Any chance at getting a flashable dual boot package with both stock 1.1.0 and NF or HC?
I cannot get ADB to work with my NC (tried all the tips and tricks I could find) except adb wireless, but I want to go dual boot with a non-rooted stock, so kinda hard to d/l the wireless adb (and not sure if it would work anyway).

You must be rooted to use adb thats one of the things rooting unlocks. You could just leave it stock and use a bootable NF or HC sd card.

I rather like running of the internal. Did a dual boot with HC and unrooted stock last weekend and it was ok, but not ideal.
I know you have to be rooted to use ADB, I can't get ADB to work, so I figured I would ask if it's possible to dual boot with an unrooted stock image and either NF or HC off the eMMC. I don't mind if it had rooted stock if that is the only way to dual boot, just thought it would be pointless to root with hc or nf loaded up.
Ok, so let's say I use ADB Wireless on a stock rooted NC running 1.1.0. Can I create the necessary partitions to allow a dual boot of HC? If so, How? Is there an easier way to do this (Root explorer, terminal emulator, etc)?
I put NF on my SD card for the time being, but cannot mount the SD partition in windows either by directly pluggin in the card or via USB on the Nook, so it's kinda a pain to work with. i also don't want to lose the stock nook OS for mag subscriptions, reading kids books, etc.

We can install nookie froyo on an SD card and run without ever rooting the nook. What I'm wondering is whether I can access the nook's internal memory from that SD-card-booted froyo in order to install apps (also without ever rooting the device)
I want to keep my nook as close to untouched as possible, but I'd like to get some apps on there as well.
Thanks!
I don't believe this is possible. The stock ROM unrooted doesn't include much. Are you just trying to get access to your purchased books? They should carry over without issue
You can access the internal memory but I'm not sure that they'll show up once booted back into stock.

To clarify, I'm not trying to read from my NC's internal memory but rather write to it. What I'd like to do is boot up into nookie froyo from SD card (which I can do already) and then mount the internal memory, copy over an app and set its permissions to make it executable. Then I'd remove the SD card, boot into stock ROM and execute the program (Angry Birds comes to mind)
now I realize I'll prolly get the lynch mob soon after i post this... being that all the research is over in the dev section, but my question is fairly complicated and i cant seem to find a direct answer from my own reading.
now i have root on my NC and i would love to put a custom recovery/rom on my NC. could any one point me in the right direction to get me started loading a custom recovery? i dont want to run froyo off of an SD card i would love to have it just be a giant version of my phone(I'm sorry if that's asking to much)
i learned and pushed myself to do it a while back on my EVO 4g when i saw there was a rom with wimax capability's and that was my first time rooting anything. I do on the other hand work as a sprint instore service and repair tech. so all of this reading isnt completely lost on me.
and my second question. when i booted my nook back up after i let the battery die, all my setting and apps were gone. any one know anything about it?
thank you for any answer, and I'm very sorry about my spelling and grammar, i know it sucks >.<
i think my biggest confusion/hangup so far has been the custom recovery not sure if i have this right or not but. these are the steps (i think) i need to take.
1. aquire root. [check]
2.custom recovery.[?]
3.custom kernel.[?]
4. custom rom.[?]
So what you want to do is flash a custom rom? You would just download a CWM sd card image. Burn that image to your SD card. Then, grab the rom you want, such as nookie-froyo, or whatever. Copy that zip to the SD card.
Put the SD card into your nook, then reboot. It should boot into CWR and from there you can just flash the zip. The same thing with a custom kernel, just copy the zip onto your CWM sd card, reboot, and flash the zip.
I'm not sure if that is what you are asking, though.
I've actually figured it all out finally. is there any way to see what my CPU is running at?
The speed of your NC can be done by downloading 2 free apps in the market:
Linpack for Android
Quadrant Standard
The Linpack app will tell you how many MFLOPS (Millions of Floating Point Operations Per Second) and Quadrant will give you a score to benchmark for CPU, I/O, and graphics. They will also give you as a reference how you compare to other devices.

So I'm new to Nook. In fact it's still being shipped for the wife, lol. Little that she knows, it's getting nootered before it even gets in her hands.
I've rooted phones and flashed custom ROMs.
From what you're saying above, does CWM reside solely on the SD card? That's different than a mobile phone. So any time we need to install a custom ROM (even the first time), we'd have to boot using the SD Card that has CWM, right? Of course I'd have to root the nook first.
following should really go into a different thread:
So whats the best ROM? So many out there. I just want to be able to use all google apps and market (for kindle app).
Thanks in advance.

You can still install Clockwork from the market and it'll run of the NC without an SD card. I've done it. But for the installation of CM7 (something to do with EXT4? I don't even know what that means...) CWM on an SD was necessary.
On what the best ROM is. Well, looking in the general section subsection here it looks like a lot of people are on rooted stock 1.1. I tried Froyo and it was cool and all, but I missed having the full 8GB of storage on the nook. I haven't tried Honeycomb yet, so no idea on that one. I currently have CM7 nightly 8 on my NC and really like it. I may not have all the storage space still (they're working on it) but it's snappy and sleek.
I would have posted this question on the developer board, but I am too much of a noob. I am wary that my question will sound like jibberish, but I am really confused about dual booting and the special files that are necessary.
I am using rooted 1.1 stock and have got it customized about as far as I can go. I want to run CM7, but the one app that keeps me tied to the Eclaire OS is the original B&N reader app that allows downloading of magazines and newspapers. From what I gather, the standard Market Nook app does not allow magazines and newspapers to be downloaded. I saw that some on this board are trying to port the original stock reader to Froyo and CM7, but they are not there yet.
Because I want to keep 1.1 and still try out CM7, I am looking to either boot CM7 off an SD card or dual boot 1.1 and CM7 in eMMC. I have yet to see a solution for booting CM7 off SD, so I have turned my attention to dual booting.
There are threads and files on the development board that allow for dual booting, but I can't quite figure them out. If possible, I would like to have the current 1.1 placed in the "alternative" partition (Power+n) and CM7 in the main partition (Power). Here are my questions:
Can I dual boot my existing 1.1 and the latest version of CM7 (14)?
Can I do this without any specially modded ROMs?
Does running the partitioning program destroy the existing 1.1 setup?
There is also a "script" to move the current setup to the new partition. Does that mean that my exising 1.1 setup will be left intact after the partitioning and can be moved without any alteration?
If so, do I need a special version of CM7 or will it automatially flash to the proper partition?
Assuming this is all possible, how do I use adb with all of the partitions?
And lastly, is CWM still usable in this type of arrangement?
I am sorry for all of these questions and I hope they kind of make sense. Thanks very much in advance for any help.
All good questions. I can only answer number 3. the partitioning zip will not destroy the BN install. Just makes the free space on the emmc smaller. Well it does more then that, but that is what you'll notice when using the BN install. I successfully used it to dual boot with HC. There is a bug with CWM 3005 that you'll run into if you follow the HC dual boot instructions from addictivetips. Use CWM 3010 or look for the shell script you have to ADB onto the CWM to allow CWM 3005 work with the dual boot script.
I'd love the answers to the other questions as well.
This is the fastest and easiest way I found to Dual Boot. Works flawlessly.

So I finally took the plunge and picked up the Nook color, bought it second hand with HC already on the eMMC so I am not sure exactly how anything was done before. I have been reading the guides and while not completely lost, there's just some things I am unclear of right now.
I installed Rom Manager to install CWR, after installing and flashing it I cant access Recovery, but wasnt sure if it ever worked. Was this the wrong way to go about getting CWR on the unit? I am trying now to boot into a default CWR SD card and run a fix from this thread hoping thats the issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11591197
I dont really have a need for the Stock config so putting everything on eMMC for me sounds ideal and am currently trying to get the dual boot config from here running.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959461
Question now is if I get CWR running from the sd card, can i just apply the prep file and load the pre configured installations from that page? Does the dual boot both boot from eMMC? Will I need to format my existing solution to install that setup?
Thanks for any feedback.

HC, as far as I know, is the only rom that does not respond well to cwr installed internally (I have had those issues). If you get an sd image of cwr burned, you can add any flashable rom to that same card and flash it in recovery (install zip from sd card). If you want to play with CM7, do a backup of your HC rom from your sd card, do your formats and flash the gb rom. I think in theory, if you wanted cwr installed internally, you can load a cwr zip on your cwr card and flash it. I have not tried to dual boot anything, so can not offer any feedback.

So I ran the fix permissions and now I can boot into Recovery From Clockwork or boot from the SD card. There are a couple problems, in order to install the dual boot I need to run recovery from the eMMC but that doesnt seem to mount my SD card or I need to adb into the recovery so I can permission something to run, however doesnt seem to have adb running in Recovery and I dont see an option to restart it.
Alright so everything is working, had to format the SD card. Guess CWR SD sets it up as a boot partition so it wasnt mounting, dual booting froyo + HC, just have to figure out the OC kernels now for each.
I've already got my SD card ready to root my nook, and the files are ready to install hc v4 2nd...i can't wait this should hold me over until the 10"ers come down in price
I use the SD card method to have the nook boot into CM7 and when the SD card is pulled, the nook would be stock to be used by my kids. But I think I messed things up and can't restore. Here is what I have done:
1- I tried to update the stock version to 1.3 manually from B&N website but soon realized I could not. It seems like when in CM7, I had tried to flash CWM recovery (which was not needed and is pretty buggy in SD card method for nook). Now the recovery in emmc appears to be CWM.
2-for some stupid reason when I got into CMM recovery, I formatted boot, system, data and cache (not sure if I did boot also or not). My thinking was to flash a stock image and be fixed. But I am now stuck.
Is there a way to go back to stock on the nook? I am still able to boot into SD card and CM7 nightly. Oh ya, I use Linux Ubuntu not windows. TIA
Sounds like you should get the system back to stock before proceeding any further.
Follow the instruction here: http://www.nookdevs.com/NookColor_UnRooting
The problem is that I get into the CWM recovery and not given the reset option following the options on that page. Any idea?
I think my problem is that I'm not really rooted in true sense since I was running off the SD card. Maybe I shoudl root properly, then unroot?
I did kind of the same thing once. I made an Sd card image with CWM on another sd card -- basically as if you are going to install CM7 to emmc. However, once you get to the point where you would flash Cm7, use the stock zip ROM. It will install that to emmc so it will be back to normal. You should then be good to go.

If you follow the instructions you should be left with an unrooted initialized stock Nook Color. Register your account. Then you can wait for the NC to download the 1.3 update, or side load it. Once that is installed you have an unrooted 1.3 stock system.
From there you can try your CM7 card. Don't forget to remove your SD card at the very beginning since like a PC the NC will try to boot off the SD card if it is present.

when I follow the instruction, I am not given the factory reset option. I am stuck at the n screen. It flashed the read forever but then stuck at the n screen. Do I have to wait longer than 5 minutes?
None of this is mine, I owe it ALL to the threads mentioned below.
So as in many posts on XDA say, it's almost impossible to brick the Nook. What a great device. I had to format my SD card to use it to "un-brick" my nook but it was done. I Mainly used the info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949699
Burnt a bootable CWM image onto my SD card. It took a while doing it with dd in Linux. I'm sure it's the same in Windows or Mac. It took about 20-30 minutes. It also took a while to unzip/extract the img file from the downloaded file. Be patient
Then used the CWM recovery remover file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 to remove my CWM recovery and used the 1.0.1 file from same thread to flash the stock image onto the nook.
Once the SD card is ready, just drop those files in the root of the sd card. It should have 4 other files in it to boot into CWM recovery from the sd card and let you use the menus to flash those two zip files. It took a while but it's all in those threads. Thanks to the members. Now lets see if I can go up to 1.3 and then root it again.
you also need to do this
