At first when I was using the stock web browser gif images were working but now they don't. Is there anyway to fix this?
Are you still using the stock browser? Have you tinkered with any settings?
I've been using dolphon hd for the browser for awhile now, so I forget what all is in the settings menu for stock, but in dolphin, there is an option to disable flash completely, enable on demand, and enable all the time. I reckon just go into the settings and browse through all the setting subfolders and look for any options about flash or images and try to find out what's wrong.
Or, pull the browser.apk from any of the ROM builds on here and transfer it to your phone, use root explorer and go to system>apps and delete the browser.apk from there, then back out of that menu, and find the browser.apk you just transfered to your phone, and copy and paste it back in the system>app folder.
Ok I'll try that. Thanks.

Any clever soul figure out how to change this on the stock browser under the official froyo? About:debug does not let you change this like you could on eclair...
would like to know this also, can't find anything about how to get it on galaxy s
Same problem here with galaxy s and JP6 firmware. What's the use of flash if you can't view desktop websites
For Froyo 2.2 only
1. download file attached
2. close any running Internet Browser on your SGS
3. use Root Explorer, change to r/w mode, then:
- copy and paste (overwrite) the downloaded file to /system/app
- delete Browser.odex in /system/app
4. reboot
5. "about:debug" and u'll find the user agent
**Edit: You should ask in Q/A thread instead
Try Dolphin HD and Desktop Toggles addon
I prefer it over the stock browser, although it does have some performance issues from time to time.

Did the steps above but still no UA ?
Is that browser apk the newest or did you pull it from that old jpk browser fix thread? Is it from jpa, jpm, or jpa?

My fault, system was mounted as read only. Now it works
How do you mount system as not read only?Guessing you need root, what is the simplest way to achieve this?

To achieve root?
I rooted my phone with One Click Lagfix from RyanZA. There is an option to root your device for android 2.1 but also work for froyo you have to force the install. The apk will download file to the root of your sdcard.
All you have to do is restart the phone into recovery modus and choose the option "aply update.zip" and youre done.
OCLF doesn't seem to work on jpm, but figure I'll try this when it does. Anyway, where does this browser file come from?
WTF?
i do step by step of "pcboyy" and now my browser is comletly gone!!!
what is this?
Is there a way to get the default samsung style text messaging conversations back to the speech bubbles. I am currently using di11is5.1 ROM. I like the look and feel of this ROM but I really liked the way the OEM text conversations looked.
You just need to change the mms.apk to whichever you prefer. It is located in /system/app and you will need a file manager such as root explorer or use ADB commands to place it there.
I am not sure what ROM's use which messaging app as I use handcent but you can surely get the stock one from the jh7 ota zip thread. Just download that and pull it from the zip.
I hate to be such a noob but how do I replace the file I have tried but I get an error that the file already exists. I have tried to remove the file but I get a message about read only file.
What method are you using?
Iwas trying to use Terminal emulator to copy the file from the internal SD card to the /system/app folder. I have tried to "mv /system/app/Kmart.API /sdcard/" I get the message about file is write only.

The easiest way for me is to use root explorer. Pay for it in the market, it’s the best money you will spend for managing your phone. Download the new apk to the sd card on your phone. Use root explorer, go to /system/app, and mount as r/w. Long press the existing apk > rename it (add .bak at the end) > copy the new apk to the /system/app > click on the new file and install.
can someone please post this apk?
ill put it up when i get on my computer at home
Your welcome
Now you say/press thanks

I'm trying to change the icons on the app drawer with Root Explorer but I can't find the correct PNG to replace that on the system/app/"application.apk"/res/drawable/_____.png
Anyone knows the right name of the icon?
Thanks!
res/drawable-hdpi/file_manager_r.png ypu will have to turn the apk into a zip then put your new file into the hdpi folder and change the zip back to an apk then re install
Can I follow this steps with the Captivate or I need to do this on the computer?
Any easy way?
Thanks for the tip!
hi, i changed an image in drawable-hdpi in "phone.apk" (ic_jog_dial_unlock.png) like aceman said, but if i try to install new phone.apk it says "application not installed" (or something similar, my language phone is not english). how can i install new phone.apk??
I tried to istall it from recovery and there is the same result
thanks
You have to push the phone.apk file into /system/app with a root explorer or adb. Just installing it won't work like most other apks.
i have "root browser", can i use it? can u say to me all the steps i have to do with it or adb? i'm not an android expert user...
up...anyone ca help me?
install a different launcher app that lets you customize it. try launcherpro from the android market.
you wont understand the mod instructions.
screw it here they are...
mod instructions... basic if you need more info. learn to search there are 4000 guides on how to change an app image.
you need winrar on windows. if you arent running windows you should know better.
use root level file manager to go to 'system/app' folder and copy your launcher.apk to sdcard.
copy to PC
right click .apk > open with... > choose program > WinRar
look through folders inside APK and copy all folders with .PNG images to desktop (or work folder)
look through the images in the folders (change veiw to thumbnails) and find the name of the image you want to change and the name of the folder it was in.
Go get, or create your custom image, and name it that name. **Close to original shape size.
Use winRar to open the .APK again and naviage to the place where your image goes and drop the new one into that folder.
A window with options will come up and select Compression Profile : STORE
Click ok
Close winrar.
Copy .apk to SDcard
Use root file manager to rename original /system/app/launcher.apk to launcher.apk.bak (backup)
Then copy your modded .apk to /system/app.
Reboot (pull battery)
DONT MESS WITH ANY IMAGE ENDING IN .9.PNG only regular .pngs
for more on .9.pngs... search google.. what is ....
i*have*to*modify*phone.apk,*no*launcher.apk..*i*just*did*steps*you*sayd,*but*if*i*try*to*rename*phone.apk,*my*nexus*goes*in*full*crash
fist off this is the Captivate forums. not nexus.
and i was giving help to OP question not yours. either way the *stars*and*sp ac*es are friggin annoying. use your computer if your phone is messed up.
if you "tried" to modify the name... DID IT? try doesnt tell me much.
if it wouldnt let you, then nothing changed and your phone is screwed up from something else.
if it DID rename, then CHANGE IT BACK.. duh.
sorry for space and *, i wrote it with the mouse using google translate keybord and i saw them when i cut/past the text
i "tried" to rename phone.apk, so the phone went in a full crash and i had to restore system using an old backup in recovery

Try apktool to extract all replace wteva ocon u want to and rebuild apk using the same tool and u need to sign the apk usin signapk tool so that device can recognise the.apk file for installation. I have done this and everything went fine in galaxy note. But i couldn't locate the file to rename the icon. Icon changing was not a prob.
Hello all,
I have tried MIUI latest version but it was a bit buggy so I'm back to stock JVH. I really liked DSP Manager in MIUI and would like to install it on my JVH stock ROM. I have tried to install stand alone .APK opens ok, but it's doing nothing while trying to change settings inside the APK.
Can somebody help me please?
Thank you!
I think, it only works with Stock Music App or MIUI Music App. Try one of those and report back.

Is there any working guide for I9000?
Thank you!
I think Gingerbread already has some sort of EQ support, try one of those apps in Market? It may not be exactly DSP Manager of MIUI but you may be able to achieve something similar.
Instructions - Root explorer (Requires root)
copy both the files to your SD Card (DSPmanager.apk and music.apk)
1.Load Root Explorer. Go into System -> apps
2.Scroll down till you see the music player.apk file.
3.Select and hold down until a pop up appears.
4.Select "Rename"". Add .bak to the file, so it reads music player.apk.bak.
5.Select the file again as above, but now select move.
6.Press the back key until you go back to the system root (/) and then go go the SDcard folder.
7.Select Paste. You now have your original player backed up and safe if you wish to revert.
8.Now install the Music.apk.
9.Now install DSPmanager.apk.
View attachment DSPManager.apk
View attachment Music.apk
this guide is for sgs2 however try it,in theory it should work equally!!!!

Anyone tried if this works?
I just updated to 4.2.1 and rooted
I really hate Chrome and miss the stock AOSP browser I was using on CM10
Is there an easy way to set up that basic/stock browser? Key word "easy" unless I can get some really good step-by-step instructions.
I think loading flash is as easy as installing an APK at that point.
Thanks!

follow the instructions written by Spannaa and use the browser apk attached to turbotab's post.
good luck :good:
if ya need additional help; step by step let me know tbh
jt.one is right. You just need root, a file manager like Root Explorer (superb paid app), ES File explorer or Astro (both free), and the browser.apk from the link above.
1. Rename the 2 BrowserProxyProvider files in /system/app by appending a .bak extension on them.
2. Copy Browser.apk into the /system/app folder.
3. Set the proper permissions (check permissions on another app to see what it should look like).
4. Sideload flash after downloading it from the Adobe website if you don't have it already installed.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm unclear what the proper order is to do this.
OR easier yet......
download the latest Dolphin browser from the market...
and navigate to:
data/data/mobi.mgeek.Tunny/Browser/shared_prefs/
using root explorer or equivalent and delete:
mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser_preferences.xml.
Thus re-enabled flash in dolphin.......

Excellent instructions. I'm about 90% with you, except for #3. I know how to assign permissions, but am unclear about the part to check permissions on another app. Just any old app? So for example I browsed to /system/app and found GoogleEarth.apk. Its permissions are
rw- r-- r--
So browser.apk will have those exact permissions?
Thank you!!!
UPDATE: The download file is browser.zip am I to rename this to APK?

Good video, but it revealed something very important that's missing....
the fact that you can't use bookmarks in the stock browser..... they won't work.
That kills it for me.
Now i'm not sure what to do. Keep Chrome, but not have flash? I use flash-embeded sites almost regularly (just came from CM10) but it was pretty unstable...
Whoa partner. Bookmarks work just fine with the AOSP browser. At the upper right in the browser there is a heart (add bookmark), magnifying glass (search) and an icon with a star in it (bookmarks). It came with many common links, espn, cnn, twitter, facebook, etc. and it is easy to add them. Any page you want to bookmark, just hit the star to add it. I don't think it will sync your existing Chrome bookmarks, but once you manually add them, you can back them up with Titanium backup so you won't have to add them again. Flash works perfectly with the aosp browser and it is fast.
Yes, set the permissions the same as GoogleEarth (long press, permissions). Must be in r/w mode not read only to view or change permissions. The top 3 should be checked for 'Read' and just the top one for 'Write'.
I d/l the browser.apk link in the second post to my computer and it came through as browser.apk. Then I copied it to my phone. If you got browser.zip, did you d/l it directly to the phone? The file that must be copied into /system/app is browser.apk. Look at the browser.zip and see if it can be unzipped and contains browser.apk. If not, try renaming it to browser.apk

You're absolutely correct. I don't know what the guy in the vid was talking about. I was able to get stock browser installed, flash installed, set up bookmarks, set up non-chrome bookmark widget...so the stock bookmark widget which is far superior to Chrome.
Everything the way I like it. Thanks for pointing that out. That's awesome.
THANKS TO EVERYONE ON THIS POST WHO WAS SO QUICK TO HELP OUT. I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY
