Question to change default APN setting - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I just bought an used Captivate for Att. it has been rooted and SIM unlocked. I am just trying to delete the default APN because I have a Tmobile data plan so I do not need a Att plan. Every time I discard the APN, but those setting still there. I have two line one is for tmobile the other is Att and I use tmobile more frequently than Att. If I have the Att APN on my phone, they will quickly detected then forced me added a $25 data plan. I already try a lot of software like APNdroid, Juice, droid wall etc but neither work well. In addition,if I flash the phone into a different ROM, will ATT still can detected my phone? Beside, is there a good way to avoid those data fees? Thanks!

Problem getting data to work on AT&T

Hi. Anyone know why my coworker's iphone at&t sim works in my tab but not the pay-as-you-go sim that originally came with it?
I'm using the JK3 modem with the overcome beta2 rom. Is there an issue with this modem working with the type of plan I have?
Thanks!
AT&T APN Data Settings for Galaxy Tab
Go to Settings, Wireless & Network, Mobile Networks, Access Point names and make sure you have one called Broadband (assuming you are on the ATT monthly data only plan)
If you dont, create a new APN
Name: Broadband
APN: Broadband
Just leave the other options as is, save it & select it.
I think by default it comes up with the ATT wap.cingular APN which doesn't work with the Tab Data plan.
I use the JK3 modem too.
Awesome! That did it.
Thanks!
RichAP,
you are the F**Kin man. I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with at&t with no result. after search this furom and changing names (a whole 15 mins at the most) I finnally have data. Maybe these "tech customer service" people should use xda when help people out, or maybe my dumb ass should have looked first. either way thanks RichAP.
No problem, glad I could help!
I've also had an issue with the stock AT&T Data Usage widget messing up my either my APN or Data.
Followed these instructions, but I think I have another layer of complexity.
My Tab is an international version and when I signed up on the att.com/addsession (or whatever the name is) page, it tells me they don't have a data plan for my device. Is that because my version of the Tab has voice capabilities?
I'll call AT&T tomorrow but thought I would see if anyone else has had this issue.

[Q] Verizon LG G2 GSM Support

Hello All,
I have been thinking about traveling to Japan this coming year; I have looked at Verizon's International plan, and it seems like they are very pricey.
I have heard that the VS980 has GSM support, with no LTE, which is fine. I have looked into the h20 network, as they have exceptional prices for their international plan.
I have googled it and have gotten mixed answers, so I came here. I have a h20 sim card, and it pulls the APNs, but does not get any service. Is it that I am using a custom rom?
Thanks for the help in advance!

Please someone answer this. I'm in a similar boat.
I'm on the stock verizon ROM. I have a Piranha mobile sim card. I am testing the setup in the US to verify it works. It connects to the T-mobile/Piranha voice and sms network, but data is not working.
Their setup instructions call for setting the apn to openroamer.com, but no mention on the mnc or the mcc values. If I just set the apn to openroamer.com I'm able to save and select it, but as soon as I change the mnc or mcc values to t-mobile the apn disappears after I save. Do I need to set the mnc and mcc values to something specific? I tried to track down exactly what they do, with no luck.
I see mention in another thread that Verizon locks the phones to be unable to connect to other US domestic networks. They also mention that once I'm overseas I'll be fine. I'm skeptical.
I was thinking of going to the t-mobile store to see if I could borrow a sim card to confirm it's a firmware issue. I would rather not root at this point. Any other courses of action?
Thanks for shedding any light.

It turns out to be a activation error for me, after I correctly activated the sim, it worked! (silly me!)
For your problem, I looked on your carriers website/ help websites and there are no values except the APN.
You might need a data plan active. I would try using other carriers, because for me the h20 sim worked with data.
Verizon has no control over what network you go on either, FCC has a couple laws that prevent from Verizon doing that except exclude the hardware needed to connect to other networks.
Sorry I could not help.
I popped my Aio Wireless (AT&T) SIM from my Nexus 4 into my G2 and after a little APN tweaking I had HSPA+ working with no issues. It is my understanding if you have AT&T Band 4 LTE (limited markets) and the correct service providor, it will even connect 4G/LTE on AT&T networks. I swapped my Verizon SIM back in and removed the APN's and all was well on Verizon again. I am stock (KitKat) and rooted with only a few few Xposed modules installed, no custom ROM.
It sounds like, from reading the posts above, the Verizon LG-G2 IS a World Phone and should function straight on from stock on a UK provider like Three just by purchasing a sim and plugging it in then configuring the APN settings !
The problem is that when my Susan went just this morning to a Three store in London, the guy there told her that her Verizon LG-G2 was LOCKED to Verizon network only, and that she would have to do something like obtain an unlock code because the phone would not work on any other provider until she did that.
Verizon's International folks told us earlier that the phone would work fine, given GSM frequency issue restrictions, overseas and there was no need for any UnLock proceedure or code.
Does she just need to find a competent tech at a different Three store ?
Or is she going to be unable to play Ingress the whole two weeks she is over there in England and Scotland ?
Update...both Three and Vodaphone folks in London have now told her that the Verizon LG-G2 is carrier locked and cannot be used without Verizon unlocking it on any other network. So, Verizon was wrong and she is limited to WiFi only for the next two weeks ?

No global mode Verizon phones are carrier locked.

It is very odd. We tried it on a T-Mobile sim over here before she left, I am pretty sure, and it just worked. Still, over in London Three & Vodaphone say it is locked and useless on their networks and their sims don't work.
Maybe it is subsidy-locked ?
Maybe they just didn't set the APN and data settings right at the stores ?

[Q] Pure Edition AT&T Go phone

I recently purchased a Moto X Pure Edition and am trying to use my old gophone sim (previously in a feature flip-phone) in it. I have tested and confirmed that it works correctly on T-mobile, however when I put my gophone sim in it, it shows service for 30-60 seconds and then goes to "No Service" which I know is not true. It is also worth noting that I can't turn on cellular data. As soon as I do it turns itself off.
Other things that might be relevant:
My gophone plan is the 10c/min, no data plan.
This was originally a full size sim which I cut down to nano size. I have put it back in my old feature phone with an adapter and confirmed that it still works.
I have tried a dozen different APN settings, including copying the APN settings from a friend's Moto G that has the same plan, with the same result.
For the short period that I do have service, it usually works correctly. I still can't turn on mobile data, but I can make and receive calls as well as send and receive non-MMS text messages (MSS requires mobile data). Sometimes attempting to text/call seems to trigger me losing service, but that might be a coincidence.
I'm currently on rooted stock 5.0 lollipop with an unlocked bootloader.
Any ideas how can fix this?
I am going to try using my friends gophone sim and see if that works. I will update with the results of that.
Att contracts require data plan for smartphones. Maybe related. Call them and ask.
As I mentioned, my friend has a Moto G with the same plan. I did call and they suggested I get a new SIM. I'm going to do that, but I'm doubtful of the result

Restore wi-fi calling - carrier unlocked

Hi. I'm new (and old) so apologies in advance for any faux pas. I couldn't find another thread with a problem like this, so I'm posting a new question.
Here's what happened:
I have been using Ting MVNO SIMs on two Galaxy S8 phones for about 18 months. Preparing for an overseas trip, I asked T-Mo to unlock the phones so I could use foreign SIMs.
T-Mo unlocked the phones, but now I can't get wi-fi calling to work on the Ting SIM. Tried a MintMobile and FreedomPop and the same thing, no option in the tools or phone app to activate wi-fi calling although it is activated at the MVNO and the E911 addresses are correct.
T-Mo says it's impossible that unlocking did that. Well, it happened. Ting doesn't have a clue about how/why it happened or how to fix. Samsung says it's the carrier's problem not theirs.
I factory re-set hoping it would restore the lock, but that didn't do anything. I don't get a signal at my home, so wi-fi calling is necessary. My next step is to buy new phones.
Ideas? Thanks!

Unlocked model AT&T sim tethering issue

Just turned this on, then inserted AT&T sim and it asked to reboot. Once done I was able to put in APN then turned on hotspot and set it all up. I got data on the phone, laptop can connect to hotspot but no internet. Playing with all the settings and still no internet on tethered devices. Did unlock version somehow download AT&T firmware and block tethering? Help?!
My unlocked phones have been doing this on at&t for a couple of months now. I think at&t just wised up to it somehow, but I'm unsure.
I am using hot spot right now..I do all day...using the FE on AT&T. No problems at all...but...I believe it depends on what plan you have!
I am on the unlimited elite so maybe that's the reason. Not sure why you would have to put in an APN??? THat should be automatically enabled when the SIM is installed.
