My friend has asked me to flash his phone with new firmware.
But he is on the Telstra network with 850MHz NextG so I want to keep the modem.bin file he has currently on his phone.
I would just create the firmware with the modem.bin file that he has but I can't seem to get it for download. there is one rapidfile link but it looks like it has been removed from the server and I can't seem to get I9000TDVJH3.tar anywhere.
I can only seem to get the CSC file.
If I flash his phone with Odin without that file would it just stay the same? And would I have to remove the dbdata.rfs?
If anyone has the modem.bin i'm looking for can they please pm me. Thanks.

I'm trying to install the DocRambone series on my Samsung Galaxy S, but when I get to HOWTO#1 it says:
"2.Select the PDA/Modem/CSC/.PIT files in Odin. (.PIT and PDA are required. CSC and Modem are HIGHLY recommended. They may be necessary depending on the PDA! Try flashing all three BEFORE reporting bugs, if you only used one initially!)"
Now, the .PIT file I've already found(I chose the 512 since I understand that the 513 is for older versions and 803 is for Froyo). But I don't know where to find the other things, meaning PDA, CSC and Modem? Which ones should if pick(if there is more than one) and why?
If they are on my phone already, how do I mount them in Odin?
My firmware version is
PDA: I9000XWJM2
Phone: I9000XXJM1
CSC: I9000NEEJM1
Thanks alot

Anyone who can help me?
Which Version Froyo? It sounds like you like to flash Froyo..
ok
You must make a Clean Stock Froyo Install.. I think u choose XXJPK take the files at the Tut..! ;D And then you can flash the "Custom Rom" via update.zip
Think thats it is what u mean..
I'm not flashing Froyo, I'm flashing for DocRomboe which is 2.1 (I think?) .. but like I said, the guide sais what I said above.. I need to find PDA, CSC and modem files, because (accordimg to the guide) Odin needs those files.. I'm following the big faq guide, so if anyone could tell me what to do, I'd appreciate it

Oh come on, I really wanna do this soon !!
Read the Docrombone thread again and see what rom it is for. Its a mod. Now go find the rom it wants, something like say JM5 or JM8? do a search and you'll see people link it. Or goto http://www.samfirmware.com/ and make a account to view the firmwares there. I have no idea what rom that mod wants since you are the one wanting to install it
If you are looking for MODEM and CSC files specifically for 2.1, you can pull the ones from Richthofen's post here
-OR-
If you want to maintain your JM1 MODEM/CSC files, like the above poster suggested, visit Samfirmware
If you open the .tar file you find the "zimage" "pram.lfs" modem.bin" "farctory.rfs" "cache.rfs"
my question is, If I remove all the files except the modem.bin and put this in odin as phone will this update my modem only? Keeping my firmware etc.
Thanks,
Luke.
Bump!
Can anyone answer this?
I don't want to just try it and end up having to flash again
Hey Guys,
I picked up a galaxy tab today, and tried flashing to get voice call capabilities which is what got me to flash to JHA. I am on bell in Canada and I was not able to get data communications, but I could make a call. The APN management area wanted me to enter text for what type of APN it is, when it should be a drop down. I tried putting in "Internet + mms" but it didn't help. So, I tried flashing up to something new, figuring I would try JM6, but I started to have odin fail. I tried various combination firmware with the PIT files recommended by samsunfirmware, but I haven't been able to get any to flash successfully. For instance, I tried following this howto...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
And on step A I have Odin failing saying on boot.bin.
<ID:0/011> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/011> Initialzation..
<ID:0/011> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/011> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/011> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/011> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/011> boot.bin
<ID:0/011>
<ID:0/011> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
<ID:0/011> Removed!!
Can anyone help me figure out the best way to get this firmware up to the best available currently for operation on Bell?

I tried flashing JJ4 yes, and it would fail. I finally was able to get my phone flashed by creating a custom pda image. So far, I can get all data communications and I can make calls without a problem now. I am uploading the custom tar that I made right now to me server in case anyone wants to use it. I used P1_20100909.pit for the pit file. Here is the PDA/Modem/CSC Files I used. I give no guarantee that this will work for everyone, but I went through a lot of pain in the you know what you get this figured out and working properly. I love in BC Canada and I am on Bell Mobility. I have a fully functional Tab now...
http://www.neg1.net/Custom.tar Use this as the PDA file.
http://www.neg1.net/modem_bell_i9000.zip Use the modem.bin file inside of this ZIP file.
http://www.neg1.net/CSC_P1000OXAJM6.tar.md5 Use this as the CSC file.
Flash these using ODIN 1.7 and I was all good to go.

Why are you flashing JHA? Don't you need to use JJ4 then JK5 per AT&T tab instruction from clubtech?
You might want to post in Development forum i guess.

Not sure why you had issue as i've seen Bell users flashed theirs using AT&T steps and it works. Perhaps it's different now. Thanks for sharing.

Bell Galaxy Tab Voice - with Gingerbread?
Hi Guys,
I have the following :
Bell Galaxy Tab GT-P1000M
Firmware 2.3.3 (just upgraded from Froyo)
Baseband Version P1000MUGKF6
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7
Build GINGERBREAD.UGKF6
Any idea if I can flash just the modem rom and get voice calls, or must I do everything and revert back to 2.2 froyo to get voice functionality?
Thanks for any answers!
I just rooted mine after a wipe (from 2.3), then and flashed to Overcome 3.1 Kratos, boom - voice calls and Netflix.

Hey Ive done the same thang but it wont let me make or recieve calls, any reason why?? Ill let me dial but then ends right away and when im caling my tab its goes straight to the vmail. PLs help.
@junooni.1980 I think you got radio/modem that is not voice capable. Do you have rogers/bell/at&t tab? if so try KG3 modem from galaxy i9000 forum.
Anybody else trying to get voice / data , just flash DXJPI rom and flash KG3 modem.
Did same as Directional and everything works great. Voice & data. Using rogers gt p1000

hey bro thanx for ur reply, im sorta noob, Im running Kratos right now & Its a rogers tab which i sim unlocked it to use it on Bell. So from here i dont know what to do, is there a possibility if you can guide me to a step by step process who to do and what to do. Thanks so much.
So all i have to do is root and install the kratos rom and flash the modem and I get voice?
Just use the jpz modem. I have had my bell tab unlocked since launch and using it on telus with voice. I run cm7 and have no issues. Also you could flash all the modems you want, if bell is blocking voice to tabs via device check or imei then it will never work.

Ok here is what you need to do.
1. Flash your captivate with this stock 2.2 Rom. This one will remove the AT&T boot logo. And when flashing do make sure to check the repartition box and use the pit file
Files:
Rogers 2.2 ATT Free
Pit File
2. When you finished flashing, go to the phone dialer and dial *#1234#, if your CSC Version is unknow then put the phone back into download mode. And flash this 2.2 Rom, this one contains the missing CSC file version and make sure to only check the PDA on Odin3 and don't use the pit file and uncheck the Re-Partition box!!!!!!
When finish flashing go the dialer and dial *#1234#, to see the csc version: I896RWCJL1. And connect to kies to see if your phone is recognize. If your having problem PM me.
Files:
Rogers 2.2 Missing CSC
Thanks, I'll give it a shot..
worked like a charm thanks!
I tried to modify the NV_Data.bin myself but the guide is for i897 models, which are the same but not so it wasn't working.
Now im ready to take the official update if rogers ever pushes it.

Make sure you properly modify the NV_Data.bin, or else when you connect to kies it's going to say for the CSC version: JL1 (ATT). If you need help modifying the NV_Data.bin, I'll help you with it.

I had already modified it but was still getting CSC : Unknown, after flashing the new rom it began to work as it should.

Glad I could help.
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone would happen to know how to restore a .tar file that I downloaded from sammobile.com/firmware/ . I got it in the hopes it would have a seperate PDA, CSC etc. files so I could restore using Odin put I have to admit I was stumped when I just got one .tar file. The file in question is Optus' 2.3.3 firmware and is called 'jvn_jv5_jv1.tar' if it's any help. The files inside the tar are:
-zImage
-param.lfs
-cache.rfs
-factoryfs.rfs
-boot.bin
-modem.bin
-Sbl.bin
Thanks.
Not 100% certain on this so perhaps wait for a confirmation but I think that if you only have one tar file you put it in the PDA and flash it.

Can totally confirm this!!
But if you want further confirmation there are instructions on sammobile.com
It's an easier way to flash as its only one file and less people can get the files mixed up. (It still has the kernal and modem inside it)
Edit: Just check and it seems to be missing dbdata.rfs Did you miss that out. If its not there then do another download and see if it is. If not then im sure it'll be fine..
