I don't know if it's the OS or my battery, but the battery indicator at the top right corner is often incorrect. More than a day has passed and it's at 75% still which is impossible after 2 months of owning it. I expect to get the "battery low" message soon despite what the OS is reporting at the top right corner
Anyone else with such issues?
actually its hard to gauge if the indicator is working correctly at all.....
I once fully drained the battery and waited for a few hours, recharged it to full, and let to drain to 1% and full again. on that day , i had a huge improvement in battery life.
the trick is to leave it fully frained a few hours

I'm worrying about my battery. The main thing is, it drains really fast. In flight mode and nothing else on it drains like 2% each hour. So overnight, most of the time it drains like 16%. Today i started with 100% in the morning. Used GPS for 1 hour, made a phonecall for 20mins in total time. My battery indicator said there was 30% left :/ I know this thing eats batteries, but this is insane. Because i noticed an incorrect display of the battery the last few days i gave it a soft reset. After the reset i saw the battery had only 4% left, not even 30%, but 4! :|
Many times when the phone is saying i have 'insert number' percentage of battery left it's incorrect. Because when i give it a soft reset, it changes the number. Sometimes i get more percentage back, and sometimes it drops.
One hour ago i plugged it on the charger, checked 45min ago, and it was still on 31% battery :| Then, like 10min later i suddenly saw a green light from my phone and it was full.
I've never had a device with a broken battery and i don't know the symptoms, but is this normal or is it likely that my battery is dying?

I'm trying to nail down if this is normal behavior or not my phone always shutdowns itself when the battery level goes below 7%, no matter what.
then I turn it on it boots and shows 0% of battery left then it shutdown again, next time I try it's totally dead.
Tried with a battery calibration improved the overall battery life but that mark is still there.
Is that normal? I mean when I used to have a G1 it lasted until 1% or so.. 7% can be very well an extra hour of usage that I'm loosing.

I've noticed the same thing. It'll be interesting to see if anyone has a solution.
7% of battery life is just a number. It could very well be inaccurate, and simply reporting 7% when you actually have 0%. When you reboot and it shows 0% just backs this idea up. You are not "losing" an hour of battery life, you simply never had it.
To check this, use spare parts to look at the voltage of your battery when it approaches 7%.

I'll give it a try, interesting is the fact that both Cyanogen RC3 and Battery Monitor are reporting the same thing.
Will keep an eye on the voltage, what should it say ? something near 0?

because if you get below of this the battery will be dead and will not work anymore. so thats normal.

I've also read its normal but if its normal why isn't it calibrated to show 0% when its actually at 7%? My phone goes off at ~10%

Yes its kinda normal. My phone has always shut down at 8% from day 1. I think its because of what we're talking about in the battery cal thread personally.

When I took it off the charger, the status bar indicated that it had dropped down a notch. Is this normal? I was expecting the battery indicator to be fully shaded in white.
Ok. So I restarted the phone. Now the battery indicator is showing that it's completely full. Hmmm.

Please remember that your battery needs some time to kick in and settle before you'll get full charges/power and correct indicators. If you just got your phone on Monday, wait about a week, and your phone should last longer and display more accurate approximation of battery life.
If it has been much past a week though, and your battery life is still significantly poor, then it may be your battery, device, or how you have the system configured.
I've commented on this a few times before, the same thing happens to me.
Its obviously a bug with the OS or something as I am now on my second HD7 and it does exactly the same.
let the phone battery drain out then let the phone charge completely with out using it. You will see a huge improvement on your battery life and the phone will charge alot quicker. That will also fix the battery indicator bug.

Remember for best optimization of any battery is when u use it 0% to 100% and then let is drain to 0% again.
i have the phone since a week with 5 charges i am not happy YET with the battery. Hope it opens up as ppl are saing.
I forced my battery dry a couple of times between charges using the HTC Flashlight app.
Run the app on maximum beam (you might have to wake it up every now and again) and the battery drains very quickly. I turned on wifi and set some music playing as well for good measure.
Then charge using the supplied charger rather than a PC USB connection. I'm not sure if that's meant to make a difference but mine charges up much faster that way.

I'm getting about 15 hours of battery per charge. That's with moderate use (text messages, e-mail web browsing, a couple phone calls). This is MUCH better than when I first got my HD2. The battery would drain about 1% every 3 minutes. It was absurd. I'm pretty content with the battery life thus far. Windows Phone 7 is such a pleasure to use.

I got the HTC Surround and I noticed the same thing. After coming off a full charge (the whole night) I loose what looks like 5% of the charge within the first 5 minutes. Sometimes it's after as much as replying to a text.
Hopefully the battery has to 'settle in', as others have suggested.

I have had terrible misfortune in the realm of battery stats. Ever since CM7 (and maybe even before) my phone is unable to figure out how much battery is left. Here is a common scenario:
Charge phone overnight, use phone throughout day, battery dies after 6-7 hours of moderate-heavy usage. I plug it in, reboot, and then it reports ~60% battery left.
Another common scenario is that it will dwindle around 5% battery or less and go up and down until it finally dies.
I know that this is a misreading of the battery and not battery drain or a rogue app because when I flash a new ROM the battery life is amazing for 1 day. The day after I flashed Team Hacksung's ICS rom, I got almost 17 hours of battery life with 2.75 hours of the display being on and 30 minutes of Google Music. I was blown away! But even then it was dwindling around 5% not knowing when it would actually run out. The day after, it was back to its old tricks of misreporting the battery percentage.
Today I charged it to 100%, unplugged it, and shut it off. Then I plugged it in while it was off and let it charge to 100% again and wiped battery stats in Clockwork mod. I'm getting ok-ish battery with that, but it's not even close to how good it was when I first flashed ICS.
Anyone have any ideas what I could try?

When you wiped the battery stats did you let the battery fully discharge and shut off before charging again?
After wiping battery stats it is recommended to let the phone fully discharge to the point where it will automatically shut off.
Keep in mind with the age of our phones, it could just mean your battery is dying. Try the above method, but in my experience uncalibrated battery only last a few days. The phone will "fix" it by itself the longer you use it.

That's what I'm doing currently. Battery life seems improved, but we'll see what happens. It's nearing death now, ~6%. At this point it will probably misreport it for a few hours until it finally dies. I left it unplugged overnight, so now it's at 19.5 hours uptime with 1.75 hours display time.
Definitely improving! I hope that it successfully recalibrates.
Battery stats have nothing to do with how the os calculates remaining battery...they are what is displayed in settings>about phone> battery use and are reset each time you charge to full.
You're just giving it a good bump charge...wiping the stats is just a placebo effect.

Nope...that app is just perpetuating the myth of what the batterystats.bin file does.
Don't hate me for this but, Then how come Roms usually give me better battery life after a full cycle? not bump charging or deleting battery.bin just running it?
Because the system for tracking the remaining power is getting to know your battery. once it gets a feel for it, it's more accurate. In theory anyway

battery gauge temporarily fixed by removal and replacement of battery
Ever since I rooted my phone, I've noticed that the battery gauge/meter is way off. I keep an eye on the charging voltage and try to pull the plug around 3.92 volts. Problem is, the gauge is always reading low until I pull the battery, wait a few minutes, and then reinsert and boot up. Then it's fine for a while, but I notice it creeping down even though I keep topping it off with a charge to keep it around 3.92 volts.
What's going on? Do I have to fully deplete the battery and charge to full to have an accurate (or somewhat accurate) battery gauge? Do I have a bad battery (this battery has been used only a couple months)? Is something else going on here? Recommendations, studacris? Doesn't the os use battery voltage to calculate state of charge (%)?

I've noticed that after charging my phone to 100% and going throughout the day, battery life is amazing. I get wonderful stats; I can go 12+ hours (and then some) on a single charge.
However, the issue occurs when my phone starts to drop into the near-dead area. When my phone reached 10%, I usually start easing up on data usage, leaving the screen on, and so forth. But the real problem is that I can be using it when it's (supposedly) about to die, and literally WATCH the battery meter drop to 1%. And it will remain at 1% battery for anything from an hour to four, depending on how I use it.
I'm lost as to what I can do. There are no options in Safestrap 3 to sipe battery stats, so I had to resort to a Market app to wipe the 'batterystats.bin' file. Even then, the app that wipes that file shows the battery at over 3000 mAh of juice... yet this device only has a 1785mAh battery.
So I'm confused. I want to make sure that it's reading proper battery levels, and I want to bring it back to where it should be.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try.
Just saw this too! Was worried about battery life, as it dropped from 100% -> 10% in about 8 hours, but then stayed there for many many hours.
I just got the phone, so did calibrating the battery help with your one?
