[q] jpy, jpx, js5, js3? Help - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a key out there that explains what each base is? Are there advantages and/or disadvantages for each? Which one goes best with the AT&T Captivate? Please help. I need more information.

There is no key that i know of. The main diff is that each base is a different build of Android OS. Each time there is a new update the build number changes. All the ones you mentioned are 2.2.1 builds. js3 seems the fastest of the ones I have tried.

Quick Question About My Hero :)

Hello all. I am kind of new to the whole rooting thing, but I did manage to root my hero and add a custome rom. My question is... am I up to date, or is there anything I can download thats a better verion than I have?

[Q] How to check modem?

How do I check what modem my Captivate is running? I'm pretty new to the Android community so I don't really know much outside of how to install roms.
Go to settings, then scroll down to "about phone", then find the baseband...it's the last three characters...ie: JL4
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thank you very much.
I don't understand the differences between modems. Mine says JK3 after i flashed Assonance v5 rom and have wifi but no data. Im on Rogers' network btw. Do i have to change my modem version?

Thanks for answering to this >2,5 years old question!
No, it's not best to update to the latest version. Different modems work best in different locations.

And using a Modem for another device in the line(Vibrant, i9000, 850mhz i9000, Nexus S, etc...) can be beneficial as well. The i896 Modem have both the Audience Chip and HSUPA, but nobody made a kernel that supported it, so it died out. The modem that came with Cyanogenmod is JL6 I'm pretty sure, which came from a 850mhz i9000, but branded Vibrant(T959)

Yes, one of the first sticky threads in Android Development forum:
【MODEMS】【100+ Captivate I897 ♦ I9000 ♦ CM7/MIUI ♦ ICS】+【Google Location Map】
Has no one got anything on SM-S260DL, this device is great and can really use some support. Please anyone if your able to create a CF Auto Root for SM-S260DL that would be great. I don't understand why I can't find anything for this phone, is there an easy way to network unlock SM-S260DL as well? Any info would be great please guys, I have the stock firmware in case anything goes wrong.

[Q] what is jpy jpx jl5 jpm etc?

well i think they refer to stock roms, but there are so many of those codes/abbreviations i dont really know what each one means
would some one be able to direct me to a list that defines all of them, or just tell me?
Thanks in advance

[] Which stock would be best?

With all the different versions of Gingerbread, what version do you think should be used and referred to as "stock"? Would it be different for 2.3.3 and 2.3.4? I9000 firmware or I897? Before anyone says anything about bootloaders, they would be removed (although it never seemed to bother anyone with JF6 one click). Please, speak up.
1100 posts and you don't know better than to not post this crap in Dev? Taking clueless to a new level.
I needed the opinion of the people actually going to use it. Thats why I put [Developers] in the title.
Mods feel free to move if you feel it necessary.

Stock refers to the software that your phone came with. So stock doesn't mean the same to everyone.

I agree. This is what it means to me.
I guess for 2.3.3 you could say the new KF1 could be considered the stock version since its the actual version from Samsung, not a ported version from the i9000. Is this what you are looking for?

I would not consider that stock unless it came preloaded on your phone. Ihave had issues where I had to return to full stock 2.1 to fix it. Also can't consider it stock till/if att releases it. As it may still change.

[Q] Please help me understand

I know that this question is very stupid for the most of u guys but plz help me understand .
can someone plz explain to me what JVU means ??
thank u
regards
It's an android build identification . Check settings - about phone. You should see something similar under baseband.
Eg gingerbread 2.3.4 had many different builds, jvr, jvb etc. It is used to identify the rom, modem and csc of a particular release.
That's close enough for you - I'm sure there's more to add, but that's it in a nutshell.
Jvu is the value pack upgrade release for the sgs instead of ics 4.0
I imagine google would have given you a better explanation than me.
