Clockworkmod recovery on tmobile galaxy tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I get clockworkmod on my tab? I know you can flash it via odin or mck, but where is it?
Koush website is not up anymore, and I can't seem to find odin, or the mck software...
Can anyone help?
Thanks on advance....

Take a search in this forum. You'll find it. Or you can use Paul's Modaco Kernal R3 which has CWM built-in.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

Use MoDaCo kernel with EXT4 support and follow instructions. It converts system partition to EXT4 and installs CWM recovery that has full functionality and works.

I have been searching the internet for two days...and this forum. I have my tab rooted, and the bootloader patched..
With these kernels that I am supposed to flash, do I just place it in the root of the sd card and pray? There is definitely info, but it is outdated and confusion....

so finally got clockworkmod recovery on my galaxy tab....doesnt work. I can't get it past verifying file signature....... (please help).
I have the t-mobile galaxy tab, and kies doesn't connect to it.
I have installed and uninstalled kies so many times it isnt funny.
I have rooted the device, applied the bootloader patch. Because I can't seem to connect to the device....
Is there anything that you have to do differently for the T-Mobile version of the device?? I think a lot of these instructions that I am seeing posting on the board/forum are for international versions of the device....
Any suggestions? I am trying to flash the r1 mck rom with the online kitchen...

Go to modaco r3 kernel thread first and read the instructions. You have to flash the kernel first, the modaco r1 ROM
You can't flash with KIES. forget KIES.
You will need Odin for that

Here is a easier way to flash it.
Kernel
1.Download Modaco kernel here: http://android.modaco.com/content/s...aco-custom-kernel-for-the-samsung-galaxy-tab/
2. Extract it by using winzip or some extracting software.
Heimdall
1. Download Heimdall https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall/tree/v1.1.1
2. extract Heimdall
3. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributables http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...5E-6DE6-4D3A-A423-37BF0912DB84&displaylang=en
4. Open Heimdall folder and open read me file.
5. Put tab into download mode by holding Power plus Volume Down
6. Open Driver folder and Install Zadig.exe drivers
7. Start Heimdall Frontend.
8. in the zimage section of heimdall browse from the extracted zimage and open. make sure zimage is checked
9. hit start button and it should flash the kernel.
The tab will turn off and hold down Power plus Volume UP and you should be in Clockworkmod

ClockWorkMod from ROM Manager
Perhaps this will help:
I installed ROM Manager & ROM Manger (Premium) from the Market.
Just make sure you have ROOT, then install ROM Manager & ROM Manager (Premium), run the app and choose "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" from the screen. It will install the current CWM. It worked fine for me. I have Roto JMG flashed on my Tab.

Now that is even easier than my long winded way.

Well, I have a problem... I am not new to flashing, rooting, etc. But I had never used heimdall before. I followed these instructions to the T and when I hit the START button, it gave a FAILED message.
The TAB then shut down and rebooted to a "phone, exclamation mark, computer screen and nothing is happening.
I have searched and found several threads, posts, etc. that say this is recoverable... but they were all for a Euro tab, and not the T-Mo.
I dont want to go too much further without knowing exactly what needs to be done. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am to be on a plane to Dubai in less than 6 hours.
Thank you kindly!
UPDATE: The good people at T-MO exchanged my TAB even though it was 2 days outside the 30 day return period.

I had the same thing happen once. Sometimes it takes a couple of times to flash. I don't know why.
What I did was turn it off and then put it back into download mode and flashed it again and it worked w/ no problems.
Did you get another tab or just return it. I have the t-mobile tab and used these instructions to a t and I have had no problems.

I was given a new Tab... Im going to wait awhile before I try again.
The issue was that I could not get in to download mode.

You could have just had a bad tab. I had problems several times when I had the sprint tab flashing but none so far w/ the t-mobile tab. Which directions did you follow.

I will tell you this, even though the T-Mo Tab is listed in the Rom Manager install, it DOES NOT WORK.
It shows as installed, but go ahead and try to use it... It fails with a signature failure.

I don't use it. I flash mine via CWM. I can tell you CWM works great that is built into modaco kernel.

Hi,
what about German Tabs? Rommanager, CWM is only for Verizon an T.Mobile USA ( i thinkso), installed CWM, but no start in recovery.....
And, why ALL new Roms use this EXT4 on SD-Card?? Is there no other way and easy way to make EXT4 Partition on sd? G-Parted has damaged my PC two times, so i have no interest any more to do it like this way.....
Is here still someone, German Tab is running well with CWM and EXT4?
jammysunny

I did this but I can't get CWM to work properly. It's not finding something it needs on E: and I do have an external card on my Samsung Galaxy Tab T-Mobile.

I ran into the same thing w/ my tab today and I had to use a different SD card. I formatted the new card popped it in and worked like a charm. You may have to do the same.

I just rooted my T-Mobile Tab that I got today, wanted to get CWM up and running and it will not run. Getting the same "E: Failed to verify whole-file signature"
I am running CWM from the Market and it says i have Version 2.5.1.8, and that it installs successfully, but it will not boot into CWM.
What am I doing wrong?

[Q] can't install update.zip?

Hi there,
i was trying to flash my samsung galaxy s and put darky's on it but for some reason i can't.
The recovery screen that pops op says recovery 3e (and every tutorial i found said 2e),
i try to "apply sdcard:update.zip
(i downloaded the update file from the darky roms thread)
and i get the error: failed to verify whole-file signature
signature verification failed, installation aborted.
i've got a samsung galaxy I9000XWJPA.
I've flashed the phone using z4root.
Then i've checked with terminal emulator that it's rooted.
I think that there's a problem with clockwork, or that i just didn't install that correctly, so i'm kinda stuck at the moment :s
could someone please help me?
First of all you should get the busybox file and flash it. Then copy the update.zip into the internal sd card and copy the darky rom too.
Before doing this i would restore it to factory settings. Dont root it with z4root, the busybox roots it and it allows you to open the update.zip
Try what i said and it should work.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
You are on Android 2.2 which has the 3e recovery. 3e recovery doesn't allow using unsigned .zip files. You should first downgrade your recovery to 2e by flashing CF-root. After you downgrade your recovery, you'll be able to use any update.zip file.
You can find CF-root in this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Since you have XWJPA, you should download the JPA version from the second post. Instructions are in the first post.
Make sure you have 3-button recovery and download modes working before flashing.
oh that's via odin3 right?
i'll try that, thanks
Tell us if there's any problem.

hmm, i've followed all the steps, downloaded odin, and the CF-Root-XW_XEE_JPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.tar file, but the download screen only says "downloading, do not turn off target!!!
is there any particular setting or where to place the .tar file?

Ok.
First of all disconnect the galaxy from the pc. Close odin. Open Odin, put in PDA CF-Root-XW_XEE_JPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.tar
Then shut down the galaxy. Reboot it again to download mode. Connect it via usb and then click start. Make sure re-partition isn't checked.
That's it. When setting up odin you can't have the galaxy connected to he computer. If something fails on download mode, you must always restart the download mode or it'll be stuck.
Good luck
aha, found the problem:
there doesn't appear a comport in odin
new problem, how do i get the phone recognized?

It should recognize it when you connect it in download mode...
Mine recognizes it as COM4.
This may be simple, but restart your computer and phone and see if it works.

If not, re-install the drivers for your phone
hi mate i had exactly the same problems as you and it done my head in for about a day and a half but then someone gave me this advice and it worked a treat,
go to market
download sgs kernel
once done flash speedmod kernel using the app
re start phone
once done download darkys rom
reboot to download mode (should now have 2e)
flash zip
choose zip
find darkys
click yes instal darkys
job done
one thing i must point out in 2e is the back button on your phone is now the select button and the menu button on the bottom left is now your back button
hope this helps as it did for me
Restart your pc and make sure Kies is not working at all.
thanks man! reinstalling the drivers did the trick ten points for coldflid!!!

For the record, people do NOT have to flash Darkys or any other custom ROM to get 2e. Simply flashing a kernel that has Clockwork Recovery included will do the trick. Your reco to flash SpeedMod would have solved the problem without having to go further.
Very true but he wanted darkys which was the only reason I mentioned but good to point out for others reading the post

You're 100% correct - my mistake for missing it on the first go-around.
not a problem
Hello ,
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S I9000 .
I've updated it via KIES to the latest Froyo ( 2.2 as it shows my phone ) .
Next , I tried to install the voodoo lagfix .
I downloaded the .zip file and renamed it to "update.zip" .
Then I copied it to my phone's sd card ( I connect to PC via usb and copied in the 'Phone' folder ) .
Next , I used the 3 buttons ( Volume UP + middle button + turn off button ) and it got into Recovery mode .
I selected the 'update.zip' file and accesed it , but it says :
"E: signature verification failed, installation aborted."
I have to downgrade to 2E first ?

Thank you for quick reply. I started compiling the files need to flashing. So far, I could do following. Please advice me whether I am on the right path or not.
1. Rooted my tab with Z4root. Now I got root permission.
2. Downloaded Odin3 v1.7.exe and s1_odin_20100803.pit for flashing
3. Downloaded Roto-JMI-Full-v2.zip and Roto-JMI-Upgrade-v2.zip
Now, using Odin PDA button, I want to flash Roto-JMI-Full-v2.zip ?
Few questions:
a) Is this correct way of flashing or I am missing something?
b) Does above flash install Recovery also ?
c) which files need for PHONE and CSC files ?
d) Which firmware best suitable for Indian Tab ?
Thank you in advance for clarifying above.
I really appreciated reply for my questions as it would allow me to move forward. I will ensure a good documentation at the end of the process for benefit of other users.

Install Adfree or something which requires root acess for installation. Once rooted download something like root explorer from market which allows you to backup the modem.bin file. Or me or somebody else can just upload the file here.
Read the post/link in the thread where you downloaded Roto's JMI rom.
Use the .pit file from Roto's link not the thing which you posted...same place where you got the same ROM file. If you are flashing first time/from another rom then use the Full v2 zip file. Else use Update v2 when flashing from one of Roto's rom.
Connect the tab to your pc, reboot and go into download mode...press power+vol down button while rebooting...a yellow triangle icon with an android digging will come up...to get out of download mode, just keep the power button pressed till it rebooted normally.
Once in download mode, open up Odin and check that the yellow com box option is on. Check repartition option to ensure everything is wiped and you have a fresh install from scratch.
For PIT select the pit file downloaded from roto's link
For PDA select the Full.tar file
For PHONE select the modem.bin file
For CSC leave it blank...
Once done, recheck and hit start.
PLEASE CHECK ROTO'S JMI V2 THREAD IN THE DEVELOPEMENT SECTION...it has a link to howto which is old but gives some idea of how to proceed...for pit, pda, phone follow as I suggested and things will go fine...

I followed the steps after flashing 'full' tar, it rebooted tab, started the normally. After that, I verified that, all applications , phone (GSM) and wifi working fine.
Now my question is do I really need to flash *second* tar file ? what is it for ?
^^No. It is only for people upgrading from previous versions! You are good to go!
Now, I want to install CWM recovery. Please some one can confirm below steps:
1. Make sure to have Samsung Kies installed, and your tab at least connected once, to be sure the drivers are correct.
2. Your Tab must be Rooted.
3. If you wish to do a backup, now is the time.
4. You will need an SD Card with enough free space for the filesystem conversion, and to put the Overcome ROM on before we start. (An empty 4gb should be plenty, as long as it is empty, or close too)
5. Download and Extract the following file to your computer: http://www.apksmash.com/corodius/galaxytab.zip (Contains "Odin3 v.1.7.exe" "Overcome_Kernel_v1.0")
Now, we will Install the Kernel and perform the EXT4 filesystem conversion.
1. Turn off your Galaxy Tab.
2. Turn your Galaxy Tab on into DOWNLOAD mode (Press Volume DOWN and Power On at the same time).
3. Open Odin3 v1.7.exe on your PC.
4. Connect your Galaxy Tab to your PC via the USB cable.
5. Make Sure the ID:COM box is highlighted yellow (meaning it sees your tab).
6. Click on the PDA button and select the Overcome_Kernel_v1.0.tar file you downloaded earlier (make sure PDA is ticked after selecting the file).
7. The only boxes ticked should be:
A. Auto Reboot
B. F. Reset Time
C. The PDA tickbox
8. Click start and wait for PASS! to show highlighted green on Odin.
9. Your Galaxy Tab will Reboot, and get stuck on the Samsung Boot Screen. This is fine.
10. Turn your Galaxy Tab off by holding the power button for about 5 seconds.
11. Turn your Galaxy Tab on into RECOVERY mode (Press Volume UP and Power On at the same time).
12. The Galaxy Tab will now perform the EXT4 conversion.
13. Sit tight, depending on how much data you have, this can take quite a long time.
14. Once finished, click reboot system now (by pressing the power button).
At this point, You have installed the Overcome Kernel with CWM included and converted the Filesystem to EXT4. It has been reported that many stock ROMs will boot and run fine now, however some may not, but it just depends on your ROM etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11713685.
Would be there any problem ? or is there any easy way to install CWM Recovery.
I had bricked my tab while modding battery icon and it was not booting now. Now i want to flash with the custom rom available here. I am noob to flashing so just want to confirm the steps mentioned above applicable to the bricked tab. Can somebody guide me for bircked tab.
Please mentioned the good custom rom with Ext4 conversion at the time of install. I am using indian tab.

[Q] Captivate ODIN doesnt see Cappy, in DL mode too

In normal running mode ODIN sees the Cappy, but when I switch to download mode it doesn't see it any more. I am trying to put my phone back to factory default so I can install CM7 but running into all kinds of problems. I did get the base system reinstalled using a One Click JAR that I found here on XDA. The phone seems to be ok with that.
ADB doesnt think there are any devices attached either when I am in download mode.
I did also try the Heimdall install methods and used their drivers, but that doesnt work either
All I am trying to do so far is get CWM installed
Any ideas?
Did you ever use Heimdall?

In normal running mode ODIN sees the Cappy, but when I switch to download mode it doesn't see it any more. I am trying to put my phone back to factory default so I can install CM7 but running into all kinds of problems. I did get the base system reinstalled using a One Click JAR that I found here on XDA. The phone seems to be ok with that.

If you used a one-click jar file, I believe you used Heimdall, as Odin-based one-clicks would be .exe files. That being the case, if one of the one-click heimdalls worked, other ones should work as well.
If you don't mind me asking, which one-click did you use? What rom were you on when the other one worked, and what rom are you on now?
I installed this "SamsungCaptivate-SGHi897-UCKB2-Rooted-One-Click.jar" to get it to work in what I think is a factory default.
I am now trying to get the downloading to be recognized by Odin or Heimhall or anything/.
They all see the phone in normal mode but when in download they do not see it
Have you tried all of the USB ports on your computer? If you're on a desktop, make sure it's one of the ones in the back (directly attached to the motherboard). Also, if you haven't rebooted your computer, do that, and then see if the UCKB2 one-click sees your device.
You can also try the full heimdall package, as that has a tool that will quickly check to see if it sees a device in download mode.
ODIN doesnt see Cappy
Looks like the drivers from Heimhall mess up the ODIN drivers. I removed the drivers from System Drivers that the Heimhall installed and now the ODIN seems to see the device again.
Now I need to figure out what I need to put on the device to make it work

einstall the Samsung drivers. The zadig driver you installed for Heimdall causes problems with dl mode if you then try to use Odin.

I just figured this out. Now what CWM file does ODIN want? After all of this I am lost! I will start back at the first post on adding CWM I guess...!!
It's going to want a kernel with CWM baked into it, or you can flash the JF6-based one click file to get back to stock without the 3e recovery error. From there you can just root, then copy the rom you want to install to your internal SD card. Rename it "update.zip", and flash that.
If memory serves me correctly, that's the simplest way to flash from Eclair. You can also try to Odin in a CWM-friendly Froyo kernel, or copy the cwm file out of the AIO captivate toolbox (copy it out, don't directly use the tool).
To get cwm, use a kernel with cwm as jimtheiss said, in a tar format. Older Talon kernels were in tar, as was Speedmod, and I think xcal's reoriented kernel had a tar version.
Open Odin, use the pda slot for the kernel, uncheck reboot. Connect phone. When the yellow box lights up, hit start. When completed, pull the battery, reinsert battery, use button combo to get in recovery.

I can't seem to find Eclair with CWM. I did find a I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0 EXE with ODIN built into the EXE but whatever happens on that version ODIN didnt see the phone.
The ODIN 1.85 sees the phone, but I do not know what to download and what there downloaded file goes in ODIN.
I also ran the JAR file again and it did get back to 2.2 but then I dont seem to be able to get CWM working.
All I wanted to do it put CM7 on the phone. I guess I have to have Eclair or Froyo first to get the CM7? I think that is what I read. I havent tried it from GB
I would suggest following mrhaley's directions about flashing the kernel.
And here is the speedmod kernel.

My 2 cents....if you have so much difficulty using Odin/Heimdall, I would highly recommend staying away from CM7 or MIUI until you are really comfortable flashing stuff without hiccups. CM7 and MIUI are quite different beasts, compare to the ROms ur flashing.

The only thing he needs to flash with Odin/Heimdall is the kernel to get cwm. Its the same for most other GB roms. After you get cwm, its just flashing from cwm, with an extra factory reset and ROM flash.

[Q] Screwed my i9000, requesting help :(

Feel free to mock me at any time for my horrible work
I decided today to finally upgrade from Darky's 9.4 to 10.4. Put the zip file on, and have tried to flash through ODIN.
When it goes to install, it comes up with:
Installing Core System...
This might take a while...
E:Error in /mnt/sdcard/DarkyROM_v10.4.2.xip
(Status0)
Installation aborted
I've tried everything I know (which isn't much, to be fair) and I can't even get the phone to boot up normally. It appears in Odin, but I honestly have no idea what to do. I'd be happy to go back to the stock rom (although I can't find my firmware anywhere, Optus in Australia)
Please, xda, I beg of you some assistance. I will handsomely reward you in cookies if you can help me, or direct me to a thread (which I haven't been able to find) which will help me.
Edit: Some more information, on the green text screen, I have options for advanced ClockWorkMod features, and advanced SpeedMod ULK features
*I have no idea what I'm doing dog.gif*
You tried to flash the zip file through CWM, not Odin, didn't you? And can you boot into download mode or even into CWM recovery?
Okay probably the easiest way out is to do this: read the whole Darky ROM 10.4.2 thread. You find that you must install "base rom" before you can install that package, and it must be installed with Darky app, not CWM.
So, the way out:
(from the Darky 10.4.2 thread, http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/darkyrom-v10-4-2-xwjw1.6577/ )
Long Guide(from stock ROM/froyo ROM/CM ROM/MIUI ROM)
1.Download DarkyROM 10.2 RE Odin ROM
2.Extract ZIP
3.Start Odin 1.3
4.Put the pit file in PIT
5.Tick repartition
6.Put PDA.tar it into PDA
7.Put phone in Download Mode (vol-down+home+pwr)
8.Connect through USB to your computer (make sure Kies is off)
9.Hit Start and wait for process to complete and your phone to restart
10.Once phone has booted restart into recovery mode (vol-up+home+power)
11.Go to voodoo and enable both lagfixes and restart phone
Download DarkyOTA from the market
12.Copy the downloaded DarkyROM v10.4.2 ROM to your internal phone storage (straight to the main directory / no sub-folders).
13.Open the "DarkyOTA" App
14.Go to the "DarkyROM" Tab and configure the ROM before flashing (Don't tick "Ad-Hoc").
15.Tick "Wipe"
This will delete your apps and settings, but not your media content.
16.Add file /sdcard/Darky/no-mods if you dont want to install mods (locks toggles powermenu crt)
17.Go to the "General" Tab and select "Flash/Install File from SDCARD".
18.Scroll down and select the desired ROM to flash.
19.Confirm the warning and wait for the installation to finish.
20.Enjoy
ask if you didnt understand something, I will help!=)
hope that helps

You, my good sir, are an absolute genius.
I'm only halfway through it, but you have saved my life substantially here.
I cannot express my gratitude enough, (assuming it works of course ) but I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My amateurish mistake was not downloading 10.4.2 and not putting in PDA.tar (which is probably a really big issue, which I didn't realise)
And my phone has just booted up to 10.2!
laehtis, I do not know who you are, but I give you 100 karma points. You have earned them. Go do something evil, as your generosity here today has made up for at least a week's worth of good deeds.
(If I could post an appropriate dog/meme picture, I would)
Hit the thanks button on the man's post then.

Unbrick Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000

Having looked at the thread regarding a similar predicament that I have (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783556), I'm keen to know I can use ODIN to put on a new ROM. Basically these are the steps I've followed;
1. Used KIES to update my ROM from Gingerbread to ICS
2. Use ODIN to update root my phone with CM9 safe kernel (not knowing it would have been significantly better to have copied my new AOKP ICS ROM to the internal SD card first)
3. Rebooted my phone and cannot get past 'SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE GT-N7000' logo.
4. I can still boot into download mode and use ODIN but wondered how I should use it to install a ROM as none of the ROM's I've downloaded, are in the correct .tar, md5, smd format, that OSIN is looking for ?
Some pretty basic reading for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321268

First of all, I'm not sure if this is the answer your looking for, but here is it anyway.
IN PC ODIN, there is a 'PDA' button (same button you flashed your kernel to), you need to download the ROM's zip file and flash it from there.
Stock ROM file you download is zip, you need to extract it one time to get into .tar, then you can use that file with pda of odin.

Would these be the files needed to get my phone back up and running? I am new to Android and screwed my phone up after a factory reset, now it just reads downloading for ages and does nothing. I still get a screen that reads Hyperdroid RedPill Recovery when i power on with volume button up pressed. Volume down I get Android man and it reads downloading but does nothing.
I have looked all over for this situation but seem to get a piece here and there and not the exact same issue all in one so I am reluctant to just do something and make it worse.
Please advise
That is downloading mod, it won't do anything but remain as it is, if you don't do anything.
You need to connect you device to PC in this state and have to use odin
Read 1st line on my sign and read post#2, you will get full instruction, how to use odin.
