wi-fi network but that hasn't fixed the issue.
Don't think I'm missing much, but still irritating.
I first tried my own home router, in England and my android hotspot, also in England. Now I'm at my in-laws house in Northern Ireland, and it doesn't work here too. As you say Finster14, not a major issue, but irritating.

I've just finished chatting online to Nook, as there is no call centre to ring. They are now saying that it may (only may) be fixed in a new update. However, they did not say when this update would happen, nor did they say that the next update will definitely fix it. I tried to narrow the adviser down to a guesstimate on timescales, and was told that it may be a couple of months, but they were not sure about that.
It all seems very vague. They don't know how the problem started, what the nature of the problem is, why it only affects certain Nook tablets, and how long it will take to fix it (assuming it can be fixed). My partner's Nook HD was bought before mine, and his has none of these problems. I am currently re-downloading the same firmware from the Nook site, in the vain hope that it will fix the problem. I expect it will make no difference, but I can only try, and see what happens. The link for the firmware is below, and works for both sizes of the Nook HD (the 8gb and 16gb versions). It will not work on any other Nook device, but the website has the firmwares for other devices.
http://uk.nook.com/support/nook-hd-software-updates
I got a firmware update a few days ago to version 2.2.0. I hoped this new firmware would solve the "Your Nook Today" problem; but no such luck. Nook online can offer no further help to resolve this problem, so I am no further forward.
Hi All,
Just picked up a chromecast however I'm having some initial issues with getting it working.
It connected fine to my Wifi network and then goes to update however the update stays on 0% or 1% until it eventually times out.
Is anyone able to provide information around how the updates work for this device? I'm in New Zealand so I'm curious if there's an issue with Google servers not accepting from my location or something.
If anyone could provide any information that would be great, if there's a better place for this post or if I should be easily able to find this (I did try to search everywhere I could) then I'm sorry.
Kind regards,
Kyo

would appreciate a reply or solution
Got my Chromecast a week ago. It was setup and working/casting without any problem but since yesterday, a message appeared about updating..."Your Chromecast deserves the best...." and the update screen is stuck at 0%. I have restarted routers, chromecast, reset and tried everything, but after setup it gores to update screen and stays at 0% for hours without any progress.
I am using it in Pakistan. Have tried to search online solutions but found nothing, though I have seen some other people having the same problem.
PLEASE HELP and ADVISE how to go about. I have already tried resetting and factory reset etc.
I just opened the box for chromecast today. The setup went fine. As soon as it was connected, it started the update. It gets to 100% and does nothing else. It just stays on that screen. Anyone else experiencing this?
+1 same issue here.Seems to be affecting Pakistani users.
Maybe because youtube is blocked in Pakistan.
Anyway to manually update device ?
So my chromecast started updating itself a day later, well I never saw it updating but it did. (didn't change anything so not sure why it wasn't working).
Good luck to those others who have the issue.
Any update on this? I'm having the same issue... purchased chromecast yesterday and never got it passed the update screen, remains on zero. Even after leaving on overnight!
Talked with Google last night at midnight, very cool support is open 24/7, but they were unable to help. the one thing they did mention is that the router should be within 20 feet of chromecast! Mine is easily double that, but everything else in the same location works fine; xbox, roku, LG G2, Nexus 7 and my Vizio DLNA and smart apps. I can stream on everything but the chromecast.
Is the chromecast really that weak?
Help?

Don't think so.
Since your TV has DLNA, you should be able to stream using BubbleUPnP alone providing you also have WiFi on it as well.
Chromecast stuck on 0% updating
I fixed Chromecast stuck on 0% update by rebooting with little button THEN switching the cable box cable to HMI-2. Then plugging Chromecast cable into HMI-1 port on the TV and selecting HMI-1 setting. Chromecast started loading and rebooted itself about 3 times. With-in 6 or 7 minutes it was ready to CAST! Yay finally. It took my 4 hours to figure it out as there were no solutions on the internet blogs.
+1 this! Thank you so much!!
Hi,
Anybody having trouble connecting to Motorola Connect?
My first day with my X was two days ago. I installed Chrome (don't really like it yet), and Motorola Connect worked right away. Really cool feature!
Then yesterday I tried it again and could not connect to save my life. I got on with Motorola tech support chat, who escalated it to level 2 by phone (45 min. on the call), who escalated it to level 3. I'm supposed to hear from them in 24-48 hours.
I have two machines on XP. I installed (and re-installed Chrome) and neither one will connect now. I fear that next they will want me to reset my phone. Ugh.
Ultimately, since I'm a Firefox user (that's what I'm used to and it works great), I would like to let Chrome run in the background at startup for the Motorola Connect feature, which I believe I WAS able to do a couple of days ago.
I hope you all come back and tell me you can't connect either and it's on Motorola's end.
Thanks.
It connected with alternate email!
Edit: After all that, I just tried signing in with my alternate email address and it worked straight away! I would still like to know if anyone has any ideas why this might happen as I would still like to use my main email with Chrome. Thanks!
