[Q] Am I screwed? Odin one click gone bad - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short I was going back to stock after some troubles with a rom and kernel but after a couple minutes of being connected to odin (and working) I bumped my phone and it dropped. When I picked it up I noticed it was stuck on a blue or purpleish screen so I took the battery out and tried to boot into download mode (or any mode) without any luck. At one point I did see a few lines written in red dealing something with rfs but now I get nothing. No power up to anything now. Any ideas on what I may do to get back into download mode and redo odin? Please any suggestions would be helpful... Am I screwed?
Thanks

Remove the battery for a minute or so and try download mode again by inserting the USB cable with no battery then hold the buttons while inserting the battery. If that fails try a jig.

If you can't get with the steps above try to use the AIO Toolbox to get to download mode. I made a video for it HERE.
If none of that works, try to make a JIG watching this VIDEO.
Although I recommend just buying a nice conventional one from my website for just some spare change. You can buy one for $10.00 right now HERE.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will try this out when I get home from work today. It is just good to hear that I should be able to get out of this jam and get my phone back.

Ya I Have has the problem with odin giving be random colors.just keep trying to flash with odin and it should work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

build a jig yourself or buy it online, ebay has some decent deals, $7.99 ...

So after getting home and following first steps above (battery out hold buttons etc..) it powered up to the screen I kind of mentioned earlier today. It's in red writing and it is as follows
"RST_STAT = 0x1
PMIC_IRQ1 = 0x3c
PMIC_IRQ2 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ3 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ4 = 0x0
PMIC_STATUS1 = 0xc0
PMIC_STATUS2 = 0x2c
*"
So this is what I get and I am now going to try the AIO Toolbox. If anyone else has any suggestions please feel free to let me know.
Thanks

UPDATE!!
It took like 30 or more times but somehow after not coming up into download mode (only with the red writing from above post) it finally did. My phone is back now. Thanks to all who offered suggestions and I have no idea how it finally went into download mode but it did and thats all that matters at this point I guess. Now comes the fun part of making this phone actually work like it is supposed to.

Lol dude, don't worry. I would make a Jig or buy one though(Despite you already fixing it), because after I bricked and fixed my phone, I bricked it another 10 times at least. Makes life a lot easier.

[Q] return rooted/bricked captivate?

I've recently soft bricked my phone from an odin3 fail and have attempted every download mode button combo I could find after searching the forum for a couple days now...
The thing is I tried to run odin and upon rebooting the phone it wouldn't load anything past the 'world phone' screen or the battery screen when plugged in.
Tried everything: button combos for download mode, made a 300k jig (thinking about making a 301k jig), and more endless button combos to force a download mode.
I've just about given up and wish to exchange my phone for another one from wal-mart.
I've only had the phone for two weeks and am still within the 30-day return date.
**********************************************************
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT:
Will they accept my phone for an exchange even tho it's been rooted and the warranty has been 'voided'?
**********************************************************
Also I've attemped to unlock the phone (but didn't) cuz i couldn't get a hold of another carrier's sim card but i downloaded the app and got the unlock code for my phone which i'm still sure voided the warrenty anyway.
just another reason i think it would hinder my exchanging the phone w/o being charged $300 for a brand new captivate
You'll probably get a replacement phone right away since AT&T DSCs don't check for root when they issue a replacement. However, phones do get sent back to Samsung and I've read stores about people getting charged on their AT&T bill months later because their phone's warranty was voided due to root/ROM flashing.
I honestly think there's something wrong with your JIG. If you are seeing the World Phone screen, that's always been sign for me that a JIG could get a phone into DL mode. If you're using the instructions from that .99 cent JIG thread, I wouldn't be surprised if you aren't hitting pins 4&5 for the required length of time, or putting ~300kohm of resistance between the pins. At the very least, I'd recommend you get a MicroUSB plug head to chop up, and attach your resistors to.
if you have a 1008 model you can NOT boot into download mode with buttons! This same thing happened to me when i failed an odin flash and had to return the phone.
They said they never saw the error and gave me a new phone immediately.
1007 model can not be bricked since you can always boot into download mode.

This is something to watch for. If u r returning a phone after messing it up, atleast wipe any info that could inform u r messing. AT&T is courteous enough to give a replacement, but replacements do go to the phone company. And they may not be in a mood to honor 'warranty voided' phones.

I figured that would be the case.
Well i guess that means i'll be spending the next couple days(hopefully not) trying to jig my phone. shaky hands and poor pin visibility aren't usually a plus
Question about jigging
Do i need to take my battery out and put it back in every time i reattempt to jig my phone?

Or, you could go get a MicroUSB plug
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841512
You also don't need to remove battery every time you try to use the JIG. The phone just needs to be off.

Your phone's batch # is on a sticker UNDER the battery. You're looking for 4 digits, like 1006, 1007, 1008, 1010, 1012, etc.
*Update*
Well after hours of attempting to jig my captivate myself i'm calling it quits and ordering a usbMicro breakout board. I got the idea from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841512&page=2
hopefully once this gets in i'll have better luck.

I found a way to actually brick the cappy

Im retarted wasnt paying attn, too sleepy.
I flashed the stock pit and tar from an epic onto the cappy and now it wont even turn on. Wont respond to anything.
Cant get it in to download. No life at all,Shes dead captain, kinda thing.
So it started out i was going to flash back to something other than trident/cm7.
Im bought the car dock and was going to use the kernal so the dock would actually work.
Well it was like any other flash ive done countless times.. Till odin preformed an illegal operation and then it dawned on me what i did.. It was still in download but the computer didn't recognize it any longer. So power off and try to go back to dl mode.. the phone wont respond at all. The power button does nothing.. Plugging it in does nothing..
Im pretty sure its dead, thoughts? other than the flamming for being a newb.

Well with the jig it still has to be able to turn on.. I cant get it to even do that
So i dunno.. Thats why im drawing a blank. I would think it would at the very lest be able to get in to dl mode but nothing lol
So you had the 3 button combo working before?
Have you
1 Open Odin one click or the full version to flash what you want
2 plug in the cable to your computer
3 Hold the vol up/down buttons
4 Plug in micro usb to phone?
If that doesn't work try the same process but do this.
1 Open Odin one click or the full version to flash what you want
2 Remove battery from phone
3 Plug phone to computer and hold vol up/down
4 Push battery in
Try those methods if you haven't already. If they don't work a jig might be your best option to get the phone to DL mode.
And a jig seems to work when you really think it wouldn't but try either of these methods first. I was stuck last week when my phone would not power or anything and the second method worked for me.

Off topic, you had a 1010 build, got a replace that is 1008 and you think it's new.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
It sounds dead sir. No idea what ODIN did, but if it's not responding to the power, charger, usb, combo-tricks, etc. It sounds like it's been perma-bricked
If it's still under warranty, it's certainly worth trying to get it replaced... "What the hell is wrong with this phone? It won't turn on anymore?!"

So I made a jig and still dead as anything. Weird, oh well anyone think of anything else? Prob going to see about trying to get art to replace it. Or pay the insurance
Your battery isn't dead is it?
Ha nope at last recall it was around 80% before it happened. And I also tried a fully charged battery from an epic

I find it hard to believe since a bad flash killed my battery from 96%. But I'm not there so I can't say otherwise. The homemade jig thing from radioshack did not work for me though. I had to use one that was made by one of the members here. I had it plugged in, popped in the battery, and it fired up. Try a couple different combos and see if you get lucky. If I remember correctly it was like 3 tries for me
Yep, verified she's dead..
I hacked a usb cord, and teseted it on an Epic. worked great for the epic..
but the same method on the cappy and she's still dead no life..
/sad panda
how did you make the jig? i bricked mine not to long ago... i didnt use the 301k resistor that you hear about in other threads... i went to radio shack bought a pack of 100k resistors and a pack of 1k .... i soldered three of the 100k and one of the 1k, end to end... then soldered it to the 4 and 5 pin on the stripped charger plug.... this will work... the firmware/kernal/rom changes you have made shouldnt affect the phones ability to get into download mode....

you dont know what your doing then... if the jig you use from the members worked then you deffinately didnt make urs right.... search these threads there are pictures of what pins to use... you actually dont even have to solder them... just stick the stripped down plug in and touch the ends of the jig to the correct pins... however... do not touch the the actual wires of the jig as it will change the resistance, if that happens it will appear that the jig doesnt work... this is SIMPLE! and if you cant get it to work then youre not following directions, also as he said above.. it doesnt matter that you had 80% before... make sure your battery is charged and try your jig again... that is if you even made one to begin with...

Cut the guy some slack. Unless you know him or work with him, how do you know he hasn't?
Anyway. Look, I had a similar issue with odin. I didn't run it as admin on win7 and it froze about half way. I unplugged and popped the battery, next thing, it wouldn't start. Since I knew my phone wouldn't work with the 3 button, stock, I tried something else. I let the phone sit for about 5 minutes, came back, put in battery, held the volume buttons as I inserted the usb. Snapped right into download mode.
Not everything works for the same device. It could be that your jig has something wrong with it. Just a thought.
But a hint for the community, unless you know the person you are speaking to personally, don't assume he's lazy and hasn't made his jig.

[Q] Download mode: three buttons vs. JIG. Which is better (more reliable)?

Hi there!
I got me my third Galaxy and this time the three buttons combo doesn't work, so no download or recovery mode from me.
I plan always to stick to Kies updates from now on, but if I ever need to install a cooked ROM for some reason, or even do some special tweaking, I may need to have these modes enabled.
As much as I wanted to at first, I've refrained to apply the bootloader fixes since there's a small chance that they might not work and brick (again) the phone, and I can really cope with this problem all over again
So... what I did was to order one USB JIG from eBay 10 minutes ago. Now I'm wondering... which metod is "better"? The buttons combo or the JIG? If it's so easy to boot into download mode with the JIG (and I'd even think that more reliable since it's a hardware jumper rather than software), why would so many risk into flashing the bootloader when they could have got a nice, little USB cased JIG for 7 USD?
Also... when fully bricked (i.e., black screen) and the buttons combo doesn't work, would the hardware JIG work?
By the way, another reason to not flash the bootloader fix for me is that it would change my GT-I9000T startup screen for the international, GT-I9000 one , and I wanted it to be as stock as possible.
Thanks in advance guys; hope that you can shed some light into it.
EDIT: oh... is it true (confirmed) that phones with the combo disabled by Samsung boot a little faster than the others? I've read that since the combo is disabled, the bootloader doesn't wait for it, so it breezes through the startup process , but haven't seen this confirmed anywhere
Anyone??
mmm... I would like to know this as well.

Yeah, yours is the only post I've found about this in Google before starting my own.
I started this again because all the responses you got was "Good job!" from a guy
Hope we can more information this time...
So... ??? Please, somebody comment on this if possible; thanks guys
Hi!
Phones with the combo available are not any slower than their fellows without it. Mine came without the 3button-combo and flashed the fix to be able to get into recovery. I didn't see any difference.
But if you want to stay on the safe side.. the jig will do the job. Btw i just used the 301k ohm resistor with some clear tape and touched the right pins inside the microUSB socket. Tadaaa... cost me £0.48 How-to on youtube.
The jig doesn't work if your phone has a black screen. That means the bootloader is corrupted, no chance to flash it.
However if it's semi-bricked (you see a PC..!..Phone figure on the screen but no response nor boot) the jig (and only that!) can still help. Basically that's why i have it now
Thanks! I just received the JIGs I bought from eBay (after more than a month...!) and I'm happy with them.
I don't know why I'd risk flashing the 3 button fix when a simple jig is a "pure" and elegant solution, that doesn't mess around with my phone (and its boot screen! )
Thanks, and if you have any more thoughts on the matter, please let me know.
I have usb jig fantastic thing plug it in switch on phone download or plug in while on and hold power button till reset again download i will not three button again

I updated my bootloaders months ago so I could use the 3 buttons and haven't looked back since. I only had a vague idea of what I was doing (much lees that I do know) read all the guides and flashed and I'm glad I did it, now I can enter download and/or recovery on cue whenever I wish..

[Q] SGS I9000 computer crashed while updating flashing

My computer crashed while trying to flash an SGS I9000 through Odin. The phone will not boot at all - the screen just stays off. I've tried pulling the battery for extended periods but it makes no difference. I can't get into recovery mode or download mode. The screen seems permanently off.
When I put the battery in and plug the phone into the computer it tries (and fails) to install a driver for a "SEC S59C110 Test B/D".
I've tried the 301K resistor jig but it did not seem to do anything.
Any ideas on what I can do? The phone is long out of warranty, so if the phone is permanently dead then I'll just have to buy a new one (though I'm hoping for a fix, if possible!)

It's very strange that the jig fails on these situation.
Maybe that the jig is not correctly built....
Why don't you try with another usb dongle?
I hope that you solve your problem.
I can't believe it - I'm absolutely astounded. UnBrickable and Heimdall worked and they brought the phone back to life! Thank you guys so much!
you did the hardware mod for unbrickable?
No, I dismantled the phone and when I saw how tiny the resistors were I shat my pants.
I tried it without doing the hardware mods first, and I was going to mod it only if it failed (which, fortunately, it didn't!)
you lucky one then if the bootloader would be f.... up you would have to techmod
but anyways gg ;]

[Q] Phone Completely Unresponsive

So, I tried to update my Captivate to Gingerbread via Kies to prep it for CM10, and it hung on the 'Firmware Upgrade' Eventually, I pulled the plug and tried the 'Emergency Recovery' That ended up hanging too. And now my phone is completely unresponsive.
I don't see the Computer-- >Phone icon, I can't boot into download mode, nothing, just a black screen.
I tried pulling the battery, sim card, etc. and nothing. Plugging it into the wall also has zero noticeable effect. Am I SOL or is there some hope of resurrecting this beast?

As long as your phone is charged, a jig might work. You don't need to be getting response from your phone for it to work.
JTAG is last resort but if ever needed, mobiletechvideos .com offers it.
