I am done with Nokia - Off-topic

On the announcement that Nokia's CEO is dumping everything for Windows Phone just tore another open source hole in my heart. I owned a Nokia N900 for some time and it was the best device for just about anything, no less a feast of info for Nokia to feed off of for future phone releases and designs. However, as the MicroMonolopy tentacles do, Nokia dumps intelligence for mediocre and more of the closed-brained devices will now pierce us everywhere.
I was one of those that read every Meego update I could and googled every week to see when a Nokia smartphone was released with the anticipation of the kid at Christmas. I have had Win, Android, Symbian and straight Linux phones and nothing compared to the usefulness overall of the N900. The N900 was the first device that got me thinking I didn't need my tablet PC anymore, as I could just do everything right there on that little screen. I was even thinking of a test drive on the E7 just released, despite the Symbian system it had echoes of being an N9 without Meego. Then, the dunderheads removed all the disk space and SDHC and removed my cool FM radio as well. And, to add frustration, the Win7 phone announcement.
I don't know anyone elses opinion here, but I am not completely done with Nokia. They have taken an exciting future and fed it to the Microbully monster, and smartphones will now be less SMART and more about marketing again. So much my phone evolving this year........maybe in 5 or 10 thanks to the MS thottle slowing another company.

I was done with Nokia when I saw the direction things were going while working as an engineer on devices like the N900. Needless to say, I haven't been at Nokia for a while now.
Now I'm here to hopefully get some info on my future phone which replaces my N900.

N900 is a decent phone, could of been a monster.
Seems this move screwed Symbian developers: http://mobilitydigest.com/nokia-devs-not-thrilled-about-microsoft-deal/

One door closes and another opens. You may find yourself jumping on board the Android/WP7 train and wondering to yourself how you ever lived without it!
Saying that, my landlady got a nice new HTC Desire a little while ago but i still only ever see her with a Nokia 5800 in her hand

he just mad he possibly gettin fired cuz he only knows sybian

Seems that maybe Symbian won't die just yet and maybe Nokia may lose a number of developers if this is true.

Well if they get meego onto headsets it might have had a chance, but they were further behind the curve then MS. we'll see how the next 12-24 months go.
Sent from my HTC HD7 using Board Express

I was bit of a Nokia fan i only had their handsets ever since the 8210, they always did a good job whilst other messed up.
It would seem Nokia got left behind with the times as soon as iphone hit the market. They got complacent being no.1 for ages and failed to see the competition coming. It does not help when you release a new phone every month on different OS's. How can you possible support all these phones. The final nail in the Nokia coffin for me was the n97 i read all the reviews which were good prior to launch but boy were they wrong worst phone ever.
Been with HTC since and i have never looked back, sad what's happened to Nokia. RIP Nokia

Yeah, such a pity about Symbian. Although I quite enjoy using Android, I was also looking forward to the rumoured Nokia E6 (Blackberry-form with the lastest Symbian^3) to keep as a work phone.
With the writing on the wall, I do wonder who is going to pick up these last Symbian phones, because I think they announced in the last conference call that they were expecting to shift at least 150 million Symbian handsets in the next few years. Not to me, they won't.

apparently nokia and intel had some sort of partnership, but nokia left intel in the dust when it went to WP7

Completely bonkers idea re: webOS

As anyone who follows the mobile industry knows, Palm is in a world of hurt.
One can point out many things that were flawed in their strategy, I personally thought the delay in releasing their PDK and their initial partner choices were some of the biggest missteps, not to mention their bizarre marketing campaign.
Now I'm being very US-centric here, but even their recent release on VZW and pending release on ATT won't make a whole lot of difference, because the Pre/Pixi hardware is now old hat and it'll act as "just another phone."
Despite all of that, I think webOS is a cleverly designed OS that might just be ahead of its time or outside of the capabilities of Palm to properly nurture.
In any case, as an ecstatic HD2 owner, I'm happy to see the form factor propagate in the form of the Evo. I was speaking with a friend of mine who has a Pre on Sprint and he acknowledged that the Evo was very cool, but wished it had webOS.
It stewed in the back of my mind for a while, but it vaguely came together just a few moments ago.
The problem with Palm right now is their hardware. The original Pre had horrid battery life, and sorely lacked RAM. The Plus editions added the RAM and continued with the poor battery life.
What's the next step? It'll be expensive as always to design, test, and roll out a new piece of kit. So why not continue in the Palm-as-of-late fashion and step on some toes.
If anyone remembers, when they first launched the Pre, it synced with iTunes because it looked like an iPod or an iPhone - I don't remember. And despite constant attempts by Apple to block it, Palm just kept coming back with an update.
So what of the possibility that Palm partially becoming a software house. I'm not advocating they ditch hardware design, but considering the porting of webOS to select hardware for a nominal fee ($100?) This would be similar to going out and buying Windows 7 to upgrade your XP or Vista machine.
Yes, it would require things like HSPL in the case of WinPhones or rooting in the case of Android phones, but that's why it would only be available on select hardware. Go to the Palm store and buy the webOS release for the HD2, and just pop it on. It would supply an additional revenue stream, probably cheaper than designing new hardware, and promote further webOS usage.
Potential problems include warranty voiding etc, but there's nothing stopping an image being made before flashing a new ROM.
Is this just the late-hour talking or what?
Personally outside of the multitasking my pre really hasn't impressed me. I think that they miscalculated on that fact that people would want to run multiple apps from their phone. However most phone users are very single minded when it comes to doing things on the phone. So why the concept was a good one, it fell short on the consumer side. That is what is really killing Palm. They did little bring the "cool factor" which in today's market and what Palm wanted to do (sell lots of phones) was a bad miscalculation. So I'm not sure they would be able to sell the OS to phone users, since well most phone users wouldn't care to move over.
Just my two cents.
Palm Hardware Old?
I find it funny that people call Palm's hardware old. Sure it may not have the Snapdragon like my HD2... but it's TI OMAP processor running around 600 Mhz is capable of running Adobe Flash. Hmmm... Sounds like ARM is the outdated hardware...
Now for the design the Pixi blows... A SureType keyboard would be redeeming on that device.
The Pre... Bigger screen would be nice and a slighly wider keyboard.
But yes... Amazing idea... I would love to see something like this come to fruition...
I believe that VMWare could be oursolution to this though. They're working on a product that will allow for dual boot OS on a phone device... WM Pro and WebOS would be my choices... unfortunately the lack of keyboard support on the HD2 would be an issue with WebOS. Most WebOS virtual keyboards are copy and paste after typing applications.
If a driver could be written for the PS3 bluetooth mini keyboard that would be great for both WM and WebOS.

Do you regret buying your phone?

I bought mine on May last year, and boy was it a mistake. I can't believe I bought ANOTHER Windows Mobile phone, while it is a dying OS...
Too bad I didn't wait for the HTC Desire...
So yeah, Microsoft screwed me with their crappy OS.
Don't regret
I didn't regret the choice I had made. I will love Touch Diamond2 forever.
我作了这个选择并不后悔。我会永远爱我的钻石2代。
yup, i regret it. BUT I can't cry over spilled milk. i make the best of what i have and with enough tweaking and playing around with it, even a Topaz can be...half decent. my ONLY complaint? it's slightly slow. faster than stock roms...but slow in comparison to the nexus one or the desire. oh well, ill enjoy it for another year maybe and then try and get an Android device (Droid 3 then?)
cheers.
Sometimes I regret getting the TD2 especially when entering Text Messages which is unbareable slow and the occassional unresponses to Powering-on.
BTW sent an e-mail last week to HTC about said problems and they came back with "Try a hard reset" - Not at all impressed by HTC.
how do you end up questioning yourself something like that?
do not want to be involved into an endless discussion but I could not help myself not to reply with my thoughts: why is willing anybody to throu on a forum ideas like a dying OS and comparing 2 completely different devices? if you look ofr a shoulder to cry, go out and play with the friends! if you look for some oppinions do not by the judge! to not throuw sentances in vain!
by the moment you plan to change your device the "desire" will be a brik, so your choice made one year ago can prove to be perfect!
for not being misunderstood, I am not in favor or against topaz but this thrad is not bringing anything good to the forum, but only in time, make the search or other maintenance of the forum working slow. posts as love my device also do not help! maybe a betetr idea, si to open a new thread named: why will you choose topaz and why not, and there place pertinent reasons for complaints!
personally, I will never buy a device significantly bigger than topaz! I had diamnond 1 and now, because of useless hardware buttons on that model and because of bigger resolution and available memory I moved to topaz (pure). I will always prefer the dying OS as you named instead of banging my had on the wall finding a reliable navi for Android (of course, depend on the date of posing and the maps you need). the rest, like slow response, I can live with it! I mostly use the device for remote desktop and few calls and messaging. browsing for market information or just info is aslo a must and working pretty well!
hope I have made my point clear!
cheers!
I only regret not buying the touch pro2, and besides the lack of keyboard, I'm pretty happy with it.
No regrets here. It will hold me over for some time until the next "latest and greatest" device is released. It does everything I need it to do.
Granted, if I was stuck on the stock ROM, I probbaly would be sorely disappointed.
I really like the device. It's sad, that Microsoft doesn't fill up the marketplace. They seem to wait for their 7. My girlfriend just bought a Desire and I think I will stay with HTC but change to Android. She already has a lot of apps I miss on my phone.
I will use the diamond another 12 month from now, so Microsoft has a chance to convince me of Windows Phone 7. Else Android is my alternative.
at firts i regreted i had bought a TD2 not waited 3months and bought a HD2, but then i just didn't care.
now i regret i bought 2x4gb microSD cards 1 for my htc 1 for my (nokia)n81, because now i fixed audio problems and i hate carrying 2 phones around all the time(1 for music,1 for gps and web surfing and a few cool apps).
so i'm guesing tomorrow i'll regret i tried to make a sorta RC/3.5mm connector out of my htc headset
the lousy build is definitely a neg point for me
i have sweaty palms and the paintwork is all ruined
still prefer the old original diamond
managed to keep it in pristine condition despite being a yr old
wm platform is really slow though; getting online etc...
got a iphone for web surfing and email purposes instead
the only reason i'm retaining a wmm phone is for the intelligent call function(that is extremely important due to work and call volume) not available on other mobile platforms; correct me if i'm wrong...
I got an HTC Pure as a "complimentary" upgrade from AT&T, after my Incite got bit by the Netfront "trialware" fiasco. I am quite pleased with the Pure. It's screen is fantastic. I had to laugh when my buddy handed my phone to his wife to play with and then said, "she had a bad experience with her first touch screen phone. It had one of 'those' resistive screens." I think the only thing I don't like is the lack of a standard (3.5) headphone jack. It's also hard because a lot of new software is being targeted for the HD2 with it's faster processor. The larger screen would also be nice, but it's not any better resolution, and it would be (slightly) less pocketable. So, all in all I'm pleased with my device, and am very leary of WM7.
I like my PURE, and (fingers crossed) have not had to Hard Reset since I got it. WimMo6.5 has been stable, device has been basically flawless. I replaced two Tilts with this device. I am back on "shipped" ROM, just work around bloatware and load everything on my microSD card. I was concerned about not having the slideout key board, but am doing just fine without it.
I dont like lack of 3,5mm jack, flash, poooooor battery life, sluggish operation, WinMo abnormalities, direct sunlight readability... (nice form factor, resolution, gps performance, good camera...but in my case barely usable device)
Regarding move to E52/E72
Of course you regret it. In a year the technoligy is better and the new devices are better to. But for me it was the best device on that moment.
Overhere in Holland you just don't buy a phone. You sign a contract for a year or two and usually you'll get the phone for free. Now these day you have to pay up to €100 cause the devices are getting more expensive like a iPhone.
So waiting is not a option or you will lose your phone number. Or worse you forget to stop your contract in time, the phone company will extend your contract for another year or two.
Plus
Good service from HTC, they respond in your own language and really trying to help you. Just say you've done a couple of hard resets, they will sort it out for you. They've also kicked Vodafone Holland for me so that I can update my weather at location again.
Stock ROM's are working well
Nice design of the device
XDA-forum that brings me a lot of new futures. Just think about S2U2, CHT, TD2 tools. And I'm not even talking about flashing to costum ROM's
Multi tasking but that's also the minus. Everything is running on the back. Use CleanRAM
A 5mp camera
Min
Sluggish
Low battery life
WM is not that stable
My usb cable is crap, I can see the wires sticking out after 6 months of usage.
I hate my TD2 soooo much... Bought it on a 24 month contract in June last year, and within a month I was sick of the slowness and the plasticky design.
A few months later the camera stopped working completely and so HTC had to replace pretty much everything (as stated on the slip they provided).
Since then the digitizer has cracked on numerous occasions, with just a few minor impacts. I have been forced to buy and fit my own replacements since I have a good year left with this phone!
So, yes, I regret buying this handset more than any other I have ever owned.
As for Windows Mobile... What a crock of ****. A bare and dysfunctional 'app store', a slow and awkward interface and even with Sense over the top it still feels horrible.
I like HTC as a company, but the fact that within a few months they have discontinued and forgotten about your handset is not nice. If we could have got Android fully working on the TD2 it might have been bareable!
There is literally nothing about my TD2 which I like (battery life and soft keyboard are also rubbish); the initial selling points for me (design, screen, processor) have all been massively superceded.
Some of you may disagree with the points I've made, but the original post was asking for opinions and so these are mine!
I can use just about any ol' device for a phone. What I like about the Pure (and the two other WM devices I've owned) is that it's become a hobby of sorts. I like to flash it and rearrange it and play with different apps. At least until the recent court ruling that makes unlocking legal, I've always felt sorry for the poor folks who use an iPhone (my wife and daughter included) because they're just no fun. I feel like a slave to Steve Jobs when I pick one up. They're just so rigid and unlovable.
Oh, one thing I particularly like about WM is the ability to tether. I wouldn't own a phone that couldn't do that.
My Opinion
Imho, I think the topaz/pure was a great purchase for me. I ran out the day AT&T had them and got one because I was somewhat fed up with the tediousness of my raphael/fuze. Apart from a few minor issues, I think it's a great device... the 5 megapixel camera can be a halfways decent substitute to my normal cybershot when it has to, and the screen is indeed large and bright. The unfortunate part about it is that for the most part, you can't use it for serious video playing without downconverting almost anything you put on there. But that's what everyone's got their ipods for, right? XDXD
I don't regret getting it, and I am still satisfied with it, but if I was stuck with stock ROM, and did not re customize it from time to time, I am pretty sure that I would regret. It is wonderful phone and in my opinion the still best looking. That said I am switching soon to Desire.
I went thru a lot of HTC devices over the years and I did not regret a singly buy!
Of course after 1/2 year there are newer better faster devices out, but I was never disappointed by any HTC device I bought.
The only device I regret to buy was an Acer Dual Sim device that was cranky, slow, and did not work in Japan.
I dont regret getting any phone due to the research and testing before I buy them. One thing I can say is txting on resistive screens is painfull at best with my sausage fingers! saying that I had issues with my Hero aswell! the only one i didnt mind typing txt on was the iPhone!!

[Q] Knowing what you know, would you still buy it?

So you guys have had the HD7 for a while now. I know it has bugs at the moment. Its to be expected as the OS is still new.
But would you buy it if you knew what you knew now?
Yes, most certainly. Loving WP7 completely. In terms of hardware, the size of the screen is the deal maker for me. But a surprisingly nice addition is the kick stand, which is both effective, useful and invokes an 'oooh that's cool' from people I show the phone to.
I did buy it, then I returned it.
And got an Omnia 7.
May I ask why?
Absolutley I would, yes, there are are few niggles but this is version 1 of the software and a brand new device FFS. Apple are STILL having problems withe the iphone 4 even now (alarms cannot deal with move to GMT from BST for example). With WP7 you are buying into one of the most promising new mobile phone OS's of recent times IMHO, with the HD7 in particular, you are getting a cool big screen device from a company that has built up a good name for itself in the industry. I currently own the HTC Desire and the HTC HD7. I will be keeping the Desire only until the Kindle app and HTML5/ Flash land for WP7, then that will go on Ebay.
My only fear is that because MS decided to launch without one or two features (Flash/ CutnPaste and turn by turn Nav) it will get hammered by the critics in the tech press and be stillborn. This would be a tragedy - the more competition there is in the smartphone space the better for the consumer.
I also hope the handset manufacturers give it the attention it deserves, recent reports on build quality issues with the HTC Trophy do not bode well
That's a conclusive argument
I'm mainly after one as I'm a software developer and I'm interested in the app platform. Looks good. I will go get one today
Ive had mine a day and love it. Was running andoird on my HD2 previously and loved that. But I love the HD7 more. Ye the app market isnt as large as the other major two OS but I can live with that and times will change.
I had an iphone last year and once you get over the intiial hysteria of having millions of useless apps to download and amuse yourself with its not so important.
Ive not had any bugs with the HD7 yet. What issues have people come across.
My only gripe is that Im stuck with crappy Vodafone until 2012

Sure, I loved it in the first 2 days but these 4 main reasons cropped up:
1. The phone would crash/lockup, it did this about 6 times in the week I had it.
2.The hard buttons (on/off, volume, camera) had NO click to them, they were completely soft, so I ended up pressing them all the time by accident, I launched the camera so many times when just holding the phone.
3.The case I was sold with it from the O2 store actually marked the back of it. ( a Leather one with a strap you pull to get it out, don't buy it)
4. I had huge doubts about the overall quality of the device, I really really don't think it would last for 18 months.
I understand 1 (possibly) and 3 were not the fault of the actual device but after issues 2 and 4 cropped up I just decided to return it and got a Omnia 7 instead.
So far for me the Omnia 7 is much better, seems much more higher build quality and its made from metal, the buttons have a nice satisfying click to them, and the screen is just gorgeous, aswell as it being much faster at loading apps and games.
The only reason I took the HD7 over the Omnia 7 in the first place was the double storage but that's not worth the trade off for me.
Oh Yes!!
Having bought an iPhone when they first came out and then giving it to one of our engineers within a week (he thought all his birthdays had come at once!) as deemed useless for true functionality compared with WM6. And then enjoyed my Touch HD I was in eager anticipation of the HD7.
Absolutely love it
Good OS - and looking forward to the updates
Brilliant device - everybody that sees it drools over it and rushes to renew their contract
I have been using email on my mobiles for years and have to say that the HD7 is by far the most brilliant device for actually 'doing business' on the move - big & bright and cool to use
Edit: Forgot to mention - the Office Hub is a 'killer': Was at a presentation yesterday with 2min before I stood up and realised I needed info from a spreadsheet which I thought was on my HD7 (but wasn't) - it took me 30secs to get it! - try doing that with an Android or iPhone...
Regards
CD (UK)
The only issue I have so far is the battery life but I've only done a couple of charges so hopefully that will improve.
It's early days for me but at the moment I am happier than I thought I would be. I'm trying Zune pass at the moment and really liking it. Maybe I didn't need the 16GB after all.
I though about the Omnia 7 but didn't want another 18/24 month contract and the PAYG prices being thrown around were a lot more expensive. Plus, I couldn't actually find anyone selling it on PAYG!
Had it for a bit now, had a few bugs happen, but I would not change it for any other phone out there.
Omnia 7 is a 100% no go for me because of the 8gb memory, I only have about 500meg left on my HD7 and will be ugrading to 32gb asap.
Im still not convinced in AMOLED screens, the colours never look right to me and the edges arnt smooth (looking at my sisters and aunts desires) The look stunning, but they dont look real if that makes sence? I would have loved to have an SLCD in it though. But to be honest the HD7 screen looks fantastic because I have the backlight on 100% all the time.
Battery life isnt that bad, it could be better, but it IS better than my HD2's was.
Biggest niggle is bluetooth audio streaming of music doesnt seem to be as high as quality as my HD2s theres everso slight distortion on high notes. Not that noticable, but enough to niggle me.
Once the updates start to roll out its going to be an incredible device.
Im wondering if an update will be rolled out when the US launch happens? why else would it be delayed? or at least im hoping the promised 60 xbox live that were supposed to be available at launch will be availble at the american launch.
Overall best phone I have ever used, the user experiance is fantastic, its just so nice to use every day, and that completely overruls any niggles I have had, which no doubt will be sorted very soon.
Had mine unlocked for 24h now and just learning the OS but what i'm seeing is fantastic! I've come from a HD2 where as soon as i got it i flashed a custom rom then ran adroid on it for ages but now i could never go back even after 24h!!!
there are a few niggles, coming from android where you had settings for everything there does seem to be a real lack of options just the basics to to get you through, i also cant see how to add a picture to a contact who isnt on my facebook?????
i agree with whats been posted before, this OS has the potential to be the best one out there it just needs to grow.
I've had mine for 2 weeks now and love it! Yes some things are missing and there are a few bugs in the OS, but I'm willing to persiverre because what it does give it does really well.
I had an HD2 with Energy's custome roms for a year now and I am so over HTC Sense (I used earlier versions on my Diamond and Orbit too)and now the "new" HTC apps looks very dated amongst the WP7 Metro apps.
Email, something I could not really get working very well on my HD2, runs like a dream on WP7 and I'm turning into a sick email junkie (help!).
As for the screen, everyone keeps knocking this phone in favour of the Samsung, but in reality, the screen on the HD7 is better than the HD2 and can hold it's own. Might not look as good next to a Samsung, but who cares? Are you going to hold an HD7 and Samsung next to each other 24/7? No? Then you won't notice the difference.
Is the email better on the WP7 than Android. The email on Android drove me up the wall with its bugs and weird behaviour. I have seen a few people on this thread mention positively the email so I am hopeful.
Yes, without a doubt, sure it has a few bugs that Microsoft can fix, but these will not stop me loving this device, never going back to an iPhone again, I'll be sticking to Windows Phone or Android devices from here on in, I had the 3GS then the iPhone 4 and now it's on Ebay as I got bored with it

You can pinch and zoom with HTML email which is fantastically useful, and keeps the email as the sender intended. From my understanding (Neowin WP7 vs Android Communication Comparison) Android doesn't do this.

The main problems I had with Android was that I often had issues setting up POP email accounts on it. Also could behave oddly when picking up messages, I used to get phantom messages or it would not pick them up correctly or in some cases at all.
oh yes i would, though tbh i would of sold my fish tank and got it on payg and unlocked it as o2 contract prices are so steep and the coverage i not as good as tmobile (not sure if this is the same everywhere but around where i live its the case). I will be honest if it wasn't for the fact all other devices are only 8gb i would not have gone for the hd7 but rather the omnia but there is no way i can live with 8gb. The only annoying thing is that when i'm playing games i sometimes touch the search button esp if i have the phone plugged in at the time due to the way i then have to hold it, but if you press back it goes right back to where you left off.
in conclusion it was not my phone of choice but my hand was forced by the internal storage but i am glad it was, the omnia is no better and my second choice mozart seems cheap and to smiler to my old desire. I love the size of the phone i was worried when i first saw it but the shape is like nothing i have ever seen and make it slip into the pocket easier then my old desire and yet i get all that screen.
Quick question guys. Does the HD7 not have a flash? I thought it does.
Yes, the HD7 has a dual LED flash (at least mine does!)

We need these apps for HD2 Windoes 7 phone

I just recently bought a brand new HD2 for $400 off ebay.
I did it because I had read what a versatile phone it is.
I got stuck with 6.5 because I could not flash it. But....
Now it is a beast..
Latest Radio, Latest Widows 7 Rom, all the best free apps
This XDA site gave it all to me free and I am thankful
But what to do next?
My phone is full of apps and games.
I even did a quick online chat to live my phone.
( I said "hi I want to activate my HD7", they said 'but you seem to be in Australia', I said yes my dad bought it in the US and brought it here and I need help'. They said ok "wait a sec we will generate a code" ) -- EASY
But who really needs it? There is so much offered here to just install free.
So my thread ( yes this one ) and its purpose is to install some enthusiasm and see what is next to come.
------------------
What Android and apple apps do we really need to improve productivity, information and fun?
****e, my HD2 right now feel like a $2000 worth of phone, especially when I see ebay selling Iphones for $1000.
-----------------
Windows 7 is a huge jump from 6.5, and well worth doing.
I have not owned a cell phone for over 5 years so all this is new, but if I could 29 it, flash it with Hspl and Magyar and a radio and a new Win7 ROM - then anyone can.
So I would say as my personal answers to all the posts I read.
Yes, It is worth it to go Win7, way faster, way more exciting, better apps.
Super faster!
The best ROM is XBmod-WP7-V1.04b but first apply the latest Radio or you may end up with the HTC white screen as I did for a few days.
HTC flashlight is the best light app and the battery is improved on Win7 but I still wish it was better.
Can people add what are the best Win7 apps to load and as no warez allow here tell me where it is allowed so I can check it out
Cheers
Pedro
HD2 running a full blast HD7 but better.
total cost $400
Can some one tell me if this is true or false?
I hear that a battery has a memory,
So you want to drip charge it over a USB laptop but then mix it up with a full off the wall charge. Drain it and full it and half it and full it. Basically play with the battery and then try to push its charge to the full.
Can this ' blasting the battery with different charge time push a battery to have a larger maximum limit? Or is all this just 'cr*p?'
Or if your bright please add a comment to this thread - how to get the most out of a HD2 battery - an expert, please stand up..

Well, i hope just adding these details helps someone do it right but if you stuff it up, not me not your warranty will help you. go for it anyways.. I have more fun reloading my phone then using it. wierd..
You paid $400!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's insanely high... they go for 150-200 on CLn and often brand new in los Angeles. Even signing up for T Mobile gives you a free HD2 (with a years warranty to boot) and even with the 10 dollar a month data plan, it works out as a $240 phone... with data and you'd have $160 to spend on candy, jes sayin'.
He's/She's from australia, hence the price. In the UK, the average price of used (but immaculate) hd2 on ebay is about £220, while the new ones on high street market are sold at around £350. Convert that to the australian dollars, and you're looking at ~$400 for the ebay ones, and ~$700 for the new high street market.
And no, we dont have craiglist. jes sayin'.
yes in Australia this stuff is expensive. Come here and your money goes half as far, and to top it off our currency is expensive but prices dont drop.
i nead sam apps like samting for security cam and re
like samting for security cam and resco radio
This thread really doesn't belong here... this section is for posting apps. This should be moved to general.
I'm glad you like the HD2... I agree, it's the most versatile phone out at the moment. I got the HD2 the first day it was released in the US... had been watching and reading about it for months before that when it was released in europe. I bought it for winmo6.5 originally... best winmo65 phone released. Now I don't even have winmo65 on it anymore. I have mine with wp7 and android on sd. Hopefully soon I'll be able to boot winmo65 again from sd, cause there's a few apps I miss from that, and I just enjoyed using winmo sometimes... it was a great and versatile OS for people that knew how to use it. But the appeal of android and wp7 drew me away from winmo, plus the fact that no new apps were being made for winmo.
Its gonna be hard to pick a new phone once the next generation of phones comes out... I like both wp7 and android, and having both on my phone has spoiled me. But the specs on the HD2 are going to seem older and older as the year progresses... right now it's still close to as good as it gets, but in 6 months that will be a different story... but the fact I can boot 2 or 3 OSs on my HD2 will probably make me keep it longer than I normally would keep a phone when next generation of devices comes out... we're gonna start seeing all the dual-core processor devices soon, but unfortunately they will only boot 1 OS and I will have to pick 1.
Who knows if we'll ever see a device as moddable as the HD2 again... the HD2 found itself in a unique situation that allowed all this development to be done to it... it started with winmo, which was already easily modded with years of development behind it porting linux to winmo devices... and the HD2 was the last winmo device and only with it's specs, so there was no competition, and a lot of developers got the phone. Now with every new device, there are so many options of similar devices, there won't be so many good developers with the same device. With the HD2 we had a great team of many developers that got android working, which led to getting it going on nand, which led to cotulla developing magldr and getting wp7 working on nand also (which also worked out because the HD2 was spec'ed exactly like the HD7). The chances of a device getting this much development done to it during it's lifespan is very small... I'm hoping they get android running on wp7 devices in the future, so I can have a dual-booting phone again... that's the best chance of having another phone like the HD2.
Well, there's my little morning rant.
battery does not have a memory, what you are thiking of in Nickle cadium which are long since used in phones.
however, in saything that slow charging can be better for the overall life of the battery

Bye Nexus 5, Bye Google. Hello Apple.

Almost 3 years being with Google - Coming from a Nokia -
Only if the LG Phone Nexus 5 was builtt as good or better than ****, but it was so flimsy, in spite of being well taken care of all the components kept breaking -
And then there is the android system, I like Android (Oh and thanks god for Cataclysm ROM it made the nexus experience even better) , I like the new Android M too, but inconsistency, bugs that got in the way of your productive such as the memory leak in the android kitkat, and then the wifi drain in Android M. But I did not actually experience the Android M Wifi battery drain (I don't think I did); but I still experienced WiFi using a lot of battery, maybe another bug maybe not.
But the main reason I leave google's nexus line (the only line I would consider for staying with google): Cheaply built phones, that don't last, that have all kinds of hardware problem. Whether its Huwaie, or LG (disgusting). I remember my nexus 5 started to have problems 5 days before the warranty expired, I was busy and called immediately the day after it expired but neither google or lg were willing to help. And then after replacing part after part on my nexus 5, other hardware problems just eventually gave in - a phone barely lasted 2.5 years, without me applying thermal paste and replacing other components.
Now I am with iPhone and I have to say - well built, clean software, not as customizable YES, but, it does not get in the way of my productivity, specially with hardware problems. It's time for Android fans to start criticizing google, and it's cheap phones, I want Google to be able to compete with Apple, but at this moment, Apple is superior to google, seriously.
> phone barely lasted 2.5 years
Apple isn't going to be any different unfortunately. Good news is that their eco-system is well constructed and the scenarios that they do support, work very well.
Best of luck. I just came to Nexus 5 after leaving Windows Phone, where I couldn't stand the "coming soon". Honestly the fact that the Nexus 5 is still running strong was the primary motivation for me to move.
PFFF I have both F***& Apple biggest POS I have ever used
It's your choice!
I'l see u back on this forum after a couple of years when google gets his stuff together!
What parts did you have to constantly replace?
"so flimsy, in spite of being well taken care of"
Really? Seriously? Did you leave it in a drawer? Things just don't break.
It's always sad to see someone go over to the technologically-illiterate side. Apple's hardware & software may be well-made and well-integrated, but you never actually own your iDevice - you just rent it. If you jailbreak it they feel entitled to brick it, I've heard. Naturally I haven't got concrete evidence with my own eyes, because their ethos is so utterly repellent to me that I could never give them a cent.
"neither google or lg were willing to help". Really? When my own N5's radio stopped working after 18 months after the battery ran down to zero (which I appreciate sort of conflicts with my first statement, but bear with me), supposedly outside warranty, Google replaced it without a murmur. I got a "refurbished" phone which was to my eyes absolutely new, and which is still working perfectly with Marshmallow 6.0.1.
I know full well that this is a pointless and stupid argument. You like Apple or you don't. I don't. Marmite/Vegemite. But to proclaim in an Android forum that your Android experience isn't as good as your new Apple experience (after how much time, I wonder...?) is a particularly pointless waste of time.
So I'll stop wasting mine now.
Was it necessary to let us know that you switched to a different phone?
Good for you.
Beat it.
What's the point?
This was kind of "If you need me I'll be jogging for the next hour", "but I didn't ask" "Well, just in case you wanted to know, I'm running" "Um... I didn't want to know"
I like my iPhone fine, but I wouldn't stick my neck out in an Android forum to point that out unless I was spoiling for a trolling.
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Forums
I prefer android myself and have found the build quality on the nexus 5 not very good, but you get what you pay for i guess.
I dont like the apple OS but they make great hardware for sure, their stuff just shouts quality , however im sure you could find similar quality in some android phones too, htc etc
Well, my experience with Apple wasn't good... Bought all the models until 5c (couldn't afford 5) and have to tell that Apple throws a way their models leaving the behind with a ios that does not work properly (last ios for each model)... And as well lot of hardware problems still have some where a 4s and a 5c somewhere at home... Good luck and save a lot to buy their "New product"
I agree about one thing pretty much all Android phones have had so-so build quality over the years. Now that has changed as more and more start to build in metal. Now this does not account for actual better quality but the perception of quality is much greater. I know I will never buy a plastic phone again they just feel cheep no matter whay. Only Nokia has basically been able to make plastic feel good in the past with the Lumia line.
At the moment I have a Huawei Mate S, iPhone 6S Plus and a Nokia Lumia 1520. Out of these three, I hold the Mate S as the superior build. It just feels best in the hand. As big screen as the iPhone but a lot smaller in the hand and it looks even better. An impressive piece of engineering indeed.
However this leads me to your trouble. (somethat) Only the Huawei has it's small issues from time to time with wakelocks. This has almost been the case for me with most Androids I've had over the years (and I've had a lot). Android has had these kind of battery draining bugs for so long it's sickening. Something I never experience on either Windows Mobile/Phone nor iOS. Specially iOS feels more polished than anything else on the market, albeit limited in comparison.
That being said, I use my Mate S as a daily driver now, which has the "mobile radio active" bug that's in Lollipop but for me it thankfully does not seem to affect battery life when it happens (daily), it's just a statistical error. Knowing it's there the system feels inferior in use. I have to worry about my usage at times when I'm not on WIFI. With my other phones I feel more at ease.
Each system has their strenghts and weaknesses. I'm no fanboy in either way and having three mobile OS's to chose from at any given day feels great. Something more people should adapt. Stop defending one system so much just because you own it at the moment. Just enjoy what is out there! But do not necessarily speak open about it like this because not many will care. Nature of people is that they get offended and enter defensive mode.
OP, congratulations on your new phone and hope it is everything you are looking for.
Now before this turns into an Apple vs Android thread (which we have had many over the years) going to close this.
Thanks
FNM
