Are you saying if I want Win7 on my N1 then I don't belong in the N1 forum? How does that make any sense?

Don't get me wrong, being a developer I love android. But I get paid alot more for developing Microsoft applications, its just the way it is. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. As far as mobile apps I have developed alot more android apps than I have windows. I love android but I also love windows and so does HTC. The only os I can say I really don't like is ios. So if I offended anyone I appologize. I'm just a gadget junkie who likes technology.

We actually have Ubuntu on Nexus One, I wonder if there's a virtual machine software for ARM architecture Ubuntu and... we then may be able to run windows 7 on Nexus One I know it'll be extremely difficult hahaha

TeamViewer works to remotely control a Windows 7 PC from your phone if that's good enough for what you want to do.

It is not possible because N1 has only 512mb ram
n Win7 cannot run directly on ARM cpu
so...you cannot even install it (requirement of Win7 is 1gb of ram and x86 [email protected])

I think the OP meant Windows Phone 7. But still, in a word, no. It will never happen. It's one thing to get an OS running which also runs on the Linux kernel, includes drivers for most of this hardware, supports this architecture, and is free to modify open source code. But Windows is none of these (except that it supports ARM). So no, not unless Microsoft helps us out with drivers and the source code. Anybody wanna call and ask them for it?

Why does android runs on HTC HD2? I think it's possibleee!

Android is open source. Meaning anyone can tweak it to work on any hardware, assuming the hardware has open source drivers, or can use drivers from other Android devices. That's the beauty of free software. Windows is closed-source and proprietary. Nobody can change it to work on other hardware. I'm not saying it's impossible to do, I'm saying it's impossible to even try without the source. Even then it would most likely be a monstrous task. But we'll never know for sure how difficult it will be, because nobody except Microsoft can even try. Understand? That's the difference between open and closed. And that's why many of us frown on Windows here.

[Q] Web OS

I'm just asking this out of curiosity but let me get to the point. I'm a big fan of MIUI and CyanogenMod 7 on my Captivate and of course those operating systems were not designed to be on the Captivate. Well I was wondering because the Captivate is a popular phone if it would be possible to port Web OS to the phone.
From G1 forum:

would porting webOS to an android phone seem possible? I had a palm pre for a bit was cool and fast, I like android more but the thought of running it would be cool

In a word:
No.
In more words:
We need drivers. There are no WebOS drivers for Android devices. Many of the existing drivers that we need are proprietary, meaning (and I'm not sure on this part) most likely the hardware specifications necessary to write drivers are closed as well. If they are not closed, it would be possible--but not for a team of geeks like XDA. You'd need a major entity, like Google, to do it, which won't happen. Besides, not all of WebOS is completely open-source, just like not ALL of what goes into Android phones is. It's just not possible--even if the driver issue could be overcome, which it can't.

More than likely it would be put on a new phone. I doubt it'll ever be open enough to be ported.

WOW!!! Why are there so many NEGATIVE and CRANKY people here in the Note forum? I have been a user of XDA for a loooooong time and I have never seen so many negative responses in any other device forum (except maybe the Galaxy Nexus forum - Their pretty cranky in there too).
Also... Who are you (or anyone for that matter) to say that if you are developing for Android on Windows that it is a disgrace? May I remind you that Windows is the 99.9 % DOMINANT Computer OS in the world?! If it was'nt for people developing on Windows I would have to say that we as a community would NOT have 90% of the ROMS, Themes, Tweaks or Apps that we have now so get real and keep your silly Linux fanboi comments to yourself.
As for the OP... All he is doing is trying to spread the word on that script which may indeed be helpful to someone who may NOT often check in the "Android" bulk forum so why dont you just cut him a break?

Was it useful for any developer here? No
Does it pertain to Note development? No
Is this guy ever gonna check back on this post? No
Is Linux better than Windows? Yes, tenfold...even for a non power user like myself.
Are we STILL stuck in a Windows centric world? Yes, unfortunately.
Do developers mainly develop with Windows in mind? Yes, unfortunately. I had to use a Windows computer, gasp, to root my Note because there was no way for me to root it with Linux until I found out about Heimdall.
Edit: Why am I and everyone else so cranky? Because we all have the best phone around and are therefore superior in every way. Duh.

Two possibilities here:
You don't get much.
You are married.
Which is it?
Macs are just as susceptible to viruses as anything else. Always have been. They just aren't targeted as much. Apple even sells an antivirus, they just keep it hush hush.
While windows is Targeted much much more, you can be much better defended if you know what you are doing.
The next time someone tells you, "Macs don't get viruses", ask them, "Then why does Apple sell an antivirus?"

Yea, I was going to say the same thing. You can't void you warranty if you cant root your device.....YET..
Here's a silly question, is someone currently working on a root or is all hope given up? Just asking.
Most people working on WP have tended to stay rather quiet until there was something concrete to anounce. But given that they deemed most of the original Lumias unhackable unless they came from the factory with an unlocked Bootloader (as some did due to an error in manufacturing) it is entirely possible they are not working on trying to break Secure Boot.
But in the end: we simply don't know.
No.
No one is working on anything. Fact is, no one is interested.
You pick your poison, work on Lumia or work on a HTC device, but fact is there aren't enough modders/developers with devices to support any effort if there is any to begin with. Each device would require a different method , and the fact this secure boot is so different only adds to the dilemma.

Think of the options. If they make one device and you can have your pick of sense, aosp, or windows which is actually gaining market share. I think the idea is kinda brilliant. Especially if its the same exact device.
How is it considered spreading yourself thin if you're making the same device on multiple carriers anyways?
It would be a great idea to have one device with multiple platform choices. However, it sounds like the Windows device is going to have ddr3 memory so I wonder what else will be different? I could completely see myself switching platforms weekly, it's like getting a new phone, but keeping the same one.

When did this change? I got started in modifying my phone with windows mobile and it was never an issue then. That's when i started on xda and ppcgeeks. ROM development was a different scene and the process was different but windows software was modified hacked and releases for the masses.

Nothing changed. As I said before, it is the same old issue that has always been an issue. Technically most ROM modification stuff going on here is illegal.
A few thoughts:
1 - The difference between us and the HD2 is that the HD2 started with Windows Phone on it. Then, it got an improved Windows Phone 7, but I think they got away with it because the device initially had WP. Then, it got Android. In that order, its fine because Android is open source. Unfortunately, WP is not open source. MeeGo and Tizen are open source, and perhaps could be ported to the One if the development is good enough/popular enough. Never underestimate the power of the developers on this forum: especially when they team up.
2 - They get an SD card slot? UNFAIR!! :crying:
3 - @raptoro07 It says in your sig. that you have 2 HTC Ones. Wanna give one to me? Lol I haven't gotten mine yet--I'm not sure if I'll go with AT&T or Sprint. I really wanna stay with Sprint since I've met a lot of devs on here that have Sprint who I like and I want to have their work on my future devices. But, as long as I'm on a shared plan with my parents, I can't make that decision. This qualifies another :crying: if you ask me.

If you don't mind the ugly logo on the back, the AT&T One is exactly like the Google Play edition/Dev edition (AFAIK). Except, you know, the logo on the back.
Also, Android is open source. Windows is not. That means it's less illegal...
While the actual distribution of full ROMs is technically illegal (you're "stealing" HTC's code), I'm pretty sure you're allowed to modify your own phone, even if it does remove warranty.

This is the same age old question/problem that has plaqued XDA since it's inception. Technically, everything we do here on the site is Illegal (or at least against the wishes of the manufacturers).

Windows is paid ssoftware with a very restrictive license. Cyanogenmod, aosp, linux kernel, and many other projects here are free and have open source licenses that encourage people to modify and distribute the software.

However Sense, Beats, Touchwiz, and other OEM software is not open and therefore redistribution of them and modifications are technically illegal. My point was only to say that it is no different than 90% of what is going on XDA.
Take a look here. The HTC 8XT with boomsound. Windows 8 phone.

If you ask me, neither look like something to write home about. I would've loved it back in 2011 when I went to buy an HTC Arrive. But, then I got an Android, and, yeah I'm pretty much addicted now.
BUT ON THE OTHER HAND....
Android could be ported to either of these devices with no real legal uncertainty... It depends which and how many devs buy one.
