[Q] Some questions about things - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, ladies and gentlemens. First off, i have recently updated my phone to 4.4 and i noticed i had recieved a weird icon on top of my screen which i absolutely have no clue of what in the world it is! I thought you guys maybe could tell me what it is? If it is something that drains the battery out then i would really want it off.
Second, i have noticed some weird things when it comes down to free RAM calculated by for ex. CPU-Z and the built-in Apps on the phone. The apps tells me that i usually have 1.0-1.4 GB free RAM but on CPU-Z it tells me sometimes i only have 200-1.1 GB free ram which i both find disturbing and weird at the same time. Could it be some miscalculations compared between these two? Or what do you think?
Third, After updating to 4.3 which had included some changes to the music interfaces i thought why not update it and went ahead and did it. When i updated it i obviously saw changes both to sounds and the interface itself but what is most disturbing is that i can no longer just change songs when im inside the music player of HTC one itself by just moving the image but now i have to press the forward button to do so which i do not like. Is there any way of changing this at all so i can just move the image of the song to change to what song i want to be played?

To be more clear of this image, you can obviously see that i have pointed out the Icon to show you which one i exactly mean. And about the third question, interfaces and all that, you can see that it says "Spelas Nu" that means "Playing Now" translated from swedish to english and right next to it you can see that it says "Visualizer" which basicly is just some random images doing stuff yeah you know...
Any help is greatly appriciated Also any tips and tricks or anything related to these kinds of things are also appriciated!
Best regards, sp3tan.

That icon you see is for NFC. That mean NFC is on. IRC this icon was introduced in 4.3. Turn off NFC to hide icon. If you need NFC to be on and you want to hide this icon, you'll need to use the Xposed framework with the ''NFCIconRemover'' module.

Battery Meter?

Anybody know of a good battery meter? I'd like something that has a little bar meter, with a percentage. Something small that displays on the task bar. maybe changes colors based ont he battery level. I saw one cooked into a ROM (can't remember, I've flashed so many) that looked like a little battery Icon. I don't know what it was called though...
honestly, the s2u2 is the best battery meter out there....
the battery meter that comes with the pdacorner ultimate rom is exactly what ur looking for. U cant really tell from the pics, but it is a regular battery meter near the upper right corner that has the exact percentage directly above it. It also changes color depending on strength, so at 100% its green, 75% orange, 50% yellow and at 25ish it turns red.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261&highlight=pdacorner
I've always been a fan of the ones that go all the way across the top, this one is good, light, and free. Putting it up there frees up a bit of space, and you can change the colors to match your theme. I think the one you're talking about was on the PDAcorner roms, could check the list of programs in the thread and see if it's downloadable separately.
Hope this helps

Cool, thanks guys
I know of another one have to post once I get home
Now it is attached the only disadvantage of this one is that it is an exe so you have to start it everytime you could use mortbuttons to make it easier to access
This one is the most colorful i've seen
Here you go, all it changes is the battery and its good for 1% incriments!
What does this file do?
Hi
Thanks. What I want to do is to have the time and battery meter at the top all the time when I use my Touch Pro? I installed this Cab. The icon that displays the type of online connection and the call history display seems to have changed.
This may be a silly question. What is this cab supposed to do do?
Many thanks.

Battery and Time on top
Hi
In answer to the last message I installed greenbatteryfix.cab. What I would like to see is both the time and the battery indicator at the top at all times. This cab does not appear to do this.
All the best.

Can't find these elements - are they obsolete?

Hi,
I'm quite new to Android so I don't know where to find all elements in the phone. Please have a look at this image and let me know if you know if the images are used or obsolete!
One additional element not in the photo is the scrollbar handle, that large thing that used to pop out from the scrollbar at times - is it gone?
I assume there is already info on how to theme the progressbar, I will search for this info later.
Thanks in advance.

all of those are in framework-res.apk/res/drawable
the scrollbar is also in that same folder.
to edit the color of the progress bar you have to edit progress_horizontal.xml, here is a little guide i made in a thread about how to easily do hex edits for color in .xml's. the only one of those files that still applies is .xml above. 1.6 did away with 1.5's way of doing the progress circles.
Pretty sure he's asking where the elements are actually used on the phone. As in, what apps use them, etc.
All are used besides the battery charged, and the files are like david said in the "framework-res.apk/res/drawable"
There are some outdated images left over from older OS versions, I usually just tend to ignore these so I have less to edit. The scroll bar large mode icon appears in contact.apk if you still want to edit that, im not sure which other system app uses it. I think what happened was google did a little cleaning up and moved app specific resources inside the app's apk files instead of having them float around in frameworks. They do need a serious clean up of the folder though.
Thank you for the replies!
Yes, I am in fact asking where they are used on the phone. I have a HTC Dream that I'm testing with, and I have not found apps that use the elements that I've listed.
So the battery charge is not used - thanks!
What about the rest, do you know an app that uses them?
The reason I want to find them is so that I can change them and see how it turns out on the device. I'm doing this for a client and I've tracked down all of them except these last ones.
I'm not positive but I can say a lot of them ARE obselete:
Erase Button: I believe it used to come in handy during 1.0/1.1 OS, haven't seen a use for it on 1.5+ devices
Picker Box: Definitely obselete, have not seen these used in quiet a while..
Spinner: These might be date/time picker images, go into alarm clock app, set alarm or change time for any of them I believe they show up here, not sure about the arrows though.
Battery Charge: have NOT been used since android 1.0 initial release, rc29, which was taken out a long long time ago.
Progress bar graphics: These are xml changes, I believe. As someone pointed out earlier you can try changing them via xml changes.
Your best bet is just not edit them, they're in the system/frameworks folder for no reason at all, I say save yourself the work and avoid them.
Hope that's clearer.

Thanks a bunch! This just saved me a headache

Its magic!!!

Yesterday as I was leaving work I noticed a new icon on my default (home) desktop called Android. I didn't put it there and have no idea how it got there. When you tap it, it opens a window with like 8 android system icons, txt, settings, ect. Its kinda handy I suppose but not really needed, but I'm really curious where the heck it came from. Anyone else see this on their device?
Sounds like a folder rather than a shortcut? Never seen it before and it's not one of the default folders either.
Yeah I think you're correct. All those functions I usually do from the (LP) dock, and its like the phone decided I use those enough that I need a dedicated folder!!?? Nothing else has changed, the first place I looked was "About Phone", everything is as it was before. Weird!
Edit: also I have LP set to not have text labels for any icons, but this one does say "Android", jesus phone indeed, ha!
Edit: Oh, and the graphic is a generic gray cellphone.
Screenshot??
Sure when I get home and have access to my computer/SDK
SDK? Looking at the spec list you don't need it?
You are aware you can use screenshot apps with root, right?

Yeah took a quick look at the Market and nothing really jumped out at me, and didn't have a lot of time to monkey around with my phone.
Anyhow,

Not sure about the Android shortcut/icon, but the second screen looks similar to the popup that shows when you hold the home button. (recent activities list)
Looks like one of the default Folder Organizer items, do you have that installed? If so, you probably added the widget while it was in your pocket or something. I'd be less worried about your phone and start wondering if your leg is becoming self aware!

Bingo!! Its a widget selection for a program I have called App Organizer, having said that, it takes four (specific) keypresses to get it to a place where I never put icons. I always leave my default home screen devoid of any clutter, (except time), for viewing cool wallpapers.
So I guess I'm back to, did this program just decide, without any interaction from me to put an icon on my desktop? Certainly not earth shaking, but a little bit irritating having some guy behind a monitor deciding how I should use my device.
In the scheme of things theres probably a lot more than less of this going on behind the scenes than I can see, lol.
Thanks for the replies/help clearing this up!

[Q] How to add additional options to CM10.1?

I'm using this CM10.1 version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104442
It works great, fast, not buggy, but it's missing a lot of features that I enjoy from custom made roms, for example, there are no "Development" sections in the settings, which allow setting the CPU speed / governor etc, there is also a lot of other various tweaks that I can't think of right now that just don't exist, where do these things come from? I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to add them myself, I just don't really know where they all come from, like the "Spare Parts" / "Dev Tools" icons in a lot of roms that have various extra customization options.
Also, one thing that bugs me is whenever I plug the USB cable in to charge, the USB connection window pops up, any idea how I would go about changing that so it *doesn't* do that? I have an app that lets me access and edit the root files so if there's something in there I can change to modify that, that would be great too.
Apologies if this is a lot to ask but once I get started I think I can handle the rest on my own I just need to be pointed in the right directions for some things.

Wow thanks.. had no idea. This opened up a lot of options. Like for example killing applications via holding back button, I was wondering how to add that, but it's in the developer options.
One last thing I would like to know how to change, when my phone boots, about 2 seconds after the lock screen appears, the screen turns off, how can I change it to wait longer on the lock screen before turning off? Is there a file somewhere I can edit the timeout delay?
I was wondering if anyone knew how to get haptic feedback on the menu and back buttons?
AW: [Q] How to add additional options to CM10.1?
I think that you can not enable haptic feedback.

Go to developers settings and in the bottom there is an option for this..
How about the option to display this if there are no notifications? So you don't have to have the extra button press in the top right corner to show it all. Makes sense to me...

Sort notifications by time

Hi guys!
Just move to android from iPhone's since day one. I do have it about 5/6 months and I was hable to sort all of the different settings and I can say that I'm really happy with the change.
I only have one little problem that makes me crazy, can't get notifications sort by time like the iPhone, so I constantly get "Ding" and can't tell what it is calling my attention... I talked this issue with a friend from office, he has a Xiaomi, and it does have the notifications sort by time, the screen wakes and highlight the notification when arrives. That's exactly what I need! Tried some apps like Glympse but only change the home screen and not the notifications on the status bar.
Why Galaxy notifications are set like this? is there a order that I can understand?

And this is my note 8 on Oreo notifications:

it happens because of "priority notifications"
Swipe a notification to the right/left just a little until you can tap the gear, then check whether or not they're priority.

Thanks a lot a very simple answer to a question I have been struggling with since I changed devices. My thanks sir. It's a small thing that I wasnt sure I could change.
Same here
Hi everyone. I am facing the same problem, and it has nothing to do with priorities, it seems Android is set that way but I can't figure out how Android sorts notifications; I've tried replacing the notification bar by some other app but it still sorts it the way Android does. I've searched all over the internet but no solution so far. It seems that only Emui and IOS counts with that feature. Has anyone find a solution?
I'm having the same issue with the new s10. Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
I Think the Notifications are sorted by the Type. So notifications wird popups are shown higher then notifications with just Sound.
I bet the option doesn't exist because of Google's position as an ad company. Apps are essentially advertisers and they likely abhor the idea that their notifications could be user sorted. They want prioritisation.
Chronological Notifications
If the Notifications are not chronological then they are useless. It is absolutely ridiculous and unproductive to have to scroll for two minutes just to try to figure out why your phone just beeped. I use BlackBerry Hub. It's a third party email app that also conglomerates all of your phone's app and calendar notifications and displays them in proper chronological order. I highly recommend BlackBerry hub if you have multiple email/social media accounts managed on one phone. Otherwise good luck trying to figure out who is trying to reach you with these Google add based notification displays.
I have this exact problem in my Oneplus 6. Is there any solution? I hate Android due to this. Why there is no simple option in the settings to sort notifications based on the time they arrived?
i tried so much its so sucks
u can try notification master app
u can see all notifications arranged bu time
I'm going F'n nuts with these Android notifications. Same problem, I get an alert sound then check notifications and I have no F'n idea what just alerted me. They need to be sorted by reverse date/time order with the latest at the top (ideally). Who the F wrote the notification code? Do they even use their own phone?
