On sleeping and pdfs - Nook Color General

I just picked up a new Nook Color at Best Buy an hour ago. I played with it for about five minutes while it is charging, and it is pretty cool. Found my network OK with no problems.
Two quick questions: 1) Does this thing have a sleep mode, or do you have to shut it down all the way?
2) I read a ton of pdf magazines. Can they be imported into the Nook Color?
Sorry if these questions have been asked before. But thanks for your help.
PS: Can anybody recommend an inexpensive case for the Nook Color? Thanks.

I found this case and worked well. had a concern over the top strap so used a bit of velcro on the back and it's thin, lightweight. *does the job*
NookColor Leather Executive Folio Cover / Case
for the power/sleep. Check out [WIDGET] NOOK color power button v0.4.0 Lite and Donate - totally worth the donate.
pdf, my preferences would be RepliGo.

Nice deals on cases for the NC

I didnt see this posted but casecrown.com has some really nice deals on cases for the NC. Use code "Enjoy15OFF" for an extra 15% off the discount prices. This is a deal found on Slickdeals. Hope this helps a few ..

The Mod Flip is the one I ordered myself.
Didn't see any for the Nook Color specifically.
Cheers,
kev
The description of the cases list the compatibility - and those are compatible with nook color (not made specifically for)
Would be curious to hear about these when someone gets one. I have both the Nook and Nook Color and they are "not" the same size. Looking at the pics on the site, the Nook seems to fit pretty tightly. The Nook Color is about a 1/2" or so longer so I am wondering if it will fit.
i emailed the seller they said it would fit the Nook Color. Just curious to know if the original poster got theirs in and if it fit.

M-Edge Latitude Jacket now available for NC

I just picked one up at Best Buy. Very nice case for traveling with your NC.

$40 for a nylon bag is a bit steep! No, a lot steep! Sorry, it may look nice, but IMO not worth the $$$$.

Wow way to expensive , my leather laptop case witch is a whole lot bigger is cheaper than that, look else where my friend
They are happy with what they got and wanted to share. Hell I spent $72 on my leather oberon tree of life case. I couldn't be happier. To each their own.
I picked this one up:
bestbuy(dot)com/site/M-Edge+Accessories+-+Latitude+Jacket+for+nook+-+Red/9834665.p;jsessionid=97939E1F902D70FE5B49EE09DD9FC275.bbolsp-app06-29?id=1218181017432&skuId=9834665&st=m-edge&cp=1&lp=14\
sorry not able to post links yet - change dot to .
works great. Protects, has a lil room in the top zipper pocket for SD cards, stylus, data cable, etc. Does fit the charging block too, but it's a tiiiight fit and kinda puts pressure where the screen is inside so i'm weary about loading it in there.
Looks nicer than the one above too They have a black, a blue and another. They had a really nice green one on the m-edge site (Android anyone?) but I can't seem to find them in retail stores or online.
Got the blue one online from m-edge after seeing the original nook one at best buy. Love it.
Nook vs NC version
I've read that the NC can fit into the Nook version of the Latitude Jacket, but note that the NC version has a built-in bracket that the NC snaps into to hold it tight.

I tried this. I don't recommend it. The one I got from best buy when i was under the impression the nook and nook color were the same size gave me some issues.
1) leather loop corners (no idea how to describe these) to hold it in. Not a snug fit
2) The corner on the top left made direct contact with the power button as it went over the nook. It turned on several times on me.
thanks for the info

Nook case for Streak 7

I am currently using Jack Spade case however, a lot of Nook (not Color) case fit streak pretty nice. a modification may be required but I am using without any modification because I am not using the main camera.
Especially the power is cover and the bottom touch keys are bit cover but if you get used to fiddle around here and there you can really use these nice cases. Most of designer nook cases are on sale also!!! so go down to your close by B&N and try them out.
*WARNING
Do NOT compare NOOK Color its screen. It will just give you big disappointment. Just happy w/ the case selection.
This will really is a good alternative
1. if you don't use the main too often.
2. if you like fancy cases like me.
3. if you don't mind taking the device out of its case time to time like me(which is super easy because i'm only using one side of elastic band

there are few other case with that vice on it. it's not perfect but they fit like their 2nd marriage.
You know what?? this is pretty usefull info... i couldn't find a decent case...
P.S: I think archos 7 Internet Tablet cases are a go too... ordered a A7 leather sleeve and will report later...
Nook Case fits DS7
i bought a nook case (not nook color case) and it fits dell perfectly fine. I can even fit the DS7 in such a way that to charge the ds7 i don't have to remove it. ie exposing the charging slot outward.

I will do that after I go home. The older nook case was selling 50% off at BN store. i paid 15.34 for it.
here is the link tothe product
gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Sinclair-Cover-in-Night/e/9781615598816/?cds2Pid=37684
place the DS7 in such a way that power button will be at top left corner. That will place charging slot facing ouside and head phone at the bottom. I think the headphone jack is 90% visible but I don't use headjack.

Best stylus / pen, case and pdf reader?

Firstly let me say that I do not yet have my nexus 10. I ordered one on Sunday and it should arrive tomorrow or wednesday. My primary use for this device will be to read pdfs and kindle books. Secondary use would be movies/games, surfing web, etc. Therefore I need a few recommendations.
1. Stylus or Pen. My phone is a Galaxy Note 1 (N7000) so I know what a good pen is with a digitizer. I don't expect that kind of response on my new nexus. However I am looking for a pen that is good for highlighting PDFs
2. I need a good case. Maybe one that can prop up the N10. I'm sure this has been discussed to death but any recs anyway?
3. PDF reader. Everyone seems to recommend ezPDF. Is there anything better at all? Just curious if I need to spend the $5 on the app store.
As a final addendum, this is my first tablet. I guess having a 5.3" phone has allowed me to not need a tablet until now. Nexus 10 looks great!

Okay so theses are my recommendation and what I use with my nexus 10 on a daily basis,
1. My favourite stylus is the Gosmart 200 series stylus, its very accurate for a compacitive stylus and let's you see what your writing as you write
2. I Use a Navy blue Poetic slimline case which I love, its really slim and stands surprisingly well for a folio case
3. I just use adobe reader to open my pdfs

I too have the Poetic case, which I like, and use the Repligo Reader which works really well and allows me to annotate with no problems...
Thanks to both of you.
I ordered the rooCase stylus for $10
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071NNVOG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
And the rooCase folio for $5

As for PDF reader, it does appear that RepliGo is awesome but I'll wait to buy that after the tablet arrives.
Try Mantano Reader for pdf's, I'm very picky about my reader and it has ever display/format option you can think of.

3. PDF reader:
I like EBookDroid - a really good app. Fully meets my needs. In terms of usability it works and represents pdf docs better than Adobe Reader.

Wound up going with Montano Premium. $7 vs $2 for ez (amazon app store right now price) but head in shoulders above the rest in terms of smoothness and ui is just buttery on the nexus 10. Only negative: It can't do text box annotations. Might be a problem down the line but if you know a way to make a text box inside a PDF let me know.

No but you can just buy any capacitive pen of your choice. It definitely is NOT in anyway equal to the note s-pens but if you're just looking to take notes in a pdf I don't think you really need the advance features of a note 10.1. Just my opinion as an owner of a note phone.

No. Nor does the c-pen work.

my favorite is adobe acrobat reader. fast and usable.
1. Adonit Stylus
2. Poetic slimline
3. I am using Adobe Reader and i am happy with it.

[Q] Is it possible to replace a broken screen

So after much deliberation over which tab to get I plumped for a nook HD, got a cracking deal via eBay, bought a memory card, installed android as a dual boot, absolutely loving it. Had it exactly one week and... dropped a bottle of beer and cracked the top of the screen. Haven't even had it long enough for the lovely leather case I ordered for it to arrive. Gutted.
Anyway, can someone please let me know if its possible to replace the screen and how much it would cost. I'm in the UK.
The nook is still usable as it is, if a little delicate, but the cracks will soon worsen I'm sure.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Probably not since he bought from ebay. Assuming it is used of course.
Haven't heard of any place that has replacement parts so far though.

Well, he still might be able to get it fixed through B&N, even if he has to pay.

Look around.com there is a tear down thread to see what you are getting into
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I have already contacted B&N and they basically told me feck off as they have no repair centre. If it gets any worse then I'll see what options there are for fixing it myself. Gulp.
Thanks
yep, BN also says to throw the device out and get a new one when the battery is end of life. The advantage to buying from BN is that you can get the full replacement warranty at sales time.
FWIW, the warranty (standard 1 year for defects, or extra dollar replacement) from BN transfers with the device, so a used HD / HD+ does have that warranty. Sadly, it does not include damage sustained in bar fights.
I looked for the teardown and am only seeing one for the HD+ units (via the FCC) - it was originally described as an HD teardown, but it is not.
I'm not seeing a source for a 1440 x 900 IPS touchscreen display, let alone a 7" one but I know there are shops who can order spare iPhone screens and even fit them for you. Definitely worth calling one or two of those if you have any locally - they may only be able to source Apple replacements, or they may have a contact who can ask about these screens, too.

I have a similar situation; HD+ fell out of my wife's purse while unloading our son from the car and it landed screen-down on the pavement, cracking the screen. My question is this: does the entire screen module need to be replaced, or can the glass be replaced separately (assuming I can locate a source)? What are the part numbers for these options, if you have them?

I wrote it before that seems Nook HD+ dont have glass digitizer but some kind of special durable plastic. Anyway, i make before research and then give response.
