[Q] ROM Manager on HTC Magic? - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

Hi guys.
I’m very sorry if this problem have been asked before in this forums, but I’ve searched, and cannot find a solution for my problem. So here goes.
I have a HTC Magic 32A (OS: Android 1.5 Cupcake + HTC Sense) and I’ve successfully rooted it with the SuperOneClick App following this guide from theunlockr website (how-to-root-your-android-phone-superoneclick-method). I assume I was successful because when I open busy box it says that my phone is rooted.
So my problem starts when I’m trying to follow the second guide on how to load a custom rom. (how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-android-phone-after-any-one-click-root-methods/)
They say I must download ROM Manager from the Market, but when I try, it says “installation error”. The current version is 3.xx and I’ve also tried the 1.8.4.1 version but then it says “ROM Manager could not be installed on this phone”
So my question is what can I do to get ROM Manager on my Magic?
Thanks for you time!

ROM Manager is probably recommended to you because it will allow you to overwrite your stock recovery with ClockworkMod recovery. So if it's not working, get the ClockworkMod zip from a forum, rename to update.zip and place in the root of your SD, reboot to recovery, choose (re)Install Packages and it should open the new recovery. Sometimes it takes 2 goes to get it working.
Then download a ROM, stick it on your SD and use ClockworkMod recovery to install. Read more forums first though, so you know what you're doing.
Sorry if it's different for 32A but that would definitely work for 32B.

[Q] Rooting with HBOOT 1.01

Hi,
I have the official (stock) WWW Froyo ROM in my Legend. It was OTA updated two days ago. I only noticed today that the rooted version is now available, and I would like to install it
Is there any way to downgrade the HBOOT?
I tried to downgrade RUU with the goldcard method, but when I try to flash with RUU version 1.31, it says "wrong bootloader version", or something like that.
I mean, I cannot root my phone because I can't downgrade to a rootable RUU, because of the new HBOOT.
Any suggestion?
I have similar problem, I was updating the hboot, now I ended up with f*** official froyo rom, and no root access. Can't even install visionary r14 from modaco, for acheving temp root

If it allows you to go in to recovery mode and then "flash zip", it may work.
Anyway, I don't believe temproot allows you to access the option to flash a zip.
If you are successful, let us know

I read on the official VISIONary thread at MoDaCo that someone is telling Paul that he can only temp-root with r14, but can't perm-root with it anymore.
For now no way to downgrade HBOOT 1.01 to HBOOT 1.00 or 0.43 .....
We wait for a solution ....
You should follow the instrucions from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845512
It is the same as rooting devices with HBOOT 1.00. And yes you will need to install visionary r13 or r14 from modaco and temproot your phone. I worked for me! I have new HBOOT 1.01 and CM 6.1 rom now. I've spend all afternone playing with my phone, to get it right.
EDIT: when you are doing the last step, you just have to choose some rooted stock rom that you prefer.

Well, it does not work for me
At this stage: "Phone will reboot and find LEGEIMG.zip on your sdcard, copy it into RAM and check it." my device just reboots to the HBOOT menu, without any error, no copy and check happens. It just stays there forever waiting for me to choose an option: Fastboot; Recovery; Clear Storage; Simlock.
I think that the suggested tutorial does not contemplate HBOOT 1.01. Are you sure it wasn't your new rooted froyo image that installed you 1.01 HBOOT?
Just to add one more thing.
I am able to gain root access with the temproot trick, but when I ask clockworkmod to reboot in to recovery mode, it just takes me to a big red question mark. After a while it reboots and everything is normal again.
That's perfectly normal...

And, do you think there is a solution?
Yes, qzem already presented you one. But you have another problem... bootloader can't see/find LEGEIMG.zip located on your sdcard. There were guys with exactly the same problem and some managed to solve it so it is documented right here on XDA forums.

Blow me down!! It worked!
I had to repartition, reformat and recreate the memory card as goldcard.
Now I have Stock Rooted Froyo
My path was: stock OTA 2.2 -> 2.1 -> rooted stock 2.2
Thanks
Nice to hear that you solved the problem.

Can someone explain where I am going wrong all I get is image not found or wrong image? I have tried 3 different roms and always get the same thing on the final step in HBOOT

Maybe you should do as I did:
-Delete all the partitions on the SD card;
-Create ONE FAT32 partition;
-Format it;
-Create Goldcard;
-Copy LEGEIMG.zip to the SD card;
Finally, try again.

Cheers will give it a try now. Any idea why you have to do this if you already have a working goldcard?
That all worked fine and I am now on 2.1 I installed rom manager 2.5.1.2 but when I try to install clockworkmod it does nothing anyone got any ideas?
maybe I should also mention that i dont have superuser.apk but i do have root check in terminal and su is working.
Now that you have 2.1, you need to root your device.
Just follow this tutorial: http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-legend/
On step 9, use the rooted rom of your preference.\
That is how I did it.

Instal superuser from Market. Then open Rom Manager, FlashClockworkMod Recovery, then choose Install Rom from SD Card. Before that you should copy some custom rom(all custom roms are rooted usually) you want on the sd card.

[Q] How to upgrade rooted phone?

I just rooted my g1,and I have the goal of running Froyo (cyanogen 6) on it...
There are plenty of tutorials online about how to do it, but they all talk about other programs and apps, or random radio versions you have to have...I'm just confused I guess
I'm wondering...
What files do I update or what sort of process do I go through to eventually end up on froyo
my phones freshly rooted using dreaimg.nbh method, running stock g1 android 1.0, baseband 2.22
any help would be great
Welcome to the rooted G1 community! First off, I would recommend downloading the ROM manager from the Android market. I find it much easier to flash stuff using it. But you'll need to partition your SD card, which the ROM manager has a convienient button for. As for getting to Android 2.2, try Cyanogen 6.0.1. But you'll need to get the newest radio and all that schnaz too
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
okay, so I go to upgrade my radio from 2.22.19 to 2.22.27
I download the .zip file, which contains .img files for radio upgrade and "hboot" 1.33.0013d (whatever that is?)
I have to rename the .zip "update.zip" because I put the phone into recovery and hit "alt+s" to "apply sdcard:update.zip" which is as far as i know, the only way to do it (if theres an easier way, PLEASE let me in on it )
anyways, it does its thing,
"installing from sdcard...
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E :No signature (2 files)
E :Verification failed
Installation aborted.
And I also searched the Market for ROM manager, there was nothing...which im assuming is because im still on android 1.0
any help??

Ok, here are some details....
Very first thread in Q&A is for setting adb and fastboot...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
SDK will on your computer and you need to connect the phone with USB....but you need fastboot compatible SPL to use fastboot...
On the short note it is as easy as downloading SDK and installing USB driver...for fastboot you need one extra file to be downloaded....links are in the thread....
Flashing radio and SPL can brick the phone so it is advisable to do it through fastboot...
Also you may want to update your recovery to some of the advanced ones, see my signature for that....
thanks a ton G1sanju, the guide helped a ton, but now im stuck again
I get to the point where the guide says to go into recovery and install the update.zip for cyanogenmod 3.6...
The problem there is that the link is broken and i cant find 3.6 anywhere, so i grabbed a .zip of 5.0.8 and followed the guide...
when i hit alt+s to install it, it gets about half loaded then abourts saying E:cant find update script...
I did some digging on google but all i got was some people who didnt sign their zip...
correct me if i'm wrong (please) but I assumed I didnt have to go through signing because I literally just downloaded the .zip, renamed to update, then threw it on the sd card, but if thats the case then what now?
Try some other rom like sparkmod, super e or super f
Keep on try new roms ton of them r avalible on xda.
And I don't think old roms like cyon 3 will work on new radio and spl so try cyon 5 or 6
And Good luck

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
then I did this
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-flash-a-new-recovery-image-if-you-are-already-rooted/
using this:
http://dev-host.org/uxpmh3p0c2z6/recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0-cyan.img

it's a lot to absorb at once and theres a lot of room for error... I'm still having issues as we speak
you found all the guides except for mine lol... which is basically all of that on one place...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098899
Hey i was reading up about rooting for 2 weeks before i plunged in and took the step. Let's say on your first try, don't do anything that needs you to change radio etc.
Just use the superoneclick method to root it, then download rom manager (free from android market) and install clockworkmod recovery. This should be easy, as from rom manager all you need to do is click flash clockworkmod recovery, and it will do it for you.
Next find the rom you want, and download 3 files. One is the rom itself, the other is a kernel (example ezterry's) and finally gapps and put them on your sd card. Next reboot into recovery.
First you'll want to create a backup, go to backup and restore click backup, and let it do it's thing. Once it says backup complete, you'll need to wipe cache, and wipe date/factory reset.
Once you've done that, do install zip from sd card, and install the files in this order:
ROM first: (find where you put the zip file on your sd, and select it)
Then do install zip from sd card again & select the Kernel (if you need to flash a seperate kernel)
Then finally do install zip from sd card again and select the gapps, zip (this is basically the android market, and a few other google apps).
Next press reboot into recovery, and it should load into your new rom, if all has been done correctly. I just recently rooted and put a custom rom on my phone, and this is the way i did it, so it should work for you. Make sure you research rooting and flashing roms onto your phone, before you take the plunge though.

[Q] rommanager /universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5

Hi guys! so i have a htc t-mobile g1 firmware version 1.6 build number dmd
64. I have installed rom manager and universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5. I rooted phone and flashed clockwork mod recovery. I would like to install a rom.
where do i go from here? Do I have to still downgrade the sofware or can I go right from 1.6 dmd 64 to a rom. the option download a rom does not work,I get message the requested item cannot be found. what are my options? can someone please help me! i am total noob and this is my only phone for now don't wanna screw it up. sorry for long post just trying to be accurate.....thanks.
is the recovery installed?
you went the fast way but it still usually works
power on the phone holding the home button
if your in clockwork recovery then your ok, just flash a rom
the newest roms require more work from you to get them though
see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
yes, it does go into clockwork recovery. i had flashed clockworkmod recovery and backed up current rom in rom manager. i was worried i had to downgrade to rc29 or something like that. do i still have to install radio and danger sp? thank for the help and replying
Most roms you want will require you to
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
so no downgrade? ill install radio and danger spl and try cyanogen6 android 2.2. ill follow the cyanogenmod wiki and try it. well see how it goes......
I wouldn't recomend cm6 with only the danger spl, you be very slow if it boots at all. Try cm5. If you want more you'll need to follow the 2708+ update to get the extra ram hack for roms past 2.1
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I will try cm5 then thanks....I'll post any issues i have..
i was just on cyanogenmod wiki trying to install cm5 and it says clockworkmod is not recomended or safe.it says to please upgrade to aman ra. so confused now
Its only not recommended because amonra is better for the dream, clockwork will work just fine. Also know that cyanogen helped write the code that amonra is based off of. All that said I use amonra and not the biggest fan of clockwork
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
first of i like to say thank you for taking the time to help.this is what i downloaded so far, radio 2.22.23.02,danger spl,cm5. there is also something called mirror. what is it? and should i download that as well.after downloading this stuff it needs to be put on root of sd card then i should flash each one?
correct, here is the process
have all downloads on root of sd card
root (you did this)
install custom recovery (you id this)
flash radio via recovery (you can test and make sure by powering on w/camera)
flash spl via recovery (same test as radio)
flash rom via recovery
now you are ready to play with cm5!
the mirror is just in case the download link isnt working for you, same file
thank you so much! you are the man really appreciate it bro..worked perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Q] Putting Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) on HTC Hero CDMA WITHOUT ROM MANAGER

Since Rom Manager is no longer in the market, what do I do? I'm still in 2.1 and rooted using the 1 click Root method, which I can't link for some reason. I want to have Gingerbread and Cyanogen Mod. How can I achieve this? (please talk to me like I'm a caveman or something. As I'm an epic computer guy, I have no knowledge of Android phones.)
EDIT: I used this to root my phone youtube.com/watch?v=-tAt9PMykz8
Just download the rom of your choice, place on the root of your SD card, boot into recovery, wipe everything (Make sure you did a back up first!!!!), then flash the rom (.zip file) then reboot your phone.
I have never used one click root. Does it even install a custom recovery?
