I'm using this CM10.1 version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104442
It works great, fast, not buggy, but it's missing a lot of features that I enjoy from custom made roms, for example, there are no "Development" sections in the settings, which allow setting the CPU speed / governor etc, there is also a lot of other various tweaks that I can't think of right now that just don't exist, where do these things come from? I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to add them myself, I just don't really know where they all come from, like the "Spare Parts" / "Dev Tools" icons in a lot of roms that have various extra customization options.
Also, one thing that bugs me is whenever I plug the USB cable in to charge, the USB connection window pops up, any idea how I would go about changing that so it *doesn't* do that? I have an app that lets me access and edit the root files so if there's something in there I can change to modify that, that would be great too.
Apologies if this is a lot to ask but once I get started I think I can handle the rest on my own I just need to be pointed in the right directions for some things.

Wow thanks.. had no idea. This opened up a lot of options. Like for example killing applications via holding back button, I was wondering how to add that, but it's in the developer options.
One last thing I would like to know how to change, when my phone boots, about 2 seconds after the lock screen appears, the screen turns off, how can I change it to wait longer on the lock screen before turning off? Is there a file somewhere I can edit the timeout delay?
I was wondering if anyone knew how to get haptic feedback on the menu and back buttons?
AW: [Q] How to add additional options to CM10.1?
I think that you can not enable haptic feedback.

Go to developers settings and in the bottom there is an option for this..
How about the option to display this if there are no notifications? So you don't have to have the extra button press in the top right corner to show it all. Makes sense to me...

Hey guys.
I've searched for a couple of hours for 2 apps and can't find them. I ran a search on xda and nothing.
First app:
A battery indicator that i can see in the notification area but does not have a icon on the notification bar. I want to be able to drop down the notification bar and see the status of my battery in percentages. I prefer my notification bar as clean as possible.
Second app:
Power controls in the notification area. I found Quick Settings, but that opens another app to change the settings. I'm looking for a way to activate wifi, bluetooth and so on just by taping something in the notification area.
Thanks.
So, the conclusion is that there are no such apps?
It s only too much.
Quick settings is very impressive. It starts the app from the notification bar, thats right.
But, what would you all switch from the notification bar:
Wifi
APN
Brighness
GPS
Auto Sync
Bluetooth
Airplane Mode
etc...
There are too much options for one notification bar.
I'm thinking that an app like this would let me choose 3-4 toggles. I realize it's impossible to have them all.
Oh, and a toggle does not take a row, instead all the toggles should be on the same row but with separators between them.
OK, I' have to say, that I never found such a programm. Sorry.

So the default power bar widget won't work for you? It's pretty much exactly what you pictured, however a widget.
If you want to choose and have your own order, use beautiful widgets.
Why try and cram this into the notification area? You have 5 desktop screens (more with add-ons and custom ROM's) to put this stuff. Navigation from screen to screen is fast and easy (even if you hate the swipe thing).
Or this even? http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.extendedcontrols/
Dunno, just lost as to why I guess.
Yes, you are right, it looks like the power settings widget, but i want it in the notification area to be able to change settings without leaving the current app and stop using the widget. I need the space for other stuff
moved to the Q&A section
What about quickdesk? Kmobs hads mentioned it on twitter couple of times. you can put anything you want even the settings widget and can change it without leaving the app.

Hm, its getting close to what i want. I'll give it a try.
UPDATE: It looks promising but it hijacks the "once press home button" functionality, meaning i can't get home. Uninstalled!

Are you talking about the widget? If yes, its not what i'm looking for. Like i said, both apps need to display something in the notification area, so no widgets and no notification bar icons.

i never tried it but damn is too bad the home button gets removed didn't know it. but the app is in beta maybe it will get fixed.
UPDATE: Today the QuickDesk app was released on the market and it fixed the issue, so now i can use it
One problem solved.
PS: I strongly recommend QuickDesk so go download it.
Yesterday as I was leaving work I noticed a new icon on my default (home) desktop called Android. I didn't put it there and have no idea how it got there. When you tap it, it opens a window with like 8 android system icons, txt, settings, ect. Its kinda handy I suppose but not really needed, but I'm really curious where the heck it came from. Anyone else see this on their device?
Sounds like a folder rather than a shortcut? Never seen it before and it's not one of the default folders either.
Yeah I think you're correct. All those functions I usually do from the (LP) dock, and its like the phone decided I use those enough that I need a dedicated folder!!?? Nothing else has changed, the first place I looked was "About Phone", everything is as it was before. Weird!
Edit: also I have LP set to not have text labels for any icons, but this one does say "Android", jesus phone indeed, ha!
Edit: Oh, and the graphic is a generic gray cellphone.
Screenshot??
Sure when I get home and have access to my computer/SDK
SDK? Looking at the spec list you don't need it?
You are aware you can use screenshot apps with root, right?

Yeah took a quick look at the Market and nothing really jumped out at me, and didn't have a lot of time to monkey around with my phone.
Anyhow,

Not sure about the Android shortcut/icon, but the second screen looks similar to the popup that shows when you hold the home button. (recent activities list)
Looks like one of the default Folder Organizer items, do you have that installed? If so, you probably added the widget while it was in your pocket or something. I'd be less worried about your phone and start wondering if your leg is becoming self aware!

Bingo!! Its a widget selection for a program I have called App Organizer, having said that, it takes four (specific) keypresses to get it to a place where I never put icons. I always leave my default home screen devoid of any clutter, (except time), for viewing cool wallpapers.
So I guess I'm back to, did this program just decide, without any interaction from me to put an icon on my desktop? Certainly not earth shaking, but a little bit irritating having some guy behind a monitor deciding how I should use my device.
In the scheme of things theres probably a lot more than less of this going on behind the scenes than I can see, lol.
Thanks for the replies/help clearing this up!

Stock Android 2.3.1 (which Nexus S) uses doesn't have that.
PS. Is it really necessary to write in bold/red/italics? Man it was annoying having to edit the quote to remove all that.
my work around is to stick the Power Control widget on a screen of my choice
it's included with stock Android
but there is no option to attach it to the status screen

well, i was looking for the powercontrol for the statusbar, as the statusbar is accesible everywhere, when desktop is not, as i recall

Again, CM has the setting to change the colors and the items in the status bar power widget
Widgetsoid does a great job at a power control widget and it is free.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/widgetsoid2-x/com.jim2
I've missed this from my Galaxy S too, but the best work around I've found is Quick Settings - search on appbrain (cant post links as I'm 'new') and configure it to display in the notification shade, but to hide the icon in the notification bar.
If there is another solution to properly get buttons as on the Galaxy S ROMs (other than the often suggested - "flash CM7") I'd love to hear of it though. I know the notification shade can't be edited by a simple .apk, but this isn't the first time I've seen this request and would have thought it really ought to be possible somehow without delving into the deepest darkest recesses of the android system -but of course I am probably wrong
Hi all,
with the upgrade to ICS, there is now the Settings option always in the notification window when you pull it down.
Is there any way to remove this?
It just takes up space preventing me from seeing notifications I actually want to see.
It is not difficult to get to the settings screen by just pressing the menu button and then selecting Settings, so it's not really any more efficient.
Plus, once you have you phone setup, you don't really need to go into settings that often (I use widgets to toggle things like wifi, BT, gps, rotation, screen brightness and timeout).
thanks,
Rich
Having same question
Yeah, I just upgraded to ICS today and would like to remove that Settings from notification too... Anyone?

Anyone else noticed their phone getting a lot hotter than it did on gingerbread? :s
Its a feature in stock ics. If you want away with look for a custom rom that doesnt have it.
Dont think there is any such rom though
Me too this feature of ICS (4.0.4) is anoying me, any updates?
I guess it is not only on the Galaxy Note, it impact all devices, right?
Do we know if this is improved on Jelly bean?

I don't understand why this is anoying? For me it is a natural place to have the settings access, because it is allways available. So in 2 touches I can open the settings menu, which I do very frequently, by the way.
On GB, the only way is to press the menu button on any home screen (with no app opened). To have this, I need to press home, press menu and only then touch the settings option.
So, I think that ICS implementation is better, at least for those that go frequently to the settings page.
Maybe for those that don't do it often, this option is irrelevant - but I wouldn't imagine it would be anoying to some one.
But, I understand that our beloved Note is used by a very wide audience, with different expectations and uses for their phones.
So, yes, it would be a good thing to have the ability to configure what would appear or not on the notification screen.
But, as far as I know, JB is like ICS and HC.
It is annoying because it waist space, forcing you to scroll down to see the actual notification (as indicated above).
And for me it is easy to access my frequent Settings, because I use Wigetsoid to change them from my Home and the Notification. And if I need to access a un-frequent one, I use the task manager of ICS to switch to Settings (1 long press on Home then one press on Settings).
Also it is misusing the Notifications for shortcut, since Settings is not a notification
I'm using Rocket ROM v7 now and the settings option takes up a lot less space and I can see a lot more notifications.

Hello there, ladies and gentlemens. First off, i have recently updated my phone to 4.4 and i noticed i had recieved a weird icon on top of my screen which i absolutely have no clue of what in the world it is! I thought you guys maybe could tell me what it is? If it is something that drains the battery out then i would really want it off.
Second, i have noticed some weird things when it comes down to free RAM calculated by for ex. CPU-Z and the built-in Apps on the phone. The apps tells me that i usually have 1.0-1.4 GB free RAM but on CPU-Z it tells me sometimes i only have 200-1.1 GB free ram which i both find disturbing and weird at the same time. Could it be some miscalculations compared between these two? Or what do you think?
Third, After updating to 4.3 which had included some changes to the music interfaces i thought why not update it and went ahead and did it. When i updated it i obviously saw changes both to sounds and the interface itself but what is most disturbing is that i can no longer just change songs when im inside the music player of HTC one itself by just moving the image but now i have to press the forward button to do so which i do not like. Is there any way of changing this at all so i can just move the image of the song to change to what song i want to be played?

To be more clear of this image, you can obviously see that i have pointed out the Icon to show you which one i exactly mean. And about the third question, interfaces and all that, you can see that it says "Spelas Nu" that means "Playing Now" translated from swedish to english and right next to it you can see that it says "Visualizer" which basicly is just some random images doing stuff yeah you know...
Any help is greatly appriciated Also any tips and tricks or anything related to these kinds of things are also appriciated!

That icon you see is for NFC. That mean NFC is on. IRC this icon was introduced in 4.3. Turn off NFC to hide icon. If you need NFC to be on and you want to hide this icon, you'll need to use the Xposed framework with the ''NFCIconRemover'' module.
