I'm using the Feb 12, 28244 GTX rom.
It's a beautiful rom but it has too many apps that I dont use.
and it has so many stuff that the memory is way too low.
I have used the SEARCH botton with no success.
I want to clean up all unwanted apps to make it more multitask friendly.
Does anyone know how to do this? any help is greatly appreciated
Unwanted/unused apps will not take up space in your available program memory, only in your storage memory. So unused apps don't slow it down. Only running programs take up program memory and use the processing speed - and I think you will find the main culprits are actually Sense 2.5 with CHT 2.0 along with all the pictures and backgrounds that get loaded into memory and even the Start Menu. This may help you begin your search as you decide what exactly your program memory is to be used up by. Personally I use TF3D2.1, but this may be too harsh a step (old technology!) for some. However it means I have over 100MB free with a very fast interface.
Thanks Jonny, as a new custom ROM user that was very informative for me.
One thing you can do is delete the programs you don't intend on using from the start menu. It's easy, just go to the File Explorer/My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Start Menu - From there you can move things around as you see fit, you can delete the shortcuts, move them to different files etc... this isn't uninstalling them but it cleans up your start menu folders a lot. I find there's at least a dozen apps I just don't use in the Energy roms so I do this a lot. Install all your programs then do this. Keep in mind, these programs are still in the device memory, so if you delete something, like Word for example. When you click on a word document it will still open in word because it is still installed. You've just removed the icon (I wouldn't recommend deleting anything you may use though, but if you do and want it back, it's nothing a hard reset won't fix)
Have you tried downloading on of his reference ROMs? I never have before, but it's supposed to be a stripped down version of his ROMs.

It still has most of the extra apps he usually includes, but it is slightly trimmed.

A major memory hog is NRG's default Start menu layout, an inexplicable choice for a custom Rhodium ROM IMO. Free up 33% more memory instantly by selecting Panel or Compact in > Start > Settings > Personal > Start Menu Layout Switch.
Out of the box stock ROM.Feb.01 w/o SIM nor memory card: ArkSwitch (tap the left side of the top Taskbar) reports 81,820 K free memory vs. Panel Start layout: 106,640!

Try again. I'm downloading one right now as I type this. I think he just uploaded it. Either that, or go to the thread corresponding to the ROM.

You have this problem?
installed on mine and it shows a desktop.exe. When i do a stop all, it kills the process and i have to reset the device.
Same Here, this version Task Manager is not so good. It adds the "Desktop" to the running programs so when you "close all" you lock-up. It also showed "MS_SIP Button" as a closeable app as well.
Kinda defeats the purpose, back to v2.0 build 30487_2

Many of them work. The ones that are Hermes-specific (e.g. pimp my black, htcustom etc.) won't work but everything else seems to work fine.

Anyone tried the OneNote Mobile?
Wasn't sure if applicable for this thread but the 3G Kaiser type dialer developed by schen allows for the battery icon to be smaller and to have a " % " indication of battery strength.
The cab works great on my TyTNII

Guys I am sure some of you have come up with this program already but I thought posting a link to it since its free and works great with the Kaiser when you want to switch/open/close applications without pulling out the stylus.

Thanks - I haven't seen this before.
Your link is dead - looks right but goes to the wrong place. I got it with a copy/paste though.
I installed it and it gave the "this program may not display properly because it was designed for an older version of windows" thing. I downloaded the WM6 version and am running it on WM6.
The program did not appear in my Applications. It was not available to be assigned to a button either.
It was sitting there in the Program Files directory though, and I could run it from there.
Looks pretty good. I like the controls and everything - but its a bit disappointing that it doesn't pull the correct icon for every program and you have to do it manually. I don't see myself doing that - so if I'm going to use it I would use it with the default icons.
I think I like it and would probably use it if I can get it to assign to a button.

To be honest its only when its assigned to a button that you will see the benefits specially if its the PTT which is next to the wheel.
Funny you say that. I tried checking my buttons settings and now it doesnt show up on the list of applications however its still assigned to the PTT button so I dont want to mess with it lol in case I screw it up..
Have you tried re-installing it?
I agree with the Icons being a pain although we tend to use the same applications very often so it might not be too much of a hassle.
UPDATE
Its back on the list of my applications available. I have assigned it to button 6 PTT

Why dont you try the Camera Button?
Hi
Is there a task switcher software that allows to switch tasks by pressing a hardware key. I mean, that allows to map a hardware key so you can for example switch among taks by just pressing let's say the OK key?
I wonder if there is some solution so I don't have to go back all the time to the TODAY screem to the task drop down thing to switch programs, or that I dont have to open the SPB Mobile Shell task thing to do that.
Maybe is there also a task switcher software that could remain an icon on top of every application so it could be accessed quick as another quick solution to switch?
Thanks in advance for any help!
i use this little app for this. as usual, i don't know where i found it, so i'll just attach it here.
extract exe file to your device, create shortcut in start menu and then assign it to some hardware key
Hi antihrist
Thanks a lot for AltTab! I installed it already and its working nicely. It is great and light app. I also got info about VITO TaskSwitcher, wich comes included with VITO Buttonmapper installation. I'm testing it too and it looks good. Also a great sollution, and nice look, though not light as AltTap. So great I can switch now, it's time saving and so much confortable!
Again thanks for your help!

WkTask is the best task manager hands down... Launcher and other goods make it even better.
If you have Spb Pocket Plus, it also lets you assign a button to open task manager (the Spb TM). Then just tap on the app you want and bring it up. More steps then the AltTab app, but if you like to have many apps open, I find it better then cycling through them all.
I use pBar, lightweight easy to access from task bar and has lots of other useable goodies. And free

How do it change function of left "OK" button?
Dynamo needs some developement as it's a bit thirsty but it's already my choice. Can be mapped to any button.

Thanks to all!
Faviopac, thanks for the .cab file, I'll try WkTaskL too.
Guys, thanks a lot to all! Seems that I have now material to study and choose from. It's a fact that i did not know about aplications like this, till I felt the need and miss it and asked here. I got this HTC TyTN II since some months ago and was focused in other learnings since then and enjoying it. But was starting to miss this switching stuff, they are most have!
denco7, I'll have a look to pBar, thanks for the link! And, branball, will give a try to Dynamo, thanks! I'm glad I have more than I needed now, just have to choose... For the moment I definitely think that I'll go for the apps that display a list of open tasks where you can choose to bring it up, like the one gwnorth was telling about. I'm testing now, of that kind, TaskSwitcher 2.0 wich I found also as independent app (separated of Vito buttonmapper), it brings up also a list of open taks to choose from. I also will try the ones you posted here, wich I super appreciate.
Question appart: I am using Spb mobile shell, wich I find great and better everyday, what's the difference or adventage (if any) of Spb Pocket Plus vs Mobile shell, they are for similar uses at the end (?) I havent test Pocket plus...yet.
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, and if it has please forgive me, but are there any apps that can replicate, or resemble Palm Pres Card style multitasking? Is there a limitation with the Android Platform that means it couldnt work? Jailbroken iphones have this functionality too, and it seems like with the open nature of the Android Platform we should be able to have.
that would need an app that runs other apps "windowed"... i don't think that is gonna happen. opposing the iphone android already has true multitasking out of the box, just get a task manager if you need one.

If programmed to do so the app you close will remain open and working in the background. Then you can re open it and you will be where you were when you closed it.

I am not able to develop the screenshot now, it show only the icon. I strongly believe that i wiill be able to implement the screen capture feature soon...!
Report me any bug/suggestion/remark.
Features:
Launch it with a long press on search button ( camera button will come for devices without search button)
1) See all running app in an endless horizontal scroll
2) icons ( not screenshots) are displayed like palm pre
3) kill an app by dragging it to the top of the screen
4) Drag down an app to ignore it
5) icons ( not screenshots) are displayed like palm pre
6) icon size / space beetween icon fully customizable
7) Graphic png fully customizable
look in the preferences for all features
Thanks for that App, I like it alot. One minor aesthetic thing I wouldn't mind seeing in future versions is kinetic scrolling, although that's really not important. Good luck implementing screenshots, too!

That list just shows the last 6 programmes you have used so you can shortcut to them. It does not necessarily mean they will be running in the background.
Multitasking on the Pre is the best multitasking there is. Hands down. If someone made a "cards" application for android it would sell a ton...
I'm using this CM10.1 version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104442
It works great, fast, not buggy, but it's missing a lot of features that I enjoy from custom made roms, for example, there are no "Development" sections in the settings, which allow setting the CPU speed / governor etc, there is also a lot of other various tweaks that I can't think of right now that just don't exist, where do these things come from? I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to add them myself, I just don't really know where they all come from, like the "Spare Parts" / "Dev Tools" icons in a lot of roms that have various extra customization options.
Also, one thing that bugs me is whenever I plug the USB cable in to charge, the USB connection window pops up, any idea how I would go about changing that so it *doesn't* do that? I have an app that lets me access and edit the root files so if there's something in there I can change to modify that, that would be great too.
Apologies if this is a lot to ask but once I get started I think I can handle the rest on my own I just need to be pointed in the right directions for some things.

Wow thanks.. had no idea. This opened up a lot of options. Like for example killing applications via holding back button, I was wondering how to add that, but it's in the developer options.
One last thing I would like to know how to change, when my phone boots, about 2 seconds after the lock screen appears, the screen turns off, how can I change it to wait longer on the lock screen before turning off? Is there a file somewhere I can edit the timeout delay?
I was wondering if anyone knew how to get haptic feedback on the menu and back buttons?
AW: [Q] How to add additional options to CM10.1?
I think that you can not enable haptic feedback.

How about the option to display this if there are no notifications? So you don't have to have the extra button press in the top right corner to show it all. Makes sense to me...
